      "body": "미국에서 보내는 시간도 내삶의 연장선상에 있기에 이곳에 온 여러가지 목적들이 있지만, 그중의 5할 이상은 영어때문이라 할 수 있다. 이곳에서 만나는 사람, 여기서 쓸데없이 하는 걱정, 불안, 고민 모든 것이 영어와 연관되지 않은 것이 없다. 그래서 자연스레 떠오르는 질문. 영어는 나에게 무엇이었는가 돌이켜본다. 영어는 그동안 나에게 과신이었고, 사치였고, 자랑이었고, 열등감이었다. 이것들은 아직 현재 진행형이다. \n\n중학교 1학년 내가 처음 접한 영어는 극강의 촌스러운 경상도 사투리 발음의 선생님에게서 시작되었다. 학교밖에서는 나와 닮은 오성식 선생 (지금으로부터 약 30여년전 이 양반 무척 늙었을텐데, 아직도 동안이더라…)의 카세트 테이프가 또한 내 영어의 시작이었다. 학급에서 영어를 곧잘한다는 친구들은 소위 공부를 좀 한다는 부류가 되었다. 영어를 잘하지 못하고서는 전체 성적이 좋을 수 없었기 때문이었다. 나도 공부를 좀 한다는 부류에 들기 위해서 죽어라 연습장에 단어를 그려 제꼈고, 문법을 시키는대로 무조건 통째로 외웠다. 영어라는 새로운 언어를 배우는 것이 아니라 점수를 위해서 학습했다. 왜? 라는 질문은 없었고, 외우고 또 외우고, 문제를 풀고 또 풀었다.\n\n대학교에 가서 영어는 나에게 폼이었다. 도서관에서 영문잡지 Times를  펴고 읽는 것이 지성인의 폼이라고 생각했다. 물론 나는 그때까지 직독직해를 하지 못했고, 세상의 다양한 이슈들을 이해하지 못했기에 나의 작은 두뇌용량과 이해력으로 매주 배달되는 타임지를 소화하기 어려워 밀리고 밀린 책자들은 대부분 쓰레기가 되었다. 다른 한편의 영어 공부로는 막연한 목적으로 토플점수 높이기에 있었고, 그래서 항상 토플 문제집을 상비약처럼 끼고 살기는 했다.\n\n영어에 대한 나의 의미가 극적으로 바뀐 것은 실제 외국인과 대화를 하기 시작한 호주어학연수 기간이었다. 영어는 단순히 영미권 백인들과만의 대화가 아니었다. 세상에는 정말로 다양한 영어가 존재했고, 호주영어는 그 수많은 영어중의 하나였다. 학교에서 배운 한국식 영어문법 교육 또한 그중하나라고 생각한다. (중고등학교때 그렇게 빡세게 영어단어와 문법을 하지 않았다면, 분명 영어능력 성장의 한계가 있었을 것이다. 그러나 세상 사람과 소통이라는 관점에서 본다면, 내가 배우고 읽힌 방식은 가장 비효율적인 것이었다) 어쨋든..... \n재미있는 수업방식을 통해 영어에 대한 자신감이 생기고, 영어가 모국어인 사람들뿐아니라 아시아, 유럽, 전세계 다양한 외국인과의 대화가 즐겁다보니, 하루종일 영어 공부만 하여도 지루하지 않았다. 이때 영어에 대한 나의 자신감은 급상승하게 되었다. \n\n호주에서 1년2개월뒤 한국에 돌아와보니 영어는 나에게 새로운 무기가 되었다. 어디에가서도 영어회화가 된다는 자신감은 나에게 하나의 필살기처럼 되었다. 그 한예로 1년이 지난 직장생활에서 갑작스레 조직변경이 있었고, 나는 뜻하지 않게 소위 잘나가는 부서로 배치되었다. 나중에 알게된 사실이 내가 그 부서로 옮길 수 있었던 것은 영어를 잘할 것만 같았다는 이유였다. 그리하여 1년만에 영어로 읽고 쓰고 말하는 해외사업부에 배치되어 (이때도 만족스럽게 사용하지는 못했다, 한국지사의 한계이다) 승승장구하면서 그동안 배웠던 영어를 실전(회사생활)에 적용하게 되었다. 그 이후로 나는 외국계회사를 전전하면서 본사 외국인과 때때로 영어로 일하는 자리로만 돌아다녔다. \n\n그로부터 10년이 지나서 한국토종기업으로 다시 돌아왔다.  그후 몇년간은 영어를 거의 사용하지 않았고, 새로운 분야에서 적응하느라 나의 필살기를 사용할 기회를 찾지 못했다. 그러던 어느날 그토록 원했던, 우리의 제품을 해외시장에 소개하는 글로벌사업개발 업무가 맡겨졌다. 이것저것 묻지도 따지지도 않고 그 일을 덥석 물었다. 그렇게 2년을 상상도 못했던 나라들을 돌아다니면서 일과 영어를 같이 하였다. 사람은 역시 원하는 일을 할때 가장 행복한 것 같다. 그때 나는 앞으로 이런 일을 내 업으로 하리라 다짐했다.\n외모는 한국사람이지만, 영어가 모국어인 사람, 10살이전에 외국에 나가서 Billingual이 된 사람, 중고등학교때 간 사람, 대학교때 유학간 사람 아니면, 성인이 되어서 생존영어로 배운 사람. 그 영어 잘함의 정도를 객관화하기는 어렵지만, 자기의 생각을 얼마나 조리있게 효율적으로 표현하는지는 조금만 대화를 해보면 알 수 있다. 나의 경우는 성인이 다 되어서 본격적으로 회화를 했기때문에 여전히 외국인들 앞에서는 불안하고, 긴장되고 영어를 사용해야 하는 상황이 불편하다. 그럼에도 불구하고 불굴의 의지로 극복해가는 노력형이다 . \n\n앞으로 영어를 꼭 배워야만 하는 이유가 줄어들 수도 있다. 구글번역기등 번역 서비스들이 인공지능에 의해서 놀랍도록 빠르게 발전하기 때문이다. 많은 경우 번역기가 대체할지 모른다. 그러한 미래에도 정말로 영어가 우리에게 여전히 절실함이며, 과연 필살기와 프리미엄이 될까? 그렇지 않을 가능성이 매우 높다. 그럼에도 영어를 배워야만하는 이유는 진정으로 있다. 영어는 나에게 더 넓은 세상을 보는 창이기 때문이다.  \n\n나에게 영어는 어떤 때는 수학과 같은 공식이었으며, 사치였으며, 소화시키기 어려운 음식이었으나, 어느날 영어의 진정한 의미를 깨닫는 순간 새롭게 다가왔다. 