| body | Classrooms are breeding Hysteria and Fear-Mongering anymore. It is sad... When the election was going on for Trump, my daughter (in 2nd grade at the time) came home asking: "If Trump wins, why will he send 'X' boy away?". The little boy in her class who is of Mexican descent. No idea if he is legal or not (could be either... Columbus, OH is a sanctuary city after all). We assured her that this wasn't going to happen and that the teacher was trying to instill fear into her and her classmates. She understood this... and began to take what he said with a grain-of-salt. This is why I taught my daughter sarcasm and looking for fear-mongering early. Turns out the long term substitute teacher she had, fresh out of college hipster male snowflake. Needless to say, my wife and I were really glad when her teacher was back from Maternity leave. When I mentioned this to her, I could see the fury in her eyes. She is a military spouse whose husband deploys SF guys into some pretty nasty areas overseas. I was assured that she would take it up with the principal (who my wife and I know personally) for me. My daughter, this year, did tell me she has never seen that substitute again. |

I figure that in this current world we live in, and the amount of hate out there getting worse, hopefully a small bit of my blood might keep someone alive, possibly a child, a hero, or just a regular person. And maybe, just maybe, this gift will go to someone who can help to pass on my idea that Hate is not worth it. Grow up, figure out how to work with each other, and be a human being willing to be civil to your neighbors, no matter how many ways you might differ. |

| title | RKBA: How far do we need to go into this? |
| body | Well... let's take a look at this, and see what it means? The first definition in question is: Regulate The second definition in question is: Militia So, when you look at these (2) definitions, you are saying that the 2nd amendment means: "To control or direct by rule, principal or law the whole body of able-bodied male citizens declared by law as being subject to call for military service." I, personally, stick to the second belief in the Militia, because it was believed by many (but not all of the founders) that the law of arms was put into place to defend against a potentially tyrannical government. Does this seem like it would be likely to happen? No... but if you had said to the founding fathers that you would be able to get printed media sent to a small box in your hands in seconds across the air, they might have been laughed at as well... so anything can happen given enough time and technology. Most of the recent federal gun laws are found in the following acts: 1. National Firearms Act ("NFA") (1934): Taxes the manufacture and transfer of, and mandates the registration of Title II weapons such as machine guns, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, heavy weapons, explosive ordnance, silencers, and disguised or improvised firearms. 2. Federal Firearms Act of 1938 ("FFA"): Requires that gun manufacturers, importers, and persons in the business of selling firearms have a Federal Firearms License (FFL). Prohibits the transfer of firearms to certain classes of persons, such as convicted felons. 3. Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (1968): Prohibited interstate trade in handguns, increased the minimum age to 21 for buying handguns. 4. Gun Control Act of 1968 ("GCA"): Focuses primarily on regulating interstate commerce in firearms by generally prohibiting interstate firearms transfers except among licensed manufacturers, dealers and importers. 5. Firearm Owners Protection Act ("FOPA") (1986): Revised and partially repealed the Gun Control Act of 1968. Prohibited the sale to civilians of automatic firearms manufactured after the date of the law's passage. Required ATF approval of transfers of automatic firearms. 6. Undetectable Firearms Act (1988): Effectively criminalizes, with a few exceptions, the manufacture, importation, sale, shipment, delivery, possession, transfer, or receipt of firearms with less than 3.7 oz of metal content. 7. Gun-Free School Zones Act (1990): Prohibits unauthorized individuals from knowingly possessing a firearm at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone. 8. Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act (1993): Requires background checks on most firearm purchasers, depending on seller and venue. 9. Federal Assault Weapons Ban (1994–2004): Banned semiautomatics that looked like assault weapons and large capacity ammunition feeding devices. The law expired in 2004. 10. Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (2005): Prevent firearms manufacturers and licensed dealers from being held liable for negligence when crimes have been committed with their products. Can someone from the left please explain to me how they feel more laws, on top of these 10 that have all come about in the last 80 years (8 of those in 50 years, and 5 of them just since 1988. And these are just the major laws that have been put into effect, not including any number of them that are minor or at the individual state level. |

| body | Dana is a really cool person... I met her briefly when I lived in Colorado and she came out to speak at the Boulder Airlift (when Magpul flooded the Colorado market with 30 round mags before pulling up stakes and moving to Wyoming). I understand many of these kids are genuinely upset with what transpired at their school. However, their lack of respect and overall arrogance was quite telling, and this is part of what is wrong with society today. We want actions based on feelings and not logic and facts. |

