| body | Recently I had the privilege of attending at networking event where Benjamin Hardy was a guest speaker. Ben is the #1 writer on medium.com (and all around great dude). Ben talked about how he went from zero to over 300k email subscribers in just a couple years. I want to share some wisdom nuggets for the other bloggers here to help you grow your business. And increase your voice and presence online. And add some **$$$** to your bank account. Cool? Bypassing the obvious, you need to produce good content. If you’re not adding value to your readers, none of the below matters. **What do people want? Make your writing about that.** In *The Science of Getting Rich* Wallace D. Wattles writes, “*Give more in use value than you take in cash value. Then you are adding to the life of the world by every business transaction.*” My biggest “*a-ha*” moment from Ben’s talk was this. > “*There’s never going to be the same audience on the Internet twice.*” Let me explain why this matters. And why it’s so powerful for your growth (and income) as a writer / blogger. # The Power of Republishing How long have you been blogging? Does your website have an archive full of great posts sitting in a black hole of the Internet never to be read again? **Tip#1a -- Republish them!** “*But people have already read it*” So? Maybe 100, or 1,000 or 10,000 people read it. But that was a month or year ago. Republish it. That same segment of people (your mom, notwithstanding) might not be on the Internet to see it when you repost it. And, if they are, most likely they aren’t going to remember it anyway. Do you remember the blog posts you read a month ago? Exactly. **Tip#1b -- When you republish, use a new (better) headline.** The most important line of your blog post is the headline. If your headline sucks, no one is going to read the article. Regardless of how good it might be. **You are doing your audience a disservice when you use a bad headline.** You might have life-changing content inside the article itself. But if the headline doesn’t solicit a read, they miss out. Use a new headline. And split test to see how well it does so you have data for when you republish it again 30-60 days from now with another new (and improved) headline. Here’s another reason why republishing is so powerful. We all get writer’s block. Some days we just don’t have *it*. And some days we might be sick, on vacation, or simply can’t pull ourselves away from a good ole fashioned Netflix bender. Republishing old articles is a quick and easy way to keep you relevant. Keep you FOMA. Front of Mind Awareness to your audience. Whether you’re posting daily, once a week or three times a week. This strategy works. You can literally spend 5 minutes grabbing an old blog post. Copy and paste it into a new blog post with a new headline. Hit publish. Easy day’s worth of work, no? Now, if you’re anything like me, you might go back and re-read some of your old blog posts and want to rip your eyes out because of how bad it is. In this case, it will be worth your while to spend a little more time editing before you republish with your new headline. But you still have the guts of a good article that warranted your time and energy to write in the first place. And when you republish it again 30-60-90 days from now, you likely will have improved as a writer so you may want to edit again. Remember… > “*There’s never going to be the same audience on the Internet twice.*” This should go without saying. But you want to continue writing new, relevant content for your audience. And building up your archive of posts to republish again in the future. Once you have written 30 posts, there’s no reason for you not to have a new article online every single day. As as that post number increases, you’ll just be republishing the same article less frequently. Or just weeding out the ones that don’t perform as well. Get your 30 best and systematically just keep them on a republishing loop. Always improving the headline. # How to track your posts for maximum ROI Create a sheet in your Google Sheets. Each time you republish an article, track the data. How many views did it get? How many link clicks? (we’ll get there in a minute). How many shares? How many email subscribers? Next time you republish that same article with the new headline, look at the data. Was it better or worse in the metrics you’re tracking? Continue doing this until you find a headline that crushes it. Then you can keep reposting with the same headline because you know it converts. # Okay, but how do I make money? At the bottom of each of your posts, have a clear CTA (call to action).  