| title | Steem4nigeria Accelerator Contest Week124: What I Think About The Book Reading Culture. |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> *In many places around the world, reading books is increasingly seen as something old-school. A lot of us have life-changing books sitting untouched on shelves, in bags, or on our phones, in fact for years. We know reading is good, but we still don’t do it consistently.* Today I want to share my thoughts on reading culture in response to this thoughtful contest, I want to talk about why that happens, what I truly believe about books, my personal experience, and the one book I would recommend right now. <center><div class="phishy">Do you believe that books contains information that can change your life? If Yes or No, back up your answer with valid points.</div></center>| |- Yes, I strongly believe books contain information that can change lives. Here are the main reasons why I believed so: - Books give you decades of wisdom in a few hundred pages. Someone has already lived through the mistakes, failures, and victories you’re about to face. They wrote it down so you can avoid the pain or copy the success. - Books reshape your mindset. One powerful idea from a book can change how you handle money, relationships, fear, discipline, or purpose. That single shift in thinking often leads to completely different life choices. - They teach patience and focus. Finishing a book trains your attention span in a world full of 15-second videos and reels. That mental discipline spills over into studies, work, prayer, and even conversations. - They bring hope and direction. I’ve read stories of people who came from far worse situations and still made it. Those stories remind me that progress is possible, even when things feel stuck. *Books are like quiet mentors you can visit anytime. The real transformation happens when you apply what you read, but the spark starts when you start reading on the page.* <center><div class="phishy">Have you ever succeeded in completely reading a book you picked up at any point in your life... If yes, what we're some of the lesson learnt, if No, what was your challenge?</div></center>| |- Yes, I have finished several books that truly impacted me. Let me share some of them, and the lessons I learnt from each... - The Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren Lesson: Life is not about me, but about living for a bigger purpose than myself. This book helped me stop living for people’s approval and start focusing on what really matters. - Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday Lesson: Ego is often the biggest obstacle to success. It makes us defensive, arrogant, and blind to our weaknesses. The book taught me to stay humble, keep learning, and treat both success and failure as teachers instead of enemies. - Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki Lesson: I learnt that the rich do not work for money, rather they make money work for them. It changed how I think about saving, investing, and building assets rather than just chasing salaries. My biggest challenge when I don’t finish books is distraction and mental fatigue. After lectures, choir rehearsals, and family time, my brain is sometimes too tired to concentrate. Social media scrolling steals the little bit of time I could use for reading. I’ve been working on it by reading 10 pages first thing in the morning or right before bed when my mind is clearer. <center><div class="phishy">If you are given an opportunity to recommend a book(s) that has blessed or benefited you what book would that be?</div></center>| |- If I can recommend just one book right now, it would be Ego Is the Enemy by Ryan Holiday. The book is direct, and written in very clear language. Every chapter hits hard and gives you something you can apply immediately. It has helped me stay grounded, especially when things go well or when I face criticism. In a world where ego drives so much conflict, pride, and bad decisions, this book feels like a necessary mirror. Reading culture is fading because we crave instant gratification. But the truth is: depth wins over speed in the long run. People who read consistently usually end up thinking more clearly, making better decisions, and living more intentionally, even if quietly. |

| title | The Diary Game: How I Spent My Last Weekend at my Aunty's Shop in Agbeni Market, Ibadan. |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> The day was Saturday, 24th of January, 2026, I am still smiling as I remember how the day went. To be honest, I didn't plan any big outing or hangout the last weekend, instead, I spent the whole day helping at my aunt's shop in Agbeni Market, Ibadan. She sells all kinds of sweets, biscuits, chocolates, chewing gums, and other kids' confectionery, basically the spot every child drags their parents to. Let me tell you how the day went. That Saturday morning, around 8 AM, my phone rang. It was my Aunty calling me. She said she was heading to Lagos to restock goods and needed someone to stay at the shop all day to oversee things. "Ayobami, please come and help me hold the shop,” she said. I paused for about 15 minutes thinking about my life, “Ah, this will be stressful.” The last time I helped there, it was chaos: we were writing sales manually on paper, adding totals with calculator, counting cash repeatedly, and dealing with impatient customers. I almost said no… but family is family, so I agreed. *Departure from house* I got to Agbeni Market around 10 AM. When I entered the shop, I was both shocked and excited because things had changed a lot. Aunty had bought a brand new Redmi Pad Pro 5G just for sales, which means no more paper and calculator stress. She quickly showed me the sales app (it's just a simple POS-style app), and after one demonstration, I caught it perfectly. *The Tablet* From then on, my main job and the whole process became easy: customer will pick their items, I enter the products on the tablet, it shows the total, the customer pays cash or makes a transfer, I count the money, give change if needed and then dispense the goods. I felt so much peace the entire day. There's no headache from manual calculations, no fear of making mistakes in