      "title": "Orange is the New Red: Vandalism of GOP Headquarters by Supposed Anarchists",
      "body": "As a Gary Johnson voter, I’m witness to a neverending tribal war between the reds and the blues. I will soon vote across party lines down-ticket, but my vote for Governor of New York will go to the Libertarian candidate, [Larry Sharpe](https://www.larrysharpe.com/), while reds tell me that Marc Molinaro owns that vote.\n\nMost Libertarian drama is infighting over what constitutes a “Real Libertarian.” In New York, infighting has been replaced with heated debates with Republicans who insist that Larry is splitting the vote, particularly in the 2nd Amendment community. His supporters want the NY SAFE Act repealed, and his detractors say it can’t be done. Nicknamed the [UnSAFE Act](https://nyfirearms.com/forums/laws-politics-firearms-self-defense-weapons/90769-ny-unsafe-act-2-0-a.html) by gun-rights advocates, this legislation’s outcome has been the [prosecution of nonviolent people](https://reason.com/reasontv/2017/08/08/stossel-nyc-government-traumatizes-gun-o), including unwitting tourists declaring their noncompliant weapons at airports and leaving New York with fresh criminal records and hefty fines.\n\nLarry’s supporters don’t trust Molinaro on the 2nd Amendment, because his Lieutenant Governor, Julie Killian has been a vocal advocate for [expanding the SAFE Act](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7laHcSu1uE), and Molinaro himself has suggested that he would have kept parts of the SAFE Act that Governor Andrew Cuomo negotiated away. Presumably, Molinaro chose Killian to appeal to Democrats. Most New Yorkers vote blue, and a non-Democrat victory requires capturing votes from both sides, amid a vitriolic political climate. This theory was squashed when his campaign [publicized the vandalism of GOP Headquarters](https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/12/nyregion/gavin-mcinnes-republican-club-vandalized.html) in Manhattan, allegedly by AntiFa.\n\nIn the weeks leading up to the midterm elections, right-wing publications are pushing stories about the “[unhinged left](https://www.dailywire.com/news/37036/unhinged-mob-rnc-releases-brutal-ad-slamming-ryan-saavedra)” calling for violence. Maxine Waters said, “if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd.” Corey Booker said, “Get up in the face of some congresspeople.” Eric Holder told a crowd, \"When they go low, we kick them.\" And, Hillary Clinton said, \"You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for.\" Taken literally, such statements may invoke fear and anger in the Republican base.\n\nMost Democratic protesters have been peaceful, but some have crossed the line of “civility.” Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked to leave a restaurant. Candace Owens and Ted Cruz were confronted by crowds of protesters. Rand Paul survived a neighbor’s vicious attack, and a baseball game shooting. Combine this narrative with videos of AntiFa mobs attacking motorists and destroying property in Portland, and you have a wall high enough to block a “blue wave.” \n\nMolinaro capitalized on this narrative, as most of his previous press coverage was limited to local stories focused on Cuomo’s alleged corruption. On the night before Proud Boys founder, Gavin McInnes spoke at GOP headquarters, the facility was allegedly vandalized by protesters who tagged the doors with orange anarchy symbols, glued locks and broke windows. This story was immediately distributed to local and national media, including the New York Times. To the untrained eye, this vandalism was easily attributed to AntiFa, but one detail is striking to those who understand the many flavors of anarchy: why did they use orange paint?\n\n![anarchy-gop.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmWtu6Yn1NWf8s6RsZCEXAieM9RK9kaHxqgs95ALPSKX66/anarchy-gop.jpg)\n\nAs anarcho-communists, or “Ancoms,” [AntiFa’s colors are red and black](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antifa_(United_States)). It’s possible that the vandal could have been an AntiFa construction worker with orange paint left over from a job, or a Halloween enthusiast. These scenarios are unlikely when one considers that tagging the doors would best serve AntiFa’s interests if branded appropriately, in red.\n\nAnarcho-capitalists, or “Ancaps” are a small but vocal segment of the Libertarian Party and their colors are generally [yellow and black](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarcho-capitalism). They are property rights absolutists who adhere to the Non-Aggression Principle of libertarianism, ruling them out for this act. Anarcho-mutualists identify with [the color orange](https://www.quora.com/What-is-anarcho-mutualism), a combination of red and yellow. As communists and capitalists are diametrically opposed on property rights and free markets, this flavor of anarchy is practically nonexistent in New York City. Orange suggests that this was likely a false-flag event. \n\nThe greatest beneficiary is the Republican candidate who got national news coverage after it occurred. The Proud Boys could also benefit, but Gavin McInnes [thrives in fringe communities](http://proudboysusa.com/) and would likely get the details right. He would not have used orange paint, and the risk of having his speech cancelled would have been high. Conversely, an establishment candidate whose world consists of Republican insiders could easily miss this important detail. In fact, the only character in this story whose branding uses the color orange is Marc Molinaro.