Clicking that link would take you here ==> https://go.benjaminhardy.com/optin-16784469 Now, landing pages and sales funnels are outside the scope of this post. If you have questions around that, you can ask me directly. Or perhaps I’ll do that in another post. But you want to capture the reader's email address. The money is in the email address. Not only can you keep republishing old articles on different platforms every day, but you can also set up email autoresponders to send those blog posts to your email list. If someone likes an article you post today and joins your email list, they didn’t know you before today. Or your work. So your autoresponder email sequence can start sending them daily blog posts that you’ve written in the past. Now you’re delivering top notch content - that’s *new* to them - directly into their inbox daily. Without actually doing any work. By doing this you’re building the “*KLT*” factor. You’re getting the email subscriber to know, love and trust you. When someone knows, loves and trusts you, they are more likely to buy from you in the future. # Okay, but how do I make money? Ben suggests we turn our best blog posts into products. Perhaps you have an info product. Or an idea for one. You can occasionally pitch this to your email list *after* you’ve delivered enough value on the front end. But let’s say you don’t have a product. Or even an idea of what you could create that people would be willing to pull out their credit cards and pay for. Look at your Google Sheet and see which posts performed best. You can turn these posts into products. As an example, Ben often writes about the importance of journaling. And having a morning routine and getting into a peak state to do your best work. He turned all these posts into a Journal Mastery course for $27. Non-affiliate aside, I *HIGHLY* recommend that course. # Wrapping Up, or the tl;dr version 1. Add value. Write content that people need. Nothing else matters if you try to shortcut this step. 2. Republish old posts with new headlines. Always split testing headlines until you find winners. 3. Know your numbers. Track your posts and the number of views, comments, shares, opt-ins. 4. Create a product from your best posts that you can pitch to your email list *after* you’ve built the KLT factor. And one final note on republishing. Republish everywhere. If you are posting on your blog and don’t have a large following, republish on different platforms. Post on Medium, Quora, FB. | body | # “*Just do it*” I grew up loving and wearing Nike in the 90s as much as any other kid. Especially since they endorsed the greatest NBA competitor of all time. His Airness, Michael Jordan.  As I fat loss coach, I often find myself surrounded by conversations discussing exercise and nutrition. You know how when you buy a Dodge Durango, all the sudden you see every other Durango on the road? There’s a great video on YouTube called “*The Invisible Gorilla Experiment*.” Basically the video asks you to count how many basketball passes are made amongst a group of people that are moving around in circles passing the balls back and forth. And while this is happening, a person dressed as a gorilla walks through the middle of the game. Almost everyone guesses the correct number of passes. But almost no one sees the gorilla. **We only see what we try to see. And we only hear what we try to hear.** Point being: maybe these conversations are happening everywhere, all the time. And I notice them because health and fitness is always front of mind for me. This is also called FOMA, or Front of Mind Awareness. Not to be confused with FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out. Something I always overhear in conversation among people discussing diet or exercise. One party always tells the other to *just do it*. Unsure about starting that new fitness plan from your magazine? *Just do it*. Unsure about starting that new diet your friend is doing? *Just do it*. Tim Pychyl is one of the leading authorities on the science of conquering procrastination. He talks about this theory in his book, *Solving the Procrastination Puzzle*. It’s a concise, practical guide on key strategies to help reduce procrastination in your life. How often do we procrastinate when it comes to pretty much anything involving our health or losing fat? *I found a new program I want to do… I’ll start Monday.* *I need to go on a diet… I’ll start Monday.* *I’ll join the gym… after the Holidays.* We procrastinate (look for excuses) rather than… just doing it. Tim argues in his book that “*just do it*” might sound cool. But it’s not a good motivation tactic. Especially when the person is overwhelmed, and likely doubtful, about being able to *do it* in the first place. You want to start P90X? But 6 workouts per week for 90 days is intimidating. Especially for someone that’s never worked out before. > Telling an obese person wanting to shed some pounds to *just do it* is like telling an alcoholic needing recovery to *just do it*. It’s not that simple. If all you had to do was *just do it*, everyone would have already *done it*. *It* being the thing they need to do. # So what should we say instead? Perhaps a better slogan as it pertains to diet and exercise is “*just get started*.” Don’t worry about whether or not you actually finish. Just get started. And your odds of finishing will be much higher. Because once you start something, it’s much easier to keep going. On mornings when I don’t feel inspired to write, the thought of trying to vomit 1000 words onto my computer screen feels more daunting than climbing Everest. When you have no motivation to get in a tough workout, the idea of sweating for 45 minutes sounds worse than a crypto market correction. But if all you did was *just get started*, you’d rally Team Momentum on your side and finishing would be much easier. I’ve heard this referred to as the “*5 minute ramp up.*” Lacking motivation to… * Workout * Write * Clean your room * Meditate * Pay the bills ...Just do 5 minutes. Then let momentum take over. The hardest part of working out is just getting yourself *to* the gym. Once you’re there, it’s easy. So the next time you find yourself in a conversation with someone who is seeking your wisdom on how they should proceed with the task at hand, suggest they *just get started*. --Brian |

