body
![](https://swarborno.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/General-Characters-of-Leishmania-donovani.webp)
Image source : [General Characters of Leishmania donovani | Labeled Diagram](https://swarborno.com/general-characters-of-leishmania-donovani-diagram/) *Leishmania donovani* is a parasitic protozoan that causes visceral leishmaniasis, a debilitating and potentially fatal disease. The disease primarily affects people living in poor and rural areas of the world, and it can have significant economic impacts on affected communities. One major economic impact of visceral leishmaniasis is the cost of treatment. The disease can be treated with a variety of drugs, but the cost of these drugs can be prohibitively expensive for many affected individuals. In addition, the cost of transportation to receive treatment and the cost of lost income due to missed work can also be significant. Another economic impact of visceral leishmaniasis is the loss of productivity. The disease can cause severe debilitation, and it can lead to significant reductions in the ability to work and provide for one's family. This can lead to poverty, and it can also lead to a cycle of poverty as children are forced to drop out of school to work and support their families. Visceral leishmaniasis can also have economic impacts on communities through the loss of tourism. The disease is endemic in many areas that are popular tourist destinations, and it can lead to a decrease in tourism and a loss of revenue for the local economy. In addition to the direct economic impacts, visceral leishmaniasis can also have indirect impacts on the economy. For example, the disease can lead to decreased investment in affected areas, as investors may be hesitant to invest in areas that are affected by a serious health problem. Overall, visceral leishmaniasis caused by *Leishmania donovani* can have significant economic impacts on affected communities. Addressing the disease through control and treatment programs can help to reduce these impacts and improve the economic well-being of affected individuals and communities. Research on the economic impacts of *Leishmania donovani* is ongoing, and it may lead to new strategies for addressing the disease. For example, scientists are investigating ways to develop more affordable drugs for the treatment of visceral leishmaniasis, which could help to reduce the cost of treatment for affected individuals. Additionally, scientists are studying the economic impacts of the disease in order to develop strategies for addressing the disease that take into account the economic realities of affected communities.

titleTrypanosoma gambiense is a curse in Africa.
body
![General Characteristics of Trypanosoma1.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZpjrDzgZnJj2VgnKJD95RUGW9MRT7KtcYXEYyjC9nAsu/General%20Characteristics%20of%20Trypanosoma1.jpg)
Image source : [General Characteristics of Trypanosoma gambiense | Diagram](https://swarborno.com/general-characteristics-of-trypanosoma-gambiense-labeled-diagram/) *Trypanosoma gambiense* is a parasitic protozoan that causes human African trypanosomiasis, also known as sleeping sickness. It is transmitted to humans through the bite of the tsetse fly, which can be found in rural areas of West and Central Africa. The parasite primarily affects the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and insomnia. As the disease progresses, it can lead to neurological problems such as confusion, disorientation, and difficulty walking. In later stages, it can lead to coma and even death if left untreated. The incubation period of the disease can vary, but it is typically several weeks to several months after infection before symptoms begin to appear. The initial symptoms of sleeping sickness may be mild and easily mistaken for other illnesses, making it difficult to diagnose. The disease progresses in two stages: the first stage, also known as the hemolymphatic stage, is characterized by fever, swollen lymph nodes, and a skin rash. The second stage, known as the meningoencephalitic stage, is characterized by neurological symptoms such as confusion, disorientation, and difficulty walking. *T. gambiense* is found in West and Central Africa, and it is estimated that around 300,000 people are infected with the parasite. The disease is most common in rural areas where tsetse flies are found and where people are in close contact with the vectors. Sleeping sickness is a serious public health problem in many parts of Africa and it poses a significant economic burden on affected communities. Diagnosis of *T. gambiense* requires laboratory testing, and it can be difficult and prolonged. The most common diagnostic method is the detection of the parasite in the blood using microscopy. However, this method is not always reliable, and other methods such as PCR, serology, and molecular biology techniques are also used. Treatment of the disease can also be difficult and prolonged. The first-line drugs for *T. gambiense* are pentamidine and suramin, but these drugs have significant side-effects and can be toxic. Eflornithine and nifurtimox-eflornithine combination therapy (NECT) are newer drugs that are more effective and have fewer side-effects, but they are not widely available in many parts of Africa. There is currently no vaccine available to prevent infection with *T. gambiense*. Control of the disease is primarily based on vector control and early diagnosis and treatment of infected individuals. Eliminating the tsetse fly vector is difficult and costly, and it is not a practical solution in many areas. Other methods such as mass screening and treatment of at-risk populations, education and awareness campaigns, and improved access to diagnostic and treatment services are also important in controlling the disease. Overall, *Trypanosoma gambiense* is a parasitic protozoan that causes human African trypanosomiasis and it is transmitted to humans through the bite of the tsetse fly. In later stages, it can lead to coma and even death if left untreated.