      "body": "@captainamazing I know what you mean about these small dogs barking at big dogs. It can get pretty frightening. One way I discovered to make sure you're alpha to your dog is to play tug of war and make sure to win. If you lose, the dog thinks he's alpha and then gets more aggressive until you start winning again. At least, that's how it was with my dog. He's not a Yorkie, though.",

Such excellence, however, can become pretty annoying when Yorkies start barking at anything and everything that looks even remotely suspicious.\n\nYou might be surprised that such a small dog breed could make so much noise. Not too mention, your family members and neighbors probably won’t appreciate being kept up at night.\n\n## Determine the Cause\n\n\nKeep in mind that all dogs except for the Basenji breed use barking as a form of communication, so complete cessation of barking is probably not realistic. The first step then for pet owners is to determine the cause of the inappropriate behavior in the first place. When the cause has been clearly identified, the proper corrective actions can then be taken.\n\nDogs bark for a number of reasons including:\n\n•\t**Intruder Alert** - This is a valid response from a Yorkie and, thus, must not be curbed by the pet owner except under certain circumstances. \n\n•\t**Separation Anxiety** - Yorkies are affectionate companions that require plenty of attention from their humans. Separations can be hard on their psyche. \n\n•\t**Illness and Injury** - Barking is a form of communicating to others the pain due to an illness or an injury. \n\n•\t**Boredom** - Yorkies are active animals that can easily become bored when left alone with no toys or no other dogs to play with. Barking can become a sort of entertainment for the restless pooch. \n\n•\t**Aggression** – This can be dangerous when the Yorkies are up against a much bigger breed. (Yorkies are brave dogs, which makes them oblivious to their own small sizes.) Aggression can also be directed at the owners, which is a serious concern that might require specialized help from an animal behaviorist trained in aggression.\n\nIt must also be noted that the Yorkshire's excessive barking can be a combination of many factors. For example, a Yorkie may bark because of a combination of separation anxiety and boredom. They may experience different motivating factors at different times of the day, for instance.\n\n## Take the Proper Corrective Actions\n\nFirst, check your dog’s area to determine if there is a valid cause for the warning. If there is none, say \"Quiet\" in a firm voice. If there is good reason, call the police. \n\nBut it may just be the mailman, the neighborhood kid, or the dog next door passing by the house as the cause for the excessive barking. In this case, provide the Yorkie with more socialization opportunities to accustom it to the neighborhood sights and sounds. Play dates, walks in the park, and other social activities will greatly help to curb the Yorkie's suspicious nature.\n\nSecond, separation anxiety can be remedied with ensuring that your departures are done with little to no fanfare. Don't announce your departure with a grand exit or get carried away by your dog’s mournful yapping. \n\nGradually accustom your pet to your absence by extending the time spent away from it - 5 minutes away, then come back for 5 minutes, and then spend another 10 minutes away and so on. Spend more time with your pet during your free days by playing, grooming, and training it.\n\nThird, check the Yorkie's head, body, and fur to rule out illnesses and injuries. If anything suspicious is found, seek a veterinarian's opinion immediately. (Even if you find no sign of illness, a trip to the vet is still recommended for unexplained aggression.)\n\nFourth, you can conquer boredom in a Yorkie by increasing playtime. Give the dog a sufficient number of safe and stimulating toys like chew balls and bones. Play with the dog to satisfy its need for playtime, which also doubles as exercise. \n\nFifth, aggression barking against the Yorkie's owner can best be curbed by respect training. Basically, it involves teaching the Yorkie that its owner is the leader of the pack and must be respected as such at all times. Clear commands including \"No\", \"Stop\", and \"Quiet\" to stop the unnecessary barking must be given in a firm voice.\n\nIt will take patience before anti-bark training yields the desired results. My Name is Captain Amazing, and I’m here to share my boundless wisdom, wit, and occasional foolishness with the internet world.\n\nIf you watched the movie Mystery Men during the late 90s, then you already know my tragic but hilarious story. I worked tirelessly to rid the world’s greatest city from all manner of villains and thuggery, one bad guy at a time.  