| body | A lot of people are starting to quit smoking with vapes, switching from cigarettes to different e-cigarettes. I don't know how effective that is, I haven't tried it that way. I prefer vape from [Redvape Shop](https://www.red-vape.ch/) because there is no odor, you can smoke at home, there are different flavors and all that. About the harm and long-term effects on the body, I honestly didn't think about it. |

| body | Still, you can't say that vaping is safer than cigarettes. At least with cigarettes we all know what to expect. Vapes are something new, not really researched in terms of long-term effects on the body. I'm not sure it's a good substitute. |

| body | Russia Drafts Bill to Create Offshore Companies to Trade Cryptocurrencies “The Ministry of Finance proposed to create offshore companies in Russia for trading with cryptocurrency,” Ria Novosti reported. Deputy Finance Minister Alexei Moiseev told journalists that his ministry is “considering the possibility of implementing organized trades of cryptocurrencies on the Russky and Oktyabrsky islands,” according to Tass. Oktyabrsky is a river island in the European Kaliningrad Oblast. Russky Island is part of the city of Vladivostok, off the Pacific coast near Japan. In November of last year, a Hong Kong company announced that it planned to set up a crypto mining farm on Russky Island. Russia Drafts Bill to Create Offshore Companies to Trade Cryptocurrencies Oktyabrsky Island, Kaliningrad. Referring to a recently published bill entitled “On Digital Financial Assets,” Moiseev said the two islands are being considered in the bill. He elaborated that the opportunity to trade cryptocurrencies on Russky Island was “discussed with the Ministry of the Far East,” Ria Novosti described. Moiseev believes that “the exchange of cryptocurrency for rubles and other assets can be resolved in separate territories,” Tass noted and quoted him explaining: Maybe it will not be on the common territory, but within the framework of special territories like Vladivostok Free Port, [where] there is already an offshore element, and now a bill is being prepared for the Russky and Oktyabrsky Islands, where there will be an even more special regime. Differing Opinions The Ministry of Finance and the Bank of Russia still have not reached an agreement on the possibility of exchanging cryptocurrency for rubles and other assets. Russia Drafts Bill to Create Offshore Companies to Trade CryptocurrenciesRussian Presidential Adviser on Internet Development, Herman Klimenko, has “criticized the idea of the Ministry of Finance to create offshore companies in Russia to trade cryptocurrencies,” Tass also reported. According to him, from a technical point of view, there is no difference where the trading of cryptocurrencies is carried out. Klimenko elaborated, “This is about the same as legalizing mining in a certain territory. You cannot prove that it is conducted on certain sites or on certain equipment.” In addition, he “believes that the organization of offshore companies has no economic basis and will not lead to the creation of new jobs.” He was further quoted by the publication: When we do offshore fishing in Vladivostok, it’s understandable, there are fish there. If on the Russian island there were the best quality of Internet access and the fastest connection to the whole world, we would say that, for trading in cryptocurrency, this is the most important factor. Then it would be understandable, and so [as it is] there is no point. |

| body | Cryptube to Enable Digital Asset Sharing Economy on the Blockchain Cryptube promises to enable anyone to share digital assets and get rewarded by their consumption by other users with its upcoming blockchain powered platform. Cryptube’s technology secures ownership of the digital asset and its peer-to-peer sharing with a proprietary algorithm which can detect slight variations in the digital signature of the content, such as difference in colors between an original and a copy. The platform is now in its final development stage and gearing up for an ICO before its launch. The Cryptube Foundation, which will issue the CTUBE token to fund further development of the platform and marketing efforts, is registered in Singapore. “Plagiarism and piracy allowed by platforms such as The Pirate Bay cost content creators billions of US Dollars in royalties, effectively stealing potential revenue from them, while at the same time degrading the quality and trustworthiness of the content.” said Joseph Hung, CEO of Cryptube. “Even major reputable content sharing platforms including Youtube are struggling to guaranty adequate remuneration to creators and protect the owners’ copyright.” Mr. Hung also sees problems with for the consumer of content on these platforms, as they don’t really know if the digital assets they consume comes from an original source in its unedited form, and they want to know that the fee they pay goes to the creator of the content. To solve the issue, Cryptube developed an algorithm which guarantees the creators’ right be setting hash parameters, time nodes and authors signatures, allowing for tractability of the digital asset through smart contracts. Furthermore, Cryptube’s platform can analyze video frame information through its client and conduct a hash code of the color difference