Who you were with? What the weather was like? What you were wearing?\n You can think about what you were thinking about, feel how you were feeling and smell what you were smelling, perhaps even more vividly than before. Every detail from that moment, however inconsequential, is etched perfectly into your brain, to be relived at a moments notice.  \n\nI can still remember the stench of that classroom as if I was still sat 2 rows from the back, still hungover from the night before, and wishing I could go back to sleep. My lecturer was a jaded character and would (as his job implies) lecture us on the pitfalls of the finance industry. As a finance student focused only on the ludicrous salary I would earn in 4 years, I would often zone out during these points. But for whatever reason, this time was different. I noticed his usually dreary demeanour transform into an animate and lively one. This sparked my interest. What could possibly inspire so much passion from an individual so disinterested in his job? \n\nHe went to his computer, opened a powerpoint presentation from a folder that he had never used before (what I would pay for the other files in this folder…)  called “the future of money”\n\n“This, boys and girls, is ‘the Future of Money’”. You could tell he’d been planning this moment for quite some time. As if his constant bashing of the finance industry was to provoke us to ask “So, what can we do about it?”\n\n![e90fcfba6be768481949f28381063717.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmUSisNcmaX2Zk4sqVnCGT1Hxe9T9FPd7jdwsdRNTDDsej/e90fcfba6be768481949f28381063717.jpg)\n\nWhat proceeded was the most riveting hour of my education so far (we’re all still learning, right?). I could recite what he said practically verbatim, but I shan’t because you already know its contents. \nNowadays, there’s a lot of negative associations with Bitcoin, but this was nearly 2 years ago. Back then, Bitcoin meant something. It was not a pissing contest between rival ‘communities’. To own bitcoin meant you were part something bigger. To own bitcoin was an act of defiance, a middle finger to the establishment, not another coin. \n\nWe have lost sight of what is important.\n\nThere is an old joke that I would like to tell and although the punchline may not be relevant, the message is. \n‘A banker, a worker, and an immigrant are sitting at a table with 20 cookies. ‘The banker takes 19 cookies and warns the worker: “Watch out, the immigrant is going to take your cookie away.”’\n\nWe have been manipulated by the powers that be to fight amongst ourselves. Ask yourselves who benefits from the fragmentation of this community? It sure as shit isn’t us",

      "body": "So I guess i should start from the beginning. Growing up, I never really knew what i wanted to be...i just new that i wanted to be rich. Looking from the outside in, rich people had it good. They drove fast cars and fucked pornstars on mattresses of money. I used to judge people's worth on the car they drove, the neighborhood they lived in and how hot their wife/ husband was. \n\nFully believing the constraints of society, i set off to university to study finance with dreams of living like the models in magazines (you know the one)\n![date-rich-men.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeHVa8wbkuhho78pAkJR2RCzwd27P5u1zqceWhZis1Un8/date-rich-men.jpg)\n\nThis is where i met one of my lecturers who has possibly had the biggest impact on my life so far. He wasn't old, but he wasn't young. He had a beard that was beginning to grey and had a little extra weight on him. In 10 years, he could have an extremely lucrative career as Father Christmas. \n\nHe was an ex- city( Wall Street, for the Americans amongst you) veteran who had left swiftly following the proverbial shit hitting the proverbial fan in 2008. \n\nNow you could tell this guy had seen some shit. When he spoke of the financial system, he spoke with an expression on his face that i can only best describe as a mixture of disdain and guilt. His teaching style, rather than encouragment to pursue  a career in Finance, was more of an injunction - a warning. I always got the impression that he hated teaching, but felt compelled so as to atone for his sins as a banker and to ensure the next generation did not make the same mistakes his did. \n\nIn his first lecture, he described the ways in which banks literally create money out of thin air. Think that a bank needs to own money to lend it to you? WRONG. The money that you loaned from the bank did not exist until the moment it was put into your account.
