bodyDollar cost averaging is the most sensible way to go. Making regular and consistent purchases ensures that the price fluctuations are filtered out. I've been buying bitcoin and SP irrespective of price. Why? Well what is the benefit in holding dollars? For the same reason I regularly purchase metals and have been happy with that approach. The recent pullback in the crypto prices is, as you suggest, a gift. @nolnocluap

We may never see Bitcoin below $2,000 again. What are you waiting for? Get some before the price goes back up to $2,800 or beyond. This could very well be the best investment opportunity of your life. Will you take advantage of it?

body![processor.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmWF2AwGjaHPvxgDDPojDYr7ewzk89T1kEWtLh7gpQGdUS/processor.jpg)Once a fringe notion, cryptocurrencies are now a fact of life, and the value of the market is increasing daily. While Bitcoin accounts for almost half the value of the market, the other $45 billion is divided among hundreds of lesser-known currencies from those you may have heard of like Ethereum and Litecoin to others like RonPaulCoin and HealthyWormCoin that you likely have not. One called 42-coin only has 42 coins in existence and is valued at even more than Bitcoin on a per-coin basis as a result. While it may be too late to get in on the ground floor, as it were, and turn pennies into millions over just a few years, there is still virtually unlimited potential for growth in the cryptocurrency market. While $90 billion is a lot of money by most standards, it's still relatively small compared to the $1.5 trillion in US currency which is circulating right now. It only took three weeks for the cryptocurrency market to double to its current high and two months for the prior doubling. Could it happen again in a matter of weeks or even days? It's certainly possible. One day we may look back on $2,800 Bitcoins the way folks are looking back at $100 Bitcoins today. No one can predict the future with absolute certainty, but betting on cryptocurrency has paid off big for early adopters and—in the big scheme of things—it's still early in this new frontier. There's still a whole lot of money to be made. Will some of it be yours?

bodyExcellent article. The reality you address is why the professionals and their lackeys taunt and denigrate those of us devoted to educating people and waking them up from their stupors. Instead of wasting time on politics and other distractions invented by the professionals to keep their victims occupied, we are—one by one—helping people see reality and break out of the Matrix-like illusion which has kept them in bondage to their professional oppressors. Every day, more people are recognizing not only the futility of politics, but that politics are an intricate form of manipulation cleverly designed to make individuals feel invested in the source of their own subjugation.

Obviously as a regular blogger, I'm not going to use a new platform exclusively as many of my readers expect to see my content on my website as well. Despite my reply to the disgruntled flagger, my article remains penalized by this ridiculous activity. If Steemit is to become a viable platform for content creators, the proliferation of down voting and flagging bots has to be addressed. Until it is, the future of the platform may well be in jeopardy. I can remove negative replies from my own website and even Facebook allows me to delete comments from my own threads, but with Steemit, I must endure the negativity that exists under my posts. As a professional web designer and regular content creator, I can tell you that is not going to lead to a happy or vibrant community.

bodyWhile I don't yet have children of my own, I have more experience with children than you might imagine. I have found most of them to be far more intelligent than they are given credit for, and (while they certainly don't have a full understanding of everything they encounter) they are almost always curious and eager to learn. The trick that has worked well for me is simply to treat them like people; talk to them, answer questions, and allow them to pretty much do what they want. I suppose YMMV, but so far I've had very good results from these techniques.

