| body | So the man himself published a book about his life. Yes, in his list of professions (singer, airline pilot, radio show host, DJ, historian, television presenter, fencer, writer and songwriter), he has found a little spare time to write an autobiography. Now, is it worth your 20 Dollars? ## Short Answer. Of course it is!! We are talking about Bruce Dickinson, the man with the 4 octave vocal tone range, one of the big voices of Classic Heavy Metal, and such a charismatic frontman. Slap your money on the counter of your nearest bookstore or get it on-line with a few clicks. Come on! stop reading this, get out and buy it. Wait no! read on please :) ## Long Answer To be honest, I'm not exactly the most neutral, unbiased person to write a review about Maiden's frontman. I’ll buy about anything with his name on. I'm a pretty big Maiden nerd. Just a quick introduction on myself, I’m in my late thirties, and unlike many naturally born metal-heads, I was introduced to Iron Maiden when I was about 25 years old. Yes, I liked a few songs, but I wasn't really into this music at the time. It wasn't until some co-workers at work, some really die-hard Maiden fans, kept on putting Maiden songs in the business trips we made when I got really struck by Eddies fever. After getting my hands on complete discography of Iron Maiden, I just let it play over and over again. (repeat and random mode on). Since then I went to 3 Maiden concerts. I wish that number was a little bigger, but that's what we have here in the south of Spain, lots of sunshine, but few big concerts. My work more or less forces me to dress like a 'normal' person (for whatever that means), but every once in a while, on some casual Friday I put on a Maiden shirt to the office. By the way, I designed some Maiden shirts myself (check them out [here](https://inthekeyofa.com/collections/t-shirts) ), so I could wear more Maiden shirts at the office. They don't come with a colourful, full chest-sized Eddies, but are a bit subtler. Except for the one with Dickinson in Spandex on the front and run to the hills in times new roman 150, leave that one for Fridays Anyways, back to the subject. ## The Man How on earth does this man find the time to write an over 400 page counting autobiography? It took me already an hour to write this blogpost and I just finished introducing myself. You have to hand it to him, he has a résumé that scares of even the most multi-talented persons out there. Here's a sum-up: * TV Presenter ("Flying Heavy Metal" on the Discovery Channel among others) * Radio host ("Bruce Dickinson's Friday Rock Show", on the BBC) * Fencer on a semi-professional level. * Founder of Dualist Fencing equipment. (Wasn't that a Powerslave song?) * Beer maker (Created "The Trooper “a 4.8% bottled ale, and 3 other beers) * Songwriter * Writer * Keynote Speaker * Commercial Pilot * Marketing Director at Astraeus (now-defunct UK charter airline.) * Co-founder of Cardiff Aviation (an aircraft maintenance company). * etc. And what was that other thing.. Ah yes! Being the frontman of Iron Maiden for over 3 decades (with some interruptions, yes). In case you're unaware of them, Iron Maiden is considered to be one of the pioneers of the New wave of British Heavy Metal (Man I really do not know why I hate that term), with over 15 studio albums and over a 100 million copies sold. ## The Book. This being only my second blog post, and first book review ever, it took quite an effort to write this. How am I going to review a book without giving away any spoilers?, but give enough information for people considering buying this book. Other than people may think, this isn´t the first book Bruce wrote. It´s the third. He wrote a novel named The Adventures of Lord Iffy Boatrace”, during an Iron Maiden tour in the late eighties and even a sequel to to that book named The Missionary Position. Regarding the writing style, I have to say the book reads very easily. It took me 2 sleepless nights to get through It’s very loosely written and has the typical touch of Bruce Dickinson. He has a way of getting things trough. In an article with the Rolling Stone, he replied to a question about a statement he once made like this: "So is it arrogant? Uh, yeah. You're the lead singer of Iron Maiden, and you're going to be arrogant every now and again, because it kind of goes with the territory, yeah. Mick Jagger, is he arrogant? Yeah, probably – it's Mick Jagger, for fuck's sake. Do I make a distinction between me walking down the street and me onstage with Iron Maiden? Yeah”", Phrases like this can be found throughout the book. As a downside I would mention that he doesn´t go too much into his personal life, just some slight touches. Regarding this he commented: “I think if you throw marriages and things like that in, you automatically have to throw in divorces and all the rest of it. It's part of your life, but not part of your life that's any relevance to other people. I think you open a big can of worms there, which I don't see as any point in doing. The point of the book is to tell some great stories.” And he´s right, his personal life is his own, but if you buy an autobiography about a public personality, you kind of expect some insights in their personal lives right? Some