| body | ---------- Ethereum experts have the chance to make a little extra pocket change this summer, as bug bounty hunting revs up with the network token release from Status. Users who have started using the Status Network Token (SNT) were encouraged to participate. Status, the messaging platform and mobile browser for the Ethereum network, offered a surprisingly large bounty for users who are able to find bugs in its smart contracts and software. The initiative, designed to help Status patch any remaining issues, began on June 14. Bug hunters were informed that major bugs would be rewarded with up to 25k USD in either Bitcoin or Ether, and in the case of critical level vulnerabilities, hunters could receive as much as 50k USD. The company will use the OWASP risk assessment to determine the level of threat to the sale. Items of note will receive $100 at the least, all the way up to the critical levels already mentioned. Bug hunters interested in winning a bounty can find the rules here. The bounty program will continue even after the company’s token launch. Bounty hunters who have submissions can email them to [email protected]. Anonymous submissions are also welcome. Status will continue functioning as the search for bugs continues. |

| body | ---------- Wallet provider Blockchain has raised $40 million in second round funding from new and existing contributors. The deal, which became public knowledge today, means that the resource has so far raised an excess of $70 million since its inception. “Our Series B represents the most substantial investment in the fintech space since Brexit and is the largest Series B raised by any digital currency company to date,” CEO Peter Smith wrote in a blog post. Funds arrived from Richard Branson and Lightspeed Venture Partners, of which includes early Snapchat investor, Jeremy Liew. New participants included European VC firm Lakestar and GV (formerly Google Ventures). Liew has a close relationship with Blockchain, joining Smith in April to forecast a $500,000 Bitcoin price by 2030 and continuing his bullish stance on the virtual currency in comments to the mainstream media this week. Lightspeed has also contributed to Blockchain’s $30 mln Series A round in 2014. “As the market leader, you can expect us to make big, bold bets in research and development as well as further our expansion efforts globally,” the blog post continues. “You can also expect new products aimed at allowing anyone to transact, save, or hedge digital assets with greater speed, efficiency and control.” Bitcoin consumer uptake has accelerated dramatically in 2017, with platforms such as exchanges reporting an overwhelming demand from new users with no prior experience in cryptocurrency. |

| body | ---------- The global cryptocurrency community was panic stricken for the most part of the past week. A depression that has been nicknamed by Cointelegraph as the "crypto massacre" saw almost every virtual currency bleeding profusely. It was a doomsday of sorts, and many attributed the gloom to a couple of issues. Some said the Bitcoin scaling debate was to blame for the mass slump of cryptos. Another theory attributed it to DDoS attacks currently affecting Bitcoin exchanges. But towards the end of the week, a ray of hope appeared, with various digital currencies emerging from the ashes and appreciating in value. It was fantastic to observe the speedy recovery of these cryptocurrencies, with some making admirable gains while others are yet to recover from their losses. Shaken, but not stirred ----------------------- Early in the week, it was IOTA who caused an upset by invading the top 10 and taking over the sixth spot. The move ensured that Monero and Bytecoin parted ways with the elite top 10. It also resulted in BitShares and Stratis being pushed down the ladder. They now occupy the ninth and tenth positions respectively. It was a major shake up that indeed caused some mayhem. But the IOTA rampage capsized when the only exchange that has listed it so far endured a DDoS attack. This saw the newcomer being pushed to the eighth position. Litecoin ascending ------------------ However, the most intriguing movement came with Litecoin. In fact, the SegWit pacesetter jumped three places to be the world's number four crypto on Saturday. In the process, it pushed aside IOTA, NEM and Ethereum Classic, when just last Wednesday it was ranked seventh. At the time writing on Sunday morning, LTC was being sold for 43.12 USD, and its market cap has surpassed the 2$ bln mark. In the past few weeks, the currency has gone through a metamorphosis. First, they successfully activated SegWit and statements from the team indicated that there has yet to be a blemish. Then, the Chinese government lifted its ban on the withdrawal of Litecoin and Satoshis at exchanges. Finally, the community became aware with bliss of Charlie Lee's resignation from Coinbase to concentrate fully on his brainchild. |