Finally, having vanquished all my enemies in Champion City, I stood as a beacon of freedom and justice for all to celebrate. \n\nCrowds loved me. Women swooned over me. Manly men frowned and grunted because they secretly envied me. Children sang songs about me and asked for my dolls as birthday presents.\nI’m told that even Charles Bronson and Chuck Norris cried when hearing my name sung in the streets, because in their deepest heart of hearts they knew that I would always be the better hero.\n\nMany years later, both Barack Obama and Donald Trump would cite me as major inspirations for their historic victories. (Seriously, did you not actually listen to their inaugural speeches? What, no? Man, you people are lazy.)\n\nAnyway, back to my story.\n\nI soon grew restless of this more peaceful life where crime-fighting just wasn’t needed anymore. Rumor had it that my public image had declined, so I knew I needed to take desperate action. That’s when I made one of the all-time blunders in the world of imaginative literature:\n\nI let Casanova Frankenstein out.\n\nThat’s right, my greatest adversary was safely locked up in some kind of mental hospital/asylum/prison/fantasy jail type of thing, and for some stupid reason, I just let him out.\n\nYeah, I know. Pretty dumb.\n\nAt the time, I blamed my agent (what, you didn’t know superheroes had public relations and business staff?), but now I know better. Truth be told, I had just gotten bored of working in a city that had no crime, so I let my nemesis out of jail so I could have one last super battle with all of the glamor and praise that went with it! (Oh yeah, and that justice thing, or something.)\n\nAs punishment for my abominable crime, Casanova captured me and tied me up in front of this totally awesome weapon I wish I had thought of myself. Then, this group of fake superhero wannabes tried to rescue me, but they accidentally set the darn weapon off and burned me to a crisp. Sadly, Captain Amazing’s life had come to an end. (Or so they thought.)\n\nThe real story is pretty simple, really. My years of living off fast food and microwaved tv dinners, as well as siphoning gasoline by mouth despite the warning labels, had completely transformed my DNA and allowed my body to regenerate itself. \n\nSo, I just walked away while no one was looking, much like the young Invisible Boy, and I embarked on a new life of peaceful introspection and daily blogging.\n\nSo here I am – a former crimefighter now becomes a blogger at Steemit! It’s amazing how life can turn out.\nSo, besides my former celebrity life, what else is there to know about me? Well, let’s see. I love science fiction (obviously), as well as baseball, soccer, writing, learning languages, history, literature, biology, and golden retrievers. \n\nLet’s see, what else…\n\nMy English teacher taught me to always use a comma in a series right before the conjunction, which has apparently become oh, so passé. Will I change with the times? I don’t know. These kind of soul-wrenching, life-altering, and bowel-inflaming decisions take time, you know. (Oops, there’s that comma before the and again.)\n\nMy own thinking is that the whole comma thing is part of a vast Communist conspiracy, but then I just re-watched the original Red Dawn and Patrick Swayze can be pretty convincing, so who knows.\n\nHow about some pet peeves...\n\nIf you are American like me, then I oppose your British-like pronunciation of words that end in “ile,” like juvenile, docile, and missile. I almost passed out the other day when I heard an American radio host say “miss-I’ll.” I admit pronouncing infantile without the ”I’ll” sounds awkward at first, but that’s only because the Redcoats have come so far in infiltrating the colonies. Sometimes, when I lay awake at night, I can see George Washington’s tears.\n(By the way, he occasionally speaks to me, so I know for a fact he didn’t pronounce it this way.)\n\nNow, if you live on the other side of the Pond, it’s cool. In fact,   *you’re* cool. Long live the Queen and all that. I’m sure there are millions of Americans like me who pretend to be better than you but secretly want to be you, or at least talk like you. After all, sophisticated British accents (no, not the Cockney ones) can be so dreamy. Who wouldn’t want to talk like Doc Martin, for instance? But we can’t, so we don’t, and we’ll just have to live with it. That’s life.\n\nOne more pet peeve: if you don't like puppies or chocolate chip cookies, then you're a monster. There, I said it.\n\nOkay, I’ve gotten off topic. The point is I’m here on Steemit, and I’ll be writing regularly. So stay tuned!\n\nWell, I guess that it’s it for now. Cheerio.",