\n\nIt’s unlikely that Molinaro would have had direct knowledge of the specifics behind this vandalism if indeed it were carried out by his team. A good publicist or party operative would give him plausible deniability, while leaving a calling card, like campaign-orange paint. Under normal circumstances, this is tin foil hat material that you’d find on Alex Jones. But when self-described “[crazy motherfucker](https://www.nbc.com/access/video/kanye-west-hugs-president-trump-calls-himself-a-crazy-motherfer-in-bizarre-oval-office-meeting/3811186)” Kanye West can sit across from President Donald Trump in the Oval Office to talk policy on “Stop-and-Frisk,” while pundits call him a “[token negro](https://hiphopdx.com/news/id.48790/title.cnns-faces-backlash-after-panelist-calls-kanye-west-trumps-token-negro),” anything is possible. \n\nBetween trading blows with Cuomo on who’s more corrupt, Molinaro delves into absurdity for press coverage. This began with publishing an angry Twitter video after Cuomo named his wife in an attack ad. Fast forward to September 23rd and Molinaro published the sparse one-page website, [cuomoleaks.com](https://nypost.com/2018/09/23/molinaro-unveils-website-seeking-dirt-on-cuomo/). In a dramatic turn of events, the Dutchess County Democratic Committee allegedly planned to punch back with [MolinarosShadyDeals.com](http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/sns-bc-ny--2018-election-new-york-governor-20181001-story.html) on October 2nd. Molinaro was the hero of this story, where the plan was thwarted by his operatives who snagged the domain name before the website was published. Since then, no known attempt has been made by the Democratic organization to publish their website under another name. Ten days later and just a few weeks before the election, Molinaro’s campaign is [reportedly broke](https://nypost.com/2018/10/08/molinaros-campaign-running-out-of-cash-heading-into-election/), and here we are with campaign-orange “vandalism.”\n\nThe above text is entirely speculative, and video has come out of the vandals, though their identities are completely hidden. It may well have been AntiFa who vandalized GOP headquarters, and like every crisis, the team quickly took advantage.\n\nIn a diverse, yet broken state like New York, these tribal games where vandalism is blamed on “crazy leftists” won’t heal us, but Larry Sharpe says he has the solution. His libertarian stance on regulating cannabis “[like onions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu_r6ly3HWA)” and his support for gay marriage appeal to the left, while his plan to [eliminate tolls](https://www.syracuse.com/politics/index.ssf/2018/09/staples_bridge_libertarian_gov_candidate_says_lets_lease_naming_rights_on_state.html) by leasing naming rights on bridges and tunnels appeals to the right, as sponsors bid for the prize of hundreds of daily mentions in traffic reports. He wants to bring business back to New York, including new money from blockchain companies that left in droves when Cuomo enacted BitLicense in 2014. Larry’s biggest idea is for New Yorkers to be as liberal or as conservative as they want to be, as long as they don’t force their will on others. He says, “Republicans want to be your father, they want to protect you. Democrats want to be your mother, they want to take care of you. I want to be your brother. You love me, but you don’t want to live with me, and when you need me, I’m there.”\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tu_r6ly3HWA\n\nOther third-party contenders are Green Party candidate, Howie Hawkins, and the former Democrat and Mayor of Syracuse, Stephanie Miner, now representing the Serve America Movement. They also bring a message of healing to New York, and may capture votes from disgruntled Democrats, such as Cynthia Nixon supporters. However, both candidates are so far to the left that they won’t appeal to conservative voters, such as those who dominate Upstate New York.\n\nAccording to Google Trends, Larry Sharpe and Marc Molinaro are [neck and neck in search volume](https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?date=today%201-m&geo=US-NY&q=stephanie%20miner,marc%20molinaro,larry%20sharpe,howie%20hawkins) at the state level. Cuomo is in a league of his own, while Hawkins and Miner are barely on the map. Cuomo said, “America was never great,” This gaff, and other bad press may fuel his popularity on Google, for the wrong reasons. If this is true, then a non-Democrat could beat him. If that candidate is Larry Sharpe, then the Mario Cuomo Bridge will be renamed in a bidding war between sponsors. If Marc Molinaro wins, then it’s business as usual, and some possible tax cuts. Who’s the best choice for New York State? The only way to know that is to get all five of them into a room for a spirited debate.\n\nWhile the duopoly has tried to shut third parties out of the debates, the [NY chapter of the League of Women Voters](https://my.lwv.org/new-york-state) will hold perhaps the only open debate of the election season, here in New York on November 1, 2018. Every candidate other than Cuomo has accepted. When I think about the stranglehold that the duopoly has on our society, I am reminded of the words of John Adams, 2nd President and Founding Father of the United States. \"There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.\"",

