| body | Completely agree with most of what you wrote here. I view alt-coin trading like shorting the VIX in equity markets. When there isn't much volatility in the underlying asset, shorting the VIX is a winning strategy. However, when volatility comes back, there is a magnified impact on the VIX and the spike will crush the strategy. Similarly, in crypto makets BTC is the underlying asset, which has been range bound for the past two weeks. In those two weeks, Altcoins have had a huge run and the Altcoin minimalists think they're geniuses. It's just a matter of time until the next BTC move and Altcoins get crushed. |

| body | Originally, I was going to post about BitConnect as a warning to people that are tempted to put their cryptoassets there. While it hasn't been officially confirmed, there are so many telling signs that BitConnect is indeed a ponzi scheme. I think many people know this and there have been many YouTube videos and articles on the Internet about the absurdly high daily interest rate and the suspicious "volatility" machine that generates the company the supposed massive returns. What had me worried are the many advertisements that I see of people that have "made money" on BitConnect, encouraging people new to crypto to invest there. If it is indeed a ponzi scheme, it's difficult to determine whether the people affected by such scheme will be remunerated for their losses, as it was the case for the Bernie Madoff case. The reason that it's different this time is that in crypto, there may not be a way to take money away from some investors who received ill gotten gains and redistribute them to the investors that suffered the losses. We'll see how it all plays out. And we have to remember that BitConnect is based in Asia. At one point, it was listed as the 7th largest crypto currency on coinmarketcap.com. Now it's ranked 17th. On November 3rd, the market cap dropped from over $2B to $600M, a drop of 70%. The explanation that I've found online for the massive drop is the way the site now calculates the coins outstanding. To my understanding there have been other coins affected in a similar manner. I don't have the answers but I think from BitConnect's perspective, they may think that they're better off being lower in the charts. That way they can be subject to less scrutiny from the regulators and the media. I hope that when the cats out of the bag, it doesn't take the rest of crypto down with it. |

| body | One of the biggest influencers in Altcoins is Teeka Tiwari of Palm Beach Confidential. He has a monthly newsletter that comes out the third Thursday of every month and in that monthly report, he usually has one or more recommendations on a small to mid cap Altcoin. To gain access to the report you have to pay a subscription, which will set you back anywhere between $2,500 to $3,000 per year (and it auto renews). For the most part, the research is tailored to the average investor that doesn't have the time, skills or resources to vet individual coins. Teeka has his proprietary methodology of analyzing cryptos and his connections to key people within the industry go a long way. The great thing about his report is that it's written in an easy to read level. So why does this report matter? Because it moves prices. In fact, even the rumor of what could be included as a recommendation in the next monthly report moves prices. Here are the last two examples: ZEN went from 140000 to 510000 satoshi in a day. XRP went from 2700 to 4000 satoshi in a matter of hours. If you're strapped for cash and can't afford the subscription price, certain people in the twitter sphere have been good at putting together clues as to which coin Teeka will recommend in his next issue. They are worth following and turning on notifications so that you can make the trade as soon as possible. Of course, these are just trades, because as you can see the price gets ahead of itself relatively quickly and it's better to sell and moving on to the next coin. |

| body | ReddCoin's goal is to become the social currency that is used to on a decentralized tipping platform to reward content creators through these micro donations. This is an improvement to the Karma system on Reddit in that the donations would have actual monetary value. **Social Media Platforms Today** The most popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc. are all essentially advertising platforms. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat don't share any of the ad revenues with their creators because these sites provide a service. They all connect users with other users and as along as the network is strong, it makes sense for the users to continue to use the service and thereby create content for the sites for free. There are ways to monetize the social status of some platforms, however. Popular users of Instagram and Snapchat have figured out that they can monetize their large list of followers by promoting items for advertisers directly, thereby circumventing the platforms. YouTube has a partnership program where they share ad revenues with content creators. This makes sense because there is no other use case for YouTube other than viewing content, i.e. users are not