A sign on its front door solemnly informs the visitor that they've entered - in effect - a new country.\n\nThe \"Königreich Deutschland\" (Kingdom of Germany) is a self-proclaimed independent state - complete with its own self-appointed king.\n\nPeter the First, as he prefers to be known, receives us in a rather gloomy wood-paneled hall.\n\nIt's about a decade since his coronation - there was a ceremony, complete with orb and scepter - and the foundation of his so-called kingdom, which mints its own money, prints its own ID cards, and has its own flag.\n\nHe's what's known in Germany as a \"Reichsbürger\" (Citizen of the Reich), one of an estimated 21,000 people who are defined by the country's intelligence agencies as conspiracy theorists who don't recognize the legitimacy of the post-war German state.\n\nThey've risen to prominence this week, with the arrest of 25 people in raids on Reichsbürger suspected of plotting to storm the German parliament building, the Reichstag, in a violent overthrow of the government.\n\nKing Peter says he has no such violent intentions.\n\nBut he does believe the German state to be \"destructive and sick\".\n\n\"I have no interest in being part of this fascist and satanic system,\" he says.\nWe settle in another room to talk, on plush armchairs under a glittering chandelier.\n\nBut this is no salon; we're surrounded by lights and cameras. This is King Peter's own TV studio - he hopes to start a TV channel - and I learn that one of his subjects will be recording every moment of our interaction.\n\nHe felt, he said, that he had no choice but to found his kingdom, having tried, unsuccessfully, to run as a mayor and a member of the German parliament.\n\n\"People who are corrupt, criminal or willing to be used thrive in the German system and those with an honest heart, who want to change the world for the better, in the interests of the common good, don't have a chance.\"\n\nHis real name is Peter Fitzek, and his activities have brought him into frequent conflict with German law.\n\nGermany doesn't recognize the kingdom or its documents: Mr. Fitzek has several convictions for driving without a license and running his own health insurance program. He also went to prison for several years for embezzling his citizens' money but the conviction was later quashed.\n\nThe regional intelligence service, which has been watching him and his kingdom for nearly two years, told us they regarded it as a threat. They liken it to a cult that exposes people to conspiracy theories and extremist ideology.\n\nSuch theories and ideologies have proliferated in Germany in recent years, fuelled by the pandemic. And Covid-19 appears to have increased support and membership in the kingdom.\n\nMr. Fitzek tells us he has about 5,000 citizens. He's expanding the kingdom, buying up land in Germany in order to set up a number of communities in which those people can ultimately live.\nWe visited one such outpost about 150 miles (240km) away from the king's castle.\n\nAncient trees surround the site of another old castle in the village of Bärwalde, an hour and a half's drive south of Berlin. Around 30 people live on the site either in the main building or in caravans that scatter the lawn along the main driveway.\n\nDespite the faded beauty of the castle, it's a bleak place. They're still renovating the buildings and clearing the grounds. Tree trunks still grow through the skeleton of an old greenhouse.\n\nBut the people here are proud of their home which they also consider it to be kingdom territory.\n\nCitizens don't pay German tax and won't send their children to school, which is illegal in Germany. They are bound by their own legal structure - presided over, I'm told, by King Peter - and ultimately they intend to have their own healthcare system.\n\n\"The kingdom can provide everything that you need in daily life. Food and nourishment, social security, all these systems are there,\" says Benjamin, who recently moved in with his young family and is responsible for PR.\n\nFor all their plans to build a sustainable green community, using modern technologies, citizens appear to have little faith in modern medicine.\n\nNo one here is vaccinated against Covid-19, Benjamin told me. It's a common position for Reichsbürger, many of whom joined protests against measures to control the pandemic.\n\n\"People who think for themselves today will often be condemned as conspiracy theorists,\" says Benjamin. \"But it's a fact that these are often the people who stay up at night thinking about problems, not just their own but those of society and politics.\"\n\nAs we left the commune and drove back through the village, a neighbor was standing on his front lawn.\n\nWhen I asked what he thought of his neighbors, he frowned. They should pay the tax he said. After all, they still accessed Germany's resources. But what worried him the most, he added, were his own children. \"What kind of influence will this lot have on them?\"\n\nFor many years Reichsbürger was a bit of a national joke. Germany is learning to take them seriously.",