authorparrishmiller
body I am a libertarian, so I have several reasons for opposing Donald Trump's candidacy which may not be applicable to most conservatives, but there are also some very compelling reasons why consistent conservatives and "Tea Party Republicans" should oppose him as well. Here are five of them.
He is weak and inconsistent on the Second Amendment.
Although many people may not remember this, Donald Trump has considered making a foray into politics before, and back in the year 2000, he wrote a book on the subject entitled The America We Deserve. In this book he made the following statement about our right to keep and bear arms: "I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun." In 2000, when we wrote those words, the infamous federal "assault weapons ban" of 1994 was still in effect. Most modern sporting rifles and all magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds were illegal to produce for the civilian market. It is this now-expired law to which Trump gave his stamp of approval. More recently, in the aftermath of the Orlando shooting in June of 2016, Trump tweeted that he would be meeting with the NRA "about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns." Trump's disregard for the "shall not be infringed" mandate of the Second Amendment is equaled only be his dismissal of the Fourth Amendment and due process. If protecting our gun rights is one of your top concerns, you should not be supporting Donald Trump.
He supports government control of healthcare.
While Donald Trump regularly capitalizes on the broad dissatisfaction with Obamacare, he has yet to offer any concrete alternative or to clarify what he would instead. He has promised to replace it "with something terrific" and "something so much better" and "something great," so I guess we're in for... something on the healthcare front if Trump gets elected, but what exactly? Though he usually avoids specifics, he has made some statements that can clue us in as to his true intentions. He accused other Republicans (including Ted Cruz) of being willing to say "Let 'em die" when confronted with someone dying outside a hospital. Back around 1999, when Trump officially left the GOP because he believed that "the Republicans are just too crazy right," he also endorsed "the single-payer plan" for healthcare, declaring that he was "a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one." Yes, Donald, we can tell. His penchant for supporting government control of healthcare has not gone away. Just last year, he told CBS' Scott Pelley that "Everybody's got to be covered [by health insurance] ... I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now." Pressed for details, he suggested that he "would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people" and that "the government's gonna pay for it." If you desire true free market healthcare reform, please don't look to Donald Trump. He is sure to disappoint.
He supports higher taxes.
Despite his status as the Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump struck a very different tone in a 2004 interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer. "In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat. ... It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans." Back in 2000 Trump called for "a one-time 14.25 percent tax on individuals and trusts with a net worth over $10 million," claiming that such a move "would raise $5.7 trillion in new revenue" which could be used to "pay off the national debt." His view of economic matters has not shifted all that much based on his more recent statements. Despite publishing a proposal advocating tax cuts across the board, he then backtracked and told CNBC that he was "not necessarily a huge fan of" his own proposal and suggesting that it was just a place "to start negotiating." Negotiating for what, though? In an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Trump said that taxes for the rich "will go up a little bit, and they may go up." When confronted with the fact that his published tax proposal called for a decrease, Trump clarified that "in my plan they're going down, but by the time it's negotiated they'll go up." What happened to Trump the great negotiator? He's already conceding that he won't even control the direction the tax rates will move, let alone the degree to which they'll change. Trump is a huge fan of tariffs (which are a federal tax on imports) and in 2011 he advocated a 25 percent tariff on Chinese goods. In recent months, he's suggested a 45 percent across-the-board tariff on manufactured imports from China, and a 35 percent tariff on goods made in Mexico. He also criticized a trade agreement with South Korea which reduced tariffs. A detailed analysis of Trump's tariff proposals determined that they would result in a 4.6 percent decrease in the size of the US economy, 7 million jobs lost, and a 60 percent increase in the federal budget deficit. Sounds "great," doesn't it? Speaking of increased unemployment, Trump has said he would consider increasing the federal minimum wage, telling Wolf Blitzer in May of 2016, "I'm looking at that, I'm very different from most Republicans." He also said that while he hasn't "decided in terms of numbers," he believes that "people have to get more." Do you believe that we are "Taxed Enough Already"? If you do, a Trump Presidency is certainly not going to improve matters in this regard. Higher taxes and massive tariffs will leave us all poorer and much worse off than we are today.
He doesn't support individual liberty.
