body# Steer users to Steemit blogposts while using WordPress websites for context # Steemit is good for blogposts but we need to connect posts to a coherent structure for long-term content development. The solution that I am personally testing is to develop the WordPress website at SeaweedChain.com as an overarching structure and to do blogposts on Steemit.com@seaweedchain. Various means for connecting the two are in development so I am still groping for the optimum formula. Content from the two platforms is being combined to create e-books, course materials and other forms of reference material for use in real-world projects. I retain files with the images and text of each post that I do on Steemit, so I can readily reproduce them or do edited versions in various formats. # Linking of posts to the website is low-tech for now # I am experimenting with various widgets that link Steemit and WordPress (see some references below) but for now I am going ‘low-tech’ in linking my Steemit posts to the website. I simply list Steemit posts on the relevant website pages, so readers can go over to Steemit to see them. In the process, I hope they will decide to sign on to Steemit and help to build Steemit communities. The structure of my website was previewed on my Steemit post entitled “Four foundation frameworks for seashore aquaculture development”. A revised version is depicted in the image above. Most of my Steemit blogposts fit into one or more of the website sections indicated on the sitemap so as posts are written they are incorporated and/or posted as website content. # All blogposts are not created equal # For present purposes I have placed types of blogpost in four categories as indicated in the image above. The categories are defined by the ‘shelf life’ or ‘expiration period’ of blogpost content as follows: # Topical, promotional and speculative posts relevant for days or weeks # Lots of posts have a shelf-life that can measured in days. These are posts such as predictions of where cryptocurrency prices will be by a certain time or promotion of an ICO that will happen soon. A prediction whose time has passed retains relevance especially if it is part of a pattern that becomes part of history … perhaps because it indicates an outstanding track-record of correct (or wrong) predictions. # News, information and progress reports relevant for weeks or months # Posts such as these are reporting on current events as they happen but before they can be placed in historical context. For example, they may cover cryptocurrency movements over time and up to the date of post publication; or they may report the results of an ICO rollout. In due course such posts get archived as their content is assimilated into history. # History, theories and methods relevant for months or years # Posts that report history; present well-developed and tested theories; or describe validated methods for doing things can be relevant for many months or years until they require an update. For example, ‘how-to’ posts about how to integrate Steemit content into WordPress websites should be updated once widgets and programming prove their efficacy in daily practice. # Facts, fundamentals and finished works that stand the test of time # Most of my blogposts fall either into this category or into the previous one. They strive to present fundamental models that have stood the test of time during application to practical aquaculture enterprise development along tropical seashores. Many of these principles were relevant 50+ years ago when I started in the game and will continue, I hope, to be relevant at least 50 years hence. # Takeaways that turn blogposts into enduring KITS # In and of themselves blogposts are a stream of blurbs that may be more (or less) profound, but they are not well suited to practical application in real-world projects or business development. Before action can be taken, blogpost material must be used to create knowledge, information, tools and solutions (KITS) designed for to reach specific goals. (see my recent post entitled “Six steps for harnessing Steemit virtuous cycles to grow your projects” for more about KITS). For me the Seaweedchain.com WordPress website is central to the process of KITS production. It facilitates contacts that lead to collaborative projects and it also serves as the distribution hub for materials such as PDF e-books, hard-copy publications, videos and images. In the past I have successfully used websites for these purposes including the now-defunct SuriaLink.com, Satoumi.co and Seaplant.net and I am still affiliated with Jasuda.net but none of these websites has generated income in and of themselves. Also, they have had limited followings due to the limited ‘niches’ that they inhabited. I am hoping that by harnessing the strengths of Steemit and the WordPress website I can build a more effective platform for moving things forward through the SeaweedChain project. So full Steem ahead! For example, they may cover cryptocurrency movements over time and up to the date of post publication; or they may report the results of an ICO rollout. In due course such posts get archived as their content is assimilated into history.