Well, Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema said not so fast, my friend: This morning, Sinema announced she would change her party registration to independent and no longer identify as a Democrat moving forward. On paper, then, the next Senate’s makeup will be 49 Republicans, 48 Democrats and three independents.\n\nStill, Sinema’s switch doesn’t necessarily change the Senate’s voting math. Sinema told the Arizona Republic she intends to mostly align with the Democrats and keep her committee assignments from that party (which Majority Leader Chuck Schumer confirmed he had agreed to honor). Alongside fellow independent Sens. Angus King of Maine and Bernie Sanders of Vermont, she appears set to give the party 51 seats when it comes to organizational questions, allowing them to hold majorities on committees. Considering that she may not alter her legislative habits, why did Sinema make this decision? Her reelection outlook in 2024 may help explain her move, although her centrist attitudes likely played some role.\n\nTo some, Sinema’s party switch might not come as a surprise considering her moderate reputation. After all, she has the second-most conservative voting record in the Senate among Democrats,1 according to roll-call data from Voteview.com, with only West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin coming in to her right. Since joining the Senate, she’s taken public stances against Democratic efforts to abolish the filibuster and, along with Manchin, pushed her party to sharply reduce the outlays in budgetary legislation. Her positions have infuriated many Arizona Democrats, and the state party formally censured her over her 2022 vote to retain the filibuster, which helped block Democratic efforts to pass voting rights legislation.\n\nYet Sinema’s tendency to split from her party probably doesn’t explain her decision by itself. If that were the case, we might expect Manchin to have switched parties as well. In his study of party switchers from 1950 to 2014, political scientist Antoine Yoshinaka found that a member of Congress’s voting record didn’t do a good job of predicting party switchers on its own, even though party switchers were more likely to be out of sync with their party ideologically. He found that ideological disagreement usually had to occur alongside a desire to run for higher office or to gain a more valuable committee post to produce a greater likelihood of changing parties. Sinema, however, is already in a high office as senator — a presidential bid as a centrist independent seems unlikely, though we shouldn’t rule that out — and if she votes similarly to how she has previously, it won’t be as if she made a full-on party switch to the GOP and received a plum committee assignment as part of the deal.\n\nBut there’s a solid chance Sinema’s 2024 electoral outlook played into her decision-making process. Sinema hasn’t said whether she plans to run for reelection, but there’s little question that her tendency to break with her former party has outraged much of the Democratic base that helped put her in the Senate in the first place. A Suffolk University/Arizona Republic poll of the state in September found that Democratic likely voters viewed her quite negatively, with 49 percent holding an unfavorable opinion and 30 percent a favorable one. Facing a potential primary challenge on her left from Democratic Rep. Ruben Gallego, Sinema stood a real chance of losing renomination if she sought reelection as a Democrat (she might’ve been in trouble against a more center-left Democrat, too, like Rep. Greg Stanton). Tellingly, Yoshinaka’s study found the prospect of facing a highly competitive primary in one’s own party can play into leaving that party.\n\nStill, if Sinema’s chances of winning a Democratic primary were mediocre at best, it’s unclear how much stronger her path would be as an independent. It’s hard to imagine Republicans deciding not to field a major candidate against Sinema even if she’s an independent, but it’s possible she is hoping that the potential complications of a three-way race discourage a high-profile Democrat like Gallego from running. In that scenario, perhaps Democrats line up behind her in a head-to-head race against a Republican. \n\nHowever, Gallego has already responded to Sinema’s switch by sending out fundraising texts that say he’s considering a Senate run. Now, Sinema might be able to put together a mishmash coalition of Democrats, Republicans and independents to win a three-way contest. After all, that Suffolk poll found that Republican likely voters also had a slightly more positive view of her than Democrats (35 percent favorable, 40 percent unfavorable), while independent likely voters had net-positive attitudes (42 percent favorable, 27 percent unfavorable). And she could attract plurality support if Democrats and Republicans nominate candidates who are viewed as too far left or right. That’s a possibility, too, as Gallego is a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, and Arizona Republicans just nominated far-right contenders Blake Masters and Kari Lake in the 2022 Senate and gubernatorial races, respectively.