영어는 세상을 보는 창이었다. 더 넓고 다양한 세상과 소통할 수 있는 창문이었고, 이것은 나의 사고방식과 생활방식을 바꾸어 주었고, 현재의 나, 지금 실리콘밸리에 있는 상황을 만들어주었다. 앞으로 새로운 언어를 해보는 것이 또하나의 목표가 되었지만, 여전히 우선순위는 영어를 자유자재로 구사할 수 있는 도달할수 없는 목표가 먼저가 될 것이다.그것이 단순히 사치이고 폼잡는 것이 아닌, 더 넓은 세상을 볼 수 있는 스카이라운지의 통유리 같은 것이기때문이다.\n\n영어는 나에게 [세상을 보는 창] 이다. \n내앞에 영문잡지가 놓인 상황에 직관적으로 떠오른 단상이었다\n\n\n출처: http://eent.tistory.com/ [바론(장성환)이 꿈꾸는 세상]",

      "body": "When you are thinking of moving to Silicon Valley, the first step is to get a proper visa from the USA embassy. You should get an appropriate VISA besides of ETA, B1/B2 if you are going to stay longer than six months. (See the inserted picture)\n\nWith a US VISA, you have to take following actions in order. \n1. To book the airline ticket to get to the USA\n2. Packing up stuff to move and ship all the luggage to the USA (Assuming you wouldn't be able to know an address until you find a house you will live in)\n3. Onboarding to the Airline\n4. On arrival, you have to open a bank account since you have to spend all the expenses from now on; therefore, it is one of the most urgent things to do as soon as possible. You can find Bank of America's brand most frequently.\n5. Now, it is time to find a car because public transportation in Silicon Valley is not as good as in any other big cities and it is also quite expensive.  If you have a family with children, you might as well buy two cars, one for a primary vehicle and the other for a secondary one. \n6. You should also register two cars to the California DMV, which stands for Department of Motor Vehicles. \n7. Now, it is time to find a house you will resident. That is the most critical moment to make a right decision considering your budget and educational environment and some other factors that you would really care for. The duration of a leasing contract usually is one year, and it is likely to be a hassle to move once you settled down in an area. \n8. With a leasing contract and some proofs of your residency, you should go to the public school districts and submit to be allocated to a school in that area. \n9. You also need to make a contract for car insurance as well as renter insurance. (There are several large insurance companies, but State Farm and Farmers insurance are most common in California)\n10. And now, you will purchase things like furniture, electronic appliances including others to live. \n\nYou have to take a driving test to get a driving license which will be your photo ID. A driving test is included both in written exam and field driving test.