interacting with each other on YouTube for the sake of doing so. Because of this ad share model, YouTube has been able to grow the platform tremendously over the past 10 years. There are a handful of media platforms that reward creators through direct payments from viewers. TwitchTV is where many popular gamers stream themselves playing games while interacting with viewers. Twitch has two methods in which viewers can pay the creators. They can make direct contributions through donations of any dollar amount or they can subscribe to their channel for $5/month, of which the creator typically gets half. Patreon is another platform in which creators get consumers of their content to subscribe to their channel for a monthly fee. The site keeps 10% of the payments, creators get 90%. Creators usually pair their Patreon channel with other platforms such as YouTube or TwichTV, but they try to give their Patreon supporters either early access to content or exclusive content to compensate for their support. **So Why Do We Need ReddCoin?** We don't really "need" this tipping platform other than helping creators better monetize the advertising based platforms. It can also help creators monetize their content better across different geographies. The consumer based in Israel can easily help her favorite TwichTV streamer without having to go through the many hurdles of converting currency to U.S. dollars. That same user can also tip her favorite Twitter handle for some insight into her favorite topic. The key here is ease of use, which should lead to greater reach. Imagine a scenario where all of the Twitch donations and subscriptions are paid in ReddCoin. How different would that experience be? And how impactful would that be for the ReddCoin network? **How Much Should ReddCoin be Worth?** No one knows, but there should be some value of the ReddCoin if it is being used as the tipping mechanism for all these social media platforms. With the dramatic increase in prices of many AltCoins this summer, ReddCoin also saw a spike. After the rally, the price has trickled down lower, and part of that has to do with the lack of development activity. The Reddcoin Tip Platform extension on Chrome hasn't been updated since 2014. That goes the same for the Reddit, Twitter and TwichTV bots on the site. The team has recently put out its updated roadmap, which should help get some increase activity on the platform, even if it's just the typical trading of tokens on the various exchanges. We'll see if they can hit their targets for the web wallet and Redd ID. **What's Unique about ReddCoin's Blockchain?** ReddCoin used to be similar to Bitcoin in that new coins were minted through proof of work (PoW). Miners would use processing power to add new blocks to the ledger and get paid in new coins. However, the founders saw that proof of work would eventually become burdensome and unsustainable in the long-run so they moved to a proof of stake velocity model (PoSV). With the PoSV model, holders of the coin can stake the coins in their wallet and gain an annualized increase of 5%. This is the best paper I've read so far on the benefits and drawbacks of PoW, proof of stake (PoS) and PoSV. I recommend reading the whitepaper. It goes over all the problems associated with PoW such as the mining arms race, electricity consumption, and movement to ASICs; PoS such as hoarding and fairness of coin distribution. **Conclusion** So there is potential here, but it really depends on the adoption rate after the developers get their act together. Hopefully there are meaningful improvements in the software in the near future so we can monitor the progress. _Sources: Reddcoin.com_ |

"body": "ReddCoin's goal is to become the social currency that is used to on a decentralized tipping platform to reward content creators through these micro donations. This is an improvement to the Karma system on Reddit in that the donations would have actual monetary value.\n\n\n\n**Social Media Platforms Today**\n\nThe most popular social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc. are all essentially advertising platforms. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat don't share any of the ad revenues with their creators because these sites provide a service. They all connect users with other users and as along as the network is strong, it makes sense for the users to continue to use the service and thereby create content for the sites for free.\n\nThere are ways to monetize the social status of some platforms, however. Popular users of Instagram and Snapchat have figured out that they can monetize their large list of followers by promoting items for advertisers directly, thereby circumventing the platforms.\n\nYouTube has a partnership program where they share ad revenues with content creators. This makes sense because there is no other use case for YouTube other than viewing content, i.e. users are not interacting with each other on YouTube for the sake of doing so. Because of this ad share model, YouTube has been able to grow the platform tremendously over the past 10 years.