| body | The US central bank, the Fed, has raised interest rates as expected. In the fight against high inflation, the base interest rate has been raised from zero to 0.25 to 0.5 percent. The Fed is expected to raise interest rates further in small steps in the coming months. The last time the Fed raised interest rates was in 2018. With the outbreak of the corona pandemic in March 2020, the Fed cut interest rates in two steps to zero percent and started a large-scale bailout program to protect the economy from a collapse. The US economy is now showing a strong recovery from the crisis and is struggling with sharply rising inflation. That's the highest inflation in more than 40 years, partly due to rising energy prices. "Inflation remains well above our long-term target of 2 percent," Fed Chairman Powell said. “The rise in crude oil and other commodity prices as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine will put additional short-term upward pressure on inflation here with us.” Powell expects interest rates to average 1.9 percent at the end of this year and to 2.8 percent in 2023. That is a lot higher than previously stated. Powell: "These expectations do not represent a decision or plan by the Fed and no one knows with any certainty where the economy will be a year from now." Fed vs ECB Unlike the Fed, the European Central Bank (ECB) has so far been unwilling to raise interest rates, despite skyrocketing inflation. According to the ECB, Europe's high inflation is largely the result of excessive oil and gas prices, combined with the war in Ukraine. Inflation is expected to fall again in the course of this year or next. In addition, Europe has to import most of its energy, while the US produces a lot of oil and gas itself. Another indicator for interest rates is the labor market and wage developments. In the US, the tight labor market and inflation are pushing up wages and creating a wage-price spiral, something that has not yet really happened in Europe. Bandwidth By the way, the US uses a bandwidth of a quarter of a percent in the base interest rate. The interest is now at 0.25 to 0.5 percent. This is due to the economic differences in regions and states, which means that some regions benefit more from higher interest rates than others. Regions can therefore better coordinate interest rates. The ECB base rate, on the other hand, is simply a percentage, although the eurozone is also made up of different economies with economically and financially strong(er) and weak(er) countries, which would also benefit from different interest rates. Germany and the Netherlands tolerate higher interest rates better than, for example, Italy or Greece. However, a range of interest rates in the euro countries could have a disruptive effect and trigger unwanted capital flows between countries. |

| body | Russia has to make an interest payment of about 107 million euros today. A modest amount, but the sanctions make it difficult for Russia to meet its financial obligations. Therefore, it could lead to the bankruptcy of Russia. It concerns two government bonds in dollars that Russia issued in 2013. The interest on this must therefore also be paid in dollars, but that is virtually impossible due to international sanctions. Because of the war in Ukraine, Russia can hardly get dollars and euros anymore. What if Russia misses the payment? Russia's national debt last year was about 61 billion euros, of which 19 billion euros in foreign currency. The country had a relatively low external debt (4 percent) relative to gross domestic product. If Russia does not make the interest payments, it will have another 30 days before it is considered a defaulter. "It is not a mega amount and the payment should not be a problem for Russia. The country has a reserve of 600 billion dollars, but because of the sanctions they cannot reach it," says Rabobank analyst Stefan Koopman. From an economic perspective, a possible default is less serious for the Russian economy than the sanctions imposed, says Jeroen van den Broek, bond strategist at ING. "Access to capital markets will be limited for Russia, making the recovery more difficult. But the consequences and effects of the sanctions are greater." If Russia goes bankrupt, the country can still try to borrow money or turn to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support with money that its members have raised. Whether Russia would also receive money from the IMF's restructuring program remains to be seen, however. Why not in rubles? Russia will probably make the repayment in rubles, but contracts often state that this is not allowed. "As a bondholder, you are not satisfied with rubles. Or you have to negotiate, but you will in any case suffer a loss," says Jos Versteeg, stock market analyst at InsingerGilissen. In addition, the ruble has plummeted since the beginning of this year. Koopman: "Investors have not invested in government