| body | Thank you, @sandzat, for such a beautiful response :-) Nothing is unreachable in my opinion even when we won't reach the next step in our evolution during our lifetimes, or that of our children or grandchildren. Humankind's true strength is its ability to cooperate while remaining flexible through our individuality. Our lifes are governed through the stories we've grown up with and those we tell our offspring; those stories are what enables us to cooperate on large scales as they fuel us with a basic set of guidelines we all more or less follow, so we don't have to know each and every person we cooperate with. Our stories are wrong, that's all. With the right stories we create a mental landscape that's not contradicting real life. It's gonna be hard and will take a lot of time. But is it impossible? I don't know, I can only hope. What I refuse to do though, is give up on that possibility :-) |

| body | A 39 year old man, Ranveer Singh, a farmer who moved to Delhi from Agra to work as a home delivery executive for a restaurant died in Agra day before yesterday. He collapsed with chest pain possibly triggered by exhaustion from his 200 kms walk. Given his age and the fact that he's survived by his wife and three young children, it is especially unfortunate this happened despite the fact there there were policeman with water and food for people like him trekking home. But, why was he walking back home? Many countries are now under lockdown, India included. Unfortunately, the Government has had to declare a sudden lockdown to prevent steeper spikes in Covid-19 disease. People are asked to work from home. When the work is mental and requires a bit of infrastructure, working from home is an option, but what about the people who do physical work for their livelihood? And there are thousands and thousands of those. Many of them who migrated to cities for better work and pay to support themselves and their families back in the villages. Now that the country is under lockdown, they are being forced with no option but to go back home. Without the work here, there is no pay. Without pay, the daily wage workers have no food to eat. And no money for rent, so no place to stay. Report is that hundreds of thousands of workers, like Ranveer Singh have started back to their villages, back to their families. Image credit: Reuters Normally, if they were forced to go back home, they would undertake the journeys back home with money in their pockets and a train or a bus to take them home. However, the lockdown has affected all transport, and now the only option to relocate is on foot!! Yes, for the past couple of days have only been reading about all these people walking/cycling back to the villages from whence they came. All the trains and buses have grounded to a halt. Image credit: Reuters Even as I stood stunned reading that one person walked 80 kms (49.7 miles) to go back, I was hit with stories of more people daring longer, much longer journeys. A family's walking 200 kms with their belongings, another 800!! Two brothers have undertaken a 1200 kms (745.65 miles) journey on a bicycle! Who would think that the "weaker" sections of society as they are normally considered are actually very, very strong? Or bold! Now, there might be some who would call this recklessness, but I beg to differ, as they are left with no choice. Like in Ranveer Singh's case. Image credit: AFP For all those on the road, I pray they all reach their homes safe. Back in their hometowns safely, with the knowledge and skills they picked up in the cities, they could start business and live happily ever after or come back to the cities later. How I wish this could be the case. Image credit: Reuters But, think again. The lockdown was brought about to stop the coronavirus from local transmission. If the migrant workers are lucky, they would reach home safely and ride out this current dreadful scenario. But, if they and us (as a human team) are not lucky, they could be carrying the virus with them to India's hinterland! Where there are no medicines, no knowledge and no infrastructure as will be required to fight this mysterious virus! Worst case scenario: If they stay, they suffer the most and likely die. If they leave and reach their homes, they and more suffer and likely die. :'( Or like in Ranveer's case, he left and died on the way. Let's pray this doesn't happen to anyone else and either they all make it back home healthy and safe or the Government is able to help them understand what's happening and give them the strength to endure the lockdown. |

| body | Yes, we are existing in a fake world. One based totally on perceptions formed based on our individual upbringing, education, attitudes, social status and even health. Yes, a well educated and honestly informed population will be far more effective in handling the current or any similar situation we may encounter. However, hoping for such a population feels like an unreachable dream. We, the dominating species on this planet, as you said, also seem to have been blessed with the inherent capability to destroy ourselves, and with us our planet. For instance, I think democracy was formed with the idea that we all could be on the same page. That we could collectively take a call on who our leaders should be, and they would in turn help us get where we want to go together as an economy. However, by the same token, we decided we need an opposition party to do the needful when things didn't go the way planned. Why? 'cos in our "imagined" world as you call it, maybe there was not enough trust to begin with. I think the need of the hour is to get all the real facts, genuinely care for our future generations and try be the change we need to see in our world ourselves. Anyways, I think I went off the topic a bit, sorry, all I wanted to say is I enjoyed reading your post. Good food for thought there. :) Thanks! |

