As a traveler, who vowed to travel with the bare minimum, I took a bus from Guwahati (Assam) to reach CHAHONG KHULLEN Village in Ukhrul district of Manipur. \n\nRecommended by one of my friends from Manipur, with whom I stayed – CHAHONG KHULLEN village was worth the visit. The village is home to around 130 families and has a literacy rate of 77.9%, higher than most average in India. \nThe best way to reach Ukhrul district is to take a bus from Guwahati or a direct flight to Imphal then a 3-hour bus ride to Ukhrul. People traveling by train can travel to Dimapur and then the similar 3-hour bus ride to Ukhrul district. There are private taxis available which comes at a nominal rate of INR 250-400/person.\nPeople expecting nightlife should refrain from visiting and is not exactly a vegetarian’s paradise as well. However, one must try their hands on the local handicrafts and garments with tribal designs and artwork, which are absolutely stunning and can be carried as souvenirs.\n\nHonestly, I wouldn’t be able to discuss the hotels available as I didn’t check into one, but I’m sure there must be quite a few guesthouses.       "body": "![play-outside.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmYfnhCQKFZqQaPV8yxZbFrbpVubD4i8ySY618PhyadYCn/play-outside.jpg)\n\nBeing virtuous and obedient is rewarding as a child – inviting appreciation, as they do their homework on time with some showered with “extra marks for good handwriting”; they tidy up their own space and help their parents; they are also careful about applying the brakes while cycling downhill. \nAs they do not pose an immediate problem with any particular concern, unlike the child who is busy climbing fences and graffitiing the neighbour’s wall – parents conclude that good children are acceptable and it’s great to have a well-behaved child to do everything as expected of them.\nAnd this precisely is the problem. \nAn overload of virtue and the excessive need for compliance make the children vulnerable to bullies and emotional resilience and they end up feeling neglected and unfulfilled for the rest of their life. The good children aren’t good by the aspect of their nature, they are in fact, left with no choice than being good.\n\n“Their goodness is a necessity rather than a choice”.\n\nMany children are good out of love for their depressed and harassed parent who makes it clear that they look forward to no more complications or sometimes facing a violent parent can be too overwhelming, who demands no less than perfect behaviour. This repression later translates into psychosomatic symptoms, sudden outburst, and bitterness.\n\nAs adults, the ideology of a good child can bring in problems at work – they follow rules, listen to everyone, which don’t get them far in their adult life. Everything worth doing will meet with a certain degree of disagreement and will disappoint many, but worth holding on. \nThis good child personality can pose peculiar problems around sexual behaviour as well. As a child, they were deemed and praised for their innocence and after discovering the ecstasy of sex which can be ‘beautifully perverse and imaginatively disgusting’ disowning their beliefs. In response, they can go cold and detached in a way which is both destructive and frightening.\nThe problem of a good child is not his goodness, rather his experience of other people not accepting his badness and still, feel loved nevertheless.",

However, the long-term implication is vile, as children start – lacking agency, be accountable for their outcomes or take charge of their life –resulting in a generation which is always stressed out and can’t function alone, which is not good at a societal level and engenders a crisis in leadership at a place where adult-style behaviour is crucial for future success.\nThe generation of helicoptered children first bloomed among the middle-to-upper class parents who were desperate to maintain the status quo and the best way to accomplish this was to price out in a way that seemed meritocratic and education became the key which soon translated into the rise of ‘exorbitant higher education’ – prep classes, expensive extra-curriculars followed by rigid kids schedule and vigilant parenting. Permissive parenting became less appealing as the risks were high.\nIn situations of such, a society breeds fear. Kids should be able to make their own mistakes growing up. “Life is about having the confidence to get on the right path if you’re walking the wrong way; to get back up when you fall down”.\nWell, parents love no doubt and loving by the means of helicoptering is an inadequate defense mechanism against the unyielding future. Though we’re aware; however, in the wave of feminism, the boys are in the lurch – struggling of being worthy and finding a sense of purpose in the ever-demanding fraternity of ‘successful men’, ‘responsible fathers’ and ‘leaders’.\n\nThough blaming it to feminism isn’t fair, because historically we’ve been dependent upon boys dying in order for us to live. We lure them with social bribes, calling them ‘heroes’ – glorifying their death on our behalf. How sad does it sound that “our very survival depends on our boy’s willingness to die”. Being ‘sensitive’ towards men competes with our survival instinct and ones we unveil this curtain; we understand the severity of the crisis among boys compared to their counterparts in every aspect of life and in almost all nations.\nNow, if we consider the common trait and the leading cause of boy crisis among the nations, Dad-deprivation tops the chart. When a boy goes from a dad-deprived home to a male-teacher deprived school, it adds to his crisis. It’s seen that boys do better with male teachers and likely to score more on an average when the teacher doesn’t know that the person who took the test is a boy.\n\n\nThis introduces us to the third cause of Boy Crisis – Lack of Purpose. \nBefore the industrial boom, a man’s sense of purpose was either to be a warrior or a sole breadwinner. However, as men-women relationship changed and feminist movement came in, which of course did wonderful things for women, by expanding their sense of purpose – from the old ‘raise children only’ purpose to raise children, raise money and the combination of both purposes –  a man’s sense of purpose remained immutable to earn money or be a loser. Whilst, the feminist movement introduced women to professions dominated by men, men taking caring profession (e.g. full-time dad, social worker, nurse etc.) isn’t much talked about. \n\nThis crisis of purpose makes boys feel estranged, withdrawn and hooked on to immediate gratification which later translates into mental health issues and addiction. \n\n\nIt’s crucial for every father to put high value on his son’s physical and mental health. One of the greatest examples is the era of ‘Cold war’ and if we got anything more was Fake News – The Soviet had their own version of Fake news and the west had theirs (probably a better curated one). \n\nHowever, what bothers us more is the dispersal of numerous facades of facts and its uncontrollable plurality – for example, one might claim there are people living on Mars, NASA is hiding facts, while the other might claim, Mars is a dead planet. This freedom of fake news hampers the ruling ideology in the public space. While fake news about business, terrorism, war, entertainment and technology works well – fake news about politics unfailingly does best.\n\nThe problem now is to understand the actual lies to what we don’t agree with. While the critics of Fake news claim the idea of ‘no absolute truth’, and truth being relative to circumstances. What lies beneath the fear of fake news is not the search for truth, but to propagate a single obligatory lie, which we know is a lie and adhere to create a streamline hierarchical space.\n\nHowever, one good thing about Fake news is that it allows us to understand how arbitrary the truth is and makes it clear that the social space is not affable to the government and fake news are too provocative not to succeed.",

The movie explains how to escape one’s mental prison and reconcile with our mortality to fully live in the present. The Fountain is not about the big revelation or unlocking the mysteries of the Universe but to live without them. It shows us how a child thrives where adults stumble. The movie depicts the simple purity of connecting to another human being, which was easier back then but seems more difficult now.