\n\n# History, theories and methods relevant for months or years #\nPosts that report history; present well-developed and tested theories; or describe validated methods for doing things can be relevant for many months or years until they require an update. For example, ‘how-to’ posts about how to integrate Steemit content into WordPress websites should be updated once widgets and programming prove their efficacy in daily practice. \n# Facts, fundamentals and finished works that stand the test of time #\nMost of my blogposts fall either into this category or into the previous one. They strive to present fundamental models that have stood the test of time during application to practical aquaculture enterprise development along tropical seashores. Many of these principles were relevant 50+ years ago when I started in the game and will continue, I hope, to be relevant at least 50 years hence.\n# Takeaways that turn blogposts into enduring KITS #\nIn and of themselves blogposts are a stream of blurbs that may be more (or less) profound, but they are not well suited to practical application in real-world projects or business development. Before action can be taken, blogpost material must be used to create knowledge, information, tools and solutions (KITS) designed for to reach specific goals. (see my recent post entitled “Six steps for harnessing Steemit virtuous cycles to grow your projects” for more about KITS).\n\nFor me the Seaweedchain.com WordPress website is central to the process of KITS production. \n\nI am hoping that by harnessing the strengths of Steemit and the WordPress website I can build a more effective platform for moving things forward through the SeaweedChain project. \n\nSo full Steem ahead! \nCheers, Iain\n\nReferences:\n\nSome go-to sources for linking Steemit to WordPress are \nhttps://steemit.com/@wordpress-tips\nhttps://steemit.com/@howo\nhttps://steemit.com/@mcfarhat\n\n",

body# EAA recognizes that people are integral to ecosystems and should be at the core of biodiversity management # Core ideas underlying the ecosystem approach of FAO (2010) were summarized in Box 1 of that publication and are quoted in full below: “The ecosystem approach (EA) recognizes that:  Humans are an integral part of important ecosystems, and people should be at the center of biodiversity management. This implies the need for integrated, participatory approaches in the identification of issues and further in to “ecosystem” management.  Ecosystems provide services that underpin most human activity, and that we need to ensure that we do not threaten the sustained delivery of these services through damage to ecosystem functions.  Given our ignorance of the functioning of these highly complex systems, there is a need for a precautionary and adaptive approach.  Some activities threaten or reduce the quality of ecosystem services available to society at large and therefore represent a cost that should be accounted or internalized.  Waste products from one activity or sector may serve as inputs to another, thus enhancing productivity and reducing pressure on ecosystem functions and services.  Ecosystems function at a range of scales from highly local to global and we therefore need a “nested” approach with different approaches to management according to scale.  There is a need for analysis and understanding of the broader social, economic and environmental implications of meeting targets and for transparency of decision-making in relation to trade-offs between social, economic and environmental objectives.” # Seaplants are the primary producers in EAA systems # The image above illustrates how important elements of energy, nutrient, water and gas exchange interact within seashore habitats. In EAA systems, seaplants such as seaweeds, sea grasses and microalgae perform several functions that result in the delivery of ecosystem services. Their metabolic processes utilize energy, materials, water, nutrients and gases to produce biomass and metabolites that impact on other organisms. This occurs in natural systems and in aquaculture systems and in combined systems. From a commercial standpoint, seaweeds also have a primary function because they tend to be cash crops that are produced all year long and therefore provide essential cash flow for the operation of satoumi economies. # In EAA systems, management of natural habitats and farmed areas is integrated in satoumi seascapes # Managed and conserved seashore habitats (A in the image above) are mingled with integrated ecosystem approaches to aquaculture along seashores (B in the image above). Integrated aquaculture systems are managed in such a way that energy, nutrient, water and gas exchange are kept as much as possible within the system to minimize impacts on surrounding habitats. One of the essential developments leading to increased sustainable aquaculture will be the development of seaplants as “fodder” in integrated systems. For example, the use of high levels of fishmeal in aquaculture diets is problematic and more sustainable solutions must be found. The diversity of herbivorous fish and invertebrates endemic to tropical seashores gives cause for optimism that aquaculture development can progress based partly on lower trophic level species. # Satoumi approaches develop EAA in a localized ‘grass-roots’ manner # Framers of the FAO ecosystem approach to aquaculture pointed out that, as a strategy, it is not WHAT is done but rather HOW it is done … so participation of stakeholders is at the base of the strategy. On the other hand, the EAA document is heavily laden with material that addresses high-level policy, planning and governance issues. It seems to be a document that is aimed at bureaucrats more than it is at people who do aquaculture as their daily work. When aquaculture is done on a satoumi basis it is, of course, necessary to operate within bounds of externally-imposed governance systems and to integrate value chains into market systems and economies. The fact is, however, that it is business enterprises and entrepreneurs