in parts of a video, assigning a unique hexadecimal code to each video stream. “Cryptube really brings a lot of long term value for the content creators,” said Mr. Hung, as the platform encourages the sharing of their digital asset with the promise that, with the help of blockchain technology, their content is protected against steeling. Equally importantly, Cryptube generates revenue automatically for creators as they are paid to share their content by the platform, and each time the content is consumed by other users. Smart contracts will unlock CTUBE payments when a content is successfully approved and listed on the Cryptube content list. On the side of the content consumers on Cryptube, the user has the guaranty that the content was indeed created by the creator and is not an illegal copy, and know that the creator received a remuneration for sharing their work on the platform. Each user can utilize the client-side Point-to-Point (P2P) transmission technology to participate in the creation of digital asset storage nodes and contribute to the development of the Cryptube ecosystem. “We really believe that Cryptube will change the game when it comes to fighting piracy of digital content. A platform as secure, trusted, and fair as the one we are building with our proprietary blockchain technology and algorithms will help build a much more healthy relationship between digital content creators and consumers.” finished the CEO, adding that the team is committed to reaching this goal. Cryptube is led and developed by an all-star team of internet and content sharing experts including Joseph Hung, Chairman/CEO of GameStorm Co., Ltd., Spencer Hsieh, Deputy General Manager of GameStorm Co., Ltd., and Giles Lin, General Manager of All Ways International Co., Ltd. and is backed by a long list of esteemed advisors including Yu Hong, founder and CEO of SEEU and QYGame. | body | Ecoinmerce Aims to Become World’s First Decentralized and Tokenized Marketplace Singapore (February 6, 2018) – Imagine hopping on your computer to shop online. While looking around, you notice other consumers want to buy the same item. You band together and negotiate directly with the factory to get the product discounted up to 80% off MSRP. You place the order quickly and securely, then your items are drop shipped to everyone in your group. Is this Amazon’s next project? Not quite. Ecoinmerce, the world’s first decentralized and tokenized E-commerce marketplace, today announces it has begun preparation for their revolutionary blockchain platform, which aims to connect consumers and retailers in ways never seen before. Once developed, the Ecoinmerce platform will allow users to buy as groups for higher discounts, auction goods to each other, and will feature daily deals at huge discounts. Users will also be incentivized to refer friends, share deals with social media followers, and write product reviews for any goods they’ve purchased. For retailers, the platform will offer huge advantages over traditional E-commerce options. For starters, the cost of doing business on the platform will be as low as 0.1%, a fraction of what popular marketplaces including Amazon, Alibaba, and eBay charge. Additionally, unlike the aforementioned platforms, all online stores will be 100% owned by the retailers. Furthermore, retailers will be able to tokenize their store by launching Initial Coin Offerings directly on the Ecoinmerce platform. This will enable retailers to increase brand affinity, with loyal customers becoming early investors in their favorite projects. It will also deliver new revenue streams as retailers can sell their tokens alongside their products to maximize profit. The project is headed by a slew of E-commerce, supply chain and product development veterans. During project development, Ecoinmerce is rapidly recruiting additional blockchain developers and building a strong marketing team to begin spreading brand awareness in a variety of industries. “Cryptocurrency and decentralized platforms are paradigm-shifting technologies,” said Chief Marketing Officer Luke Lappala. “While many solutions have addressed problems in different industries, there are no projects tackling one of the most common online user experiences: online shopping. Ecoinmerce will expand the E-commerce ecosystem, providing easier and less expensive options for consumers, while offering more transparent and fair charges to retailers.” |

| body | Cryptocurrency Arbitrage Algorithms Rake in Big Profits Amidst Volatility Arbitrager Rakes It In Virgil Capital, a cryptocurrency arbitrage fund founded in 2016 by 21-year-old Stefan Qin, returned 500% last year after fees and is now managing $23.5 million, The Wall Street Journal reports. Qin, An Australian living in California who put his studies on hold at Minerva Schools, uses an algorithm called Tenjin that monitors prices on about 40 exchanges The algorithm allows him to identify arbitrage opportunities. While bitcoin fell 28%% in early January, Virgil Capital was up by 12% after fees, Qin said. Qin thinks he will continue to be profitable even if bitcoin continues to lose value. He said the market is “incredibly irrational” at the present time, and is poised for a correction. Qin, a former math whiz, plans to finish his college degree at some point, but has no immediate