      "body": "Thanks, I don't know much about Uruguay but I looked into Chile a few years ago, but extended family obligations keep me here. In my case, I have to work around the fact that my choices are limited.  I'm pretty sure there's an expat community in Chile, but it may not be as free as you'd like. I think their tax rate is 35-41%, plus the usual hidden tax of 3% inflation. Gun permits seem okay, though once you own more than two, I believe you're supposed to get a \"sportsman's license\" for $400 per year. I'm not sure where they stand on free speech - their constitution seems to guarantee it, but I read an article in the Economist from 2001 stating that they are restrictive. The murder rate's lower than in the US and they seem to be good on property rights.",

      "body": "Nice read I agree with most of it but I myself saving up and investing in Crypto am planning on leaving the United States when I'm able too probably somewhere in South America like Chile or Uruguay. I see the US becoming more authoritarian each year and even with a growing liberty movement we are vastly outnumbered I hope I'm wrong but in the meantime I'm looking for better pasture to put my family and self in.",

      "body": "By the year 1788, there were [eleven states](https://www.infoplease.com/history-and-government/us-history/states-order-entry-union) in the Union, and 3.7 million citizens in the United States. Prior to that, most of those states had been settled for over 100 years, with Virginia having been settled in 1607. By 1861, the population had grown to 32 million citizens and approximately 34 states, and we already found ourselves amidst the American Civil War. In 2018, there are 50 states, several territories and nearly 327 million citizens. While these numbers might suggest that the path to freedom will be an arduous journey, there are many ways to help the cause, such as crypto-agorism.\n\nBlemishes on American history such as slavery aside, the fact remains that at 10% of today's population and fewer states, our problems were so great that the way we settled our differences was through four years of violence. It is truly astonishing that the United States has remained intact for over 150 years since the Civil War. The country is deeply divided and every 4 to 8 years, half of the country is driven by anger and sadness, while the other half of the country enjoys their reign over the losers, thanks to the flawed concepts of a representative republic and democracy. Perhaps this timeframe of 4-8 years is just short of the tipping point that leads to civil war. By the time the losing half of the country is ready to take up arms against their perceived oppressors, it's election time again, and the roles are reversed. But one thing has been consistent throughout the history of the United States. Regardless of who wins an election, whether it's a Democrat or a Republican, government keeps growing. Entitlements increase. Military spending increases. More laws are written. More regulations are written. More lobbyists convince politicians to subsidize their industries. Taxes go up. Debt goes up. On paper, some of us own property and yet we pay rent to the state every year. Meanwhile, we pay into failing systems, put in place by corrupt politicians to the benefit of their cronies. We are arrested, fined and imprisoned for victimless crimes, and we are witnessing police brutality that serves no purpose other than to keep the population under the control of the state.\n\nIt's time to take back your freedom. It's time to fight for liberty. It's time to reverse the government's use of force over freedom-loving, peaceful people. It's time to take back America, and there are many ways to participate. I'll discuss crypto-agorism, but first it's important to identify other methods of getting closer to our goal, and some of their associated risks.\n\nDepending on your risk tolerance, you have a number of options. At the political level, you can support liberty-minded candidates in the [Libertarian Party](https://www.lp.org/), or even in the [Liberty Caucus](http://rlc.org/).  If you're a purist, neither of these options will get you what you want. However they may lead either a pause in the growth of government, or incrementally more freedom, lower taxes and less foreign intervention. Most likely, support for liberty movements will raise awareness, which in turn will help to recruit people to the cause. This is the easiest, safest method of freedom fighting that can be done. The risks are low and there are several benefits. Even if you are a hardcore ancap who rejects government, it costs you nothing to press a few buttons every couple of years, and doing so will grant you an audience with those who might not otherwise hear your message.\n\nhttps://youtu.be/8s18y0xkrXQ\n\nAt a more extreme level, you could theoretically withdraw entirely from the economy. You could work for cash, live in a trailer and probably live at just above the poverty level while you exercise your natural rights. You might be able to get away with it if you're operating at a very small scale, and you're not engaging in what the state perceives to be major criminal activity. But you might be putting yourself at risk if you're doing anything to put yourself on the radar.