"body": "\n\n\n\n----------\n\n\nThe global cryptocurrency community was panic stricken for the most part of the past week. A depression that has been nicknamed by Cointelegraph as the \"crypto massacre\" saw almost every virtual currency bleeding profusely.\n\nIt was a doomsday of sorts, and many attributed the gloom to a couple of issues. Some said the Bitcoin scaling debate was to blame for the mass slump of cryptos. Another theory attributed it to DDoS attacks currently affecting Bitcoin exchanges.\n\nBut towards the end of the week, a ray of hope appeared, with various digital currencies emerging from the ashes and appreciating in value. It was fantastic to observe the speedy recovery of these cryptocurrencies, with some making admirable gains while others are yet to recover from their losses.\n\n\n\nShaken, but not stirred\n-----------------------\n\nEarly in the week, it was IOTA who caused an upset by invading the top 10 and taking over the sixth spot. The move ensured that Monero and Bytecoin parted ways with the elite top 10.\n\nIt also resulted in BitShares and Stratis being pushed down the ladder. They now occupy the ninth and tenth positions respectively. It was a major shake up that indeed caused some mayhem.\n\nBut the IOTA rampage capsized when the only exchange that has listed it so far endured a DDoS attack. This saw the newcomer being pushed to the eighth position.\n\nLitecoin ascending\n------------------\n\nHowever, the most intriguing movement came with Litecoin. In fact, the SegWit pacesetter jumped three places to be the world's number four crypto on Saturday. In the process, it pushed aside IOTA, NEM and Ethereum Classic, when just last Wednesday it was ranked seventh.\n\nAt the time writing on Sunday morning, LTC was being sold for 43.12 USD, and its market cap has surpassed the 2$ bln mark. In the past few weeks, the currency has gone through a metamorphosis.\n\nFirst, they successfully activated SegWit and statements from the team indicated that there has yet to be a blemish. Then, the Chinese government lifted its ban on the withdrawal of Litecoin and Satoshis at exchanges. Finally, the community became aware with bliss of Charlie Lee's resignation from Coinbase to concentrate fully on his brainchild.",

| body | ---------- Tech entrepreneur Mark Cuban has recently stated that Bitcoin is facing a bubble. However, Daniel M. Harrison, the CEO of DMH&CO and managing partner of Monkey Capital, reveals that such a thing is impossible due to the market-influencing capabilities of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Market bipolarity ----------------- The main factor that makes a digital bubble impossible is market bipolarity. For many people, market bipolarity is confusing but it can be distilled in a few important and understandable viewpoints. Apparently, market bipolarity is directly affected by George Soros’ “theory of reflexivity.” According to George Soros, market conditions are not influenced by equilibrium. Rather, they are “reflexive” due to the synchronization of two functions: cognitive and manipulative function. The cognitive function is a neutral thinking base - this is where economic participants assess facts for what they are. The manipulative function, on the other hand, turns one fact (or a couple of facts) in order to gain an advantage. Once the cognitive mind is affected by the manipulative mind, the neutrality will be “painted” in a different light it becomes a manipulated fact. Therefore, markets reflect the view and perspective of participants, not the full scope of economics. The situation can be represented in two ways: Manipulative Cognitive = Reflexive Manipulative + Cognitive = Equilibrium The aforementioned equations show that a manipulative thinking pattern is the usual baseline and not a cognitive function. This shows the reflexive nature of all markets one of the clear indicators that Bitcoin and Ethereum are far from experiencing a digital bubble. Artificial vs. Natural ---------------------- More importantly, Ethereum and Bitcoin markets are influenced by two thinkers: artificial and natural. Artificial pertains to the Blockchain AI and natural is all about human intervention. Many experts think that Blockchain is adopting an "economic mindset." If markets with manipulative and cognitive participants are suddenly annexed, it will always result in reflexivity or positive feedback loops. In this case, digital markets are bound by reflexivity or states of reflexivity. This is a self-perpetuating situation that can go on for many years. It’s also important to know that artificial thinkers are the “igniters” of self-perpetuating reflexivity. With AI (Blockchain), digital markets will continue to thrive, leading to fluctuating values of Bitcoin and Ethereum. Market bipolarity will always be constant. Through market bipolarity, any episode of a digital bubble is canceled out. The whole Blockchain system will never return to its “roots” but it will continue evolving. Price valuations, on the other hand, may remain grounded and directed by economic factors. Innovation or its application in various sectors is also another important factor that shapes Blockchain technology’s tenacity and ability to survive a “bubble.” |