Donald Trump is an authoritarian. It's his way or the highway. He strongly supports eminent domain (the taking of private property for public—and sometimes even private—developments), going so far as to call the process "a wonderful thing." This is cronyism at its worst, forcing people to give up their private property just because it's in the way of somebody else's plans. How does Trump feel about personal responsibility? He wants to see alcohol manufacturers sued and held liable for a lack of personal responsibility on the part of individuals, saying "You have terrible auto accidents because of alcohol, thousands killed. Taxing alcohol companies isn't enough; I'd like to see them forced to take responsibility." What about our rights in the criminal justice system? We already know Trump supports "not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns" despite the loss of due process and Fourth Amendment rights inherent even in the existence of such lists, but that's not all. He has suggested that there should be "a zero-tolerance policy toward anyone who is getting in the way of the safer America we deserve"—whatever that means—and despite the fact that the US has a higher incarceration rate than any other developed nation on earth, he claims that "America doesn't use prisons much more than any other civilized nation." He ignores his critics on this issue and blithely says that "The next time you hear someone saying there are too many people in prison, ask them how many thugs they're willing to relocate to their neighborhood." Trump has promised to "get rid of" individuals who belong to gangs "so fast your head will spin." Considering the well-known sluggishness of the criminal justice system, it may well be that he has extrajudicial methods in mind to accomplish his goals. While Trump claims to support the legalization of medical marijuana, he has said that Colorado's legalization of recreational marijuana was "bad" and said that he "feels strongly about that." We must presume that he prefers the system present in most other states where those who possess a banned plant end up in the prisons he doesn't believe are too full. Trump has called the heroic whistleblower Edward Snowden a "terrible threat" and a "terrible traitor" and has intimated that he should be executed for exposing the NSA's illegal wiretapping practices. What about freedom of speech? In addition to threatening to employ the country's "most brilliant minds" in an ill-defined scheme aimed at "closing" parts of the internet, Trump has also said he will seek to "open up" the country's libel laws so that he can more easily sue the press for annoying him. The chilling effect that politicians and prospective politicians routinely suing media outlets would have is apparently of no concern to Trump. Is our freedom of religion safe at least? Not in the least. In addition to proposing travel bans based solely on religion, Trump has advocated forcibly closing mosques, claiming that there is "absolutely no choice" in the matter. Trump has also called for a "database" of Muslim refugees and has refused to rule out expanding the database to include all Muslims within the country. The First Amendment stands squarely in the way of these proposals, of course, but Trump really doesn't have much respect for the Constitutional limits on the federal government and its executive. If protecting individual liberty and upholding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are important to you, there is simply no justification for supporting Donald Trump's efforts to obtain the Presidency.
He doesn't support state control of federal land.
While this issue may have less relevance to those living east of the Rocky Mountains, to those in the West, it's a significant concern. The federal government's habitual mismanagement of Western lands has caused untold destruction, plus there are the billions (if not trillions) of dollars in potential revenue that remain either untapped or destroyed. This intolerable state of affairs has left several western states with more land controlled by the feds than by the state and all private individuals and entities combined. Where does Donald Trump stand on this issue? Unlike several of the other Republican presidential candidates who came out in favor of transferring at least some federal lands to the states, Trump was flatly against it, saying, "I don't like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you don't know what the state is going to do. I mean, are they going to sell if they get into a little bit of trouble? And I don't think it's something that should be sold." Do you support the transfer of federal lands to the states? Donald Trump sure doesn't, so why would you support him?
Summary
It's an unfortunate reality that Trump is weak and inconsistent on the Second Amendment; he supports government control of healthcare, higher taxes, and cronyism; he is absolutely abysmal on individual rights, and he wants to keep western lands under federal control. I haven't even mentioned that he thinks his sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, would be a "phenomenal" Supreme Court justice despite the fact that she has ruled in favor of partial-birth abortions, hardly a position embraced by most conservatives. I don't know if these reasons are enough to convince my conservative and Tea Party friends to look elsewhere for a Presidential candidate, but if they are, I would suggest taking a look at the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. I would certainly never suggest voting for Hillary Clinton, but voting for Gary Johnson—or even refusing to vote altogether—are far more principled choices than voting for Donald Trump. I certainly won't be voting for or otherwise supporting Donald Trump. Will you?

