| title | Design Luck |
| body | To not leave luck to chance means to take destiny into your own hands. How do some people are luckier than others? There must be something they do differently than everyone else. And after all, what is luck? It is an attitude but it is also circumstance enabling serendipity. The following factors lead to the creation of luck. 1) Purpose. 2) Action 3) Circumstance 4) Scrutiny 5) focus 6) self-belief. I will take each point and show how it plays a role in designing luck. Purpose It makes action meaningful. It helps one believe he is making effort to advance in the right direction. With purpose there is no hesitation and action becomes fulfilling giving a tangible sense of fulfillment. Action It puts everything in motion, it touches people, it propagates it brings feedback, and help establish improvement cycles. It a way to keep in touch with the world. Circumstance Created by the right actions it gets more and more established as one begins to grow his influence with the right action. The environment has a mental equivalent, and circumstances always follow the right action and movement. The right encounters collaborations, opportunities, and so on. Scrutiny Means critical reasoning on the subject matter. By now, if you have taken care of everything else this should naturally evolve. Focus Necessary for building up momentum and moving fast. The right focus simply helps the mind iterate and generates better work. Self-Belief One must find ways to develop self-belief. It is never simple but it's something we all have and build gradually, be it with victories be it with desire or discipline. |

| title | COLD WATER |
| body | For a couple of days, I began to go every day and swim in the cold sea, with no insulation, just speedos. It's a thrill, I feel it as soon as I see the sea. The moment I start my run I already look forward to feeling the cold water. Did the water get any warmer? in the past week? no. I just got used to it. Before I get in the water my bpm is usually around 180, I always run to the beach. I take a moment to catch my breath and walk into the water. A sensation of burning envelops my feet. I advance slowly until I immerse myself entirely. I feel the cold mostly on the lower part of my legs, on my feet, and my arms. Today a wave hit me and that made the immersion easier. I feel an adrenaline rush mixed with joy and a boost of energy. An overwhelming sensation that I am addicted to. It makes me feel alive! I wake up! It gives me a visceral feeling of my primate nature, of the biology of my body. Beyond the almost excruciating pain, beyond the overwhelming sensations of cold, and the rush of adrenaline. My body knows how to cope. 10 minutes in a great calm settles in. I stay 10 more minutes and continue to swim. I don't feel the cold anyomore, but I feel my muscles slowing down. I lose some dexterity and strength. This means that I begin to freeze a little bit, so I go out. Tomorrow I'll try to do half-hour. |

| body | The heartbeat of the universe beats in ourselves. My world is made of objects, large and small, hard and soft, of all colors and shapes. Beyond the physical appearance of objects, there is the story of their making. This world is bound to time and space. Things form, they stem out of other things they evolve, degrade, transform. Everything is transforming. Just as a drop of ink dissipates in water, in the same way we are part and parcel of our universe expanding into the greater unknown. As beings caught in this dynamic we want to know, almost compulsively about all material things. Being made of it but animated by spirit a duality emerges. We live in two worlds, the world of the visible and the world of the invisible. To take one too much for granted means to refute the other and vice versa. |

| body | I am sometimes more conscious than other times. Focus and conscious attention to my thoughts make the difference. There are thoughts that I know, they tend to form in a familiar way. They are not original thoughts. Original thought is enabled by critical thinking. Experience is always different. In order to see the different nuances of reality, I must begin to observe in a calm and focused manner. I think what we all want is essentially knowing who we are, or what we are. It is not easy to find out because nobody is complete. We are all embarked on this quest for becoming, and what does it have to do with habits? The becoming happens through a process of doing and undoing. You must learn, progress, and then forget everything and start over again. This is it. |

The becoming happens through a process of doing and undoing. You must learn, progress, and then forget everything and start over again. This is it.",