| body | ---------- Since Internet stocks, including Amazon.com Inc. in the dot-com era, bitcoin and cryptocurrencies could be the most lucrative trading opportunities. Everyone knows that trading cryptocurrencies, including bitcoin, comes at a high risk for many reasons, such as volatility. However, it is a real opportunity for both traders and investors right now. However, investors should be careful when investing in bitcoin in the longer term. Since the birth of the cryptocurrency, bitcoin owners experienced great price drops, with some of them reaching 75 percent of previous peak values. Recently in June, bitcoin, along with the other cryptocurrencies, experienced a huge price fall of nearly 40 percent before bottoming out. Looking behind all cryptocurrencies, both investors and traders should see the bigger picture since virtual currencies are the start of something grand. The reason for this is the blockchain technology behind all of the digital currencies. Since the super useful attribute of blockchain, which enables value transfer without middlemen, many companies, and financial institutes are planning to implement the new tech. According to Gordon Scott, contributor at Investopedia, who is also the Managing Director of the CMT program for the Market Technicians Association, the recent price surge of bitcoin’s price “is an indication that many more people are starting to believe these promises could actually be fulfilled.” If bitcoin seems to be too fast for many, investors should look back to the dot-com crash in 2000, where many of the Internet stocks crashed, many were lowered in value but managed to recover, while some of the stocks rocketed to orbit and stayed there, such as Amazon and eBay. According to Scott, there is a worthwhile comparison between the prices of Amazon and bitcoin. Amazon, between the period of 1997 and 1999 increased its value by 6,000 percent. On the other hand, bitcoin’s price rose by 4,000 percent from 2009 to 2010 and further increased by 2800 percent from 2016 to 2017. Ethereum also experienced big price surges: the value of the cryptocurrency increased by 2,800 percent from 2016 to 2017. At first, most of the people knew that Amazon had a great idea, however, no one could quantify the share value of the company accurately. Investors had to guess the value of the firm, which resulted in overestimating the possibilities for a time. The peak price from 1999 looks really cheap by comparison today. Surprisingly, bitcoin’s performance in the cryptocurrency’s first two years only achieved approximately two-thirds of Amazon’s price increase. The past two years in both bitcoin’s and Ethereum’s life came with the most dramatic price surges, however, it was not enough to reach Amazon’s meteoric rise. |

| body | Antshares, the “first original Chinese public chain,” has seen some serious price spikes in the past couple of days, now sitting at an all-time high of nearly $9 or .004 BTC ---------- Of course, here on this side of the planet, there hasn’t been a lot of buzz about Antshares. This could be due to the fact that Antshares is not directed at Western users at all. CCN figured that, given the spiking price, it would be a good time to give our readers an overview of the Antshares project. What’s In A Blockchain? Antshares has the following features that differentiate it from Ethereum and Bitcoin: - Antshares is a smart contract platform like Ethereum, but allows for multiple asset classes to be held in the same chain. - Antshares is Sino-centric. - Antshares focuses on “digital asset registration,” and has successfully helped more than one firm. - Antshares’ circulating supply is half its total supply. People can use it to digitalize assets or shares, and accomplish some financial business through peer-to-peer network such as registration and issuing, make transactions, settlement and payment. Could Antshares be like the Badu to Bitcoin’s Google? Something native to the region, which already knows how to navigate the regulatory landscape, could certainly see significant gains in China. While Chinese-produced forks of Bitcoin have been done in the past, Antshares is far from a standard Satoshi client. Native Currencies & Technologies -------------------------------- The spread of a given currency is very much a matter of its social acceptability and so-called network effect. The network effect of Facebook has not fully consumed the world, for instance – in China, they have their own major social networks, like Weibo and Renren, as well as in Russia they have VK. Facebook is not dominant in these areas, but instead, competes for users with natively-built alternatives. Bitcoin adoption could follow a similar path in certain parts of the world. Borderless currency or not, Bitcoin is certainly much harder to learn about if one is not an Anglophile. As such, projects like Antshares might have a legitimate chance at maintaining their foothold, at least regionally. The same could happen in Russia – rather than mass Bitcoin adoption, they could adopt something homegrown that performs all the same functions. The recent price rise in Antshares could be on the buzz surrounding their upcoming conference, or it could be that newcomers to the cryptocurrency markets are looking globally at other innovative projects which appear untapped. Certainly, if Antshares becomes more widely used in China, its value could rise many-fold, and we may be witnessing only the beginning of its ascent. |