"body": "\nI am a libertarian, so I have several reasons for opposing Donald Trump's candidacy which may not be applicable to most conservatives, but there are also some very compelling reasons why consistent conservatives and \"Tea Party Republicans\" should oppose him as well. Here are five of them.\n
He is weak and inconsistent on the Second Amendment.
\nAlthough many people may not remember this, Donald Trump has considered making a foray into politics before, and back in the year 2000, he wrote a book on the subject entitled The America We Deserve. In this book he made the following statement about our right to keep and bear arms: \"I generally oppose gun control, but I support the ban on assault weapons and I also support a slightly longer waiting period to purchase a gun.\"\n\nIn 2000, when we wrote those words, the infamous federal \"assault weapons ban\" of 1994 was still in effect. Most modern sporting rifles and all magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds were illegal to produce for the civilian market. It is this now-expired law to which Trump gave his stamp of approval. More recently, in the aftermath of the Orlando shooting in June of 2016, Trump tweeted that he would be meeting with the NRA \"about not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns.\"\n\nTrump's disregard for the \"shall not be infringed\" mandate of the Second Amendment is equaled only be his dismissal of the Fourth Amendment and due process. If protecting our gun rights is one of your top concerns, you should not be supporting Donald Trump.\n
He supports government control of healthcare.
\nWhile Donald Trump regularly capitalizes on the broad dissatisfaction with Obamacare, he has yet to offer any concrete alternative or to clarify what he would instead. He has promised to replace it \"with something terrific\" and \"something so much better\" and \"something great,\" so I guess we're in for... something on the healthcare front if Trump gets elected, but what exactly? Though he usually avoids specifics, he has made some statements that can clue us in as to his true intentions. He accused other Republicans (including Ted Cruz) of being willing to say \"Let 'em die\" when confronted with someone dying outside a hospital.\n\nBack around 1999, when Trump officially left the GOP because he believed that \"the Republicans are just too crazy right,\" he also endorsed \"the single-payer plan\" for healthcare, declaring that he was \"a conservative on most issues but a liberal on this one.\" Yes, Donald, we can tell.\n\nHis penchant for supporting government control of healthcare has not gone away. Just last year, he told CBS' Scott Pelley that \"Everybody's got to be covered [by health insurance] ... I am going to take care of everybody. I don't care if it costs me votes or not. Everybody's going to be taken care of much better than they're taken care of now.\" Pressed for details, he suggested that he \"would make a deal with existing hospitals to take care of people\" and that \"the government's gonna pay for it.\"\n\nIf you desire true free market healthcare reform, please don't look to Donald Trump. He is sure to disappoint.\n
He supports higher taxes.
\nDespite his status as the Republican nominee for President, Donald Trump struck a very different tone in a 2004 interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer. \"In many cases, I probably identify more as Democrat. ... It just seems that the economy does better under the Democrats than the Republicans.\" Back in 2000 Trump called for \"a one-time 14.25 percent tax on individuals and trusts with a net worth over $10 million,\" claiming that such a move \"would raise $5.7 trillion in new revenue\" which could be used to \"pay off the national debt.\"\n\nHis view of economic matters has not shifted all that much based on his more recent statements. Despite publishing a proposal advocating tax cuts across the board, he then backtracked and told CNBC that he was \"not necessarily a huge fan of\" his own proposal and suggesting that it was just a place \"to start negotiating.\" Negotiating for what, though?\n\nIn an interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos, Trump said that taxes for the rich \"will go up a little bit, and they may go up.\" When confronted with the fact that his published tax proposal called for a decrease, Trump clarified that \"in my plan they're going down, but by the time it's negotiated they'll go up.\" What happened to Trump the great negotiator? He's already conceding that he won't even control the direction the tax rates will move, let alone the degree to which they'll change.\n\nTrump is a huge fan of tariffs (which are a federal tax on imports) and in 2011 he advocated a 25 percent tariff on Chinese goods. Sounds \"great,\" doesn't it?\n\nSpeaking of increased unemployment, Trump has said he would consider increasing the federal minimum wage, telling Wolf Blitzer in May of 2016, \"I'm looking at that, I'm very different from most Republicans.\" He also said that while he hasn't \"decided in terms of numbers,\" he believes that \"people have to get more.\"\n\nDo you believe that we are \"Taxed Enough Already\"? If you do, a Trump Presidency is certainly not going to improve matters in this regard. Higher taxes and massive tariffs will leave us all poorer and much worse off than we are today.\n
He doesn't support individual liberty.