\n\nAt the most extreme level, you could be prepping for a violent revolution. This is probably not a course of action that will lead to a good outcome for most people. In recent history, the [Occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occupation_of_the_Malheur_National_Wildlife_Refuge) lasted about 40 days and consisted of a few dozen ranchers and their friends. While I support the Bundies in their right to protest the Bureau of Land Management and other agencies in their questionable and sometimes abusive policies, it was foolish to think that an occupation of a nature preserve by a few dozen guys on horseback would have a positive outcome. Arrests were made, people were prosecuted, fines were levied and one person died. While their statement was bold, the press did not paint them as heroes, but rather as a bunch of right-wing extremists on the lunatic fringe. Whether that was true or not is completely irrelevant. Perception is everything, and in my view, while the occupation may have energized people who already supported them, it did nothing to recruit people to the cause of liberty. It was first practiced and defined by Samuel Edward Konkin III in 1975 as a way to minimize what a person contributes to the state in the form of taxes, license fees and other methods that the state uses to take the fruits of your labor, without your permission, at the point of a gun.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMUxsQjfZKo\n\nYou will need to research your local laws to understand any potential risks with agorism, but the main takeaway is that it may be blended with \"normal\" living. You can have a regular job, and get paid a regular paycheck, in regular fiat currency, and you can pay taxes on those earnings. You can simultaneously find or organize a syndicate of like-minded people with whom you may trade, conduct business or otherwise interact with in a way that is completely separate. As your community grows, you will have more power to organize and recruit others to the cause.\n\nWith the advent of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, a new form of agorism, sometimes referred to as crypto-agorism, or crypto-anarchy is now possible. You now have the ability to trade using non-fiat assets that can retain their value over time. Rather than trying to figure out how many cucumbers are equivalent to a freshly knit sweater, you can just price the item in digital currency and conduct business in a way that is very similar to traditional means.\n\nWhile Bitcoin is the most popular digital coin, due to its being first-to-market, there are better options. First, Bitcoin is not completely anonymous. The blockchain stores meta information about each transaction that can be used to identify your wallet, you and the people you have transacted with. Second, Bitcoin transactions are more expensive than most other digital currencies, though this is becoming less of a problem with the implementation of the Lightning Network, which creates a sort of digital checking account system to reduce costs.\n\nTo fulfill your goals as an agorist who engages in some degree of anarcho capitalism, I would suggest taking a look at privacy coins like [Monero](https://getmonero.org/). You will have an added layer of privacy to protect your identity, and you will pay lower fees on your transactions. Do keep in mind however, that you need to do your own research on any legal risks associated with such transactions. Many countries have certain AML (Anti Money Laundering) laws and systems in place, as well as tax laws that may apply to digital assets, whether they're classified as property or securities. If your activities are not 100% compliant with the law, then you are putting yourself at risk to some degree, and you need to be aware of the possible consequences, which could include fines and/or incarceration. The reality is that if you're selling a few cucumbers each week for a bit of crypto, you're probably not worth anyone's time to investigate. However, if you're operating at scale, or if you are targeted for some reason, then you may face a great deal of risk. To cite a well-known example, Ross William Ulbricht, the founder of [Silk Road](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silk_Road_(marketplace)), had his business shut down by the FBI in 2013, and he was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. His \"crime\" was to create a platform that facilitated trade between individuals without policing them on the legality of their activities. This was the digital equivalent of a real estate developer being prosecuted for putting up a building in which people engage in activities that are banned by the state.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DQb0cMvU7I\n\nThe risks associated with crypto-agorism will also depend on how trustworthy your network is. If you've got five, or twenty, or a hundred people in your syndicate, then you had better make sure that they have all been vetted as trustworthy people who get along with one another. All it takes is one person with a grudge to cause problems for the group, and nobody needs that.\n\nAlso, keep in mind that there are different kinds of agorists. I would support an agorist group that believes in free markets, and the interactions would likely be the most rewarding, as prices are determined by what the market will bear. However, there are also communists who consider themselves to be agorists. That's their choice, and in a truly libertarian society, they would have a right to exist, so long as their community is voluntary and doesn't force others to comply with their controls over labor and private property rights. But the point is that their philosophy may not be compatible with that of someone who does believe in private property, and the freedom for an employer and a worker to exchange labor for wages at an agreed upon price.\n\nIn my view, agorism is not tremendously scalable without taking on a lot of risk. However on a small scale, it can be a productive way to engage in civil disobedience while making friends with like-minded individuals, and sorting out more significant ideas that can produce good outcomes.