who make aquaculture happen … not bureaucrats. As businessmen we cannot wait for the slow wheels of bureaucracy to turn. The fact is that the EAA strategy is 100% compatible with the concept of satoumi. It is up to us, as satoumi enterprise owners and managers to apply the principles of EAA now, from the grass-roots … not to wait until those principles are forced on us from above. body# In satoumi seascapes generations of people can live and work in harmony with nature. # Wherever you go in Bali, you are surrounded by the mountains and the sea. My home-base in Bali is therefore an ideal place to join the concepts of satoumi and satoyama. These are concepts that blend human production systems with the ecology of mountain and ocean habitats. These Japanese concepts refer to practical, useful, grounded philosophical frameworks. # Satoumi is an overarching concept that can be improved and developed # The word ‘satoumi’ was coined by Professor Tetsuo about 1998 and ten years later it was achieving widespread use (Yanagi, 2008). The term ‘satoumi (Japanese for ‘village’ and ‘sea’) was derived from ‘satoyama’ (‘village’ and ‘mountain’). Satoyama is a Japanese concept for long-standing traditions that are associated with land management practices in mountainous regions. If we use English jargon, satoumi seascapes and satoyama landscapes are classified as ‘socio-economic production landscapes (SEPL). That is an awkward phrase that hints at some of what satoumi and satoyama are about, but terms like SEPL have no ‘magic’ about them. Satoumi is an overarching concept that can be improved on and developed as it is applied to integrating human enterprises into managed coastal sea areas worldwide. Satoumi fosters sustainable use of resources through symbiotic human interaction with ecosystems. It provides a model for environmental stewardship and resource management that contributes to human well-being in sustainable village economies. Satoumi has been defined in several ways. Originally Yanagi (2008) defined ‘satoumi’ as “high productivity and biodiversity in the coastal sea area with human interaction”. University of the United Nations (UNU) studied various satoyama and satoumi systems in Japan under the framework of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment Sub-Global Assessment in which they defined satoyama landscapes and satoumi seascapes as “dynamic mosaics of managed socio-ecological systems producing a bundle of ecosystem services for human well-being.” (JSSA 2010). # Satoumi in the real world# The concept of Sato-umi was embraced as a model for protecting and restoring enclosed coastal seas by the Japanese Government in the Strategy for an Environmental Nation in the 21st Century (2007) and the Basic Plan on Ocean Policy (2008). The concept has also been embraced by several national international initiatives including the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), Japan Satoyama Satoumi Assessment (JSSA), the Indonesia GAPURA program and JSPS Asian CORE. When I am involved in seashore aquaculture developments our first step is always do construct a ‘seascape mosaic’ starting with charts and satellite imagery and then followed by ‘ground-truthing’. The most important aspect of the ground-truthing is to get mosaic maps that are drawn by people who live and work in the seascape being developed. Examples are shown in the image above. Through workshops, interviews and collaborative field work it is possible to get an accurate picture of the status quo of satoumi at the baseline point and to find out what future state that people in the seascape aspire to. # Satoumi aquaculture … many products and many synergies # The image above depicts the range of aquaculture activities and the diversity of products that can play a part in satoumi seascape economies. By applying the FAO ‘Ecosystem Approach to Aquaculture’ (EAA) and by using Multistream Zero-Effluent (MUZE) processing, village enterprises can develop their economies in ways that maintain the integrity of ecosystems in the satoumi seascape. Distributed ledger technologies can play a part in several aspects of the environmental stewardship and resource management that contributes to human well-being in sustainable village economies in satoumi seascapes. body# Tropical aquaculture can grow sustainably only if it is integrated into the socio-economic and ecological environments of coastal communities. # # The concepts of satoumi and satoyama are at the core of the SeaweedChain approach to aquaculture value chain development. # For more than 40 years, I have had the good fortune to work with brilliant colleagues in hundreds of seashore communities in the tropics. We were building conceptual frameworks for executing projects but had no overarching philosophy and had no term that embraced our guiding concept. An epiphany came when I stumbled across the Japanese concept of ‘satoumi’ about ten years ago. This was not only a ‘term’ … it was also a grounded philosophical framework! The word ‘satoumi’ was created by Professor Tetsuo Yanagi of Kyushu University about 1998. In Japanese “sato” means village and “umi” means the sea so Yanagi defined ‘satoumi’ as “High productivity and biodiversity in the coastal sea area with human interaction” (Yanagi, 2008). The term “satoumi” was derived from ‘satoyama’ which is a Japanese concept for long-standing traditions associated with land management practices in mountainous regions. In Japan such traditions have fostered sustainable use of resources through symbiotic human interaction with ecosystems. They provide a model for environmental stewardship