He found that the soup actually slowed down the movement of the cells. \nThis in turn slowed down the growth of mucus. There it was: scientific evidence that chicken soup could slow down cold symptoms. \n\nSo what exactly is in chicken soup that helps it fight a cold? The scientist couldn’t tell. He destroyed paintings he was dissatisfied with.\n\nBacon was so ruthless that from the first fifteen years of his career only fourteen paintings survive. \nEven towards the end of his life the ritual slashing of rejected canvases with a knife continued. \nHe would not let anything second rate leave his studio. \n\nOnce, he was walking past a gallery when he saw one of his paintings in the window. \nHe decided it wasn’t as good as he once thought. He went into the gallery, bought the painting, took it outside and destroyed it.\n\nHe knew that the longer he worked on a painting, the more ponderous and turgid it would become.\nDon’t become locked into a project.