bonds that are not in rubles for nothing. They wanted the guarantee of a hard currency." But if Russia does convert that into rubles, you now have to deal with a loss of value of about 30 percent. And you will not be compensated for that by the Russian government," says Koopman. The rate of the Russian currency: According to the analysts, default is annoying for investors, but consumers will not immediately notice the consequences. "The consumer will notice more of the inflation. Missing a payment is a single incident," says Versteeg. With this, the stock analyst points to inflation due to the war in Ukraine, which can already be seen in oil prices and food prices. According to the analysts, the consequences of a bankrupt Russia for the rest of the world are also limited. Versteeg expects that we will only hear later whether Russia has missed the payment. "That can sometimes be done cautiously, because often there is still negotiation, but in the background." |

"body": "\nRussia has to make an interest payment of about 107 million euros today. A modest amount, but the sanctions make it difficult for Russia to meet its financial obligations. Therefore, it could lead to the bankruptcy of Russia.\n\nIt concerns two government bonds in dollars that Russia issued in 2013. The interest on this must therefore also be paid in dollars, but that is virtually impossible due to international sanctions. Because of the war in Ukraine, Russia can hardly get dollars and euros anymore.\n\nWhat if Russia misses the payment?\nRussia's national debt last year was about 61 billion euros, of which 19 billion euros in foreign currency. The country had a relatively low external debt (4 percent) relative to gross domestic product.\n\nIf Russia does not make the interest payments, it will have another 30 days before it is considered a defaulter. \"It is not a mega amount and the payment should not be a problem for Russia. The country has a reserve of 600 billion dollars, but because of the sanctions they cannot reach it,\" says Rabobank analyst Stefan Koopman.\n\nFrom an economic perspective, a possible default is less serious for the Russian economy than the sanctions imposed, says Jeroen van den Broek, bond strategist at ING. \"Access to capital markets will be limited for Russia, making the recovery more difficult. But the consequences and effects of the sanctions are greater.\"\n\nIf Russia goes bankrupt, the country can still try to borrow money or turn to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for support with money that its members have raised. Whether Russia would also receive money from the IMF's restructuring program remains to be seen, however.\n\nWhy not in rubles?\nRussia will probably make the repayment in rubles, but contracts often state that this is not allowed. \"As a bondholder, you are not satisfied with rubles. Or you have to negotiate, but you will in any case suffer a loss,\" says Jos Versteeg, stock market analyst at InsingerGilissen.\n\nIn addition, the ruble has plummeted since the beginning of this year. Koopman: \"Investors have not invested in government bonds that are not in rubles for nothing. They wanted the guarantee of a hard currency.\"\n\nBut if Russia does convert that into rubles, you now have to deal with a loss of value of about 30 percent. | body | The film studio behind the James Bond films, among other things, is definitively in the hands of tech giant Amazon. It means that Amazon Prime Video's offerings are enriched with MGM's collection. It consists of more than 4,000 films and 17,000 TV episodes. The tech giant announced last May that it wanted to buy MGM (Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer) for the equivalent of 6.91 billion euros. The question then was whether regulators in the US and in the EU would give permission. Investigating abuse of power Amazon is under a magnifying glass on both continents for possible abuse of power; several investigations are underway. In addition, people are critical of allowing tech companies to grow through acquisitions. Nevertheless , the European Commission gave the green light for the acquisition on Tuesday. The conclusion was that the merger of the two companies does not lead to concerns about unfair competition. In the view of the Committee, the overlap between the parties in the audiovisual world is limited, as is their joint market share. Amazon critic The American regulator FTC had until mid-March to file a case against the planned takeover. That didn't happen. The chairman of the committee, Linda Khan, is known as a critic of the American group. |