\n\nThere are a handful of media platforms that reward creators through direct payments from viewers. TwitchTV is where many popular gamers stream themselves playing games while interacting with viewers. Twitch has two methods in which viewers can pay the creators. They can make direct contributions through donations of any dollar amount or they can subscribe to their channel for $5/month, of which the creator typically gets half.\n\nPatreon is another platform in which creators get consumers of their content to subscribe to their channel for a monthly fee. The site keeps 10% of the payments, creators get 90%. Creators usually pair their Patreon channel with other platforms such as YouTube or TwichTV, but they try to give their Patreon supporters either early access to content or exclusive content to compensate for their support.\n\n**So Why Do We Need ReddCoin?**\n\nWe don't really \"need\" this tipping platform other than helping creators better monetize the advertising based platforms. It can also help creators monetize their content better across different geographies. The consumer based in Israel can easily help her favorite TwichTV streamer without having to go through the many hurdles of converting currency to U.S. dollars. That same user can also tip her favorite Twitter handle for some insight into her favorite topic.\n\nThe key here is ease of use, which should lead to greater reach. Imagine a scenario where all of the Twitch donations and subscriptions are paid in ReddCoin. How different would that experience be? And how impactful would that be for the ReddCoin network?\n\n**How Much Should ReddCoin be Worth?**\n\nNo one knows, but there should be some value of the ReddCoin if it is being used as the tipping mechanism for all these social media platforms. With the dramatic increase in prices of many AltCoins this summer, ReddCoin also saw a spike. After the rally, the price has trickled down lower, and part of that has to do with the lack of development activity. The Reddcoin Tip Platform extension on Chrome hasn't been updated since 2014. That goes the same for the Reddit, Twitter and TwichTV bots on the site.\n\n\n\nThe team has recently put out its updated roadmap, which should help get some increase activity on the platform, even if it's just the typical trading of tokens on the various exchanges. We'll see if they can hit their targets for the web wallet and Redd ID.\n\n**What's Unique about ReddCoin's Blockchain?**\n\nReddCoin used to be similar to Bitcoin in that new coins were minted through proof of work (PoW). Miners would use processing power to add new blocks to the ledger and get paid in new coins. However, the founders saw that proof of work would eventually become burdensome and unsustainable in the long-run so they moved to a proof of stake velocity model (PoSV). With the PoSV model, holders of the coin can stake the coins in their wallet and gain an annualized increase of 5%.\n\nThis is the best paper I've read so far on the benefits and drawbacks of PoW, proof of stake (PoS) and PoSV. I recommend reading the whitepaper.\n\nIt goes over all the problems associated with PoW such as the mining arms race, electricity consumption, and movement to ASICs; PoS such as hoarding and fairness of coin distribution.\n\n**Conclusion**\n\nSo there is potential here, but it really depends on the adoption rate after the developers get their act together. Hopefully there are meaningful improvements in the software in the near future so we can monitor the progress.\n\n_Sources: Reddcoin.com_",

| body | I ran across TenX on coinmarketcap.com's top 100 coins/tokens list ranked by market cap. Why did I decide to look into TenX as the first token? Because of the name, of course! People should expect to earn 10 times their money investing in crypto, right? All joking aside, I think TenX's mission of becoming the bridge between the current method of consumer payments and cryptocurrency assets could add tremendous value if it gains mass adoption. In terms of likelihood of success, it's probably higher than other crypto companies that want to displace and circumvent the entire financial system altogether. **Why TenX has a Good Chance of Winning vs. other Crypto Approaches** The world financial system is the most difficult industry to disrupt because banking essentially depends on trust. While there have been advances in how effective the services that the financial system provides to users, most banks have adopted these new technology or methodologies very slowly, because they can. Getting someone's money across international borders in 1 day versus 3 days is not as important as actually getting the money transferred safely. If there was a 1% chance that the money would be intercepted and stolen along the way, but you could get it there quicker, most would rather choose to go the safe, slower route. What's good about TenX's approach to bridging the crypto financial system with the traditional banking system is that its not trying to be a threat or disrupt any system that's already in place. Its approach is to be additive or complementary. Because the card holder still uses the rails of the payment networks in exchange for a fee, most of the big powerhouses in the financial industry would be willing to give it a shot. That's better than trying to