plans to do so. Also read: Bitcoin price arbitrage explored Arbitrage Algorithm Project Tenjin is not the only cryptocurrency arbitrage algorithm. RIALTO.AI, a project consisting of data scientists, signal processing experts and trading economists, has designed proprietary algorithms for market making and arbitrage. RIALTO.AI’s arbitrage algorithm is designed to run 24/7, making small profits every time a divergence in cryptocurrency prices is detected, regardless of a cryptocurrency’s price going up or down. Its algorithm executes chain trades among several cryptocurrencies, effectively maximizing its fund’s value. On May 12, 2017, bitcoin’s price in the South Korean exchange market was $2,076, approximately 12.7% higher than that of the global average price. Bitcoin was traded on South Korean exchanges and trading platforms at a price that was $269 higher than the global average price of $1,807. |

| body | Forbes Unveils its First Ever Cryptocurrency Rich List Crypto wealth has this week drawn the attention of the biggest financial reporter. World-renowned for their yearly billionaire-list, Forbes has released a report detailing the richest people in the crypto space. It’s a move that goes one step further to legitimizing cryptocurrencies on the mainstream economic stage. The list features both innovators and institutional investors, and perhaps not surprisingly the average age of the list is 42, a whole 27 years younger than Forbes 400 list of wealthiest Americans at 67. Here’s the top ten according to Forbes. 1. Chris Larsen $7.5-8b It’s no surprise to anyone who saw Ripple’s parabolic rise last year that the coins key players made this list. According to Forbes however Larsen weighs in at a staggering $7.5-8b, due to his personal holdings of 5.2 billion XRP. As former CEO and now executive chairman he has profited highly from the project that brought blockchain tech to the banking system. 2. Joseph Lubin $1-5b Cofounder of Ethereum and founder of Consensys, the success of both platforms has launched the Toronto native from his Goldman Sachs roots to even greater wealth. 3. Changpeng Zhao $1.1-2b The CEO of the world’s largest crypto exchange, Binance, comes in at number 3. With over 6 million users the platform has netted Zhao an estimated $1.1-2 billion. 4. Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss $900m-$1.1b The twin brothers achieved their lofty heights by investing millions in Bitcoin in 2012. The protocol’s huge surge in price puts the pair somewhere in the $1b dollar range, and they now operate the New York crypto exchange Gemini. 5. Matthew Mellon $900m-£1b The heir to a banking fortune, Mellon’s bet on Ripple paid off big, catapulting his crypto wealth to close to a billion dollars. He chose Ripple because “Crypto is scary and dark. it’s anti-America….I am pro-America, pro-business and pro-bank. That’s why I went with Ripple”, Forbes reports, earmarking Mellon as one of the players here for solely for financial and not ideological reasons. 6. Brian Armstrong £900m-$1b The CEO of Coinbase has done exceptionally well creating the user-friendly portal between the fiat and crypto realms. Last year the service allegedly reached its target of $600m annual revenue. 7. Matthew Roszak $900m-$1b Roszak too made big bucks off his early Bitcoin and ICO investments, getting involved in 2011. He then moved to Tally Capital, a blockchain start-up fund that has launched over twenty projects, including exchanges Coinbase and Kraken. 8. Anthony Di Iorio $750m-$1b Di Iorio was an early investor in the hugely successful Ethereum network, and has since diversified his crypto profits, aiming to get in early on newer coins, including VeChain and Qtum. 9. Brock Pierce $700m-$1b Pierce was an early investor in a range of cryptocurrencies, including Mastercoin and Ethereum. He has made public plans to donate $1b to a DAO (decentralised autonomous organisation). 10. Michael Novogratz $700m-$1b Novogratz was a hedge fund manager who suffered huge losses in the 2008 financial crisis. His investments and trading in the crypto space led to a huge rebound in wealth, and he is now working on Galaxy Digital, a crypto bank operating in Canada. |

| body | Venezuela’s Cryptocurrency Petro Finds Foreign Investors, ICO To Take Place In March Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Trade and International Investment José Vielma Mora announced on Thursday, Feb. 8, that foreign investors will be accepting payments for their goods in petro, says Latin American government-sponsored news outlet TeleSur. The petro, an oil-backed state cryptocurrency set to be released in both a pre-sale and an Initial Coin Offering (ICO), was first announced by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in December 2017. The petro’s white paper released Jan. 30 explains that the idea for the petro came from Hugo Chavez, who had envisioned a “strong currency backed by raw materials.” Mora said that Brazilian businesspeople are prepared to invest $300 mln in Venezuela, beginning with a $100 mln inversion investment. The minister also listed Poland, Denmark, Honduras, Norway, and Vietnam as foreign countries that would be willing to receive petro in exchange for food and medicine, citing a total amount of $435 mln. According to Mora, Canada has also expressed interest in