| body | Large consumers of sunflower oil are concerned about an imminent shortage of this oil. Supermarkets are already limiting the number of bottles of sunflower oil that can be purchased per customer; customers at Plus and Jumbo can take a maximum of one bottle with them. The director of the trade association of professional fryers, ProFri, calls it almost inevitable that prices in snack bars and cafeterias will rise due to the shortage of sunflower oil and the demand for other oils. But consumers and large users - from snack bars and restaurants to (pastry) bakers - are also wary of other products. Half-filled shelves Ukraine and Russia are major exporters of sunflower oil. For example, two thirds of all sunflower oil that the Netherlands imports comes from Ukraine. The Central Food Trade Agency (CBL) is already seeing that supermarkets have fewer bottles of sunflower oil on their shelves. The stock of sunflower oil could be exhausted by mid-April, estimates the trade association for companies in animal and vegetable oils MVO. There are plenty of other oils available. Sunflower oil is not only used in its pure form, for example to bake chips, it is also used in products such as bread, pasta, sauces, chips, biscuits and cakes. A shortage of sunflower oil means that all products in which it is used become more expensive or more difficult to obtain. 'Shorts during Ramadan' "I fear that we will soon have to sell a liter bottle of sunflower oil for five euros," says Sükrü Temiz, owner of the Turkish supermarket Temiz, which has several branches and a wholesaler in Hengelo. "The purchase price has risen enormously. Because we have a wholesaler, we still get oil from suppliers, but filling a truck is not possible." He has also set a limit in his stores of five bottles per customer. Habiba Bouanan says it took two days to find enough oil for the weekly meals that she distributes to women with a migration background in East Amsterdam. There is also normally sunflower oil in the food packages that she distributes on behalf of the Prachtvrouw foundation. "Now the shelves are empty." She advises everyone not to hoard. "Oil is one of the first things you buy in your preparation for the Ramadan period. In that month the food is more festive," she says. Ramadan starts on April 1 this year. "Now I see people getting into trouble because of the high prices. And olive oil is even more expensive." Supermarket owner Temiz also notices the concerns of his customers in the course of Ramadan. "For another shortage is flour." This could have consequences for the pides (large Turkish breads) and delicacies that many Turkish shops sell, which are popular during Ramadan. Also problems with Turkish products Temiz has almost nothing left in stock. And according to him, the next bottleneck is already in sight: Turkey no longer wants to export bulgur, red lentils and white beans, products that Turkish supermarkets often stock abroad. "I expect more shortages and even more jackpot prizes in four or five weeks." "Perhaps it is good that we start living frugally during Ramadan, as it used to be," concludes Habiba Bouanan. |

| body | The global flow of goods is feeling the effects of another lockdown in China and the increasing obstacles caused by the war in Ukraine. And that while the chains have not yet recovered from the disruptions caused by corona. Maritime transport notices these obstacles in the increasing waiting times. According to Evofenedex, the business association for trade and logistics, the increasing waiting times are the result of a combination of the sanctions against Russia, the after-effects of corona and the tight labor market that leads, among other things, to a shortage of loaders and unloaders in the Netherlands. the harbor. In Northern European ports, the waiting time for export and transhipment is said to have increased by about forty percent compared to early February. Much longer waiting times, not much of which can be seen in the port of Rotterdam, a spokesperson said. "It is busy at the container terminals and it is great that the transhipment continues despite the accumulation of Russian containers." Forbidden goods Among other things, the European Union has banned the export of goods that can be used for military purposes. After the promulgation of that export ban, some 6000 containers were detained in Rotterdam. Customs say that containers are still being added and that about 1000 containers are now stacked up that must first be checked. The increasing waiting times for sea transport in Northern European ports: The international flow of goods was already hampered in Ukraine before the war. As a result of the pandemic, there was a container crisis , in which world trade was disrupted by, among other things, lockdowns and prices went through the roof. The logistics system has been thrown out of balance and you can also feel the extra control on containers in Rotterdam, says Victor van der Chijs, chairman of Deltalinqs, the business association of logistics, port and industrial companies. "The port is full of containers, so you can't get something like that." And in addition to longer waiting times, sea transport to Russia is also coming to a standstill because shipping companies such as