referrals or explanations that could help to understand some of his mayor life changing decisions he made throughout his life. Personally I think this would make the book somewhat more personal and complete. As you may well know, he suffered from a tongue cancer last year. This is well discussed in the book, having a complete (I think it’s even the largest) chapter dedicated to his fight against the in the book. ## So should you buy this book? Well if you are an Iron Maiden, or Bruce Dickinson fan, I guess you should. If you are like me and have seen about any Maiden or Dickson clip on YouTube, you're probably are not going to find any mayor reveals or earth-shaking new facts. The book does however give some nice little insights and is an overall nice read. My final conclusion is therefor, taking into account that you found this article and reached the end of it so you are probably a fan in some way, you should get it. I’ll probably give it a 550 out of 666 stars rating :) PD. Shameless self-promoting ahead: Check out my Instagram account, I post (metal/rock) based content there on a daily basis, I also have plans to make some more Maiden related t-shirts in the near future. I have some more metal related articles in the pipeline as well. So if you liked this blogpost, please share it and be sure to check back every once in a while, or leave your email in the subscription box on the frontpage. |

| body | (I wrote this text for a blogpost on [inthekeyofa](https://inthekeyofa.com/blogs/news), but i thought i would share it here as well) Dear fellow Rockers and Metalheads, Our bread is vanishing, lets be honest. Every once in a while, in my favourite bar, someone comes along and the subject of music surges, often because one of my heroes passed away. Lately it surges allot. Chester Bennington, Malcom Young, Ronnie James Dio, Chris Cornell, Chuck Berry, Geoff Nichols, Prince, Bowie, Lemmy, Scott Weiland, Phil Taylor, the list seems endless. Whenever I hear a friend asking: >"Did you heard..?", I surely hope he's refering to some old lady that choked in her burger somewhere. Im always wrong (Nothing against old ladies eating burgers). I´m still getting used to the idea that some of the godfathers of the genre are gone. Some were unique, different, or just plain geniuses. These are some are tough days for heavy metal. Black Sabbath gave their farewell concert in Birmingham a few months. Black Sabbath!, gone for good! And what about Lemmy? I´ll tell you something, Sabbath and Mötorhead are probably the two most influenced groups in heavy metal. Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Iron Maiden, thank their existence to them, and would make an even balder statement; the whole death/power/speed/trash metal genres wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the four from Birminham. I´ll bet that even todays bands are still heavily influenced. When i hear some short dark riff, it´s all coming from Tommy Iomi. Maybe i´m getting just old, and it´s getting hard for me to realise that the glorious days of heavy metal and rock and roll are long gone. It had something special to take a disc out of the package, read the booklet..hmm. I used to think 4 times before spending 30 of my hard earned euros on a new record. I could do that once every 2 months at best. Now I hear people say that paying 9,99EUR (About 12 dollars) for a Spotify account is too much money. For just 12 bucks you have access to more then 30 million songs!, limitless!, on the go! Perhaps 12 dollars is expensive after all, when you can listen to most of it free anyways. (youtube). The way people listen to music has changed. Not only the format (physical to digitalI), but in the actual way they listen to the songs. My generation used to listen to complete albums. We just inserted the disc and let it play. Nowadays people tend to skip faster, from one song to another, from one artist to another. On some discs I really loved song 3 and 5. Then, after some time (weeks) i suddenly loved nº4. It was just the-song-in-between, that had time time to convince me, only because i was to lazy to get up and push the next button. Now everything is at hand with online streaming services, just a click away. Listeners have changed. (Can we still call them listeners when they really stop listening?) Perhaps some masterpiece of a the next big Nordic metalband, is just "skipped" away. We used to really listen and analize music. Some songs are like coffee*, the first sip is bitter, not very convincing, but later you cannot live without it. Maybe just because you can have 30 million songs at your disposal makes you less openminded about listening to something that, at first, doesn't get you from the first few seconds. Please understand me correct, I do think there is good music out there, there are some really high quality groups making fantastic songs. It just really hard to stand out. Internet has opened an enormous international market. Where before bands only got listened to locally, or nationally if they were lucky, now they can be heard worldwide. But they also have worldwide competition. Photo: Ralph Arvesen</sub What is the next supergroup? The next Metallica, the next Iron Maiden? These groups are still touring yes, Metallica