| body | If one wants to abide in the thought free state a struggle is inevitable. One must find one's way trough before regaining one's original primal state. When we turn the mind inwards God manifests as the inner consciousness. No one succeeds without effort. Those who succeed owe their success to perseverance. Of course we loosely talk of realisation for want of a better term. How to real-ise or make real that which itself is real? Therefore, realisation is for everyone; realisation makes no difference between the aspirants. If realisation is not eternal it is not worth having. Meditation helps concentration of the mind, then the mind is free from thoughts and is in the meditated form. The I thought is said, the sum total of all thoughts. The source of the I thought has to be inquired into. Self realisation is cessation of all thoughts and of all mental activity. Thoughts are like bubbles upon the surface of the sea. A self-realised man remains happy without being affected by false appearances; whereas the ignorant man is miserable. Moderation in food; moderation in sleep and moderation in speech; - The self is always realised. It is not necessary to seek to realise what is already and always realised. Stillness means being free from thoughts and yet aware. At one stage you will laugh at yourself for trying to discover the self which is so self-evident. The self cannot be found in books. You have to find it for yourself within yourself. If you go on working with the light available you will find your master as he himself will be seeking you. Tobacco is a poison. It is better to do without it. It is good that you have given up smoking. Men are enslaved by tobacco and cannot give it up. So long as false identification persists doubts will persist, questions will arise, there will be no end of them. You can never find mind trough the mind. Go beyond it and find it non-existent. When the mind is left without anything to cling to it becomes still. The self is pure knowledge pure delight where there is no duality. The self is already realised, therefore the effort to realise results only in your realizing your present mistake - that you have not realized your self; therefore is no fresh realization. The false I is the obstruction which has to be removed, in order that the true I may cease to be hidden. The enlightened one that has become one with the unchanging supreme consciousness like a river that has become one with the ocean takes birth no more in a body. There is no reaching the self. If self were to be reached it would mean that the self is not here and now and that is yet to be obtained. Do not yield to the great bliss but pass on to the next stage which is great calm. The calm is higher than ecstasy. The body consciousness is the wrong I. Give it up. Seek the source of your ego, abide there for ever in the source and find your self in bliss. Accomplishments which appear and disappear being the effect of maya cannot be real. The non-self cannot see the self. The self has no sight or hearing, it lies beyond these all alone as pure consciousness. He alone who has realized the self in the heart has realised the truth. Having transcended the dualities he is never perplexed. How is it possible for the mind o know the lord who imparts its light to the mind and shines within the mind except by turning the mind inward and fixing it on the Lord? Renunciation is always within the mind not in going to forests or solitary places or giving up one's duties. The main thing is to see that the mind does not turn outward but inward. You cannot mix the two states, the dreaming and the waking state. When by compassionate divine grace the mind becomes clear the nature of the world will be known to be not the illusory forms but only the reality. The state we call realisation is simply being oneself, not knowing anything or becoming anything. Similarly till you attain the state of realisation and thus wake out of this illusory phenomenal world you must do social service by relieving suffering wherever you see it. Good thoughts keep off bad thoughts, they must themselves disappear before the state of realisation. The final obstacle in meditation is ecstasy, you find great bliss and happiness and want to stay in that ecstasy. That pure consciousness which is the reality and which shines without a break as I AM when the mind becomes calm is the supreme bliss. The power that created the you created the world as well. If God created the world it is his business to look after it not yours. The illuminated one who is happy in the peace of the self without thought of the past and the future and is like a mere witness of the present, has his knots of bondage cut. When we see our self there is no world and when we loose sight of the self we get ourselves bound in the world. You have been so accustomed to objectify that you have lost the knowledge of your self simply because the self cannot be objectified. Supernatural powers are all illusory appearances created by the power of maya (Maya Shakti) The I thought is like a spirit which although not palpable rises up simultaneously with the body rises up with it and disappears with it. The mind of one meditating on a single object becomes one-pointed. And one-pointedness of mind leads to abidance in the self. Absence of thoughts does not mean blank. There must be one to know the blank. Realisation is to get rid of the delusion that you have not realised. A man should surrender the personal selfishness which binds him to this world. Giving up the false self is the true renunciation. Renunciation does not imply apparent divesting of costumes, family ties home etc but renunciation of desires, affection and attachements. The trouble lies with your desire to objectify the self in the same way you objectify your eyes when you place a mirror before them. You need not aspire for or get any new state. Get rid of your present thoughts that is all. What is eternal it is not recognised as such, owing to ignorance. Ignorance is the obstruction. There is no seeing, seeing is only being. If one has realised one is that which alone is and which alone has always been. Mind is consciousness which has limitations. We are originally unlimited and perfect, later on we take on limitations am become the mind. The self is like a pearl to find it you must dive deep down int the silence deeper and ever deeper until it is reached. Once the current of awareness of the self is set afoot it becomes everlasting and continues by intensification. The degree of freedom from unwanted thoughts and the degree of concentration on a single thought are the measure to gauge spiritual progress. Your own self realisation is the biggest service you can render the world. The I thought is the heart of the self. |

| title | What is life ? |
| body | Life is ongoing communication and transformation of enlivened matter. When I begin to observe and understand I discover complexities and variation at every scale. It takes courage to begin the quest of understanding what is life? The short answer is God the long answer is a life-long wonder and passion for life itself. Seeking equilibrium in a world that is transforming time and time again. Nothing remains the same, we could say, it's the sun but not even that. The human population has created an entire environment that catered to its needs and desires. Technology augments our capacities. We are no longer bound to a specific location career or gender stigma. Humans enjoy much greater freedom today. I want to raise above the current condition of my life, seeking to pop the bubble of my ignorance. Fears that I want to transcend, beliefs that I want to change. Worries and duties are what keep my bond from a limited perspective. It is about perspective. People who move gain perspective. The other space perspective would make every human being on earth understand and know, viscerally that we're a planetary species, that our resources are limited, that we live within a larger ecosystem of complexity that only now we begin to grasp. There is no earth anywhere else, there is no possibility of expansion beyond earth. Let's look at ways that enable a larger perspective: - Understanding scale. - The age of the earth and vs the average human lifespan. - The scale of the universe vs the scale of earth - Looking at life itself I see how a tiny living cell invisible to the human eye can be so complex. Inside a cell, the molecular machinery operating within itself is stunning. Intelligence permeates all matter it enlivens dead rock, waters, and even the air. It's a constant exchange of nutrients and information between societies of living organisms. Beyond the fight for survival, we discover God in connection and intersubjectivity. |