Maersk, MSC, ONE and Hapag-Lloyd previously decided not to take new bookings for container transport to Russia. Miracle Due to the stacking of containers in the port, companies have moved to other places in the port area of Rotterdam. Van der Chijs: "You have to see Rotterdam as a miracle of logistics: everything is very tightly coordinated. If even one container arrives late, you can see the system getting stuck a bit. Port of Rotterdam really worries." Because about 15 percent of the transhipment in the port of Rotterdam is related to Russia. The port of Rotterdam is an important player when it comes to the transhipment of coal (20%), oil products (20%), LNG (25%) and crude oil (30%) from Russia. But the Port Authority says it will only really notice the consequences of the war in Ukraine if there is a boycott on oil and gas from Russia. According to the Dutch Petroleum Industry Association, there are currently no oil shortages. Director Erik Klooster: "The stock of diesel is tight, but there is no question of a physical shortage. And to replace trade with Russia, companies are currently looking for alternatives as best they can." |

| body | Fuel prices have reached new record highs in recent weeks. And as a result, people who (have to) drive a car lose considerably more money. Of course you can search for the cheapest gas station in your area to save with apps. But how much petrol or diesel you use also depends on how you handle your car. We have listed what you can do to reduce your consumption. To this end, we collected tips from Milieu Centraal and spoke to expert Jos van der Drift of the ANWB. According to him, driving behavior can make a big difference in fuel consumption. "I think if you take the two extremes, the aggressive versus the defensive driver, the difference in fuel consumption is about 20 percent." Here's all the tips: Combine multiple small rides on different days into one big ride . "A car needs about fifteen minutes to reach operating temperature and then it is the most economical," says Van der Drift. "So don't drive to the supermarket one day, to pick up a package at the post office the next day and to the pharmacy the next day. These are the most expensive trips, because the engine stays cold. The consumption is about double that. when the engine is up to temperature." Drive slowly . If you drive 100 instead of 130, that saves about 14 percent in fuel, according to Milieu Centraal. And 80 is even more economical. On the highway you can consider driving behind a truck , but at a safe distance . "A kind of shelter is created behind a large truck with relatively little wind resistance," says Van der Drift. Use cruise control as much as possible . If you don't have cruise control, drive as much as possible at a constant speed, because then you consume less than when you go a little harder and softer. Drive in anticipation, letting the car roll out as much as possible and having to brake as little as possible. "If you see in the distance that the traffic light is turning red, release the accelerator immediately," says Van der Drift. "The Netherlands is packed with roundabouts. You have to stop accelerating so far in advance that you can take the roundabout without braking." Shift to a higher gear as early as possible, at about 2000 rpm . Follow the shift indicator, if you have one. Use less gas? Do you also want to know how you can reduce your gas consumption at home? We have listed these tips before. Can you decide yourself what time you will drive? Then avoid the rush hour. Because the busier it is, the less you can drive on and stopping and accelerating again and again costs a lot of fuel. Do you have an automatic? Avoid sport mode . Because in that position, the car only shifts to a higher gear later. And are you up to speed? Then let the accelerator pedal slightly. Then the automatic transmission shifts to a higher gear faster. Turn on the start-stop system if your car has one. As a result, the engine switches off if you stop at a red light. Check your tire pressure regularly, every two months . And top up if necessary. Do not rely on the sensor that indicates that a tire is too slack, because then you are actually too late. Make the car as light as possible . Because the heavier, the more fuel. Also remove your roof box or bicycle carrier if you are not using it. Because they also make your car less aerodynamic. Use as few internal systems as possible such as the air conditioning, fan, heating, seat heating and rear window heating. "They all use electricity, so the engine has to work harder," says Van der Drift. "The ventilation on position 1 or 2 will not consume much, but an air conditioner does." Also don't try to open your windows as an alternative to the air conditioning. Because this makes your car less aerodynamic and that costs more energy than a switched-on air conditioning. According to Van der Drift, if your car is very hot in the summer, it is wise to first open all the windows to let the heat escape. Only then turn on the air conditioning. If you can take several routes, choose the most economical route . That may be the shortest route, but it doesn't have to be. A slightly longer route on which it is better to continue driving can still be more economical. Consider whether that car ride is really necessary and whether it is not possible with the (electric) bicycle . That is always cheaper. It can also be cheaper to go by public transport. |