being especially popular, and seem to still have some gas to give. But they are no youngsters. Where are the new guys? Will I someday teach my children or grandchildren heavy-metal music, just like my father thought me to love the Blues? Will metal go the same route as the Blues? Blues was the music to listen too decades to go, it´s definitely not dead. It cannot be, as it is the origin of most of the genres. But how many blues songs do you hear on popular radios?, probably the same amount as true heavy metal music. To quote Zoltán Báthory, guitarist for Five Finger Death Punch, from an article last year on observer.com: >“Every genre has a cycle. Metal and hard rock has gone through various phases, and I think we’re going to experience those phases again,” “In the ’80s,” Zoltán continues, “hard rock and heavy metal was in the spotlight and was probably the most important genre at the time. It was a voice of rebellion, the voice of a new young generation going up against the establishment. It became a passionate movement that eventually had so many followers that it became its own micro economy. All of a sudden some young, longhaired, tattooed guys could become extremely popular and sell millions of records.” I couldn't agree more. Heavy Metal and Rock (as Blues), were underground movements. Gatherings of angry people, rebellious people. Just listen to the rage in the voice of Paul Di'Anno in "Running Free". Has the world suddenly become a perfect place? Is everybody living in perfect harmony, happy flowers growing everywhere?. I don´t think so, the world is different, but there are some problems that keep existing. Racism is still here, unemployment never left, wars are raging. Where are the angry people?, or is nobody angry anymore? I did hear raging in rap-music in the early 2000`s, but where is it now? I´m not saying that rock and metal are doomed. There are some great groups like Candlemass (Those Riffs from "Solitude", are very familiar sounding for Sabbath fans), Ghost, Avenged Sevenfold etc, but are they really putting a statement out there?, are they pushing the boundaries. Are they rebellious? Hope is on the cyclic nature of things. Metal rose from the underground in the late 70's and became mainstream in the '80s. Glamrock came and then rap took over in the 90's and 2000`s. Now its all pop, indie poprock, or even reggaeton (!). The underground still exists, there are things going on there unknown to the great public. Metal will return, metal will rise once again. \m/ Keep rockin' [inthekeyofa](https://inthekeyofa.com) * = I was going to use cigarettes as the metaphor for songs addiction, but that would be really educational, wouldn´t it? I guess coffee will do fine as well. p.d.: You probably think i´m near 60. Nope i´m under 40. Just a tiny little bit under 40, but under 40 I am :) |

| body | What a nice article! I just started with crypto's and I bought some altcoins wich are cheaper. Part because there is something pshycolical in spending 100$ and getting 0,000000something BTC, instead of 400XRP. ( I know this does not make *any* sense at all, but i guess this is a common thing among traders), the other main reason is I really don´t like buying anything that is peaking. I feel allot more comfortable buying assets that are oversold or way below their price. (Based on historical data). I mean I *do* think BTC will get to unthinkable levels in the near future, and i probably kill myself for not buying BTC @ 5000 USD within the next year or so, but I prefer buying in dips. I´d love to get into Steam for example, or buy more Bitshares. If BTC would fall for a few weeks, showing resistance levels and strong price action, perhaps i´d enter. I could be missing the boat yes, but on the other hand I find it hard to believe that BTC rockets all the way up to 100k withouth big reversals (like in 2015). BTCUSD monthly chart By the way, jazminmillion, i love the graphics. |

| body | Hi all, **Newby alert! :)** This is my **first** post on Steemit. I´ve been *"leeching"* for some while now, but I would now also like to contribute to this amazing community. **Let me first quickly introduce myself.** I´m just a normal guy in his late 30´s. Born in the Netherlands and living in the south of Spain for over 12 years now. I have a normal office job and my interest are mainly (metal) music and new technologies. I´ve been looking into trading and investing for quite some while now and was introduced to it by a friend. He was giving some introduction clases on day trading and as this was (and partly still is) a mystical and unknown area for me, I decided to take the clases and learn something along the way. **Forex papertrading** That was about two years ago. Since then i´ve been reading and papertrading in Forex. The course was oriented on day trading de SP500, but I switched to forex, both for its high volatility as it being a 24h market which fitted way better in my daily schedule. 