| title | Big Box Sporting goods stores quit carrying AR15's |
| body | OK... so I was thinking about this a bit and had a thought. The Big-box stores like Dicks, Field and Stream, Walmart, etc... are quitting the sale of AR15 (and other military style rifles). This could actually be a blessing in disguise. So, I know from my own personal experiences that I might just as well flip a coin when talking to someone behind the counter in a big box store if they know anything about 'tactical' style rifles. Typically, the shop will have one or maybe two guys who are good at those rifles (and almost always either Law Enforcement or Military backgrounds) and the rest of the staff is made up of hunters and sportsmen working there for a discount. I would rather not get gear in that style from those shops (unless they mark it down way low and don't realize what they did, which has happened a couple of times) and go to a mom-n-pop gun shop where the guys know their way around the weights of a buffer, or differences between Piston vs DI without having to ask 'what's that mean???'. This might, in some ways, be beneficial for those shops, and keep a number of those small business owners afloat. Let those shops deal with the hunters and sportsmen, since that really is their bread and butter. Does this make sense to anyone else out there, or is it just me looking for a silver lining on the nasty cloud front passing over? |

| title | Subaru continuation... |
| body | So today I had a very strange finding while at the DMV. I had vanity plates on my WRX that was totaled in the accident a few weeks ago. My thought was with the Outback to just get regular plates for it. The woman behind the counter said they don't do refunds on the amount paid on the plates before, but could see what the price for replacement plates would be for me. The total was $14.35... new plates would have been over $50 for just standard plates! Even she was dumbfounded... but she was so sweet to help save me some of my hard earned cash! |

| body | But those against the 2nd amendment will tell you that 44 years ago was a different time. Very sad to think that in ways this is slightly true... but this is an example where you are spot on. As the old adage goes "The 2nd is there to protect the 1st" is true. Too bad future generations may not have the same abilities that past generations have had, as our rights continue to be eroded bit by bit each generation. |

| title | New Trend: ATF Club... must be 21 yrs to join! |
| body | So... the newest trend is that you can't be trusted to purchase a firearm until you are now 21 years of age (or that is what a number of people are now proposing). Why? I am personally against this, then again, I am not a fan of the fact that you can't buy beer at 18 years old either. If you are a legal adult at 18, then get all the benefits of it as well as the drawbacks. The summer after I graduated Highschool, my parents made an agreement with me that was basically the following: "At our age, we could buy beer (3/2 beer) and you can't. So, we will get you beer. Don't overdo it or we will stop it. You can't give it to your friends, and once you open one -- regardless of even having a sip, you are home for the night." I was living under their roof all the way through college, and never had an issue with this. There were countless times my buddies would call saying there was a party, get together, going to hang out as a group, and I would pass without even asking my folks. Was I just ahead of my time? Same was true for guns. When I turned 18, I went to my local bank where I had a savings account, and applied for my first credit card. $750.00 limit... and proceeded that afternoon to buy MY shotgun. I was tired of using my dads everytime I went out and just wanted my own. I made my way down to a big-box store called 'All About Sports' - now gone... and came to my first crossroads as a true gun owner: What one do I buy??? So what did I do? I tucked my crispy new credit card back in my wallet, and dragged my dad out to the sportgoods store that night when he got home from work for some Father-Son bonding. We looked over the two models on sale in that weeks ad. Chose the one that we felt would serve me best, and then I processed my first of many sets of ATF forms, and walked out with it tucked under my arm. I still have that Remington 870 Express Magnum... and have used it for everything from rabbits, pheasants, and countless angry sporting clays over the 27 years I have owned it. I have changed out the stock to a nice laminate pattern... I have bought different barrels, chokes and even a tube extension for it, yet at the core, it is still that same shotgun that my father helped me to pick out, and he even still talks about that evening when we talk guns. So I guess now, if someone is below the legal drinking age, we get to call them a kid??? I bet that is going to go over great. Maybe all those 18-20 year olds in prison should start complaining that they should have been judged by a juvenile court system instead? While we are at it... let's take their smokes away as well and just make the ATF club entirely a 21+ group? It's stupid because it basically says that we have no belief in their ability to make adult decisions. Or, better question: How do we expect our daughters who live on their own to defend themselves if they move out after 18 years of age, and before 21??? |