| body | I am not one of them. I do have my peculiarities but I'm not being torn apart by my tormented soul. I don't dismiss people who live their best most intense creative moments on the verge of mental breakdown, I would help if I knew how. Some things that have worked for me: - I think about the work that I'm doing, not about me. - I get enthusiastic about my work - I work non-stop (around the clock) if after 12h of work I'm still energized I keep going. I'm onto something. - If things don't come out the way I envision, I don't hurt myself but I break things, it doesn't have to be something expensive. (I did smash however one MacBook pro and several phones) Oops. - Stay away from medication. 5HTP + L-Tyrosine + L-carnitine do wonders. - Do loads of sport (I once did 125km's of cycling going round and round for 5h on a 3km circuit without stopping and without drinking water) The experience was divine. - If you feel you're losing your bearings do ask for help, I mean, I don't know about you but once I was not feeling very well, I called my girlfriend and she really turned me upside down. I was on the verge so I broke my laptop and then I calmed down. However, since my laptop was the tool I was using to produce my work and was no longer working I had to revert to pen and paper. Oh well... - And last but not least, Know thyself |

| body | I wanted to go to that place where new ideas come from. I opened the black door and I entered the infinity corridor. At the other end, there was a bright light so bright that it made my body appear as it was translucent. I started running faster and faster, there was no shadow chasing me. I felt pulled into the light my feet thrusting forward. I felt naked and free and empty and then I reached out and threw myself into the light. I was home, once again with my people listening to their song. Looking me in the eyes, with infinite love he said: Nothing is easier, just be. |

| title | A simple Exercise |
| body | An experience of the divine is immediately available to every human being who turns his attention on the breath. The human mind has a compulsive tendency to focus on objects. It is constantly at work evaluating scenarios, pondering, calculating fearing, or nurturing desires. The human mind can also be immersed in imagination or day-dreaming which sometimes appears to be effortless. The breath As long as we are alive we breathe. Breathing can be conscious or unconscious, it can be long, filling up the lungs slowly breathing in and slowly breathing out or it can be short and fast; breathing in quickly and exhaling quickly. It stops only when we die. Attention I like to think of attention as a flashlight for the mind's eye. When you enter a dark place with a lighter you have the power to choose where to place the light in order to see. It is the same thing with Attention, we choose which areas of the mind we want to bring into focus. The only difference is that when we place the attention on something, that something begins to iterate. It undergoes a process of iteration. Attention on the breath When attention is willingly kept on the breath, the mind begins to dismantle its predefined patterns of behavior, it's established axioms, and emotion-reinforced pathways. At first, it will be an elusive and daunting task maintaining the focus on each breath but, with patience and perseverance, the benefits will become evident. The experience of freedom Being physically free means to be able to go wherever you want. Someone in Jail is depraved of his physical freedom. But, freedom can be also for the mind. The freedom to choose what you think whenever you want and also being able to allow the mind to roam free. To iterate whenever it wants or to rejoice in a suspended state where it does nothing. GOD The power to choose and the power to exist, to be involved and alive. |

| body | I feel like the pandemic made many of us become aware of how much human proximity and touch is vital for our wellbeing. We took touch for granted all our lives, common gestures we do all the time, naturally without a second thought become prohibited almost overnight. A handshake, a pat on the shoulder, a hug, a hello, or a goodbye kiss. Oh God,… how I missed clubbing; being immersed in a mass of strangers sweating, dancing bouncing, losing myself to the music along with everybody else. These experiences have a quasi therapeutic effect on me. I need clubbing to be human, it readjusts me somehow it helps me be more cool, more relaxed around others. I found the experiment with the rubber hand revelatory, and it reminded me of Dr. Ramachandram who treated patients diagnosed with the phantom-limb syndrome. He used a similar contraption where he would ask the patient to put their residual limb in a box that had a mirror on a side facing the remaining(opposite) leg or hand. This would give relevance to the sensations they felt in the missing hand because they would look at it and would see it there (in the mirror). This experiment and the rubber hand one outlines the fact that we have social adaptive biological features - we are social animals. Humans have evolved specialized neurons called mirror neurons that activate in social contexts. They are particularly useful for empathy, social learning, language learning, and acquiring cultural norms and customs. I wonder if being deprived of touch for a prolonged period makes us more of an individualistic society? There still must be an ‘other’ to develop a strong sense of identity, without others, how would we know who are? Thank you for this essay, I found it super interesting. Good luck with your research and keep in touch, let’s pray for the reopening of pubs and clubs and pubs in 2021 🙏 |