\nDonald Trump is an authoritarian. It's his way or the highway. He strongly supports eminent domain (the taking of private property for public—and sometimes even private—developments), going so far as to call the process \"a wonderful thing.\" This is cronyism at its worst, forcing people to give up their private property just because it's in the way of somebody else's plans.\n\nHow does Trump feel about personal responsibility? He wants to see alcohol manufacturers sued and held liable for a lack of personal responsibility on the part of individuals, saying \"You have terrible auto accidents because of alcohol, thousands killed. Taxing alcohol companies isn't enough; I'd like to see them forced to take responsibility.\"\n\nWhat about our rights in the criminal justice system? We already know Trump supports \"not allowing people on the terrorist watch list, or the no fly list, to buy guns\" despite the loss of due process and Fourth Amendment rights inherent even in the existence of such lists, but that's not all.\n\nHe has suggested that there should be \"a zero-tolerance policy toward anyone who is getting in the way of the safer America we deserve\"—whatever that means—and despite the fact that the US has a higher incarceration rate than any other developed nation on earth, he claims that \"America doesn't use prisons much more than any other civilized nation.\" He ignores his critics on this issue and blithely says that \"The next time you hear someone saying there are too many people in prison, ask them how many thugs they're willing to relocate to their neighborhood.\"\n\nTrump has promised to \"get rid of\" individuals who belong to gangs \"so fast your head will spin.\" Considering the well-known sluggishness of the criminal justice system, it may well be that he has extrajudicial methods in mind to accomplish his goals.\n\nWhile Trump claims to support the legalization of medical marijuana, he has said that Colorado's legalization of recreational marijuana was \"bad\" and said that he \"feels strongly about that.\" We must presume that he prefers the system present in most other states where those who possess a banned plant end up in the prisons he doesn't believe are too full.\n\nTrump has called the heroic whistleblower Edward Snowden a \"terrible threat\" and a \"terrible traitor\" and has intimated that he should be executed for exposing the NSA's illegal wiretapping practices.\n\nWhat about freedom of speech? In addition to threatening to employ the country's \"most brilliant minds\" in an ill-defined scheme aimed at \"closing\" parts of the internet, Trump has also said he will seek to \"open up\" the country's libel laws so that he can more easily sue the press for annoying him. The chilling effect that politicians and prospective politicians routinely suing media outlets would have is apparently of no concern to Trump.\n\nIs our freedom of religion safe at least? Not in the least. In addition to proposing travel bans based solely on religion, Trump has advocated forcibly closing mosques, claiming that there is \"absolutely no choice\" in the matter. Trump has also called for a \"database\" of Muslim refugees and has refused to rule out expanding the database to include all Muslims within the country. The First Amendment stands squarely in the way of these proposals, of course, but Trump really doesn't have much respect for the Constitutional limits on the federal government and its executive.\n\nIf protecting individual liberty and upholding the Constitution and the Bill of Rights are important to you, there is simply no justification for supporting Donald Trump's efforts to obtain the Presidency.\n
He doesn't support state control of federal land.
\nWhile this issue may have less relevance to those living east of the Rocky Mountains, to those in the West, it's a significant concern. Unlike several of the other Republican presidential candidates who came out in favor of transferring at least some federal lands to the states, Trump was flatly against it, saying, \"I don't like the idea because I want to keep the lands great, and you don't know what the state is going to do. I mean, are they going to sell if they get into a little bit of trouble? And I don't think it's something that should be sold.\"\n\nDo you support the transfer of federal lands to the states? Donald Trump sure doesn't, so why would you support him?\n
Summary
\nIt's an unfortunate reality that Trump is weak and inconsistent on the Second Amendment; he supports government control of healthcare, higher taxes, and cronyism; he is absolutely abysmal on individual rights, and he wants to keep western lands under federal control. I haven't even mentioned that he thinks his sister, Maryanne Trump Barry, would be a \"phenomenal\" Supreme Court justice despite the fact that she has ruled in favor of partial-birth abortions, hardly a position embraced by most conservatives.\n\nI don't know if these reasons are enough to convince my conservative and Tea Party friends to look elsewhere for a Presidential candidate, but if they are, I would suggest taking a look at the Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. I would certainly never suggest voting for Hillary Clinton, but voting for Gary Johnson—or even refusing to vote altogether—are far more principled choices than voting for Donald Trump.\n\nI certainly won't be voting for or otherwise supporting Donald Trump. Will you?",