\n\nThe incubation period of the disease can vary, but it is typically several weeks to several months after infection before symptoms begin to appear. The second stage, known as the meningoencephalitic stage, is characterized by neurological symptoms such as confusion, disorientation, and difficulty walking.\n\n*T. gambiense* is found in West and Central Africa, and it is estimated that around 300,000 people are infected with the parasite. The disease is most common in rural areas where tsetse flies are found and where people are in close contact with the vectors. Sleeping sickness is a serious public health problem in many parts of Africa and it poses a significant economic burden on affected communities.\n\nDiagnosis of *T. gambiense* requires laboratory testing, and it can be difficult and prolonged. Eflornithine and nifurtimox-eflornithine combination therapy (NECT) are newer drugs that are more effective and have fewer side-effects, but they are not widely available in many parts of Africa.\n\nThere is currently no vaccine available to prevent infection with *T. gambiense*. Control of the disease is primarily based on vector control and early diagnosis and treatment of infected individuals. Eliminating the tsetse fly vector is difficult and costly, and it is not a practical solution in many areas. Other methods such as mass screening and treatment of at-risk populations, education and awareness campaigns, and improved access to diagnostic and treatment services are also important in controlling the disease.\n\nOverall, *Trypanosoma gambiense* is a parasitic protozoan that causes human African trypanosomiasis and it is transmitted to humans through the bite of the tsetse fly. The disease primarily affects the central nervous system, causing symptoms such as fatigue, headaches, and insomnia, and it can lead to neurological problems such as confusion, disorientation, and difficulty walking. *T. gambiense* is found in West and Central Africa, and it is a serious public health problem in many parts of Africa. bodyThe life cycle of *Ascaris lumbricoides*, a common human roundworm, begins with the ingestion of infective eggs. These eggs are passed in the feces of an infected individual and can survive in the environment for several weeks to months. When the eggs are consumed, they hatch in the small intestine and the larvae migrate to the lungs through the bloodstream. In the lungs, the larvae mature and migrate up the bronchial tree to the throat, where they are swallowed and returned to the small intestine.
![Life Cycle of Ascaris lumbricoides1.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQhF22z5jH94CEKepyzubqNqRu8PsqFogjSZTHTF1Gj1H/Life%20Cycle%20of%20Ascaris%20lumbricoides1.jpg)
Once in the small intestine, the larvae develop into adult worms. Adult females can reach up to 40cm in length and adult males can reach up to 20cm. The adult worms live in the small intestine and reproduce sexually. The females release fertilized eggs which are passed in the feces. [The life cycle of *Ascaris lumbricoides*](https://swarborno.com/life-cycle-of-ascaris-lumbricoides-diagram/) can take several weeks to a couple of months, depending on the conditions. Heavy infections can cause malnutrition, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In rare cases, the migration of the larvae through the lungs can cause coughing and difficulty breathing. The infection can be treated with medication such as albendazole or mebendazole. Good hygiene practices, such as washing hands regularly and properly disposing of feces, can help prevent infection.

titleEyes of Scoliodon
bodyThey are also called photoreceptor organs. Scoliodon has a pair of large eyes. The eyes are located inside the eye sockets, one on each side of the head. ![eyeball of scoliodon 1.webp](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaBDx1zbnuY8MWNFYg1F6vkg7YJ99ThtCSURpXJ1KxtCa/eyeball%20of%20scoliodon%201.webp) #### A. Eye muscle The eyeball has an elliptical shape. The eyeball remains attached to the inner wall of the orbit by 6 eye muscles and a cartilaginous stalk called the optic pedicle. There are two groups of eye muscles. They are oblique muscles and rectus muscles. There are 2 oblique muscles and they are the 1st oblique muscle lower and the 2nd oblique muscle upper. The inferior oblique muscle is attached to the antero-ventral side of the eyeball. The superior oblique muscle is attached to the anterodorsal side of the eyeball. The action of the oblique muscles twists the eyeball. There are 4 rectus muscles and they are 1. rectus inferior, 2. rectus superior, 3. rectus anterior and 4. rectus posterior. The inferior rectus muscle is attached to the postero-ventral side of the eyeball. The superior rectus muscle is attached to the postero-dorsal side of the eyeball. The inferior and superior rectus muscles serve to rotate the eyeball in the vertical plane. The anterior (or internal) and posterior (or external) rectus muscles are inserted anteriorly and posteriorly. The anterior and posterior rectus muscles serve to rotate