| body | ---------- The Central Bank of Samoa (CBS) has issued a statement warning citizens about the increasing volume of scams associated with digital currency investments infiltrating the country. In the statement, the CBS requests that Samoan citizens remain extra cautious of digital currency investments and that they contact the CBS immediately if they experience any doubt about a digital currency investment opportunity. As per the statement: ***“We wish to advise the general public to be very cautious and diligent in dealing with get-rich-quick schemes or digital currency investments. It has been brought to our attention that a lot of get-rich-quick schemes and digital currency investment opportunities are being spread around the country through presentations and through social media – i.e. facebook! Please be aware and extra cautious of these investments. Please contact the Central Bank of Samoa if you are not quite sure about these types of investments.”*** However, Samoa isn’t the first to come down on digital currency investment scams. The ever growing interest and bloated market caps within the digital currency market have created the opportunity for clever con artists to prey on the hopes of naïve investors looking for shortcuts to fortunes. As a result, central banks worldwide have started taking the appropriate measures to warn the public about the dangers of illegitimate digital currency investment scams. In May, The Bolivian Supervisory Authority of the Financial System detained 60 cryptocurrency promoters for distributing training pamphlets related to their use. Moreover, the Bolivian authorities encouraged the population to resist participating in closed group digital currency ventures on WhatsApp. Similarly, in May 2017, the Central Bank of Hungary, Magyar Nemzeti Bank, announced the formulation of a cryptocurrency task force in order to take down the suspected scam, OneCoin. Yet, the fact that countries are issuing warnings against digital currency use isn’t necessarily the beginning of the end for the emerging technology, as exemplified by India. After issuing repeated warnings on the authenticity of digital currencies, the Indian government established a diverse group of representatives from a number of government agencies, such as the Reserve Bank of India, State Bank of India, and the NITI Aayog think-tank, in order to examine their use in the country. Subsequently, in May 2017, the Indian Ministry of Finance opened the floor to the public for comments and suggestions relating to the integration of digital currencies. When steps like these are taken by governments that are leery about crypto, they can lead to appropriate regulations and a more pleasant relationship with digital currencies in the future. |

| body | For many Bitcoin Core contributors, such as Blockstream CTO Greg Maxwell, the Lightning Network is the best option for scaling the Bitcoin network to millions of more users over the coming years. Having said that, this new innovation can also enable new types of payments that were not previously possible in Bitcoin. In a recent talk at the Bitcoin Milano Meetup, Lightning Labs co-founder Olaoluwa Osuntokun briefly discussed five potential use cases for Bitcoin’s Lightning Network, which is essentially a caching layer for payments built on top of the base Bitcoin blockchain. “The use cases are pretty cool – they’re pretty profound,” said Osuntokun. “And I think adding Lightning to Bitcoin the system itself kind of starts to fulfill some of the promises that people thought the system fulfilled before they understood the system very well.” **Global Scale Payment Network** The first use case of the Lightning Network Osuntokun brought up during his talk was the most obvious. According to Osuntokun, the Lightning Network can allow Bitcoin to scale much more efficiently as a global payment network. *“The base layer isn’t very good for payments because . . . the unpredictability of the blocks and the transaction fees being unpredictable as well,”* said Osuntokun. In Osuntokun’s view, the Lightning Network allows Bitcoin transactions to act more like traditional credit card payments in that they’ll be instant with very low fees. **Micropayments** Due to the low fees involved with Lightning Network transactions, the layer-two Bitcoin protocol can also enable micropayments. According to Osuntokun, online micropayments have not been possible in the past, at least not in a decentralized setting. *“You have to trust somebody to handle disputes and the cost of dispute [resolution] may prohibit the cost of the actual transaction because it would be uneconomical,”* Osuntokun said of past online payment models. As far as specific use cases for micropayments on the Lightning Network, Osuntokun pointed to pay-per-second music streaming, pay-per-article news websites, and various gaming applications. *“It creates a very fluid conduit for payments over the Internet,”* said Osuntokun. **Machine-to-Machine Payments** According to Osuntokun, the Lightning Network is an open, decentralized, and programmable API for online payments. This sort of payment protocol may be useful in machine-to-machine transactions because the system can be entirely automated and devices will not need to interact with any third parties. **Payroll** Another possible application of the Lightning Network mentioned by Osuntokun is payroll. When transactions are instant and practically free, it’s possible to pay employees and contractors per minute rather than per month. This increased payment velocity would allow workers to get paid immediately for their work rather than waiting for a paycheck. Mastering Bitcoin author Andreas Antonopoulos has referred to this concept as “streaming money”. **More Decentralized, Less-Trusted Exchanges** The final potential use case mentioned by Osuntokun during his talk had to do with improvements that the Lightning Network can bring to cryptocurrency exchanges. According to Osuntokun, cryptocurrency exchanges reintroduce the systemic risks that systems like Bitcoin intended to remove in the first place. He added that these exchanges have been hacked and have become targets for regulation. From Osuntokun’s perspective, the Lightning Network enables decentralized pure-cryptocurrency exchanges. *“With Lightning, the user themselves can actually hold their funds in kind of like a joint account with the exchange, meaning that we can start to restrict the set of capabilities of a hacker to [steal funds from individuals],”* said Osuntokun in terms of how the Lightning Network can improve cryptocurrency exchanges. *“We can do instant deposits into and out of the exchanges.”* *“We’ll get to [these use cases] eventually, but we’re still working on building the protocol itself,”* Osuntokun concluded. |
