| title | 10 Most Horrifying Film Series That Will Keep You Up At Night |
| body | Horror has always been a genre that the public has looked to for their thrills and quality scares. While there are plenty of movies that have been very successful in the genre, some series have outshined the competition by a mile. If you are looking for more than just a cheap thrill (or the occasional obligatory jump scare), they aren’t hard to find. If you want a story that can haunt you and encourage you to sleep with the lights on sequel after sequel, take a look at these horrifyingly scary film series. #10. Alien The original tagline for the first film in this series was “In space, no one can hear you scream.” Audiences all around the globe would see that there was nothing safe about a seemingly harmless trip across space, as the ship is soon overrun with bloodthirsty aliens. There was something downright out terrifying about the xenomorphs. These perfected killing machines would be the running antagonist through each of the films 6 total installments (including two prequels). Sigourney Weaver would be the original protagonist of the series, reprising her role as Ellen Ripley through nearly all of the franchises earlier films. While this series is heavily loaded with dark themes and jump scares, it will have you on the edge of your seat and glad that you are safe in your home on land. What’s going to keep you up at night: The image of a baby xenomorph bursting from a crew member’s stomach and scampering away on the ship. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078748/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1 #9. Candyman Remember that scary game that you used to play with your friends at sleepovers when you were growing up? You’d get in a dark bathroom by yourself and you’d look in the mirror and say Bloody Mary like 5 times. She was supposed to show up. If you had friends like mine, one of them was hanging out behind a closed shower curtain to scare the daylights out of you, but that’s a story for another time. Candyman takes this same premise and built an entire horrifying franchise out of it. Each installment (complete with the Candyman role reprisal from the creepy Tony Todd). What makes this series so delightfully terrifying is the unknowns about when or where Candyman might show up, and how each victim plays into a bigger plot. What’s going to keep you up at night: The bloody hook of the Candyman. For a simple weapon, this has seen a lot of gruesome kills throughout the franchise. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/candyman/ #8. Children of the Corn Nothing like a little religious fanaticism to really bring a creepy and scary factor to a series of films. While you can expect nothing less from the amazing horror writer that would bring about stories like Itand Pet Cemetery, Stephen King has brought a level of sadistic passion to this story. While the first two installments would be set in a dusty old Nebraska town, the franchise isn’t a one trick pony (as seen in the Chicago based Children of the Corn III: Urban Harvest). Following a misguided child preacher serving a demonic force, the children of this Nebraska town have killed all of the adults and sacrifice all other adults that they encounter to their master. This movie is sure to make you feel like you should be a little nicer to your kids. What’s going to keep you up at night: The very opening of the first film shows a truly brutal portrayal of how the children did away with all of the adults in the small town. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Franchise/ChildrenOfTheCorn #7. Friday The 13th Even the most lackadaisical of movie lovers knows who Jason Voorhees is. This hockey masked harbinger of death has terrorized hundreds of teens throughout his reign of bloodshed spanning 10 original franchise films (not including the crossover Freddy Vs. Jason or the more recent reboot for the series). Over the 12 total films, Jason has killed 146 people. There is no other fictional horror film antagonist boasting those kinds of numbers, so it is with good reason that he might have a few people tossing and turning as they try to fall asleep at night. While each of the films in this series wouldn’t be contained to Crystal Lake, it was a nice change of pace to see Jason roaming the streets of New York City or even continuing his death toll far in the future aboard a spacecraft. Case in point: you can’t stop Jason Voorhees. What’s going to keep you up at night: every creak and pop you hear in the dark of your bedroom. Jason knows no bounds and he will find you. http://www.fridaythe13thfranchise.com #6. Scream Perhaps what is interesting enough about this film franchise isn’t the plot itself. What has made this series such a phenomenon with its fans is the unpredictability of the final scenes. Throughout each film there has almost always been two killers instead of just the one common to horror films. While they all donned the familiar Ghostface costume, you were never truly aware who the killers were until the final revealing sequence of events. Loaded with red herrings, the Scream films will keep you guessing. Just when you think you have it figured out for sure, the body count keeps rising. Wes Craven has been known for a lot of powerful horror films throughout his career, and this entire franchise would be a big feather in his cap. What’s going to keep you up at night: The opening of Scream 2 features a young couple going to see a movie (ironically based on the events of the first film) together. In an attempt to identify a strange noise in a bathroom stall, the guy puts his ear to the wall and Ghostface shoves a knife through his head. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117571/ #5. Child’s Play If you aren’t bothered by movies like Annabelle (a possessed doll), you obviously don’t have the background of watching the Child’s Play films growing up. While undeniably the series would take a campy turn after the 3rd installment, these movies were nightmare inducing to say the least. The premise for these films is a serial killer has used his dying breath and black magic to send his soul into a doll named Chucky. When the doll is then purchased for a young boy, the doll’s serial killer spirit can’t help but claim more and more victims. Stretching out over a total of 6 films so far, Chucky has hacked and slashed his way through a total of 30 victims. What’s going to keep you up at night: Chucky has a maniacal laugh that stays with you. Plus, this Good Guy doll looks creepy as hell towards the close of the 3rd installment. https://www.themoviedb.org/collection/10455-child-s-play-collection?language=en #4. Wolf Creek There aren’t a lot of words for this 2-part film series (a 3rd installment is currently in the works). What I can promise you though, is that both of these films will stay with you long after you are done watching them. While these films are undeniably violent and gore-tastic, there is a real sinister underlying characteristic to the movie itself. Mick Taylor is the antagonist of the series, and he is as initially charming as he is later psychotic. In the Outback of Australia though, it is very easy to find yourself in need of some assistance and even easier to disappear without a trace. Beware the good Samaritans. What’s going to keep you up at night: What Mick lovingly calls a “head on a stick”. https://www.theguardian.com/film/australia-culture-blog/2014/feb/18/wolf-creek-classic-australian-films #3. Wishmaster Ever wondered what would happen if you somehow let a genie out and got those wishes you’ve always heard about. Well, be careful what you wish for (literally). In this 4-film franchise, an evil genie is set loose again and again to terrorize those who are willing to ask him for something that they most desire. One of the interesting draws to this horrifying series is the creativity that goes into the various death sequences, as they are almost all a play on the specific wording of a wish. While there are plenty of “cover your eyes” scenes for those that are not especially good with gore, this is a film that is both entertaining as well as unsettling. What’s going to keep you up at night: How about the woman who wants to be beautiful forever? She gets transformed into a mannequin in the store where she works. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120524/ #2. Halloween Giving Jamie Lee Curtis her first acting gig as young Laurie Strode, the first Halloween film would debut in 1978. From this point, there would be a total of 8 installments to the original series, spanning to the most recent back in 2002. While Jamie Lee Curtis would appear in most of these films as the main protagonist, in the latter films she would give the spotlight over to the younger generation. Michael Myers is the antagonist of all of these films, and (even though I didn’t count them personally) Myers is said to have 111 kills under his belt throughout the entire series. Never running, never unmasked, Michael Myers is truly terrifying in every film within the series. Want some new age horror? Check out the two reboots to the franchise Rob Zombie directed. What’s going to keep you up at night: William Shatner. That’s right, the original Halloween mask was created by painting a Captain Kirk mask all white. Now you’ll be a little weird about watching Star Trek too. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077651/ #1. Nightmare on Elm Street If you want creativity and an unescapable death, look no farther than the Nightmare on Elm Street series. Freddy Krueger is a villain with a lot of flair and wit, and unfortunately for many a teen throughout the years, he uses them in the most brutal and terrifying of ways. While the series might have started to run out of plot relatively quickly through its initial installments, the death scenes and horrifying appearance of Freddy Krueger himself are enough to make it hard to sleep. Oh, that’s right, you don’t want to sleep because that’s how Freddy finds you: in your dreams. Though there are not hundreds of deaths through these 7 original films, the ones that you see are unforgettable. What’s going to keep you up at night: Your fear of falling asleep. Freddy kills you in your sleep, so it’s easier just to listen to the creepy kids in elongated dream sequences that jump rope singing “never sleep again”. http://nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com |