\n\nBut Sinema could certainly also find herself running in last place. Yoshinaka’s study found party switchers suffer an electoral penalty in their first general election after switching, with an average decline of 4 to 9 percentage points in vote share. Having upset Democrats, Sinema might lose most of their support to the Democratic pick, and there’s no guarantee that many Republicans back her over their party’s nominee, even if that candidate is highly problematic. While Arizona does have 1.4 million registered voters who aren’t registered as Republicans (1.4 million voters) or Democrats (1.3 million), we also know that most self-identified independents lean toward one party or the other. So getting voters to eschew the major-party candidates won’t be easy, especially if Sinema isn’t overwhelmingly popular (the Suffolk poll put her overall favorability at 36 percent favorable, 38 percent unfavorable).\nOf this group, Sinema is the sixth to become independent at some point, but only three prior to her actually stuck with identifying that way. Of those, Sen. Harry Byrd Jr. of Virginia might make the most interesting comparison to Sinema: A conservative Democrat, he refused to take an oath saying he would back the party’s nominee for president in 1972, ahead of his 1970 reelection campaign. He instead ran as an independent, thereby avoiding a primary challenge, and won a majority of the vote over Democratic and Republican opposition (he’d win in 1976 as well, although throughout that time he still caucused with the Democrats). Sinema, it seems, will be aiming to pull off the same trick in 2024 — that is, should she choose to run again.",

We really appreciate everybody's help … and investigators are vetting those, and they're following those,\" MPD Chief James Fry said in a Friday video.\nThe Moscow Police Department told Fox News Digital that the vehicle was spotted near the crime scene in the early morning hours of Nov. 13, and investigators believe the person or people who were in that car at the time may have information that could be important to their investigation. Many people have been plagued by questionable facts and liquid vitamin claims. The truth about vitamin absorption has finally arrived.\n\nThe most contentious liquid vitamin myth has to be superior vitamin absorption. Pill vitamins have a 30% absorption rate, whereas liquid vitamins have a 90% absorption rate. It is now time to visually prove or disprove this fact.\n\nThe fact-testing method used involves a simple experiment. The experiment started with a hypothesis. A nutrient must be completely simplified before passing through the body’s membranes, such as the villi in the small intestine or the mucous membrane, in order to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Keeping this in mind, a pill must be simplified before nutrient absorption can occur. This restricts the pill from vitamin to only one route of entry into the bloodstream: the small intestine.\n\nFortunately, liquid vitamins increase the number of entry pathways into the body, allowing for greater absorption. A liquid vitamin is already in its most basic form. As you drink the liquid vitamin, absorption begins in your mouth’s mucous membrane and through tissue in your esophagus.\n\nVitamin absorption must now be more than just a theory. Visual proof of the vitamin supplement’s ability to pass through a very thin membrane must be available. Visual proof is now possible with a few items from your kitchen. A coffee filter can be used to simulate the permeable membrane through which nutrients must pass in our bodies. Lemon juice has a pH similar to stomach acid. Stomach acid pH levels can range from 1 to 3 depending on stomach conditions. The pH of lemon juice is 2.3. Two vitamins were chosen for their popularity and availability but will remain anonymous in order to preserve the experiment’s universality.\nAfter the vitamin absorption experiment planning was completed, the experiment was carried out, leaving only visual evidence.\n\n\nThe vitamin absorption facts were finally visually displayed after the filtering process was completed. The weighted analysis revealed 0.2 ounces of a filtered liquid vitamin supplement and 0.8 ounces of filtered pill-form vitamin. This corresponds to the absorption rate facts tested. The coffee filter contains visual proof of liquid vitamins’ ability to absorb approximately 3 to 4 times more efficiently than pill-form vitamins.",