| title | Why You Should Care More About What’s in Your Pantry Than What’s in Your Closet |
| body | # Decision fatigue. It’s real. If you spend two minutes per day deciding what to wear that adds up to 12 hours per year. Not a lot, in and of itself. But think about all the other little decisions you make each day that take time and add up over the course of the day, week, month, year. *What should I have for breakfast today?* *I know I should just have a protein shake.* *But I forgot Corey was bringing donuts to the office since it was Tuesday.* *Ugh but if I eat a donut I’ll feel bad afterward.* *Maybe I’ll just stop for a coffee instead.* ^How many times each day do you have a similar dialogue in your head? If “*shit ton*” was a metric, that would be my answer. Let’s take a quick look at some of our greatest thought leaders. Einstein. He always wore the same sweater. He had better things to do than decide what he was going to wear that day. Like developing the Theory of Relativity. And winning a Nobel Prize. Steve Jobs. He always wore that black turtleneck. Thank goodness those aren’t in style anymore. And thank goodness for the iPhone. Obama. He was quoted saying he only wears gray and blue because he has too many other important decisions to make in a day rather than worrying about what he’s wearing. Mark Zuckerberg. If you follow Zucks at all, you’ve likely seen this picture of his closet.  I’ve seen him in person one time. He was wearing that exact thing. Gray shirt, hoodie, jeans and sneakers. He spends his time creating a platform online that currently has two billion users. Imagine how many different outfits he could own if that’s what he chose to do. It would be a huge waste of time - and a disservice to the industry - if he spent brain power each day picking out something different to wedecision-making upper limit to the number of decisions you can make each day. At some point your decision making muscles get tired. So you begin to make poorer decisions. # Scenario. It’s 730pm. You’ve been at the office since 730am. You’re tired. Exhausted. Know you need to get to the gym. Or at the very least go home and cook something healthy for dinner. But what would you make? F- it. Stop for fast food on the way home. That’s an example of decision-making muscles getting tired after a long day. It happens to all of us. **This is why systems are so important.** Think back to the leaders we mentioned above. The most creative among us are the most boring in every other aspect of their lives. If you are trying to lose fat, this is how you should think about your diet. Most people, while well-intentioned, overcomplicate things. They try to make egg white omelets for breakfast. A homemade paleo chili for lunch. Then a fish stir fry for dinner. And each day they feel the need to change it up. Because they don’t want to eat the same thing all the time. And because they are self-proclaimed “*foodies.*” > The most creative among us are the most boring in every other aspect of their lives. The most successful dieters are the most boring when it comes to the foods they eat. They find a few “*Go-To’s*” that they know: * Taste good * Are low in calorie * Are easy to make Breakfast everyday is mostly the same. With 2-3 different variations. Same with lunch. This works so well for two reasons. One, this frees them up to live a little vicariously at dinner. They have a pretty good guess at home many calories they’ve had in the day with their *Go-To’s* at breakfast and lunch. Now they free themselves up to eat something different for dinner each night. Two, because they are boring (automate decisions earlier in the day), they have decision-willpower to make sensible decisions at dinner. They aren’t brain dead and pulling through fast food lines like a zombie. In *Essentialism*, Greg Mckeown tells us to make a decision once so you don’t need to make it 1000 times.  Going back to the first example of this post. If you spend two minutes per day deciding what to wear, that adds up to 12 hours per year. One decision is technically not a big deal. But add up all the times you make decisions on things you could have put on auto pilot. Instead of “*What am I going to have for breakfast today?*” You make the decision on the front end. “*I have protein shakes for breakfast.*” Done. Decision made. It’s settled. You made the decision **once**. Breakfast is a protein shake. Now there’s no need to use your decision making muscles to figure out what’s to have. Instead of “*Am I going to meditate this morning?*” Make the decision once so it’s done. “*I meditate every morning for 5-10 minutes.*” When you wake up tomorrow morning, you don’t decide whether or not you’re going to meditate. You do it because the decision has already been made. Now what I want you to do is take note of all the little decisions you make every single day. All those little decisions that, in the grand scheme of things, don’t really matter. Make a decision about each of them, *once*. Especially if you are wanting to - or trying to - lose fat. Don’t overcompliate things. **Be boring**. Find a few low calorie, easy to make meals that taste good. Make these your *Go-To’s*.