replace Visa or MasterCard altogether. We have to remember that this isn't Amazon disrupting retail companies across different geographies. This is the world banking system that we're talking about here. **PAY Token Rewards** Because of the way the token rewards are structured, it is possible to estimate what the TenX PAY token could be worth or at least estimate the the yield of the token in the future. This is net of what the "network value" of the tokens would be, just pure economical value. Here's a summary of the rewards laid out below. A TenX card holder uses his/her debit card (currently the only option, looking to expand to credit in the future) to make a standard purchase at a merchant. The TenX network converts any qualified crypto asset into fiat currency right before the purchase for the exact amount due. The merchant discount is split between interchange, network and TenX fees. TenX is estimating that the Pay token holder will receive 0.5% and the card holder 0.1% of the transaction amount. If you look at the company's road map in the whitepaper, there are estimates laid out for number of users and annual transaction dollar volume until 2020. If you use their estimates (which could prove to be conservative if mass adoption happens), you can easily estimate what the annual yield of the PAY token would be given current prices. I made the calculations below for the stated 0.5% reward rate and a lower 0.1% reward rate. If the transaction volumes are what is being projected here, the annual yield on a PAY token by 2020 would be 113% in the 0.5% reward rate scenario and 23% in the 0.1% reward rate scenario. **Problem with the Reward Assumption** The best comparison to TenX's value add for the merchant is Apple Pay. The merchant can run his/her business without having to change their method at point of sale. The benefit of Apple Pay is that customers that want to use mobile banking can choose to do so, hopefully expanding the entire pie of payment volumes. Apple Pay gets 0.15% of each transaction done through their wallet in the U.S. where interchange fees are higher relative to the rest of the world. Internationally, it can be less or more depending on the country. In the U.S. there is something call the Durbin Amendment, which requires debit card interchange fees to be capped at $0.12 + 0.5%. Credit card interchange fees are much higher. In Europe, the cap is for 0.3% for Credit and 0.2% for Debit cards, for open network cards like Visa and Mastercard. In Australia and New Zealand, there is a cap at 0.5% for credit cards. If the banks are getting 0.2%-0.5% for their interchange fees, there's no way that the PAY token rewards can be as high as 0.5%. While the company would like to pay that amount in the future, I believe that it will be reduced over time to 0.1% or lower. **Other Issues** There are other obstacles that will possibly delay the pay out for the PAY token. TenX has to work with regulators, banks and payment networks of each country they want to operate in. If you take Apple Pay as an example, they started the project in 2013 and announced it in Sept 2014 for the US. The UK, Canada and Australia followed in 2015. China, Singapore and others began accepting in 2016. Even for a giant company such as Apple, it takes years to get compliance in order for a region. **Things to look forward to:** Announced of partnerships with networks for the different countries. Any user or average spend data that is ahead of plan. Obtaining a banking license in different countries. _Sources: www.tenx.tech, www.wikipedia.org_ |

| body | _Disclaimer: This post and future posts on Altcoins and Tokens should not be taken as investment advice. These are just the opinions and perspectives of someone who's been in finance over a decade._ Most people have heard of Bitcoin, Ethereum and block chain technology by now. The technology is fascinating to say the least, but for the readers of this site, making money is probably more top of mind. I am not a speculator of cryptocurrency prices and will not be "analyzing" charting patterns to convince anyone to buy or sell cryptocurrencies. For the next few weeks or months, I will be devoting most of my time looking at the Altcoins and Tokens that have been all the craze in 2017. I'll tell you from the little work that I've done so far, most of them are probably worthless and the people trading these currencies are hoping to benefit from the "greater fool theory". My mission is to find the few Altcoins and Tokens that could ultimately have intrinsic value and and may be worth investing in. I would consider these investments similar to venture capital - most will end up being zeros, but there may be a few that are multi-bagger home runs. I am a value investor, so mitigating risk while sussing out the grand potential is the ultimate goal. I will be taking a U.S. investor's perspective because that is my home country, so I will try to incorporate my limited knowledge of securities laws based in the U.S. Finally, I'd like to see this become more of a forum for discussion because I am a beginner too. If we find the gem out of the thousand or so cryptocurrencies out there, we could all stand to benefit from it. |