What makes this series so delightfully terrifying is the unknowns about when or where Candyman might show up, and how each victim plays into a bigger plot. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: The bloody hook of the Candyman. For a simple weapon, this has seen a lot of gruesome kills throughout the franchise. \n\nhttps://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/candyman/ \n\n#8. Children of the Corn \n\n\nNothing like a little religious fanaticism to really bring a creepy and scary factor to a series of films. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: The very opening of the first film shows a truly brutal portrayal of how the children did away with all of the adults in the small town. \n\nhttp://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Franchise/ChildrenOfTheCorn\n\n#7. Friday The 13th\n\n\nEven the most lackadaisical of movie lovers knows who Jason Voorhees is. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: every creak and pop you hear in the dark of your bedroom. Jason knows no bounds and he will find you. \n\nhttp://www.fridaythe13thfranchise.com\n\n#6. Scream \n\n\nPerhaps what is interesting enough about this film franchise isn’t the plot itself. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: The opening of Scream 2 features a young couple going to see a movie (ironically based on the events of the first film) together. In an attempt to identify a strange noise in a bathroom stall, the guy puts his ear to the wall and Ghostface shoves a knife through his head. \n\nhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117571/ \n\n#5. Child’s Play \n\n\nIf you aren’t bothered by movies like Annabelle (a possessed doll), you obviously don’t have the background of watching the Child’s Play films growing up. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: Chucky has a maniacal laugh that stays with you. Plus, this Good Guy doll looks creepy as hell towards the close of the 3rd installment. \n\nhttps://www.themoviedb.org/collection/10455-child-s-play-collection?language=en\n\n#4. Wolf Creek \n\n\nThere aren’t a lot of words for this 2-part film series (a 3rd installment is currently in the works). \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: What Mick lovingly calls a “head on a stick”. \n\nhttps://www.theguardian.com/film/australia-culture-blog/2014/feb/18/wolf-creek-classic-australian-films\n\n#3. Wishmaster\n\nEver wondered what would happen if you somehow let a genie out and got those wishes you’ve always heard about. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: How about the woman who wants to be beautiful forever? She gets transformed into a mannequin in the store where she works. \n\nhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120524/ \n\n#2. Halloween \n\n\nGiving Jamie Lee Curtis her first acting gig as young Laurie Strode, the first Halloween film would debut in 1978. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: William Shatner. That’s right, the original Halloween mask was created by painting a Captain Kirk mask all white. Now you’ll be a little weird about watching Star Trek too. \n\nhttp://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077651/ \n\n#1. Nightmare on Elm Street \n\n\nIf you want creativity and an unescapable death, look no farther than the Nightmare on Elm Street series. \n\nWhat’s going to keep you up at night: Your fear of falling asleep. Freddy kills you in your sleep, so it’s easier just to listen to the creepy kids in elongated dream sequences that jump rope singing “never sleep again”. \n\nhttp://nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com",

| title | Top 10 Most Infamously Evil Women In History |
| body | There might be plenty of contenders for the evilest men of all time. Surprisingly though, many women have also been at the heart of some of the most sinister and wicked things that have happened in history. With this in mind, it became apparent that a list should be made to introduce you to history’s most infamous and heinous females. This list spans out for centuries, pulling political or religious fanaticism together with earnest psychopaths bent on destruction. Without further ado, it is time to see who made the cut for the Top Ten Most Infamously Evil Women In History. #10. Willamina Dean Also known as Minnie, Willamina would be one of New Zealand’s most infamous citizens. While this all would occur late into the 19th century, her actions still linger on the tongues of those hoping to tell a shocking tale. At this time, young girls who would become pregnant were pariahs. To avoid this socially damaging fate, it was commonplace to give these children away to a person running a “baby farm”. This meant that they would care for and raise the child for a price. Willamina Dean ran her own farm, yet instead of raising any of the children that were given to her, she pocketed the money and killed the infants instead. At this time, record keeping wasn’t enforced, and the life expectancy of infants wasn’t especially high, so there is no saying how many victims there actually were before she was caught (and hanged) in 1895. https://nzhistory.govt.nz/baby-farmer-minnie-dean-hanged #9. Belle Gunness Collecting life insurance policies has been a motive for murder for many, many years now. Even before the turn of the 1900s, people were underhandedly killing their spouses (or children) to collect the lump sums. Belle Gunness was perhaps one of the most direct cases of this throughout American history. Her impressive frame (6ft tall and over 200 lbs) would presumably