L'inglese si è affermato solo recentemente, da meno di 50 anni, sia per l'espansione (una sorta di colonialismo commerciale) degli USA che, soprattutto, per la diffusione della tecnologia e l'arrivo dei pc in tutte le case, che utilizzano questo idioma come linguaggio macchina favorito.\nComplimenti per il metodo analitico rigoroso e razionale con cui sei arrivato alle tue conclusioni.",

      "body": "<h1>Cara lettrice, caro lettore,</h1>\nhai mai considerato d‘imparare un‘altra lingua mentre non sapevi quale sarà la migliore? Il mondo diventa sempre più globalizzato e quindi potrebbe essere utile imparare un‘altra lingua. Ma poiché il nostro tempo è limitato, dobbiamo investirlo attentamente e sapientemente. Nel caso dell’apprendimento delle lingue, lo significa scegliere la lingua giusta da imparare.\n\nCi sono molte persone che hanno un interesse generale a imparare un‘altra lingua. Dato che suppongo solo un interesse generale, vado per esaminare questa questione solo da un punto di vista molto generale. Una scommessa sicura sarebbe di consequenza una buana lingua internazionale e la serve dunque tante funzioni diverse.\n\nQuindi, non considererò le lingue antiche, come il latino, il greco antico, l‘ebraico biblico o il sanscrito, e nemmeno le lingue dei segni. Inoltre, non considererò le lingue dell‘amante e neanche le lingue artificiali come ad esempio l'esperanto o la lingua klingon. Questi avvertimenti non sono argumenti contro le lingue menzionate. Per conseguenza, se avessi un'inclinazione per una certa lingua, certamente, l‘impareresti. Se vuoi fare per esempio affari in Cina, impari il cinese mandarino; se vuoi abitare nell‘America latina, impari lo spagnolo o il portoghese e così via.\n\nQuesto testo è una traduzione non letterale di un testo che ho scritto in inglese e che ho già pubblicato un paio di mesi fa. Ma l‘inglese corrisponde perfettamente ai miei quattro criteri: l‘inglese viene parlato da un gran numero di parlanti sia di madrelingua sia come lingua straniera in quasi tutto il mondo.\n\nLa lingua italiana non è la mia madrelingua. Quindi, è possibile che io abbia fatto degli errori e che non io abbia usato le migliori parole. I criteri principali</h1>\nPenso che ci siano essenzialmente quattro criteri principali che definiscono una lingua qualsiasi come una lingua internazionale o una lingua franca.\n\n\n<b>(1)</b>   Una certa lingua internazionale deve aver un gran numero di parlanti madrelingua.\n <b>(2)</b>   Deve avere anche un gran numero di parlanti che parlano questa lingua come lingua seconda (L2) o straniera cioè persone che insegnano, imparono e usano questa lingua al di fuori dei paesi d'origine. Ovviamente, quanto migliore è il livello della conoscenza, tanto meglio è.\n<b>(3)</b>   Questa lingua deve essere parlata in molti paesi in tutto il mondo.\n<b>(4)</b>   Inoltre, deve essere parlata idealmente non solo in molti paesi ma anche in più che un continente cioè deve essere molto diffusa mondialmente.\n<h1>II. L‘applicazione dei criteri</h1>\n<h2>(1) Le lingue secondo il primo criterio (il numero di parlanti)</h2>\nQuesto è il primo criterio principale: la lingua deve aver un numero grande di parlanti madrelingua. Ci sono almeno 6000 lingue naturli nel mondo come dicono alcuni linguisti. Per vedere quale lingue corrispondono al primo criterio, dobbiamo classificarle ai numeri di parlanti e prendiamo le prime 25 lingue che hanno più di 50 milioni parlanti. Il risultato è questa lista ordinata alfabeticamente. Il secondo criterio è: deve aver anche un numero grande dei parlanti che la parlano come lingua seconda o straniera. Vale a dire che ci sono persone che l‘insegnano, l‘imparano e l‘usano fuori del paese della sua origine. E naturalmente, più alto è il livello della conoscenza, meglio è. Non ci sono sfortunatamente molti dati sulle lingue che vengono imparate globalmente. Lo spagnolo, il francese e in minor grado il tedesco sono globalmente le lingue più studiate. Nell'est, la gente impara o imparavo il russo. In tal caso è più facile buttare fuori le lingue che vengono parlate solo in un paese o in pochi paesi che controllare il resto delle lingue. Quelle lingue sono evidentemente il giapponese e il coreano.\n<h2>(4) Le lingue secondo il quarto criterio principale (i continenti)</h2>\nLo spagnolo, il francese e il russo – persino la Russia da sola è situata nei due continenti – vengono parlate nei più continenti che solo uno. Però dobbiamo cacciare via il tedesco e il cinese mandarino. Il tedesco viene parlato solo nell‘Europa centrale e il cinese mandarino viene parlato soltanto nella Repubblica Popolare Cinese (Cina), nella Repubblica di Cina (Taiwan) ed a Singapore.\n<h1>III. Conclusione</h1>\nSe vuoi imparare in generale una nuova lingua straniera, lo spagnolo, il francese e in minor grado il russo, perché sta perdendo l‘influsso, sono opzioni molto buone.\n<h1>Grazie per averlo letto!       "body": "I am taking a Mandarin class at a local university. We are all adult students and several do business in China. They are all American citizens and all speak English but one is Hispanic, one is from Pakistan and another is from Ethiopia in Africa.  China is attracting business people from around the world and many are choosing to learn Mandarin to improve their ability to negotiate and build relationships with suppliers and customers. For now, English is the de facto world language but if you can speak English, Spanish and Mandarin you can communicate with 80% of the world population.",

And moreover, it has growth potential.\nBut the international language is by far English. \nAs a L2 Mandarin is predominantly learnt in Asia. Yes, in the U.S. it‘s also learnt. But to what level of proficiency and what percentage?\nBe that as it may, I can‘t see for the moment that, for instance, a Japanese and a Spaniard will speak Mandarin when they meet each other, let's say, in South Africa. However, that‘s what it takes for a language to be considered as an international language, at least for me.\nLet me know what you think about it!",

      "body": "I have to disagree with any criterion that excludes Mandarin simply because it is not spoken on multiple continents. China is a relative newcomer as a global economic and technological power but it surpasses the French, Russian and Spanish speaking countries in most essential metrics.  More importantly, Mandarin is quickly gaining in importance as China assumes an increasing central role in the world economy.",