total. Technology has really made a huge difference, it literally makes life easier to live. *Making sales on the sales app* My next concern was the sales girls. There are three of them helping Aunty at the shop. I already knew one very well, but the other two just started this month according to what Aunty told me. I didn't want to come across as bossy, but I also didn't want them to feel they could play too much. So, I make sure I balanced it carefully: when customers were few, we gisted, played music from my phone, laughed, and just chilled. When customers came, everyone switched to work mode, I made sure they work politely, fast, and diligently, and it worked. They respected me without feeling oppressed, and I enjoyed relating with them like friends. *One of the new sales girls, performing her duties* The best part was interacting with the market crowd, different customers from all ethnic groups: Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, even some foreigners buying in bulk. I learned real customer service ethics: smile, greet properly, be patient, know your products, and thank them even if they buy just one sweet. | ---|--- *The Shop Shelf* We started packing up by 5 PM since the closing time for the girls is 6 PM. I helped them carry goods inside, arrange shelves, and sweep. By 5:45 PM, everything was tidy. I tipped each of the three girls ₦1,000 as a small token for their hard work and released them early. Then I waited for Aunty. She arrived back around 6:30 PM from Lagos, she told me the transporters will bring the goods she bought by Monday of the following week. While waiting, I cross-checked everything: counted the cash in the box and matched it with the sales records on the app, and it's a perfect balance. I handed over the money and keys to her. We locked up together by 7:12 PM. Before we parted ways, she gave me ₦10,000 for helping her and she also gave me an airpod, she told me she bought it for me when coming from Lagos just to surprise me. Apart from the gifts, I felt the joy and happiness of being useful, learning new things. *One day boss* I learnt the value of stepping out of one's comfort zone, even if it's just by helping in a family's shop. |

"body": "<div class=\"text-justify\">\n\n\n\nThe day was Saturday, 24th of January, 2026, I am still smiling as I remember how the day went. Let me tell you how the day went.\n\nThat Saturday morning, around 8 AM, my phone rang. It was my Aunty calling me. She said she was heading to Lagos to restock goods and needed someone to stay at the shop all day to oversee things. \"Ayobami, please come and help me hold the shop,” she said. I paused for about 15 minutes thinking about my life, “Ah, this will be stressful.” The last time I helped there, it was chaos: we were writing sales manually on paper, adding totals with calculator, counting cash repeatedly, and dealing with impatient customers. I almost said no… but family is family, so I agreed.\n\n\n\n*Departure from house*\n\nI got to Agbeni Market around 10 AM. | title | SAC-Wk122 — Is Cohabiting called Marriage? |
| body | <div class="text-justify"> In today's world, marriage feels like a big load for many young people. The cost of bride price, traditional rites, wedding parties, and everything else makes it look so expensive and complicated. It's so complicated to the extent that a lot of couples decide to live together first, have children, and think about formal marriage later. But this raises an important question: Is living together the same as being married? Let's talk about it openly and honestly. Hi, my name is Ayobami Olatunbosun from Nigeria, and here is my honest opinion on the topic "Is Cohabiting called Marriage?" <center><div class="phishy">If someone lives with a woman, bears children, but never pays her bride price, are they couples or married?</div></center>| |- In our culture and under Nigerian law, people who are just living together and bearing children are cohabiting partners. Under customary law which applies to most traditional unions in Nigeria, bride price is a key requirement for a valid marriage. The law has repeatedly said that long cohabitation, even for 20 or 30 years with many children, does not automatically become marriage if the bride price was never paid. If the required marriage rites was not done, both the woman and kids did not have strong legal protection. Even in the future, the man dies or leaves, the wife may struggle to claim inheritance or property, and the children may face challenges to prove legitimacy. So, in my own opinion, living together and bearing children does not equal being married. They are in a relationship, but not a legally or traditionally recognized union. <center><div class="phishy">What's your view on cohabiting? Is it a shortcut to getting married?</div></center>| |- I don't see cohabitation as a real shortcut to marriage. It's more like a trial period that can lead to marriage… or quietly continue forever without ever becoming marriage. With the global economic situation (high rent, fuel prices, school fees, and inflation), it makes practical sense for some couples to share bills, build a home, and raise kids before spending huge money on marriage rites. If both people are clear from the beginning, it can be a smart step. But if there is no plan and agreement to formalise the relationship later, it often becomes a permanent situation. One person (usually the woman) ends up feeling insecure, while the other enjoys the benefits without full commitment. To me, it's not a shortcut, it's a different path that may or may not end in marriage. Are there advantages or disadvantages of cohabiting? The issue of cohabiting is like two-faced sword, it has its advantages and disadvantages, to be honest. The advantages work especially for couples who have it in plan to get married later, even though it's not usually guaranteed. **_The Advantages of Cohabitation._** - Cohabitation really gives couples opportunities to get to know each other in the aspect of daily habits, money management, conflict style, parenting approach. - It helps them to save money in the short term. - The can build stronger emotional and physical bond before big commitments are set in. - And most