      "body": "I must first apologize for the late response to my previous article. Life has its way of taking you on it's course. Regardless, let's get back to the mass adoption conversation. \n\nThis past week I had to chance to do a lot of talking to non-crypto users at Denver Startup Week, and it really solidified what I've been trying to make a point of. That point being that the average consumer (in the United States) has not reached a motivation-to-barrier factor that moves them to enter the ecosystem. The motivation was high when crypto was booming last year and early this year, but that motivation has fallen and we've not done a good job, as an industry, at presenting other motivating factors beyond the price and the buzz in the media. The blockchain platforms that will change the financial workings of the world or revolutionize our healthcare, logistics, and commerce sectors are in the works and they will do wonderful things for industries, business and consumers alike, but these are not the platforms that will truly unlock the power of blockchain and crypto for the masses.\n\nIn modern society, our currencies tend to be defined for us, then thrust upon us to use. Now, for the first time ever, we have the opportunity to define our currencies in whatever way we like. We now have the technology to create our own vehicles of value and create actual value around them with the economies that we create for them. The ICO boom was a beautiful (and slightly tragic) exploration of how an idea can be tokenized and what the market value of that idea could be, but there was a lot to be desired of that boom. \n\n![ICOlast8months.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVNqaYDvKFmHv6Cc2xdACEipuonqUZYYJoDPxwVj4UVFw/ICOlast8months.png)\n\nWhat I've seen as the two biggest barriers to consumer mass adoption, besides scalability, are education and trust. Education about what exactly they need to do to safely engage with the crypto ecosystem, and the trust that the platforms and service providers are working in the consumers best interest.  And these two can be solved together by taking a \"give first\" approach. The ability to create opportunities for users to earn via microtasks is one of the incredibly powerful features of crypto, and if we are going to incentivize an action why not incentivize the learning of skills and knowledge that allow people to take advantage of the benefits of blockchain and crypto. There's actually an incredible amount of wealth that can be generated when you focus on empowering users first, as opposed to finding ways to extract value from users immediately.\n\nCompanies like [Niffler](https://niffler.co/news/mass-adoption-through-education) and [Jalapeno Inventive](https://www.jalapen.io), which I am CEO and co-founder of, also talk about the importance of education to mass adoption, and not just knowledge but the availability of tools and the skills to use them. \n\nThought leaders in the space are constantly talking about education being important to adoption, but the industry has not taken the steps to address this gap. My opinion is that effective skills-based education is one of the biggest opportunities in the current crypto landscape.  \n\nAt the individual level, crypto enthusiasts continue to download wallets for their friends and family and put crypto directly into those users hands, and this works great to get users to start, but there tends to be a drop off in engagement after the initial dopamine hit. Market downturns also turn these new users off if they are not given trusted sources to continue learning about crypto beyond the price. We can do this with platforms based on education and entertainment, like the ones mentioned earlier. \n\nLet's continue to think about this approach and I hope to see more projects focused on education and removing ALL barriers to entry for the average consumer.",

Sorry. :/** <center/>\n\nWhy People No Mass Adopt!? That's the question that everyone asks. It's almost like crypto is still seen as some kind of ugly baby that people just won't take a picture with. Well, news flash, IT IS! Crypto is still quite cryptic to the masses. We have yet to frame the use of crypto in a way that is truly meaningful to most end users of the geographic and demographic markets where it has been most easily adopted thus far. \n\nI'm going to make a little series out of this for the next few weeks and I'd like your participation. We're going to document your experience and the experiences of others who have or have not adopted crypto up to this point. \n\nFirst, I want you to think about your own experience getting into crypto. When did you first hear about it, what did you think and when did you actually take the steps to adopt. Also include some of those steps. I know we will likely have some overlap on stories but I think it's important for us to see and understand what our own hangups were. We can then compare them to the hangups of other people, and as a whole community understand what it will actually take to bring about mass adoption. \n\nI'll start with my story. \n\nI first heard about bitcoin back in 2009 when someone on [H]ardOCP mentioned the idea of hardware benchmarking by mining bitcoin instead of doing SETI@Home. I thought \"Hah! that shit's illegal. I'm not gonna get caught up in that\". Laughable... right? Fast forward to November 2013 and bitcoin exploded to $1200! I thought I was an idiot for not taking it seriously but didn't look into it right away. It wasn't until the next month when bitcoin crashed to $600 that I started to pay attention. I saw a post on Reddit about the crash, and started to read through it when I saw someone post about other currencies; PeerCoin, NameCoin and then DogeCoin. I googled each one and when I came across Jackson Palmer's twitter post saying \"DogeCoin. It's the next big thing\" my heart jumped and I frantically started to figure out how I get this new coin. \n\n<center>https://3dsgm810md7fr0s6s2luyaf1-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/dogecoin-logo-1200x801.jpg<center/>\n\n<center>Photo via Pixabay, Source: [Themerkle](https://themerkle.com/dogecoin-hits-a-penny/) <center/>\n\nI found some DogeCoin on eBay, and by the end of the day December 16, 2013, I had a wallet with 25,000 DogeCoin that I paid $45 for. From there, the DogeCoin sub-Reddit exploded in a frenzy of coins flying around with the DogeTip bot, meme's galore, and [some hilarious videos](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=000al7ru3ms) that fresh DogeCoin enthusiasts started making. It was a truly magical experience and something that felt so non-serious. It felt like a game. \n\nI look back and smile at the hilarity of my entry and it inspired much oh how I've thought about the approach that [Jalapeno Inventive](https://vote.jalapen.io) should take to facilitate mass adoption. It simplified crypto entry to a PM and a public message. It became stupid easy to be gifted crypto. That combined with the nature of the community is what allowed that sub-Reddit to grow rapidly to 20,000 subscribers in just 2 months.