| body | Many countries are under lockdown, India included. Report is that hundreds of thousands of workers have started back to their villages, back to their families. Image credit: AFP I pray they all reach their homes safe awed by their own strength and grit. And I wish it were a happy ending despite the fact that they lost their jobs here. But, if they and us (as a human team) are not lucky, they could be carrying the virus with them to India's hinterland! | body | I don't mean to alarm anybody unnecessarily, and I'm not going to present any statistics here, but the truth is that this novel coronavirus, named SARS 2: COVID-19 is a very fast spreading disease. So am posting this again. As you may have observed in the news, the numbers of affected people are growing rapidly every day, and almost everywhere. None of us would have even dreamed that so many of our counterparts in different parts of our planet would get affected so quickly. So, please pay attention. Please take care.
Precautions:
For the sake of yourself and your loved ones, please stay indoors, work from home if possible, and absolutely avoid all non-essential contact with others and trips outside. If you must go out then, ensure you wear your masks, whether they help in keeping the viruses out or not, they'll atleast remind you not to touch your face, and that's a big thing in itself. Also, please carry and use hand sanitizer with 60% or above alcohol. Not 100%, because it will evaporate faster than it can kill the viruses, upwards of 60% - 75% will do. Also, please try maintain a minimum distance of 100 cms from the next person, especially if you find them coughing, sneezing or showing any other symptoms such as fever. Resistance to this virus has now begun on a war footing, with most countries bringing in extremely stringent measures to resist the spread. Know about how long the virus can last outside a human host. It has got varying life spans when clinging to different materials. Few hours on clothes, about 4 hours on copper, about 6-9 days on plastic and stainless steel to name a few. Know alongside all this that the virus can be destroyed in 30 seconds with soap and water. Avoid ACs when possible because the virus can leak through an AC vent and circulate freely. Know that while Covid-19 is not an airborne disease, it can survive in air for upto 3 hours, or atleast that's the info I came across. Please do check with WHO, your Doctors or knowledgeable people or reputable sources on the Internet yourself.
Symptoms:
Incubation period is anything between 1 to 27 days after which the symptoms start showing. Symptoms typically include dry cough, fever, tiredness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain and in more serious cases, breathing difficulties leading to acute respiratory distress or pneumonia.
Obstacles to recovery:
While originally the word was out that the elderly and the very young were the ones who had a greater risk of turning critical, it has now been found that there are many cases of younger and middle aged people too who are falling critically ill. Also, the number of beds in hospitals might not be sufficient for all the incoming patients. Apart from this, one should also appreciate that the medical staff are all already working around the clock sometimes sacrificing their own lives while saving lives. Absolutely no point in adding to the already heavily existing burden.
More food for thought:
Be kind. Appreciate the medical professionals for all that they are doing. Stay at home. Isolate/respectfully maintain a distance from elderly people, and little kids anywhere and all others when you go outside. Sanitize your hands. Please watch and share this video shared by our country's Prime Minister on how a virus spreads: https://twitter.com/narendramodi/status/1241257296996364288?s=20 Eat healthier and develop your immune systems. Spend time with your families at home. Read books. Learn new skills, even online. Stop the virus transmission. Let's please just stop the virus! This unexpected pandemic has catastrophic potential and can disrupt our lives and affect our livelihoods indefinitely. It already has for many unfortunate people. And for no real fault of theirs too. It is in our hands, collective hands to severely reduce the impact till a cure if found and an end is put to this novel virus. Please let's join hands together and do it for the sake of our human race and all our loved ones and for ourselves. |

I'm not going to present any statistics here, and I don't mean to alarm anybody unnecessarily, but the truth is that this novel coronavirus, named SARS 2: COVID-19 is a very fast spreading disease.
Love always, stay safe. Sandzat |