importantly, it allows couples to test if they can raise children together without the pressure of divorce. While the advantages might seem like a glitter, the bad side of it is not looking good at all. The consequences of cohabiting, especially for the couples who didn't later get married are heavy. **_The Disadvantages of Cohabitation._** - No legal protection, no automatic inheritance, no spousal rights, no easy divorce settlement. - Higher Chance of Breakup: Different studies show that couples who live together before marriage have slightly higher divorce rates later because they slide into marriage instead of choosing it deliberately. - Pressure from Family and Community: Many parents and elders see cohabitation as a wrong or shameful act. - Children may face rejection or even legal issues in some instances. <center><div class="phishy">Is it good to sexually test the person you want to marry before considering to marry them? What's your viewpoint?</div></center>| |- Though, I understand the fear of people saying "What if we marry and the sex is bad?” or “What if we can't have children?” But I don't think testing sexually before marriage is the best way. Sex is only one part of compatibility. True long-term happiness and union comes from respect, communication, shared values, trust, and kindness and those are the things you can discover through honest conversations, courtship, and counseling without jumping into having sex first. Premarital sex also many risks it may be unplanned pregnancy or STIs or emotional attachment before readiness, and heartbreak if one person leaves afterward. In many Nigerian families and religious communities, it's also seen as against values. My personal view: Focus on deep friendship, open talks about expectations including intimacy and children, medical checks if fertility is a worry, and premarital counseling. I believe that if sex is the main thing you're testing for, the relationship might not be strong enough in other areas. In conclusion, though marriage rites can be expensive and stressful, but they give security, respect, and legal backing especially for women and children. Cohabitation is a personal choice, but it comes with real risks if there's no clear plan to get married later. I am inviting @peacemike @gabriella26 and @teejay005 to participate in this contest. |

It's more like a trial period that can lead to marriage… or quietly continue forever without ever becoming marriage.\n\nWith the global economic situation (high rent, fuel prices, school fees, and inflation), it makes practical sense for some couples to share bills, build a home, and raise kids before spending huge money on marriage rites. If both people are clear from the beginning, it can be a smart step.\n\nBut if there is no plan and agreement to formalise the relationship later, it often becomes a permanent situation. To me, it's not a shortcut, it's a different path that may or may not end in marriage.\n\nAre there advantages or disadvantages of cohabiting?\n\nThe issue of cohabiting is like two-faced sword, it has its advantages and disadvantages, to be honest. The advantages work especially for couples who have it in plan to get married later, even though it's not usually guaranteed.\n\n**_The Advantages of Cohabitation._**\n\n- Cohabitation really gives couples opportunities to get to know each other in the aspect of daily habits, money management, conflict style, parenting approach.\n\n- It helps them to save money in the short term.\n\n- The can build stronger emotional and physical bond before big commitments are set in.\n\n- And most importantly, it allows couples to test if they can raise children together without the pressure of divorce.\n\nWhile the advantages might seem like a glitter, the bad side of it is not looking good at all. The consequences of cohabiting, especially for the couples who didn't later get married are heavy.\n\n**_The Disadvantages of Cohabitation._**\n\n- No legal protection, no automatic inheritance, no spousal rights, no easy divorce settlement.\n\n- Higher Chance of Breakup: Different studies show that couples who live together before marriage have slightly higher divorce rates later because they slide into marriage instead of choosing it deliberately.\n\n- Pressure from Family and Community: Many parents and elders see cohabitation as a wrong or shameful act.\n\n- Children may face rejection or even legal issues in some instances.\n\n\n<center><div class=\"phishy\">Is it good to sexually test the person you want to marry before considering to marry them? | body | <div class="text-justify"> In today's world, marriage feels like a big load for many young people. With the global economic situation (high rent, fuel prices, school fees, and inflation), it makes practical sense for some couples to share bills, build a home, and raise kids before spending huge money on marriage rites. What's your viewpoint?</div></center>|\n|-\n\n\n\nThough, I understand the fear of people saying \"What if we marry and the sex is bad?” or “What if we can't have children?” But I don't think testing sexually before marriage is the best way.\n\nSex is only one part of compatibility. True long-term happiness and union comes from respect, communication, shared values, trust, and kindness and those are the things you can discover through honest conversations, courtship, and counseling without jumping into having sex first.\n\nPremarital sex also many risks it may be unplanned pregnancy or STIs or emotional attachment before readiness, and heartbreak if one person leaves afterward. In many Nigerian families and religious communities, it's also seen as against values.\n\nMy personal view: Focus on deep friendship, open talks about expectations including intimacy and children, medical checks if fertility is a worry, and premarital counseling. I believe that if sex is the main thing you're testing for, the relationship might not be strong enough in other areas.\n\n\n\n\n\nIn conclusion, though marriage rites can be expensive and stressful, but they give security, respect, and legal backing especially for women and children. Cohabitation is a personal choice, but it comes with real risks if there's no clear plan to get married later.",