investing in Venezuela in the sphere of “pharmaceutics for humans and animals.” The petro is an ERC20 token that has been pre-mined on the Ethereum Blockchain, with each petro is backed by one barrel of oil. Maduro had ordered the issuance of 100 mln in petro on Jan. 14 in preparation for the pre-sale. The creation of the petro has been viewed skeptically by critics and members of the Venezuelan opposition parliament who consider the petro a fraudulent currency that could help Maduro avoid sanctions. The petro’s pre-sale will take place from Feb. 20 at -04:00 UTC to Mar. 19 at -04:00 UTC, and there will be 38.4 mln tokens available. Pre-sale tokens “may be exchanged for petro [coins] at any time between the launch date and the closing of the initial offer,” according to the white paper. The ICO will take place a day after the end of the pre-sale, Mar. 20 at -04:00 GMT, with 44 mln petro available for sale at a reference selling point of $60 - the price of a barrel of oil in Venezuela in the second week of Jan. 2018. The price is subject to market fluctuations, according to the white paper. The white paper writes that the Venezuelan government will accept petro as payment for national taxes, fees, and public services, and it will be regulated by the Cryptocurrency Superintendency and the National Blockchain Observatory. |

The petro’s white paper released Jan. 30 explains that the idea for the petro came from Hugo Chavez, who had envisioned a “strong currency backed by raw materials.”\n\nMora said that Brazilian businesspeople are prepared to invest $300 mln in Venezuela, beginning with a $100 mln inversion investment.\n\nThe minister also listed Poland, Denmark, Honduras, Norway, and Vietnam as foreign countries that would be willing to receive petro in exchange for food and medicine, citing a total amount of $435 mln. | body | Automated Crypto Solution to Make It Easier for Beginners to Start This is a submitted sponsored story. CCN urges readers to conduct their own research with due diligence into the company, product or service mentioned in the content below. A platform for intuitive building and running automated crypto trades will start an ICO on February, 7th. It won’t be easy for them to gain an audience as the 80% of trades on the market are reported to be done by bots. However Kryll project still has fair chances to get a market share. It’s a lot like Tilda, an easy-to-use responsive page builder requiring no coding skills, which has undergone a revolution in web design in recent years making it understandable and painless to use for a beginner, experts say. Simple Yet Powerful Waking up from a nightmare: the market is falling, money is lost – how many traders had such a frightful experience? The philosophy of Kryll project is aimed to solve the problem. Kryll is a platform for automatic crypto trading that provides intuitive ways to design sales and purchasing strategies. And not only to design. According to the project’s whitepaper, users will be able to experiment and test a strategy as long as they need until they are sure it’s really profitable. Payment will be only taken for live trading. “Through What You See Is What You Trade interface, you can design trading strategies making use of the industry’s most powerful tools and safely test them with backtesting and sandboxing. Once your tools prove their worth you can set them to live-trade on your behalf, taking the right positions at the right time, as if you’re following the markets,” – it says. A crypto strategy is built up like LEGO. One of the project’s main ideas is to make a user-friendly interface, including different blocks: market trends, trading actions, signals from professional traders or telegram channels and notifications to keep up with the news. One doesn’t have to have any coding skills to build a strategy. Additionally users will have plenty of logic operators (IF, ELSE, AND etc.) in order to make their script more flexible. The company has also announced to launch a mobile app. Kryll intends to create a strategy constructor, a sort of WordPress or Tilda for traders. The project offers a comprehensive multi-platform solution, and that may be its main advantage. I’ll also note the unusually high number of exchanges they’ve partnered with: Bittrex, Cryptopia, KuCoin, HitBTC, and more”, – says Denis Suslov, Chief Financial Officer at Finom AG. The World of Bots Crypto trading keeps on growing but the reality is that the market is now mostly controlled by bots. It is estimated that the automatically-made trades account up to 80% of all deals on the crypto market. Many experts agree on the fact that the best way to survive on such market is to take advantage of auto trading but not to rely on it solely – users still need to conduct their own analysis. “Advanced traders do use them and there are professional and institutional traders running their entire trading activity through automated strategies and algorithms. However, totally automated trading strategies, running 24/7 are still affected by market inefficiencies, especially buy lack of liquidity or gaps in prices which might very well occur given the level of volatility shown so far,” – says Roberto d’Ambrosio, CEO Alpari Research & Analysis Limited (UK). It’s not that cheap to use trading bots. The Haasbot, which is one of the