| body | Education authorities in Sri Lanka have postponed the exams of some 3 million students because there is no money left to buy paper. "We have no paper for the printers and can not afford the necessary paper, but also the ink," said the Ministry of Education. The exams would start next Monday and last a week. An estimated two-thirds of the 4.5 million high school students in the South Asian country are now unable to take tests. It is not clear if and when these will take place. rations Sri Lanka is facing the worst financial crisis since independence in 1948. The lack of income from tourism, due to the corona crisis and terrorist attacks, has hit the economy hard and poverty is high. There is a shortage of food, fuel and medicines. Milk powder, rice and sugar are only rationed and due to high fuel prices, power supplies across the country are shut off for more than seven hours a day . Last week, Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa asked the International Monetary Fund for help in solving the financial problems. The IMF has pledged to "consider" a rescue plan. |

| body | In Belgium you can refuel cheaper from today than was already the case. The excise duty has been reduced by 17.5 cents per liter, which means that many Dutch people look for the pump across the border. In Poppel, under Tilburg, among others, Dutch cars are queuing for refueling. A liter of petrol costs 1.77 euros there, the recommended retail price in the Netherlands is 2.41 euros, according to UnitedConsumers. "At 08.00 hours the first Dutchmen were already queuing. I have even provided a diversion route with crush barriers to make everything go safely," the gas station owner In Poppel told the VRT . Also in Maasmechelen, across the border at Geleen, many Dutch people were filling up early: In Belgium, fuel was also considerably cheaper before the reduction of excise duties than in the Netherlands. The excise duty reduction in Belgium will last at least until the end of June. Excise duties will also be reduced in the Netherlands, but only from 1 April. From then on you pay 17 cents less for a liter of petrol and 11 cents less for a liter of diesel. The measure will be in effect for at least six months. |

| body | Russia's financial market, the Moscow Stock Exchange, has been closed for three weeks. No shares can be bought or sold, the share prices are frozen and have no relationship with what is happening in the outside world. Investors and investors must wait patiently as their invested capital evaporates. How did it come to this and what are the consequences? A reconstruction. The invasion begins on Thursday, February 24 at 3 a.m., as the Russian army enters Ukraine. A few hours later, the Moscow stock exchange starts trading and the stock market collapses completely. The MOEX, the Russian AEX, plummets by 33 percent, the shares of large state-owned companies such as Lukoil and Gazprom are badly damaged and lose 20 to 25 percent. The price losses of the Russian shares listed there are even greater in London and New York. A day later, there is a noticeable recovery in the price losses, a kind of convulsion. The MOEX closes the day 20 percent higher, Lukoil gains 6 percent and Gazprom 8.5 percent. Sanctions are putting a stranglehold on Russian banks, companies and individuals and forcing the Russian central bank to take drastic measures. On February 28, it decides to definitively stop trading on the stock exchange. It is no longer possible to trade in shares and bonds, the money market is also being restricted. The central bank is also doubling interest rates to 20 percent to stem the fall of the ruble and slow down the screeching inflation, which peaked at 9.2 percent in February. Domestic and foreign investors are faced with a closed door in Moscow. Some Russian stocks can still be traded on the stock exchanges in London and New York, including the three major energy companies Gazprom, Lukoil and Rosneft. But the prices of those three collapse, the shares are only worth a few cents. On Thursday 3 March, day eight of the war, the stock exchanges of London and Wall Street decide to cancel trading altogether. Stock market closed Stopping the stock market rarely happens, and only in crisis situations such as disasters, political chaos or terrorist attacks. The first time on Wall Street was in 1914. At the outbreak of World War I, the stock market was closed