Se dicen que fueron tres visitantes extranjeros que, tras el nacimiento del niño Jesús, acudieron desde otros países para rendirle honores y entregarle obsequios de una gran riqueza simbólica como oro, mirra e incienso La fiesta de los Reyes Magos que se celebra el 6 de enero es un día especial en México, ya que tiene diversos significados. Recuerda la adoración de Jesús infante por parte de los Reyes y se trata de una conmemoración medular en la liturgia católica. De esta historia surgió la costumbre de ofrecer y recibir regalos, principalmente para los niños, quienes piden, mediante carta, el juguete deseado.\n\n \n\nTambién es el día en que aparece la deliciosa rosca de Reyes, manjar esperado en la merienda familiar y delicia monjil en la época virreinal, pues se dice que las religiosas solían festejar la noche de Navidad con cantos y buñuelos. Enseguida, venía la Epifanía con la llegada de los Reyes Magos y sus azucaradas roscas perfumadas de agua de azahar. Costumbre francesa desde 1311, que pasó a España y después a México, donde el haba se sustituyó por un Jesusito que originalmente era de plata dorada, muy pequeñito y coronado. Después lo vestían para llevarlo a bendecir el Día de la Candelaria. Cuentan que algunas personas se los tragaban para evitar tener que dar fiesta el 2 de febrero. Es así que en vísperas de la festividad el cielo de la Ciudad de México se llena de esféricos multicolores que se elevan por los aires, unas veces provenientes de viviendas, otras de escuelas o parques. Otros pequeños suelen ir acompañados de sus padres al correo para depositar en el buzón sus peticiones. Y los hay más audaces, que con la modernidad piden sus juguetes por internet.\n\n \n\nLa noche del día 5 los niños deben dormir temprano y profundamente para que lleguen los Reyes a casita, de lo contrario, “el pedimento se puede tardar o incluso cebar”.