most popular among cryptocurrency enthusiasts, takes between 0.12 BTC and 0.32 BTC per three-month period. The ones that are cheaper, like Tradewave, have only few strategies shared by community members for others. Kryll project is going to use “fuel” system. Tokens gained during the ICO (KRL) can be spent while using a strategy in live trading. The fee depends on the complexity of a task: the more complicated is a script – the more it costs. Collective Intelligence The platform will give users an opportunity to share a winning strategy with fellow traders and get rewarded with the passive income for doing so. Creators will be free to set their own fee in KRL for using their systeem by others. Moreover the developers plan to organize competitions where people will have to achieve the best performing strategy. The marketplace will also feature a chat section, whitepaper claims. Besides Kryll will organise hackathons for developers to build up new winning blocks to integrate in the platform. The project team has already designed about 50 blocks to release in future and the community can vote on the next ones to come. The project aims to raise up to $29 million through ICO starting in February. Minimum Purchase is 100 USD. Closed Alpha-version for investors will be released in summer, the full release is expected in early 2019. |

Bitcoin’s price has plunged by around $25billion in the past 24 hours and the cryptocurrency seems set to suffer more disappointing days on the markets. But Ran Neuner, CEO of OnChain Capital, told CNBC bitcoin will come back to hit the high-value levels reached in 2017. He said: “I’ve been tracking bitcoin since last year and it went up from $17,500 up to $20,000 in anticipation of the futures. “The futures were kind of an un-event. The event was the momentum play when people started to get into cryptocurrencies. “So you had these people, these retail investors, getting into cryptocurrency for possibly the wrong reasons. “They got into it because of the fear of missing out, they got into it because they wanted to make the money without understanding the technology. And the market went up. “But then the market started to come down and everyone who didn’t understand the technology turned around and said ‘hold on, why are we actually back here?’ But Ran Neuner, CEO of OnChain Capital, told CNBC bitcoin will come back to hit the high-value levels reached in 2017. And then I’m expecting some kind of something to bring up the green candle and that will start the momentum back up again. “Bitcoin is a store of value but it’s a new store of value and there’s not massive market adoption yet. And as we get mass market adoption then we can expect for it to become the universal store of value. The cryptocurrency expert claimed the only reason bitcoin is yet to become the universal store of value it is set to be, is because the technology behind cryptocurrencies is not ready yet. He said: “I always say, if we were going out to run a marathon, we’ve just parked our car and picked up the goody bag, we haven’t even got to the start line of cryptocurrency. “The technology isn’t ready to go mainstream yet. It’s very hard to open an account, it’s unscalable. “So, yes there is a new digital gold, a new digital store of value, I think bitcoin is the store of value, but the game hasn’t even started yet.” According to Coindesk at 10:54 pm on February 2, bitcoin price is $8,762.15, while its competitor Ripple is valued at $0.87. |

| body | Blockchain and Energy - Two Peas In a Pod Blockchain technology is the underlying framework upon which most cryptocurrencies operate and it has become one of the most important technological advances in the 21st century. Simply put, a Blockchain is a secure system that stores information. This is typically done in individual blocks which are encrypted, together forming a chain of secure data. Bitcoin’s Blockchain pioneered the technology as a transactional system. Its Blockchain is an electronic accounting ledger, with each block holding a finite amount of transactions made with the cryptocurrency. It is completely decentralized, with transactions verified by a worldwide network of miners. Here is where the issue of energy enters the picture. The truth is, cryptocurrency mining uses a lot of energy. That has put a spotlight on mainstream power production, which is mostly unclean and unsustainable. This has led to a new wave of Blockchain technology that looks to provide applications and innovations to the way we use energy and how we go about providing efficient data and transaction systems in the sector. By the numbers According to a research done by the event and consulting company Solarplaza, of the 90 companies included in its analysis, over 50 percent of Blockchain projects working within the energy space are based in Europe. The top three countries include the US, Germany and the Netherlands. Peer to peer trading projects account for the most use cases, while around 50 percent of these projects are using the Ethereum Blockchain. As an indicator of just how new this movement is, over 70 percent of these projects were formed between 2016 and 2017 - and one in four of the projects are planning an initial coin offering or token sale. P2P, utility, cryptocurrency, platforms, E-Vehicles The majority of these companies