and resource management that contributes to human well-being. # SeaweedChain on Steemit is complementary to Seaweedchain.com # The image above reflects the homepage and sitemap of Seaweedchain.com. The Seaweedchain.com website and the Steemit.com@seaweedchain feed are complementary endeavors toward contributing useful content to growing agri-aquaculture communities around the world. The conceptual framework of our approach is defined by four connected foundation frameworks, each of which embraces four spheres of activity. The frameworks are connected as shown below. # The first framework is satoumi seascapes # Development of tropical aquaculture projects begins with satoumi seascapes for legal, moral, ethical and practical reasons. One compelling factor is that in many major jurisdictions (including Indonesia) coastal villages have the legal right to own and manage the foreshores adjacent to their villages. These villages are also where many of our workers and value-chain connections can be found. Connecting into coastal communities is a very complex endeavor so aquaculture project developers and operators can benefit from sharing their experiences and building a comprehensive set of best practices. The SeaweedChain project is striving to contribute to that effort. # The second framework is market systems inside economic systems # I suggest that many aquaculture industry woes (certainly in the case of seaweed farming) are caused by sloppy value chain management. In general value chains are opaque so the connections between ‘supply’ and ‘demand’ are poorly understood at all levels of the value chain. I postulate that this situation is a major cause of industry disfunctions described in my recent Steemit post entitled “Innovation can invigorate bogged-down tropical seaweed value chains”. I have sat through numerous presentations where planning authorities, industry groups and aid agencies have painted scenarios of seaweed farm development that are seriously disconnected from value chain facts and economic realities. I have made this case several times in presentations and books (e.g. Neish et al 2018 and Neish and Suryanarayan 2018) but communications by such means has not been effective. I hope that SeaweedChain on Steemit and my website can be a move toward getting points across more effectively. # The third framework is a suite of technologies that provides the tools of the trade # Innovations in newly developing technologies are enabling step changes that can drive tropical seaweed farming growth again after the decade of stagnation and supply / demand disruption described in my recent “bogged-down value chains” post. Advances in biotechnology have enabled development of seaweed-derived agricultural biostimulants products with standardized potency and known efficacy. Advances in hardware technology are enabling simple mechanization, effective crop logging and more efficient processing. Advances in software have transformed management practices and the advent of distributed ledger technologies promises to bring about step changes in value-chain management. The SeaweedChain project is striving to contribute to those advances. # The fourth framework is collaboration and alliance building # Aquaculture value chains in general (and seaweed value chains in particular) are dependent on trust-based strategic business alliances. Unfortunately, ‘trust’ can be expensive and time consuming to develop, and trust relationships are easily shattered by death, alienation, corporate restructuring, neglect and other events. This is where distributed-ledger technologies such as blockchains can have a profound impact. While interpersonal relationships will always be the central core of business collaboration and alliances, value chain transaction paths can be hugely facilitated by the efficiencies of distributed ledgers and by minimization of dependence on trust through use of consensus algorithms. body# Blockchain technologies like Steemit can help to get farm production out of a rut # In 1965 when I first got involved with seaweed science the industry was dominated by small, innovative companies. Those companies laid a foundation for respectable growth but by the late 1970s they had been absorbed by large firms that stifled innovation, so they could focus on milking profits from cash-cow product lines. During subsequent decades 'copycat' technology fueled proliferation of dozens of processing operations but total industry growth bogged down because innovative products were not being developed to supply significant new markets. Innovative, emerging technologies are now driving growth again and I am hoping that use of the Steemit platform can accelerate progress. # Tropical seaweed farming had strong growth for 30 years … then got bogged down # The image above summarizes events that have shaped my life. When I first came to Indonesia in search of seaweed in June 1974 tropical seaweed farming was still a dream. Trial and error had produced plenty of trials, a multitude of errors and deep skepticism among nay-sayers. Suddenly, in 1974, success was finally achieved by the teams of my old friends Vic Alvarez and Max Doty in the southernmost reaches of the Philippines and an industry was born! That event sent me on the way to a life in the tropics. Since then I have spent 40 years in aquaculture development in the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia and I am now settled in Bali for ‘the duration’. My focus is on how we can get seaweed aquaculture out of a rut and back on the road to innovation and growth. # Crazy prices have plagued tropical seaweed