What’s your next move?” conducted by PwC examined 600 executives in 15 countries on their development of blockchain and opinions about its potential. Blockchain leader at PwC, Steve Davies, said:</p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">“Businesses tell us that they don’t want to be left behind by blockchain, even if at this early stage of its development, concerns on trust and regulation remain. Blockchain by its very definition should engender trust. But in reality, companies confront trust issues at nearly every turn.”</p>\r\n\n</blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the study, four in five executives worldwide, which represent 84 percent of respondents, have blockchain initiatives in progress, 25 percent of which have fully live blockchain implementations or launched pilot projects.</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">46 percent of respondents identified the financial sector as the leader in terms of blockchain development in the next three to five years. Respondents also identified sectors with emerging potential for the same period of time as <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/energy\" data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/tags/energy/amp\">energy</a> and utilities (14 percent), healthcare (14 percent), and industrial manufacturing (12 percent).</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/usa\" data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/tags/usa/amp\">U.S.</a> and <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/china\" data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/tags/china/amp\">China</a> were identified by respondents as leading markets for blockchain development, polling at 29 percent and 18 percent respectively. As the <a href=\"https://huobiglobal.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000101822-Huobi-Group-Launches-the-Huobi-Chain-Project\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announcement</a> then stated, the project aims to “provide both individuals and organizations with a reliable financial protocol for value exchange, fundraising, securitization and more.”</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Founded in 2013, Huobi is the <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/rankings/exchanges/\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fourth largest</a> crypto exchange in the world in terms of trade volume. At press time, Huobi has a 24 hour trade volume of around <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/exchanges/volume/24-hour/\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$582 million</a>.</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Facebook has made quiet inroads into the blockchain space. In May, the company <a data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/news/facebook-forms-exploratory-blockchain-team-led-by-coinbase-board-member/amp\" href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/facebook-forms-exploratory-blockchain-team-led-by-coinbase-board-member\">formed</a> a “small group to explore how to best leverage blockchain across Facebook, starting from scratch,” as the head of Facebook’s messaging app Messenger, David Marcus shared in a post on his personal page.</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Later that month, news media outlet Cheddar <a data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/news/facebook-exploring-making-its-own-cryptocurrency-media-report/amp\" href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/facebook-exploring-making-its-own-cryptocurrency-media-report\">reported</a> that Facebook was “exploring” the creation of its own <a data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/tags/cryptocurrencies/amp\" href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/cryptocurrencies\">cryptocurrency</a> to launch an in-app virtual coin. The information, though, was unconfirmed and came from an anonymous source “familiar with Facebook’s plans.”</p>\r\n\r\n<p>In June, Facebook <a data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/news/facebook-reverses-ban-on-cryptocurrency-ads-maintains-ban-on-icos/amp\" href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/facebook-reverses-ban-on-cryptocurrency-ads-maintains-ban-on-icos\">reversed</a> its crypto advertising ban, which had been in effect since January of this year. The new policy requires advertisers of cryptocurrency products and services to submit an application to allow Facebook to assess their eligibility. Upon completion of the deal, the buyer gains automatic inclusion on a stock exchange.</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Huobi reportedly acquired 73.73 percent of Pantronics Holdings Ltd., which makes the crypto exchange the actual controller of the power-related electrical and electronic products manufacturer. Pantronics <a href=\"http://www.pantronicshk.com/Uploads/20180822/E%20PANTRONICS.PDF\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">halted</a> trading its shares on the Main Board of the <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/tags/hong-kong\" data-amp=\"https://cointelegraph-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/cointelegraph.com/tags/hong-kong/amp\">Hong Kong</a> Stock Exchange (HKEx) on August, 22, 2018 due to a “possible offer to be made under Rule 26 of the Hong Kong Codes on Takeovers and Mergers.”</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">When asked whether the exchange intends to conduct a backdoor listing, Huobi CEO Li Lin reportedly said that “it is just a rumor.” Li stated the exchange business is currently not fully compliant on a global scale, so a backdoor listing would be very difficult to operate. Li added that he believes the “traditional financial market will embrace the blockchain economy in the future.”</p>\r\n\r\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On July 30, Caixin media <a href=\"https://www.caixinglobal.com/2018-07-30/hong-kong-cracks-down-on-backdoor-listings-101309909.html\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reported</a> that the HKEx was preparing a revision of rules to take stern measures towards backdoor listings within its efforts to clean up the market and improve the quality of listed companies. While the proposed measures are reportedly not aimed at blocking backdoor listings, they intend to ensure that companies do not skirt rules and undermine investor confidence. David Graham, HKEx’s chief regulatory officer and head of listing commented:</p>\r\n\r\n<blockquote>\r\n<p>“We essentially allow a backdoor listing. But what [we want] to ensure is that when this happens, the quality of the assets and the ultimate combined company to be listed on our exchange have been through an appropriate due diligence and vetting process.”</p>\r\n\n</blockquote>\r\n\r\n<p>Houbi Token is currently trading at $2.35 according to <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/huobi-token/\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Coinmarketcap</a>, having gained almost 8 percent over 24 hour period, while some media <a href=\"http://liancaijing.com/alerts/184737.html\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\" target=\"_blank\">attribute</a> the token’s price surge to the recent acquisition. However, “not even more than half a billion” in new USDT has been able to make any impact on the price of EOS and NEO this month, Bloomberg stated, citing that the altcoins have dropped 37 and 44 percent this month respectively.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Bitcoin has also seen a drop of around <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/bitcoin-price-index\">19 percent</a> on the month, with Bloomberg noting that August’s Tether issuance is a “move that in the past would have often coincided with a rally in Bitcoin.”</p>\r\n\r\n<p>In July 2018, Bloomberg had <a href=\"https://www.bloomberg.com/graphics/2018-tether-kraken-trades/\" rel=\"nofollow,noopener\">posted</a> another article on Tether’s price manipulation, focusing on the Kraken crypto exchange and implying that daily tradings amounts on Kraken should be influencing the price of USDT.