have peer-to-peer Blockchain systems that offer a plethora of industry related services. A number of projects are offering decentralized energy trading services. The likes of LO3 Energy, which developed the Brooklyn Microgrid which enables the community to buy energy through the platform. Producers of solar energy can sell excess green energy to other consumers connected on the platform. This is just one example of a multitude of ground-breaking offerings by companies providing platforms for people, businesses and industries to trade energy. It’s interesting to note energy giants BP, Shell and Statoil are part of a consortium developing an in-house Blockchain platform form energy commodities trade. Blockchain technology is also reforming energy utilities functions. A number of companies have pioneered Blockchain platforms. WEF award winners Electron set up platforms for energy meters, from user registrations to meter data privacy. A number of other utility-based projects are offering customers platforms that track energy consumption and provide cheaper energy prices available on the grid. This includes the likes of IBM, who teamed up with TenneT to create a pilot platform using Blockchain technology to balance supply and demand of electricity to ensure a supply of electricity. Of course, a number of cryptocurrencies have been created to facilitate energy trading platforms. A straightforward use case is Spectral energy’s Juliette coin, which is used by residents in an Amsterdam community to pay for electricity. ElectriCChain has created SolarCoin, which is a reward-based cryptocurrency for a network of affiliated solar power generators. For every MWh of electricity produced, you get one SolarCoin, which is roughly worth $0.50. A number of online energy platforms will also be present at the conference in Amsterdam. Many of these platforms offer global networks to create better communication between energy producers. They also offer a variety of applications that allow the industry to monitor energy production and consumption - for consumers and producers. There are platforms that offer supply chain solutions for energy commodities like oil and gas. Some offer platforms for consumers to browse the cheapest available energy options available in their country. Four projects in the report are directly aimed at the electric vehicle industry using Blockchain to help users manage and pay for charging stations and more specific needs like car sharing and rental. To top it off a number of projects are providing people with cutting-edge opportunities thanks to Blockchain technology. The Sun Exchange is an example of this. The project enables people to own solar panels in ideal locations around the world. The panels are then leased out, with the owners paid income in cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. Blockchain2Business While the list of energy projects involved into Blockchain becomes too long to list in one article, people that have a keen interest in Blockchain projects reforming the way we look at energy have now an interesting platform to participate in. In order to unite energy companies and Blockchain solutions providers, this February, Solarplaza organized its first Blockchain2Business conference in Amsterdam. A host of Blockchain companies that are pioneering the sector, from energy production to tokenization of energy, was brought together, as well as those who want to know more about opportunities offered by Blockchain. |

| body | Bitcoin price: Cryptocurrency expert explains why BTC is similar to gold BITCOIN price could reflect that of the gold commodity market because of their similarities, according to co-founder of the Gemini Exchange Cameron Winklevoss. Bitcoin had a market evaluation of $135 billion on Wednesday, according to CoinDesk data, after its price recovered from the plunge of the last few weeks. Cameron Winklevoss, CEO of Gemini Exchange, claimed the cryptocurrency will be worth 40 times its current value. Speaking on CNBC, Mr Winklevoss said: “Taking bitcoin in isolation, putting all the other assets aside, we believe bitcoin disrupts gold. “We think it's a better gold if you look at the properties of money. And what makes gold gold? Scarcity. “Bitcoin is actually fixed in supply so it's better than scarce and gold. It's more portable, it’s fungible, it's more durable. “It sort of equals a better gold across the board. “So if you look at a $100billion market cap today, now last week it might have been more like 200, so it's actually a buying opportunity, we think that there's a potential appreciation of 30 to 40 times because you look at the gold market today, it's a $7trillion market. “And so a lot of people are starting to see that, they recognise the store of value properties. “So we think regardless of the price moves in the last few weeks, it's still a very under appreciated asset.” According to Mr Winklevoss’ calculation, bitcoin could reach the value of $5trillion in 10 to 20 years time, taking its current market capitalisation of $135billion. But even at the lower $100billion market cap, a 40 times price appreciation would skyrocket the cryptocurrency’s value to $4trillion. According to CoinDesk at 9:55 pm on February 7, bitcoin price is $8,114.39. At the same time, its competitors ethereum and Ripple are respectively priced $817.04 and $0.76. |