bodyWhen I read your title I knew you didn't have children. Lol! I'm not here to poke fun at you, but I will say before I had children I swore I wouldn't do things the way other parents did. You find out quickly that that's a load of crap, and either you're going to have well behaved children, or the children that other parents don't want their kids around. Like I said I'm not criticizing you, and there are some valid points in your blog, but until you become a parent it's truly hard to know what you will do. I gave you an upvote the blog is well written. It just shows a lack of experience. If I asked my 10 year old to write about driving a car it would probably have a similar read.

body1,208[i] people were killed by the cops in America in 2015. The number was 1,111[ii] in 2014. With 624[iii] killed so far in 2016, we're on track for 1,168 by the end of the year. bodyI truly believe that one day mankind will look back on the way children were treated in 2016 with the same incredulity and revulsion as they do how slaves were treated in 1816. The inhuman treatment of children combined with the habitual denial of even their most basic human rights is an inerasable stain upon humanity that only full confession and time can begin to heal. For those who do not understand this subject, I present to you six ways in which children are treated like—and in some cases even worse than—slaves.

Children are controlled through superstition and lies. From their earliest days, most children face an onslaught of lies and misinformation designed to control them and modify their behavior. From threats of eternal torment masquerading as religion to the mystical "naughty or nice" list maintained by Santa Claus to the permanent installation of a tattletale "elf on the shelf," children's self-ownership and sovereignty is threatened by the specter of mythological beings whose sole duty is to spy on and punish children who do not obsequiously submit to the iron will of their parents.

Much like these unfortunate children, slaves were also manipulated through tales of gods who would monitor them and punish those who dared to run away or attempt to regain their freedom. The desire to own or control another human being—be it a child or a slave—is perhaps the greatest evil of all.

Children are denied access to information and truth. Just like slaves were denied the skill of reading for fear that it might give them ideas their masters preferred them not to possess, so children are routinely denied information because they are "too young to understand it." If they are indeed too young to comprehend a truth's significance, what harm could there be in hearing that truth? Even when they directly ask about things they observe, children are often given ridiculous misinformation such as the claim that human birth is caused by a stork's delivery of a baby.

Children are indoctrinated into statism. This issue is related to points 1 and 2, but goes even further. In addition to the untruths told children as a method of control and the truths denied to them as a means of keeping them helpless and uninformed, there is the "education" system which indoctrinates them nearly non-stop from their earliest days until they finally gain their (largely theoretical) independence at the age of 18.

In school, children are taught that authority is real and that states (and their parents) possess a legitimate right to initiate violence against those who do not obey. They are taught the fallacy of a "social contract" as if it were truth and regaled with the notion of "duty" to country and to society. Their self-ownership is beaten down until they believe that they are a part of an inescapable collective rather than a sovereign individual with no positive obligations to anyone.