the eyeball in the horizontal plane. #### B. Internal structure The outermost layer of the eyeball is the scleral layer. The sclerotic layer is divided into two parts. The front part is the cornea and the back part is the sclera. The cornea is transparent and allows light rays to enter the eye. It is covered by a thin and transparent conjunctiva. The choroid layer is located below the sclerotic layer. The choroid is a richly vascularized and pigmented layer. At the anterior end of the choroid, just behind the cornea, the choroid forms a pigmented circular disc called the iris. The iris has an opening in the center called the pupil. The entire eyeball is opaque to light except for the pupil. Immediately behind the pupil is a large crystalline lens. The pupil cannot contract and dilate. The suspensory ligaments are located just behind the iris and hold the lens in place. The innermost layer of the eyeball is the retina. This is the only part of the eyeball sensitive to light. The retina consists mainly of elongated receptor cells, or rods, which are connected to the fibers of the optic nerve. Scoliodon has no cone cells. A clear saline fluid, aqueous humor, fills a small chamber in front of the lens. The very large chamber behind the lens is filled with a gelatinous substance, the vitreous. [Scoliodon eyes](https://swarborno.com/sense-organs-of-scoliodon-diagram/). #### C. Mechanism of vision/sight The eyes of sharks are large but far apart, so binocular vision is not possible. Power of accommodation is poor due to non-contracting pupils and little change in lens shape. But the lens can be moved forward to capture more light. Since the retina is devoid of cones, the fish is color blind and the eye cannot distinguish small details. But the eye is adapted for close-up vision in the dark, and fish can see their prey. Light rays pass through the cornea, pupil and lens and reach the retina. The image formed by the retina is transmitted to the brain by means of the optic nerves.

body
https://www.notesonzoology.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/07/clip_image008_thumb-15.jpg
The floor of the bucopharyngeal cavity is compressed by the contraction of the hypobranchial (hypoglossal) muscles, due to which the visceral arches expand the pharyngeal wall, so that seawater containing dissolved oxygen flows in through the open mouth. Water entering the external branch holes is prevented by an anterior fold of skin on each gill pouch. During exhalation, the mouth is closed by the action of the adductors. Now the buccopharyngeal floor is raised and the contraction of the pharyngeal wall pushes the water into the internal branch openings, the esophagus is closed, and further into the gill slits, where it washes the branchial lamellae and exits through the external branch openings. Respiratory movements are caused by the pharyngeal muscles, which are innervated by cranial nerves V, VII, IX, and X and the hypoglossal spinal nerve. In the branches of the lamellae, the blood flows from the tip to the base, i.e. in the opposite direction to the direction of the water flow, so that just before leaving the lamellae, the blood encounters the highest concentration of oxygen and the lowest concentration of carbon dioxide, so there is an efficient exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide between the blood and sea water. Fresh seawater entering the gill pouches with the respiratory stream contains dissolved oxygen. This water is separated from the blood contained in the capillaries of the gill lamellae only by the thin and permeable membrane walls of the capillaries. The oxygen of the water passes through the thin capillary walls into the blood through endosmosis, and at the same time carbon dioxide from the blood passes into the water through the process of exosmosis. Oxygen is carried by the blood to all parts of the body, while the carbon dioxide supplied to the gills in the venous blood is eliminated by the water of the outgoing respiratory stream. Considering that the blood creates a complete circulation in the capillaries of the gills in a very short time, it is obvious that the gas exchange also takes place very quickly. Reference: 1. titleTips on How to Keep Guinea Pigs Healthy and Happy
body![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/77/Small_Guinea_Pig.jpg) [Image source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Small_Guinea_Pig.jpg) When kept as pets, guinea pigs can become very trusting and affectionate creatures. They are known to form complex social relationships, maintain friendships, and even have their own unique personal habits. Keeping them as pets also comes with responsibilities. You need to make sure that they stay happy and healthy at all times. That’s why it is important to know what sort of diet they require, how often you should interact with them so they don’t become lonely, and much more. If you are thinking about getting a guinea pig as a pet or you already have one at home, read on for useful tips on how to keep your guinea pigs happy and healthy at all times. It is not very difficult once you know the tricks. #### Introduction to Guinea Pigs Guinea pigs are rodents native to South America. They are kept as pets around the world. These animals live in social groups and are known to bond with humans. They also form strong social bonds with one another. Guinea pigs are herbivores and are commonly kept as indoor pets. They are clean animals that don’t produce much waste. Guinea pigs are also not aggressive at all. They are known to be