| body | CFTC Chairman Shows Support For Cryptocurrency and Blockchain Projects by Suggesting "Do No Harm" Registrations Today, February 5, 2018, in written testimony presented before the Senate Banking Committee, J. Christopher Giancarlo, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), suggested a "do no harm" registration process of distributed ledger and cryptocurrency companies and startups. Giancarlo said, "Virtual currencies mark a paradigm shift in how we think about payments, traditional financial processes, and engaging in economic activity. Ignoring these developments will not make them go away, nor is it a responsible regulatory response." The written testimony, which came off mostly positive and supportive of distributed ledger technology, made comparisons between the dot-com era and the blockchain movement that is currently happening. Giancarlo went on to say, "'Do no harm' was unquestionably the right approach to the development of the internet. Similarly, I believe that 'do no harm' is the right overarching approach for distributed ledger technology." Contrary to public tensions about regulatory actions, both the SEC and CFTC statements have come across relatively positive about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency. The SEC chairman even said in a recent statement, "I believe that initial coin offerings--whether they represent offerings of securities or not--can be effective ways for entrepreneurs and others to raise funding, including for innovative projects." The written report did note that there were a number of outstanding issues as well, such as bad actors taking advantage of the space. "Indeed, history has demonstrated to us time and again that bad actors will try to invoke the concept of innovation in order to perpetrate age-old fraudulent schemes on the public," said Giancarlo. And that is to be expected. Any time there is a lot of excitement, interest, and sheer volume behind a movement, you're going to get bad actors trying to take advantage. It's good to see that regulators are taking this approach in weeding out bad actors but making it painless and simple for others to be in the space. Just like the boom of the internet itself, it would have never happened if regulators made new, impossible-to-follow laws to try to account for the new paradigm shift. If you think about it, the majority of these laws and acts were invented 50, 60, 70, even 80-plus years ago, in some cases. That was long before the computer, significantly before the internet, and very long before anyone even knew what a blockchain was. The regulators have the hard task of figuring out how to apply our great-grandparents' regulations to something that probably never even could have been dreamed up 80-plus years ago. However, it's positive and refreshing to see them taking reasonable steps without overstepping. I've been very happy with the support and positivity shown from U.S. regulators while they simultaneously swiftly deal with scams, fraud, and bad actors. |

| body | International Market Maintains Demand for Chinese Cryptocurrency Mining Hardware The future for manufacturers of bitcoin mining hardware in China appears bright despite reports that the Chinese central government will seek to rein in the power consumption of mining companies operating within its borders. Hong Kong-based media outlet, South China Morning Post, has reported that there is considerable international demand for Chinese mining hardware internationally – with Russian buyers representing a significant share of the industry’s demand. Russian Buyers Provide Demand for Chinese Mining Equipment South China Morning Post spent time with Alex, a 38-year-old Russian businessman visiting China to establish connections with bitcoin mining hardware retailers. The report states that Alex spent three days exploring central Shenzhen, where he compared the products offered by 30 different retailers. Alex claims to have had two or three trips to China over the last 15 years to purchase toys that he resells in Russia, however, this is the first trip that he has undertaken in order to purchase mining hardware. Alex states that when he first entered the bitcoin mining industry he purchased 200 units in Moscow, for which he paid a 20% premium when compared to the Chinese market. He states that there is far more to consider than just the prices of the hardware he inspects, emphasizing that “It’s about how to choose a true retailer [that I trust].” For Alex, Shenzhen, in particular, offers too many potential retailers to easily choose from. Mining Hardware Vendors Plentiful in Shenzen South China Morning Post recounted exploring the SEG Plaza in Huaqiangbei, Shenzen – a major manufacturing hub that has comprised a Special Economic Zone since the 1980’s. The report states that the plaza houses “vendors of mining machines scattered between the fourth and sixth floors in spaces originally occupied by sellers of computer components,” noting that “One mining shop had a Russian translation at the bottom of its ad.” Whilst South China Morning Post article states that “Russians dominate the list of foreign customers,” it is also reported that “Indians and other Europeans” comprise a significant share of the market demand for Chinese mining hardware. |
