bodyI had a teacher in school told me I was *one of those people* *Who couldn’t do math.* When you’re a little person You’re taught to listen to And believe big people, So I did. And he was right. All through my secondary schooling I couldn’t do math properly. When I got to college I had learned that adults *Weren’t always right,* *And I could do math.* I was *acceptably good* at math. Now on my way to be a teacher I need to be a teacher Who nobody will says in their mind: **“You’re just one of those people who can’t teach kids.”**

body
![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSsyu8MCbchFRTR1FuacRSSdweEG8b5fQr6Fp12QZRKWs/image.png)
“Beep…Beep…”. I immediately switched off my alarm clock and woke up from my bed. It was a Monday morning and I took a glance on my calendar. I knew something exciting was happening on that week, and I was right. It was my third and will be my last School Based Experience (SBE) as a trainee teacher. During the whole week of SBE, my day begins as early as 5:00 in the morning as I have to wake up, get dressed and of course I need to have my breakfast since I am a breakfast person. Then, I make my way to St. Patrick Primary School. As I leave my home at about 6 a.m., the sky is quite dark and the area around my neighbourhood is dimly illuminated by the glow of the street lamps. Despite this, however, the day has already started for most people and there are many things to see on my journey to school. I began my journey by looking forward to the familiar faces around me. The first person I usually met was the security guard at the front of school gate whom I always exchange greetings with in the morning. There were also several other faces that I looked out for every morning and these include that of other students or office workers. All these people were new to me, at least at that moment. However, I knew I will remember these faces in a matter on just one day as I believe I have this speciality where I can remember people easily even if I just met them for 10 minutes for the rest of my life. Nevertheless, these people and I seem to share a common bond and to some extent, I have grown strangely dependent on them. If I did not see them on a particular morning, for instance, I was plagued by panic attacks (since I am a trainee teacher) as I knew that I had probably missed anything at the school – could be any kinds of impromptu meeting, events or even… relief classes. The journey to the school was another thing that I look forward to. My dad had to drive me to school every morning and although this journey can be potentially boring, there were certain things that can make them rather interesting. Along the way to the school was a long, grey road with some trees and houses on my left and right view. It was not the best view anyone could get especially for a Monday morning kind of vibe. However, this road really reminded me of my school days where I usually would take the same road and separate to another one of the T-junction near the traffic light. On my way to school, I mostly saw students, complete in their school uniform which I once wore them too. It reminisced me a lot to my old school days – I got a brief flashback everyday for the whole SBE week on my goals, my dreams, my struggles, the tears and laughter I had before in that particular school uniform with Holy Trinity Secondary School Badge on them. Tears got a little overwhelmed in my eyes but I got to hold it in. I have to! I have to be happy for who I have become today. A teacher. There was this funny thing on becoming a teacher to me. I have always torn apart between being a lecturer or to be a doctor. My sisters are in the medical field, so I thought to myself “I should not be any less than them. My parents really count on me.” And that statement was true indeed. I was considered as the smarty-pants in my family and so the expectation was high up there. With that, I try to put away my dream to be a lecturer and worked really hard on my Science and Mathematics in school without realising how much I have achieved with English and it is true when they say “Say good words because words are prayers.” And that was what my family always said about me: “Oh, she will definitely be a teacher. An English teacher would be perfect for her! She is good!”. I just smiled and worked on my own things. I know what I ever wanted was to be a lecturer, and probably be working on my PhD by the time I reach around 30 years old. Not a teacher. Now looking back at where I am, at this very moment, typing this whole essay, my eyes kind of teary again (my sensitive side cannot handle sentimental memories). On the last day of my SBE, there was this little voice in my heart that told me… I really do love this career although there were times where I felt like giving up and hating on my career choice. With my family, friends and most importantly, that one senior whom I met two years ago that I will always look forward to in my life, I will work my best to achieve my dream to be a lecturer and a PhD holder one day. People say, we reach high from the bottom and this is exactly what I am doing. I will reach up from below.
*-The End-*