You can't give it to your friends, and once you open one -- regardless of even having a sip, you are home for the night.\"\nI was living under their roof all the way through college, and never had an issue with this. There were countless times my buddies would call saying there was a party, get together, going to hang out as a group, and I would pass without even asking my folks. Was I just ahead of my time?\n\nSame was true for guns. Chose the one that we felt would serve me best, and then I processed my first of many sets of ATF forms, and walked out with it tucked under my arm.\nI still have that Remington 870 Express Magnum... and have used it for everything from rabbits, pheasants, and countless angry sporting clays over the 27 years I have owned it. I have changed out the stock to a nice laminate pattern... I have bought different barrels, chokes and even a tube extension for it, yet at the core, it is still that same shotgun that my father helped me to pick out, and he even still talks about that evening when we talk guns.\n\nSo I guess now, if someone is below the legal drinking age, we get to call them a kid??? I bet that is going to go over great. Maybe all those 18-20 year olds in prison should start complaining that they should have been judged by a juvenile court system instead? While we are at it... let's take their smokes away as well and just make the ATF club entirely a 21+ group? It's stupid because it basically says that we have no belief in their ability to make adult decisions.\n\nOr, better question: How do we expect our daughters who live on their own to defend themselves if they move out after 18 years of age, and before 21???",

| title | Archery Nationals is in the books! |
| body | Kiddo finished up nationals today with a 843/1200 possible points, which on a 40cm target at 18m is great. 3 days of shooting, with 2 of those used to get the score above. Friday night she shot a 478/600 on a big target. I was working so I missed it. If she looks so tiny next to the other competitors it is because she was shooting an an age bracket up since the 8-9 year olds don't even compete in nationals. Now we just wait to see her national ranking! My kiddo is kicking some serious butt just in time for outdoor season to begin. |

| body | So... Let me get this straight, and maybe I am wrong... The anti-gun movement has said the following: 1. No civilian needs a "assault" rifle (aka semi-auto rifles) 2. The police and military are the only ones who should have guns like in statement #1 3. The police are here to protect us. You can call 911. 4. Police brutality in this country is out of hand. And now we are hearing there are possibly 3 more officers who did not storm the school to make contact with the shooter in Florida. WTF???? I am hoping EVERY good officer out there screams out in anger over this agenda in Broward county! Why in the name of God did these assholes become cops if they were unwilling to risk their lives for our children??? I will only respect good cops, and assholes lime this need to be tarred and feathered as far as Iam concerned. 4 minutes is an eternity in a gunfight. How many additional lives we lost due to their fear? This is just more proof that we all need to be ready to protect ourselves and those we love! |

| body | So today, at my office, we are wearing blue in solidarity for the two Westerville OH Police Officers slain just over a week ago. Westerville is a bedroom community where police officers go to work in a safer environment than one in a city might deal with. They responded to a home due to a 911 call and hangup, and walked into a trap. The killer, a known felon, who had purchased a firearm through a straw dealer who is in custody now as well. On the same day, we are getting word that the school deputy in the Parkland, FL shooting last week stepped down after video surveillance found that he did not choose to go into the school and confront the former student responsible for the death of 17 students. In the civilian police courses I have taken, this is the same attitude during Columbine and cost a number of lives. SWAT trained officers know this, but any deputies assigned to a school had better damn well be ready to storm into a hail of bullets to defend our children. And Sheriff Israel is playing up his anti-gun rhetoric, but not how his officers dropped the ball on this costing lives of our youth. Officers are just like people... some are willing to do their job as necessary, and take the risks each day to serve and protect the citizens of their community while others such as the former deputy in FL are nothing more than a person willing to put forth the minimal amount of effort in their jobs. It is for these reasons that I believe that those citizens who are able and willing to defend themselves as well as their families and loved ones. However, keep in mind, that if you choose to carry a firearm for this... you must do the following: 1. Be trained... and I am not talking just a one or two day course, but continue to train at any given opportunity. 2. Practice, practice, practice 3. Be prepared that you might have to do the most unthinkable thing possible and that is to take a human life. If this happens, you will need to be prepared to handle this for the rest of your life. None of these should be choices to be made lightly, and you need to be in agreement with all 3 before strapping on a sidearm and stating your 2nd Amendment rights. |