4 hour charts, allowed me check the charts before going to work, at breakfast and lunch break as well as the bar (candlestick) from the afternoon and evening. I would only mis a bar at 3 or 4 in the morning, depending on wether it was summer or wintertime. Initially I had bad results as I did not have any good strategy or I did have one, but was not disciplined enough to keep applying the rules. Although I kept hopping from one strategy to another, I did learn everything about moving averages, MACDs, Fibonacci, price action Bollinger bands etc. **Books** After reading some more books, and especially some of Alexander Elder, I came to the conclusion that strategy is not as important as I thought it was. The money management, risk control, and trading psychology weights allot more then a strategy. With a good money management and a very primitive strategy like a coin flip could already turn out profitable. (Try it!, you can use the random function of excel to generator a list of prices). Book recommendations: With the strategy I had come up with, basically based on engulfing patterns on weekly charts, indicating trade direction, and price action on 4h charts, I started to make some virtual profit (virtual, still paper trading) Although i´ve had some good results with my strategy (about 18% in 6-7 months), i haven´t made the step to live trading yet. Mainly because with the strategy i have been using i need a capìtal that i do not have availble yet. I backtested almost 30 pairs for the last 5 years, and had very good results. I needed to raise capital to start trading **Cryptocurrencies** After not paper trading for a while, my attention was drawn to the enormous gains of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This was in June of this year, right when all cryptos where peaking out. The fear of missing out (The famous FOMO term), let me to buying into NEM, XRP and Digibyte. Although it was not more then 80 dollars or so, it was a stupid decision. I just entered in a uptrend and was hoping this would continue. Alexander Elder called this the theory of a greater fool. (As you asume a greater fool then you would enter and keep buying, drifting the price up). I entered without any risk strategy or any strategy whatsoever. I just entered for being greedy. **First serious buy!** Now, a few months later, I am a little more serious about entering a trade or not. First I only look at coins that are around for a few years, no ICO madness for me. Then I look at coins that are interesting, and have a good website, blog and team to really make it. Last of all I look at coins that came way back from where they peaked. This is because I´m kind of a technical analysis kind of guy, and I like to have some historial date so I can look for support and resistance levels. I would note trade bitcoin that fast, as it is continuously at new heights, at new and unknown levels. A couple of weeks ago I bought some Bitshares. It cought my eye when it was about 0,17ct and marked it as a buy if it would hover around de 6ct area. I finally bought around 6500 BTS at 0.58ct/each. **Money management??** Now here’s the thing; this, in my eyes this is more longterm, more “investing” as to what I was used to doing in Forex, where I would enter and exit a trade in a maximum of 3-4 days (day trading), sometimes I only needed hours before my stoploss or take profit targets hit. The thing that keeps me worrying, is that I had a entrance strategy, but I do not have an exit strategy. What will happen if the price falls below 0,2ct, would I sell, or keep holding?. Or what if price suddenly exploded, and pass historic maximums of 40ct, 50ct, or even 60ct?, would I sell? I would probably sell half of my shares when price action shows a big red bar on an uptrend, but I don’t have any “golden” exit rules like I had with forex trading. Should I just HODL (what a funny term, in a o so famous [thread](https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=375643.0) by the way) or should I have a set price level for exiting? Another thing that bothers me, is that I do not have any money management of any kind. How do you guys do his? I just spent some 400-ish dollars on a coin that looked good. Whatever happened to the 2% and 6% rules Elder taught me and I applied o so religiously to my forex trading. *(Elder teaches that only risking 2% of your available capital, would keep you save from the sharks, avoiding large losses, wether the 6% rules forbids to put on any trade when you lost more then 6% that particular month, keeping you save from the “piranhas” nibbling your capital to the bare bone.)* Everything better then the horrifying Pirhanaconda, or the Sharktopus, the Hybrid Horror from the deep! I understand that if I had a trading account of 10k or more, I could easily apply these rules but what if my available capital is only 500 dollars or less. It would mean I could only buy 10 dollars of bitshares. It would take ages to increase my capital. The only thing I kept from my good practises of forex trading is keeping a good log, and having a precise entrance strategy. Risk control, money management and exit strategies went all strait out of the window! I was wondering how the rest deals with these issues. I would love to read your experiences on this. Well thank you fellow "steamians" for spending a few minutes on reading my story. I hope sharing opinions on this can shine some light on this topics and perhaps some point of my brief story would raise someones interest regarding money management or crypto trading. hasta siempre, |