farming for the past decade # From early days in 1974 until 2008 seaweed prices tracked well with production costs and there was a reasonable balance between supply and demand. In early 2008 all that changed as prices spiked about five-fold for the types of tropical seaweeds that comprised the highest proportion of existing markets. It was ironic that by the time the price spike happened, supply and demand for those seaweeds was substantially balanced. Almost all farmed tropical seaweed was consumed as raw material for making the hydrocolloids known as carrageenan and agar. Those were (and remain as) slow-growing markets with steady demand throughout the year. Poor trade data and trading games contributed to value-chain problems and apparently lessons were not well learned. At the time of writing we are in the midst of the third price spike in a decade. I earnestly hope that distributed ledger technologies will be a factor in providing solutions for this sort of sloppy value chain management. # Alpha players dominate … like whales in cryptocurrencies # When I started in the game in 1965 three innovative, medium-sized companies dominated the business: one each in the USA, France and Denmark. During the late 1970s those companies were absorbed by large multinational companies even as the advent of semi-refined carrageenan precipitated a swarm of ‘me-too’ processors around the world. During the past decade the situation has settled to a point where a few companies once again dominate the tropical seaweed and carrageenan businesses, and these are in the Philippines, Indonesia and China. At the time of writing Indonesia was the ‘alpha’ seaweed producer; China dominated processing; and the Philippines were losing ground in the zero-sum game that the business became. # Stifled innovation bogs down seaweed farm expansion # As long ago as 1975 my boss in the carrageenan business was berating our development people because the only major application for carrageenan was “puddings”. Unfortunately, there was little deviation from that scenario in the four decades that followed. Availability of farmed weed made semi-refined products possible and brought down carrageenan prices, but the range of major markets remained pretty much as shown in the figure above. As new processors entered markets they essentially copied the processes and product lines of established processors. This led to the present situation where there is large production over-capacity selling essentially undifferentiated products into markets that are virtually zero-sum games. # Innovative new technologies offer hope for the future # Tropical seaweed farming has become an important source of livelihood for people in thousands of coastal villages both in the Coral Triangle region and elsewhere (see references listed below). Several organizations (both private and public) are keen to see seaweed aquaculture resume development at the pace shown from 1974-2004. This can become possible if the industry moves beyond dependence on low-growth carrageenan and agar (hydrocolloid) markets and develops products with markets that have huge growth potential. Several of the most active areas of product development are listed on the image above. One of the most actively growing markets is for agricultural biostimulants and supplements markets and as such markets gain major traction, the demand for farmed tropical seaweeds will once again be on the rise. My focus is on how we can get seaweed aquaculture out of a rut and back on the road to innovation and growth.\n\n# Crazy prices have plagued tropical seaweed farming for the past decade #\n\t \nFrom early days in 1974 until 2008 seaweed prices tracked well with production costs and there was a reasonable balance between supply and demand. I earnestly hope that distributed ledger technologies will be a factor in providing solutions for this sort of sloppy value chain management.\n# Alpha players dominate … like whales in cryptocurrencies #\n\nWhen I started in the game in 1965 three innovative, medium-sized companies dominated the business: one each in the USA, France and Denmark. At the time of writing Indonesia was the ‘alpha’ seaweed producer; China dominated processing; and the Philippines were losing ground in the zero-sum game that the business became.\n\n# Stifled innovation bogs down seaweed farm expansion #\n\nAs long ago as 1975 my boss in the carrageenan business was berating our development people because the only major application for carrageenan was “puddings”. \n\n# Innovative new technologies offer hope for the future #\n\nTropical seaweed farming has become an important source of livelihood for people in thousands of coastal villages both in the Coral Triangle region and elsewhere (see references listed below). One of the most actively growing markets is for agricultural biostimulants and supplements markets and as such markets gain major traction, the demand for farmed tropical seaweeds will once again be on the rise.