| body | So the movement to remove the AR15 continues to grow (and personally the idea of gimmick items like the 'bump stock' are nothing more than a joke and would NEVER degrade any of my rifles, no matter how 'cool' it might be to blow off wads of cash like a drunken college kid at his first strip club!), the question is WHY it is so popular? In my humble opinion, here might be a few reasons: 1. For NOT being a military rifle, they have the same look and feel, and I will say that most gun guys I know like that at some degree. Also, for those who did serve in the military, this is something they are very familiar with (as my father once put it: "It's like my 16... and I slept with my 16"). When done legally, you can even have a Short Barreled Rifle configuratuion with a suppressor that measures the same as a standard rifle (Yes... and when I say 'legally' I am talking about filing ALL the necessary paperwork with the ATF, pay each of the $200.00 tax stamps (in this case there would be 2), and then waiting up to 11 months (shortest time I have ever waited was 7 months for a suppressor, but my SBR'd receiver was 8 weeks)before you can actually put it together without risking 10 years in Federal (bang you in the a$$) prison, and I believe it is now a $250,000.00 fine! 2. The AR15 is a cost effective rifle. The 5.56/.223 round is plentiful and inexpensive. FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) ammo can be had for about $40 for 100 rounds. This means that it won't break the bank to go out and put some rounds through it. I would wager the only other rounds cheaper than this are going to be .22lr and 9mm, both of which are very good for their purposes. This removes the excuses of not being good with it, familiar with it, etc... because at those prices you don't have an excuse not to practice! 3. You can make them look cool! Go out on some of the pages, and there are guys really making some almost showpiece grade rifles. Way too pretty to be used in the mud and dirt on a battlefield. The people who make and work on rifles like these have no desire to go and shoot up an office building, school, etc... these are more like a functioning piece of artwork. Something you can make and still use. Following up on this part also, is the fact that the receiver can be easily modified if you want to change things like the stocks, barrels, and other accessories out. This does a couple of things: It allows you to have a single registered receiver (the part that classifies as the gun itself) that you can make functional for different things. I might have a 20" barrel that I use for hunting coyote that harass my sisters horses, or a 16" carbine for basic usage, or a 10.5" SBR that I would mount a suppressor onto for home/property defense where I might not have time to put on muffs/ear plugs to drop down the 165+db sound of each shot (where with a good silencer/suppressor/can it can be brought below 140db which is classified as Hearing Safe), prior to it going off in a potentially tight area like a hallway or screened in porch. This last one is something that nobody really wants to talk about: hearing damage. God forbid I would ever have to use one of my guns for defense in the home, the sound a shotgun or pistol produces is horrendous, and a rifle is worse! Now in the heat of the moment, I am not going to care, but the damage to my ears would be permanent for sure and I for one would never want that. I want to be able to grow old and listen to my future family without the use of hearing aids if at all possible, and most of all... like most gun owning Americans I want to do this with NEVER having had to use any of my weapons against another person. |

| title | shedding light on some mis-understadings/fears of AR15s |
| body | In the wake of the tragedy in Florida, the fear mongering is rampant once again. If I can do one thing, I would like to at least help educate those out there before making knee-jerk reactions. First... The 'super powerful, death dealing AR15' is not a all-powerful round, though it is currently in use by the NATO powers. Part of that reason is due to the fact that soldiers can carry more of it than the old 7.62 round that was used previously. The M14 had a 20 round magazine, and the M16 (or any of the other military variants across the world) used a 30 round magazine (though in Vietnam many 20 rounders were in use as well). Projectile vs Projectile, when comparing weight, it would take 47 rounds of 5.56 (62gr weight) to equal the same weight of 20 rounds of 7.62 (147gr weight). This meant that a soldier could basically throw 3 rounds at the enemy for every one he used to be able to use. On the civilian side of the house... the .223 round (the lower pressure version of the 5.56 NATO round) uses a .55 grain weight bullet that is .224" diameter. It is commonly used as a varmint round for groundhogs, coyotes, and the like and in most states it is not deemed a lethal enough round to hunt whitetail deer with. There are a lot of soldiers whom I have known over the years who don't like the 5.56 in combat, because they feel if it isn't adequate to kill a deer, why should they be using it against a two-legged predator??? Why is the AR15 so common? I know for me, the market has become flooded with a number of parts that you can build/assemble them as you desire and none in your collection will look the same. I know folks with 20" target rifles and some who have completed and waited the required time deemed necessary by the ATF to have one with a barrel shorter than 16" that still has a shoulder stock. My thoughts, and these are purely mine, are that this country needs to sure up their background check process before going any further with more laws that will do nothing but make law abiding citizens outlaws. Fix what is currently broken, before sinking more money into something that is potentially not necessary. Laws don't work... the drug war has proved that. | Alcohol laws have never stopped high school kids from getting someone to buy them beer, and then doing stupid things (or just getting blitzed and having fun too!). What makes you think that a gun law is going to stop those who still want a gun from getting one? Seriously, think about it??? |