make it easier for her to overpower her numerous victims. Though there were many speculated deaths she was most likely also responsible for, she is known to have killed 25 people and potentially 15 others. Being motivated purely by monetary gains from life insurance policies, Belle Gunness would ultimately kill both of her husbands, all of the children that she would have, most of the boyfriends she would have and her two daughters: Lucy and Myrtle. Her frame and ruthlessness would give her the nickname of “Lady Bluebeard” in the press. https://www.biography.com/people/belle-gunness-235416 #8. Mary Ann Cotton Though her tally of victims might pale in comparison to Belle Gunness, Mary Ann Cotton is perceived as the first female serial killer that England would ever see. Shortly after she became married in 1852 to William Mowbry, Mary Ann would begin her sinister ways. The couple would 7 children (6 which mysteriously died). Shortly after this, William would also die, giving Mary Ann a large life insurance payout in the process. She would then marry George Ward, dead just over a year later (complete with a life insurance policy). She would marry James Robinson next, and in this time period, she would kill her mother, her last daughter (from Mowbry), the infant from James’s last marriage and one of the two children they had together before she would be kicked out of James’s home. She would then marry her last husband, Frederick Cotton. In this marriage she killed Frederick, his sister, the child they had together and his son from a previous marriage: Charles Edward Cotton. After Charles died, authorities suspected Mary Ann was to blame and she was brought to trial and convicted. She was hanged in 1873. https://the-line-up.com/mary-ann-cotton-englands-first-serial-killer #7. Lizzie Borden This was a strange case in history of the court of public opinion vs. the actual court findings. In 1892, Abby and Andrew Borden were killed in their home with an axe in Fall River, Massachusetts. Though Lizzie was one of the only real suspects in the case, even believed to have motives for the crime itself, she was eventually acquitted of the charges after the trial. The brutality of the crimes would be what made the case such a talked about event, even now over a century later. Her conflicting accounts and the lack of police work in the case had left very little evidence to actually convict Lizzie of the crime, though now the pieces seem to plainly fit together. There was never any other suspect brought up on charges, and Lizzie Borden continued to live out the remainder of her days as a pariah in Fall River, Massachusetts. http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/features/lizzie-borden-why-a-19th-century-murder-still-fascinates-us-w432670 #6. Ilse Koch There is no mistaking that the Nazi regime was one of the worst mars in history. With the hate that fueled that machine, it was not uncommon for women to join into the ranks to work the concentration camps as overseers or wardens. One of the worst of these was Ilse Koch, who was affectionately known as the “Witch of Buchenwald” (among other nicknames). As if torturing and murder was not enough to sate the sinister appetite of this enthusiastic Nazi, she is remembered for the keepsakes that she took from many of the victims of the concentration camps. Koch is known for removing the skin of many of the victims, particularly any tattoos, and fashioning them into macabre souvenirs such as lampshades or soaps. She would be stand trial for her war crimes and would later hang herself in her cell after her paranoia of former concentration camp survivors enacting revenge would fog her brain. http://all-that-is-interesting.com/ilse-koch #5. Myra Hindley One of the two people responsible for the Moors Murders in England, Myra Hindley was one of England’s most infamous evil women. Even though Mary Ann Cotton might have had more victims overall as a serial killer in England, Myra’s actions would be much worse. With the aid of her boyfriend Ian Brady, the two would abduct 5 children between the ages of 10 and 17. They would then sexually assault, torture and eventually murder each of these children. She was dubbed the “most evil woman in Britain” throughout the time of the trial and for many years thereafter, and still remains a dark spot on England’s history (even though she died in prison back in 2002). She has long since been remembered as having a swagger and unmistakable nonchalance about her deeds when she was arrested, which would become somewhat of a trademark to those who think back on the time. http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/myra-hindleys-confessions-moors-murders-12764799 #4. Irma Grese Even though Ilse Koch would reportedly collect tattooed skin for keepsakes, she doesn’t hold a candle to this second Nazi concentration camp warden. All in all, Grese would have a victim tally accredited to her in the thousands. Her brutality would move her up the ranks, making her a warden at the most recognized of all concentration camps: Auschwitz. It was reported from testimonies that her common violent outbursts were against the women in the camps that Irma would deem to be prettier than she was. Her trademark at the camp was to walk around with heavy boots, a whip and a pistol. She would use all three on a regular