very delicate creatures, so they cannot be kept outside. Guinea pigs are social animals that love to be handled and cuddled. They can become very affectionate and trusting if they are handled regularly from a young age. #### Diet When compared to other animals, guinea pigs are quite simple when it comes to diet. They only need food that is rich in fibre and low in protein. A diet that is rich in protein can lead to obesity and other health issues in guinea pigs. You will find commercial guinea pig food in pet stores. You can also find many recipes online that you can use to make food for your pig at home. Guinea pigs can eat lots of fruits and vegetables. It is recommended that you feed your pig fresh food as often as you can. You should also make sure that you get your pig some hay. Hay is rich in fibre, and it is also used to keep the teeth of your pig healthy. You also need to learn the [digestive system of the guinea pigs](https://swarborno.com/digestive-system-of-the-guinea-pig-cavia-porcellus/). #### Frequent Handling and Playing Time for Guinea Pigs One of the most important things you can do for your pig is to handle it on a daily basis. If you handle your pig regularly, it will remain calm even if it is handled by someone else. Guinea pigs are known to be very sensitive, so you need to interact with your pig regularly to make sure that it does not feel stressed out. You can cuddle with your pig and play with it on a regular basis. If you are looking to socialize your pig, you can try to get it to spend time with other pigs. If you keep two pigs together, you need to make sure that they don’t fight with each other. #### Bedding, Environment and Accessories for Guinea Pigs You can keep your pig in a cage or a small pen. You should keep the pen clean, and you should also change the bedding regularly. You can use shavings made of hay, paper, or wood as bedding for your pig. You can also use fleece blankets or sheets. You can also add toys, tunnels, and other accessories to the pen to keep your pig occupied. #### Conclusion Keeping guinea pigs as pets can be a very enriching experience. However, you need to make sure that you are taking care of them properly. You can keep your pigs happy and healthy by feeding them the right kinds of food, playing with them on a regular basis, and handling them on a daily basis. Follow these tips, and you will be able to keep your pigs happy and healthy.

"body": "![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/77/Small_Guinea_Pig.jpg)\n[Image source](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Small_Guinea_Pig.jpg)\n\n\nWhen kept as pets, guinea pigs can become very trusting and affectionate creatures. It is not very difficult once you know the tricks.\n\n\n#### Introduction to Guinea Pigs\nGuinea pigs are rodents native to South America. \n\n\n#### Diet\nWhen compared to other animals, guinea pigs are quite simple when it comes to diet. You also need to learn the [digestive system of the guinea pigs](https://swarborno.com/digestive-system-of-the-guinea-pig-cavia-porcellus/).\n\n\n#### Frequent Handling and Playing Time for Guinea Pigs\nOne of the most important things you can do for your pig is to handle it on a daily basis. If you handle your pig regularly, it will remain calm even if it is handled by someone else. Guinea pigs are known to be very sensitive, so you need to interact with your pig regularly to make sure that it does not feel stressed out. You can cuddle with your pig and play with it on a regular basis. If you are looking to socialize your pig, you can try to get it to spend time with other pigs. titleMedusa and it's overview.
bodyMedusa are the motile sexual zooids of the Obelia. They swim freely. Both the male and female medusa releases gametes to the surrounding water. After releasing the gametes, the parent medusa die soon. Gametes fuse together and form a new Obelia colony. You can get more information about Obelia from [here](https://swarborno.com/obelia-habitat-colony-structure-reproduction-life-cycle/).

titleObelia and it's overview.
body*Obelia* is an invertebrate belongs to Cnidaria phylum. It has two life stage and they are asexual immobile stage and sexual motile stage. Asexual stage is called Obelia colony and sexual stage is called medusa. When the colony is young, it is monomorphic because it has only one zooid called polyp. After maturing the polyps, another zooid, blastostyle arises from the axis of the mature zooids. Then it turns into dimorphic colony because the colony has two zooids named polyps and blastostyles. Inside the blastostyles, medusa buds develop and after maturing the buds, they detach from the blastostyle and swim freely in the surrounding water. After the medusa born, the dimorphic colony becomes trimorphic because it has three zooids named polyp, blastostyle and medusa. Polyps are the feeding zooid of the Obelia colony. It has tentacles and with the help of these tentacles, polyps prey and eat their food. Tentacles has nematocysts or preying organs. Polyps prey food and eat them. Food digest both extracellularly and intracellulary. The digested food is then served to the whole colony. Blastostyles are the reproductive zooids of the Obelia colony. Young colony doesn't have blastostyles. After maturing the colony, they arises from the axis of the polyps. Medusa buds develop gradually inside the blastostyles and after maturing the medusa buds, they detach from the blastostyles and come out to the surrounding water through gonopore. Medusa are the motile sexual zooids of the Obelia.