\n\nSo full Steem ahead … \n\nCheers, Iain\n\nReferences:\n\nNeish IC, Sepulveda M, Hurtado AQ & Critchley AT. 2018. body# My vocation in aquaculture is one of many that will can benefit from harnessing Steemit virtuous cycles to grow projects. # # Six steps to Steempower from Steemit posts can drive virtuous cycles # I need to use ‘heuristic models’ to sort out my thinking about systems. The model sketched above is my current spin on how Steemit and Steem can play key roles in moving projects forward. I call this process ‘virtuous cycles of Steemit’ because actions form a feedback loop that grows content as it builds Steempower and facilitates project growth. # Step 1: Mobilize your inventories of content # In my case … and in the case of hundreds of my colleagues in science and technology … I have a large inventory of Knowledge, Information, Tools and Solutions (I call that ‘KITS). Surely, it is better to have that content in a living, accessible form on Steemit, earning Steempower, than to have it wasting away on bookshelves and hard drives! My content inventory comes from more than 50 years at every level of seaweed aquaculture value chains. I also generate new KITS almost every day as new projects evolve. I like to think that a lot of this stuff can be useful to other people. Why repeat my mistakes when you can learn from your own and also pass forward? # Step 2: Link your contacts into Steemit # In today’s planet of social media bubbles, we can build networks far beyond the legacy notion of personal contacts. As a skeptic of social media, I have avoided creating a Facebook persona but almost against my will I have accumulated hundreds of professional and personal contacts through Linkedin. It is now one of my missions to persuade these folks to join me in building Steemit communities around fields pertaining to our vocations. # Step 3: Build Steempower # Such credits as I may acquire on Steemit will be stashed in Steempower as I try to move above the newbie – minnow level … even as I participate in communities that are presently thinly populated in Steemworld. I am hoping that my experience on Steemit serves as a case that can persuade others in my networks to join me in growing ‘critical mass’ among our communities. # Step 4: Build crypto-wealth # I am an old dog learning new tricks as I hang out with my drinking buddies in Bali beach bars. Tired of just talking (and not doing), some of us have joined to form a ‘Bali-Boys Krypto Club’. We pool funds to get some skin in the game and that focuses our discussions as we strive to figure out what crypto platforms will be the winners and which ICO will make us beach-bum millionaires. # Step 5: Use distributed- ledger technologies in your projects # For aquaculture ventures, certainly, I can see where a multitude of distributed-ledger technologies can advance the state of the art and make for more efficient value chains. Use of Steemit as a hub for content sharing is an early step. We are learning how to use drones for crop logging and input applications; we are using sharing and storage apps on ‘the cloud’; we are figuring out how to use blockchain smart contracts and supply-chain tracking; we are easing our way into cryptocurrency transactions … the list is growing fast. # Step 6: Lessons learned generate more quality content # It is fine and dandy to be refurbishing and recycling our content inventories, but it is equally important to evolve that content using lessons newly learned. Social and technological development is moving at such a mind-boggling pace that we are dependent on the folks that can distill things to the essence and pass KITS on to others. This is exactly how I first heard of Steemit when some of my favorite crypto gurus including David Hay overcame initial doubts and started to post on Steemit. By posting quality content based on lessons learned we close the Steemit virtuous cycle and propel it its next iteration. # So full Steem ahead … # Cheers, Iain

"body": "# My vocation in aquaculture is one of many that will can benefit from harnessing Steemit virtuous cycles to grow projects. #\n\n# Six steps to Steempower from Steemit posts can drive virtuous cycles #\n\nI need to use ‘heuristic models’ to sort out my thinking about systems. The model sketched above is my current spin on how Steemit and Steem can play key roles in moving projects forward. I call this process ‘virtuous cycles of Steemit’ because actions form a feedback loop that grows content as it builds Steempower and facilitates project growth.\n# Step 1: Mobilize your inventories of content #\n\nIn my case … and in the case of hundreds of my colleagues in science and technology … I have a large inventory of Knowledge, Information, Tools and Solutions (I call that ‘KITS). Surely, it is better to have that content in a living, accessible form on Steemit, earning Steempower, than to have it wasting away on bookshelves and hard drives! \n My content inventory comes from more than 50 years at every level of seaweed aquaculture value chains. I also generate new KITS almost every day as new projects evolve. I like to think that a lot of this stuff can be useful to other people. Why repeat my mistakes when you can learn from your own and also pass forward?\n# Step 2: Link your contacts into Steemit #\nIn today’s planet of social media bubbles, we can build networks far beyond the legacy notion of personal contacts. As a skeptic of social media, I have avoided creating a Facebook persona but almost against my will I have accumulated hundreds of professional and personal contacts through Linkedin. It is now one of my missions to persuade these folks to join me in building Steemit communities around fields pertaining to our vocations.\n# Step 3: Build Steempower #\nSuch credits as I may acquire on Steemit will be stashed in Steempower as I try to move above the newbie – minnow level … even as I participate in communities that are presently thinly populated in Steemworld. I am hoping that my experience on Steemit serves as a case that can persuade others in my networks to join me in growing ‘critical mass’ among our communities.\n# Step 4: Build crypto-wealth #\nI am an old dog learning new tricks as I hang out with my drinking buddies in Bali beach bars.