Children are physically abused. This fact is perhaps the most obvious and direct comparison to slavery in that it is no longer tolerated in any other context. Not even convicted serial killers are subject to the physical battery that many children regularly undergo. Children face physical abuse for the slightest transgression. Even a look deemed "disrespectful" is sufficient in the eyes of many parents to earn a most savage beating. Free speech? Forget about it! Mere words which offend the sensibilities of a parent are often considered an adequate excuse to use physical implements—spoons, hairbrushes, belts, tree branches, whips, etc.—as methods of coercion and torture. Not since the institution of slavery has any other class of persons been routinely subject to regular "legal" assaults as punishment even for thoughts and words.

Children are denied basic freedom. There are many examples of this problem, but one of the most obvious is the freedom to travel. If a child leaves home without permission, the act is known as "running away." It's an interesting term because we really don't use it to describe most adults who travel. It's a term applied to slaves, prisoners, pets, zoo animals, and others who are recognized as being in captivity. While most parents would recoil at the notion that their children are captives, the very fact that their efforts to leave would be classified as "running away" defies their parents' protestations.

Another example is forcing children to eat food they do not like. Even slaves and prisoners are generally free to eat only part of their meal or to skip an undesirable meal and wait for the next one, but children frequently face far more coercion. Failure to eat one part of a meal can lead to the withholding of the rest of it. A skipped meal may be preserved and re-presented for future consumption until the child's spirit is broken.

A third example is free speech which we touched upon under point 4. The free speech rights of the average prisoner garner more respect than those of children. It is often considered normal and even expected that parents will limit a child's speech both in manner and in content. Certain words and topics are frequently forbidden. Children who keep diaries intended to preserve secret thoughts for their own consideration are routinely spied upon and in many cases face severe penalties solely for their thoughts.

The final example in this non-exhaustive list is freedom of association. Children are often denied access to their friends, neighbors, and even family members. Older children are denied the right to date and to form romantic attachments. Again we see an example where the restrictions placed on children often exceed those placed on prisoners and even slaves.

Children are overworked and denied compensation. The most basic freedom is the right to say no. Employees have the right to quit. Dissatisfied partners have the right to divorce. Churchgoers have the right to stay home. What rights do children possess? While perhaps not as common as some of the other problems delineated in this list, the overworking of children remains a serious violation of their rights. It is quite common indeed for children to be ordered to do chores. Unlike an employee (but very much like a slave), the children are not given the option to refuse or to seek terms which are agreeable to them. Failure to comply may result in physical abuse, the confiscation of property, incarceration in a room or chair, or some other method of coercion.

While some parents may provide their children with an allowance, this cannot be considered compensation for labor unless the child has the right to forgo the allowance in order to avoid the labor. Once again, most children are denied the freedom to say no to the "offer" they quite literally cannot refuse.

Do children have a "duty" to "contribute" to their household? Variations of this argument are frequently presented as justification for forced labor, but ignore the underlying coercion. Did the child choose to be a part of the household? Are the free to go? (See point 5.) Rather than persuading their child to help or inducing them through an offer which will garner voluntary acceptance, many parents extract labor through threats and fear. In addition to the inherent rights violation which is occurring, such a scenario also serves as another method of indoctrination into statism (See point 3.)

What has happened to mankind? What did we miss? We have rejected slavery and have begun the journey toward treating prisoners more humanely. We long ago discarded the notion that men should be free to beat their wives. Some folks even believe that animals ought to have "rights." What about the children? Children are human beings with the same natural rights as anyone else, yet humanity frequently turns a blind eye to the atrocities committed against them. I for one will not tolerate it and I certainly will not perpetuate the cycle. If and when I have children, I will not lie to them, deny them the truth, or indoctrinate them. I will not abuse them, force them to act, or prevent them from doing what they wish to do (unless an imminent danger requires clarification.) In short, I will treat my children the way I treat all other people—as sovereign individuals who have the same natural rights which I possess. I hope more parents will choose peaceful parenting as well. The world is full of violence and coercion, and children really shouldn't have to face these evils in their own homes.