basis to enact her torturous ways, even killing many women in cold blood. Perhaps the most damning of testimonies for the trial she would have after the war were reports of hand picking prisoners to be sent to the gas chamber. The “Hyena of Auschwitz” as she was called, would be executed in 1945, shortly after the end of the World War II. http://warfarehistorynetwork.com/daily/wwii/irma-grese-the-blonde-beast-of-birkenau-and-belsen/ #3. Beverly Allitt The media would dub her “The Angel of Death”, and she would be another English lady to take her aggressions out on the most defenseless of us all: children. Believed to be acting out of an extreme case of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, Beverly would strike when a child was at their most vulnerable. She was a nurse in the children’s ward, believed to be working towards helping children get better. Over the course of a little less than 2 months however, Allitt would murder 4 children, attempt to murder 3 more and cause serious harm to 6 others. She would most often inject large doses of insulin or air bubbles through IVs. She was eventually found out when an alarming amount of cardiac arrests (due to her preferred method of overdosing children on insulin) happening in the children’s ward at this hospital. She is still alive, serving out 13 consecutive life sentences in prison. http://www.crimeandinvestigation.co.uk/crime-files/beverly-allitt #2. Elizabeth Bathory As we can see from looking at this list, Europe has seen its fair share of evil women throughout the years. Elizabeth Bathory is among the worst of these however. Having seemingly no motive at all (or none that anyone was able to reasonably identify), Bathory would lure in and kill hundreds of girls. As a prominent noble in the region, it was customary for local peasants to seek work in the houses of nobility, and that was the lure that would get Elizabeth’s victims into her home. It is estimated that in total, she had killed as many as 650 people by the time that she was caught by authorities. She would never be officially sentenced for her crimes, only being confined to a house arrest type punishment for the few remaining years of her life. Folklore would indulge the story further, claiming that Bathory would bathe in the blood of her victims in order to stay younger looking, but there was never any evidence to support that claim. http://www.historytoday.com/richard-cavendish/death-countess-elizabeth-bathory #1. Queen Mary I You don’t get a nickname like “Bloody Mary” unless you have done something to earn it. So how did this Queen of England end up at the top of history’s most infamous and evil women? Mary was most known for her short fuse and her hatred of Protestants. Throughout her reign, she would be responsible for the deaths of hundreds of Protestants, and most of the surviving members of this religious sect would flee the country to avoid execution. The hundreds that were killed, were burned at the stake. https://englishhistory.net/tudor/monarchs/queen-mary-1/ |

Without further ado, it is time to see who made the cut for the Top Ten Most Infamously Evil Women In History. \n\n#10. Willamina Dean \nAlso known as Minnie, Willamina would be one of New Zealand’s most infamous citizens. \n\nhttps://nzhistory.govt.nz/baby-farmer-minnie-dean-hanged\n\n#9. Belle Gunness\nCollecting life insurance policies has been a motive for murder for many, many years now. \n\nhttps://www.biography.com/people/belle-gunness-235416\n\n\n\n\n#8. Mary Ann Cotton \nThough her tally of victims might pale in comparison to Belle Gunness, Mary Ann Cotton is perceived as the first female serial killer that England would ever see. \n\nhttps://the-line-up.com/mary-ann-cotton-englands-first-serial-killer \n\n#7. Lizzie Borden \nThis was a strange case in history of the court of public opinion vs. the actual court findings. \n\nhttp://www.rollingstone.com/culture/features/lizzie-borden-why-a-19th-century-murder-still-fascinates-us-w432670\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n#6. Ilse Koch\nThere is no mistaking that the Nazi regime was one of the worst mars in history. \n\nhttp://all-that-is-interesting.com/ilse-koch\n\n#5. Myra Hindley\nOne of the two people responsible for the Moors Murders in England, Myra Hindley was one of England’s most infamous evil women. \n\nhttp://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/myra-hindleys-confessions-moors-murders-12764799\n\n#4. Irma Grese\nEven though Ilse Koch would reportedly collect tattooed skin for keepsakes, she doesn’t hold a candle to this second Nazi concentration camp warden. \n\nhttp://warfarehistorynetwork.com/daily/wwii/irma-grese-the-blonde-beast-of-birkenau-and-belsen/\n\n#3. Beverly Allitt\nThe media would dub her “The Angel of Death”, and she would be another English lady to take her aggressions out on the most defenseless of us all: children. \n\nhttp://www.crimeandinvestigation.co.uk/crime-files/beverly-allitt\n\n#2. Elizabeth Bathory\nAs we can see from looking at this list, Europe has seen its fair share of evil women throughout the years. \n\nhttp://www.historytoday.com/richard-cavendish/death-countess-elizabeth-bathory\n\n#1. Queen Mary I \nYou don’t get a nickname like “Bloody Mary” unless you have done something to earn it. \n\nhttps://englishhistory.net/tudor/monarchs/queen-mary-1/",