titleShort Story: The New Girl
body
https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmW24jVdaDLhJmcP21Le2nzJ1onc8kEusJD8fEUuh87G9N/image.png
The new girl stood awkwardly at the front of the classroom while the teacher introduced her. She was a 155cm tall, bespectacled, looking rather anxious. The quiet looking girl just transferred from another school uptown of Tawau. I remembered her name, Bella. She was indeed as beautiful as her name. She introduced herself and she walked to the back of the classroom, then she sat down at a desk in the corner; The desk where nobody wants to sit as it makes anyone who sits there, feel isolated. However, she liked it there… she did not say it but I can tell she felt better there – away from all the students in the classroom. Glad to have any form of distraction during the boring Mathematics lesson, my classmates and I spent our time sneaking curious glances in Bella’s direction. There were already forty of us in the class and the desk were neatly arranged in pairs. This meant that Bella had to sit alone, at a desk that was oddly placed in one corner of the classroom. The whole class waited patiently until recess time before we all crowded around Bella’s desk and bombarded her with all sorts of questions. We were all so inquisitive on what school she was from and why she had transferred to the other side of town. To our surprise, Bella ignored us completely and stared steadfastly down at her desk. She refused strongly to utter even a word and since none of us wanted to waste our precious break time, we all left her alone. We decided among ourselves that she was either very shy or very weird. Almost a week passed and my class began to think that we were half right in our assessment of Bella’s character. She was indeed slightly different and had still not spoken to any one of us. Even the teachers were growing impatient with her as she never did her homework and always mumbled inaudible responses to their questions. During recess, she frequently walked around the entire school building talking aloud to her own self. Although she never spoke to the people in her own class, she would often run after students from other classes, begging to join them and be their friend. The whole school began to think that there was something quite not right with her and many students tried to avoid her whenever she walked past. Things got worse in next few weeks when our class was suddenly summoned to the principal’s office for a discussion. Our form teacher was also there and to our immense surprise, she began the session by asking us if we had been harassing Bella. Apparently, Bella had not been handing in her homework and when she was asked why, she replied “My classmates throw my books away.”. She had also accused two of our classmates of stealing her money and belongings. Upon hearing this, the whole class was extremely shocked. We all knew that we had done nothing to Bella. In fact, they had even tried to be nice to her and it was she who had ignored them. Luckily, both our teacher and the principal believed us and agreed to talk to Bella and her parents. For the next three days, Bella’s seat remained noticeable empty. After all of her accusations, none of us missed her and some were even glad she was absent. We were all rather surprised - for the countless times, however, when at the end of the week, our teacher announced that Bella was no longer going to be in our school. She had been having problems in all her previous schools as well. Her parents had decided that she should seek counselling and professional help before she joined another school.
*The End*

titleShort Story: The New Girl
body
![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmbNQqBh67GHAmAE1PtU2SvziR24mJEPsnCPYPiMvUczDf/image.png)

I am Nur Syahirah, a 21 year-old teacher trainee from an Institute of Teacher Education located somewhere in Sabah, which if you might not know where Sabah is.. it is the Borneo side of Malaysia :) For this semester, I am assign to create and write a blog for one of my course, Creative Writing. I quiet enjoy this course anyway since I used to blog when I was in my early teen years but then I stopped for some reason that I myself not really sure of. Nonetheless, I'm still happy to start blogging again for this course ! I'm afraid I run out of words to lengthen this introduction so, to keep it, perhaps more entertaining to read, I am an Aries who is an advocate for personal space and spending countless hours with people that I genuinely really love. Oh, and I love food as well, local - franchise - western : You name it, I'm attracted to them unless I tell you otherwise :) Please keep up with the amount of so-called masterpiece that I will be posting here from my coursework. Thank you for reading ! I really appreciate it <3

body![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTvkLNGpToiBnUCN2RkLDtgbLrAa7rHQQ6kx1tDj7g6Qj/image.png) Hello there readers, viewers, whatever you call yourself as (waving) ! I really appreciate it <3

titleWriting Prompt : Liar, Liar
body
![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeyUzRFhpCRsUiurgzEWyn9fSw7szdcDyDGrh5q4fbVVh/image.png)
When it comes to certain situation that elicit the deepest fear in yourself, what will you do? They say that 89% of people tells a lie within the first three minutes of meeting a stranger in order to impress or to get away from the conversation itself. But the thing is, I myself do not know if I can trust these “They”. Growing up, I have always been quiet in the independent side of life where I would spend most of time alone at home right after school hours with my brother, Matthew. I guess I was deeply affected by the divorce of my parents at such a young age and I was contemplating whether or not I was digesting the whole concept well enough of my parents were not together anymore and that me and my brother had to go through moving from one home to another every holiday season. You see, the thing is, I knew what happened and I was very sure, I knew it well. The reason for their divorce and why they were not in love anymore, or how the children themselves was not enough of a reason for them to stay. But they refused to keep the transparency between me and my brother, Matthew. I saw them fighting in the living room, almost every day, and the next minute they told me they were just fine although I can see in their eyes that they were not at all. They told me lies that my ten-year-old self could not help but believe. The thing about lie was that, it was never good. No matter how safe you tried to keep it, it will eventually escape. I hated the fact that my parents lied to me and Matthew. They gave me false hope and reassurances. From there, I grew up from a weak and fake foundation that somehow will never let me go further from the life I was living at that moment. Right after my parent’s divorced, I hardly spoke to anyone and rejected the idea of meeting people because meeting people means trusting them. So, I went living alone for quiet some time until I was 24 years old and had a family of my own. To my surprise, I went to a divorce myself and could not help but did the same thing to my three children. I lied. I knew it was so messed up. The thing I used to hate the most growing up, and a decade later, I was doing it to my own children. I got stuck with wanting to let them know the reality of life and trying to keep them “safe” as much as possible. However, I decided to just tell them. Face to face. To my surprise, my children were very accepting and we had a mutual understanding about the subject, despite them being so young at that time. I believe the eldest of mine was only 12. From there, I learn that I cannot nurture nor heal in the same environment that hurts me, lie is not the only way out in many cases, and for sure that is something that I want my children to grow up and believe in. **Liar, Liar : Make up a poem or story of complete lies about yourself or someone else.**

body![](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTvkLNGpToiBnUCN2RkLDtgbLrAa7rHQQ6kx1tDj7g6Qj/image.png) Hello there readers, viewers, whatever you call yourself as (waving) ! I quiet enjoy this course anyway since I used to blog when I was in my early teen years but then I stopped for some reason that I myself don't really sure of.
