I felt the vegan butcher was a great metaphor for the conflict many of us feel. The consumption of the meat represents embracing the state or \"consuming\" its narrative of authority.",

      "body": "Another day, another dollar,\nas my blade sinks into the clammy flesh\nof the carcass of a creature murdered in an assembly line.\nJust grabbing a hunk of pork through my gloved fingers\nmakes my skin crawl.\n\nThe only thing more disgusting than handling this corpse?\nKnowing that people will eventually eat of it,\nlick their lips, and ask for more.\nSuch is the plight of the town’s only vegan butcher.\n\nI avoid animal consumption -- opting instead for alternatives --\nfor the simple reason of: garbage in, garbage out.\nThe only cut I recommend is none\n\nBut I wasn’t always the town’s only vegan butcher.\nFor I once savored this job and was the happiest butcher in the world.\nI once loved the taste of meat.