for four months. In 2001, after the September 11 attacks, the stock market closed for four days to avoid panic and a stock market crash and because the stock exchange building was also physically inaccessible. During the euro crisis in the summer of 2015, the Greek stock market closed for five weeks because the country threatened to fall out of the euro. In Egypt, the stock market was closed for almost eight weeks in February and March 2011 during the turbulent demonstrations in Tahrir Square in the Arab Spring. The Russian stock market closing in times of war and severe financial and economic sanctions may be understandable, but it is not clear what needs to be done to resume trading. What is it waiting for? A victory in the war? Revocation of sanctions? The world's relationship with Russia has changed completely in three weeks, the break with the Russian market is deep and not easy to repair. The Russian central bank announced a partial opening of the financial market on Friday. Trading in Russian government bonds will resume from tomorrow, but the stock market will remain closed for the time being. That costs a lot of money. The price falls are huge and a recovery of the prices is unlikely: the invested capital has largely evaporated. “ The Russian economy is taking a huge hit. Ralph Wessels, ABN Amro "The stock exchange is an important capital market for companies and a well-functioning stock exchange is good for the business climate. That is in the interest of investors and investors," says Ralph Wessels, head of investment strategy at ABN Amro. "The Russian economy is going to take a huge hit, with all these sanctions and companies leaving. It will all stick to Russia for a long time to come and keep companies and investors away, and hinder Russian companies from financing and growth." The market value of the Moscow stock exchange, the market value of all listed stock funds, was $650 billion at the beginning of this year and only a fraction of that is left. One sixth of the stock market value, approximately $85 billion, is held by foreign institutional investors, including pension funds. So there will have to be a lot of depreciation on Russian investments. ABP was on time Pension fund ABP narrowly escaped major losses on the Russia portfolio. At the end of September 2021, it had invested 2.2 billion euros in Russian equities and bonds, but the fund decided to reduce significantly at the end of the year. For example, a large part of the investments in Russian oil and gas companies was sold, along with many other investments in Russian companies and banks. At the end of February, ABP still had 520 million euros in investments in Russia. ABP has announced that it now wants to get rid of everything, but realizes that selling is currently complicated and actually impossible, because Russia prohibits the sale of Russian interests by foreign investors. Oil giants Shell and BP are hitting the same wall. They want to withdraw from Russia by selling the activities, but the Russians do not want to take it over and so Shell and BP leave empty-handed. BP says it expects a $22 billion write-off, while Shell expects a $3 billion loss. Russia at war costs investors, investors and companies a lot of money left or right, so the financial pain is not only on the Russian side. |

| body | Companies in trade and industry in particular did business with Russia last year, according to figures from the Central Statistical Office. 3000 Dutch companies have exported goods to the country, and 2000 companies imported products. For Dutch companies, trade with Russia has become very complicated due to the sanctions, they also notice at the sanctions counter of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). Entrepreneurs can go there with questions about the impact of the sanctions on their business operations. "We mainly get the question from companies whether they are still allowed to export their products," says Rinske van den Brink of the RVO. She answers questions from entrepreneurs on the telephone. They also wonder whether they can still do business with a Russian company, because an owner or shareholder is on the sanction list. And there are concerns about making a payment to or receiving money from Russia. No money How hard companies are hit by the sanctions depends on what they trade, as well as the importance of that trade to their business. Statistics Netherlands figures show that almost 5 percent of companies that do business with Russia depend on Russia for more than half of the trade value. "Exporting to Russia is becoming increasingly difficult, also because payments fail and entrepreneurs therefore do not receive any money. The companies that depend on it are affected," says Van den Brink. In such a case, the RVO cannot do much except explain how the sanctions work and refer them to authorities. Medicines and flowers Most of the trade comes from companies with 250 employees or more. This also includes Dutch subsidiaries of foreign concerns. In export, for example, medicines and flowers are important products. What is taken from Russia are mainly raw materials: oil, coal, iron and steel. |

| body | In the coming one to two years, chip machine maker ASML does not expect to be able to keep up with the expansion drive of chip manufacturers. That says CEO Peter Wennink in conversation with the Financial Times . The machines are desperately needed to be able to meet the demand, which continues to grow in the coming years. The sector has been struggling with a major chip shortage for over a year ; there is no short-term solution. In the longer term, additional production capacity should therefore relieve the pressure. Essential link The Dutch ASML, based in Veldhoven, is an essential link in the global chip sector. The company makes machines that parties such as Intel, Samsung and TSMC need to be able to produce chips. ASML even has a monopoly position in the field of the most advanced chips, which are made with EUV (extreme ultraviolet) machines . The companies can therefore not ignore ASML. And if that group cannot deliver enough, those companies cannot grow fast enough. "There will be shortages in the coming year and the year after," Wennink told the Financial Times. The company expects to ship more machines, but it will not be enough to meet the demand, the CEO thinks. "We need to increase our capacity by more than 50 percent. That takes time." When asked, a spokesperson tells NOS that this example indicates "the complexity of the entire supply chain". When asked whether the situation has worsened, the answer is no. The company is currently expanding capacity and recruiting and onboarding new people. increase European production Just last week, Intel announced a major investment of tens of billions of euros in the European chip sector. As part of that, it also plans to build a large production campus in Magdeburg, Germany. For the time being, it does not appear that this location will also suffer from this; the expectation is that the two factories that will be built there will not start producing chips until 2027. If ASML's estimate is correct, the shortages will have been resolved well before that time. Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger tells the newspaper that he is in direct contact with Wennink about the situation. He emphasizes that there is still time to solve the problems before the factories that are now being built are put into operation. Wennink also agrees, but at the same time emphasizes that his company is dependent on the production of lenses from Carl Zeiss, a German manufacturer. "Significantly more" should be made of that. Expanding production takes quite some time, quite apart from the fact that making the lens itself takes more than a year. Competitors are building too In addition, the investment in Europe is only a small part of a much larger whole. Intel has also announced a new major location in the US and competitors Samsung and TSMC are also investing tens of billions of euros in building new factories. Many, if not all, production locations will be filled with the chip machines of the company from Veldhoven. |

| body | Eneco customers with a new variable contract will have to deal with monthly changing prices. If the prices for gas and electricity differ significantly from the previous month, the monthly amount will also be adjusted, CEO As Tempelman said during a press meeting in response to the annual figures. This concerns customers who receive a new variable contract on or after 1 April, for example because their annual contract is expiring. Last week, Vattenfall already announced that it would adjust the prices in the meantime as of 1 April. Normally, most suppliers adjust prices twice a year, on January 1 and July 1. "We will move more with the market and thus reduce the risk for ourselves and our customers," says Tempelman. Eneco also reported that it would no longer conclude new contracts for the supply of Russian gas. A number of contracts that run until this month or next month will not be extended. About 15 percent of the gas that Eneco supplies to its customers comes from Russia. energy poverty A long-term contract from 2010 will not be terminated. According to Tempelman, the natural gas that would be released as a result would then be sold for a higher price, so that Russia would earn more money. In addition, the "affordable security of supply" of Eneco's customers would be endangered. This long-term contract is valid until 2030. According to Eneco, energy poverty in the Netherlands has increased sharply in the past year. "That is a major concern," says Tempelman. "The number of calls to the call center is increasing." To date, approximately half of Eneco's customers have been confronted with a price increase. About 94 percent of customers currently pay on time. |
