Tommy istein selbstständiger und lustiger\nLKW-Fahrer dem ich ab und zu aushalf. Da er leider keine Vollzeitstelle zu vergeben hatte, verschaffte er\nmir aber einen Job in einer Schrankfabrik.\nHandwerklich war ich noch nie der Beste, durchgebissen hab ich mich jedoch schon immer und Geld\nbrauchte ich auch dringend. In Deutschland hatte ich schon immer im Vetrieb gearbeitet. Also war das hier absolutes Neuland.\nEs war aktuell Winter in Melbourne, der eisige Wind machte mir schwer zu schaffen. Der Arbeitsweg zur\nSchrankfabrik war leider ziemlich umständlich und weit weg vom Zentrum von Melbourne wo wir lebten.\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## How did i get the job?\n---\nI (Andy) got this job from Tommy. Tommy is a selfemployed funny Truckdriver. I helped him several\ntimes and worked for him. He didn't have a fulltimejob but he called the owner of the cupboard factory\nand brought me in.\nI'm not the best with a screwdriver and hammer but i always passed my tasks i had to do and i urgent\nneed the money. In Germany i always worked something with sales. Um es klar zu verdeutlichen: der Arbeitsweg\nwar mehr als SCHEIßE!\nWir hatten um Geld zu sparen gerade einen Mietvertrag in der Stadt unterschrieben. Mein Job befand sich\naber nun über eine Stunde weit entfernt weg. Das hieß für mich:\nAufstehen 04:10 Uhr\nZum Bahnhof 04:35 Uhr, ca. 15 Minuten laufen\nDen allerersten Zug um 05:00 Uhr nehmen\nNach 20 Minuten aussteigen und an einer einsamen Bushaltestelle, auf einer kalten Eisenbank, 12 Minuten\nauf meinen Bus warten.\nMit dem Bus 10 Minuten weiterfahren um dann ca. 20 Minuten im schnellen Schritt zur Arbeit zu laufen.\nMeist konnte ich mich gerade so um 06:00 einstupfen.\nHinzu kam eben winterbedingt ab und an Minusgrade und ein Wind, wie wir ihn in Deutschland nicht\nkennen. Der fährt  dir durch Mark und Bein.\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## Why did the way to work sucked so hard??\n---\nI started every morning at 6 o'clock until open-end. How can i say it in clear words: my way was really\nSHIT!\nTo save money we signed a contract for our room in the city in Melbourne. My job was now over one\nhour away, that means:\nGet up at 04:10 am.\nGo to the train station at 04.35 am: 15 min. walk.\nTake the very first train at 05:00 am.\nGet off the train after 20 minutes and wait 12 minutes for the bus at a bus station on a lonely cold steel\nbank.\nTake the bus for about 10 minutes, get off and almost run 20 minutes to the factory. Heißt: einem Schrankbrett welches schon an den Vorderseiten lackiert war, die Kante mit der gleichen Farbe zu versehen (ich hoffe ihr versteht was ich meine\n:-D?!).\nIm Prinzip für mich ein easy job. Alan, der Supervisor, hatte schnell gemerkt, dass ich was im Kopf habe\nund eine gute Arbeit ablieferte. Wir freundeten uns sehr schnell an. Ich bekam auch oftmals Frühstück\ngeschenkt, was mir sehr gefiel :-D.\nIch bekam 23 AUD die Stunde und arbeitet oftmals 10-12 Stunden am Tag. Ich war meist so gegen 18\n-19 Uhr wieder zu Hause.\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## The cupboard factory\n---\nMy job was to give edges a face. That means giving a board which is already coloured on its top and bottom  the same look with the suiting edge on its sites (i hope you know what i mean :-D).\nFor me it was an easy job. The Supervisor named Alan noticed very fast that i use my brain and did a\ngreat job. We became kind of friends, i think he liked me very much so he gave me often things to eat like\nbreakfast and stuff like that (I liked it :-D ).\n\nI earned 23 AUD per hour and worked most of the days 10-12 hours. Morgens ging ich  hundemüde zur Arbeit um mich dann mittels Energydrinks und Kaffee den Tag über wachzuhalten und Abends aß ich nur noch erschöpft etwas und ging gleich schlafen.\nNeben dem Arbeitsweg kam leider noch hinzu, dass in der Schrankfabrik das Rolltor immer offen blieb.\nDer eiskalte Wind zischte also den kompletten langen Tag durch die Halle. Alle Mitarbeiter arbeiteten mit\nmindestens 2 Pullovern, Mütze und Kapuze über dem Kopf. Sogar der Pausenraum war eisig kalt.\n\n---\n\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## The fucking bad thing about it\n---\nThe way to my work and back home was very exhausting. In the morning i went really tired to the\nfactory. I drunk energy drinks and coffee to keep me alive. After work i just ate something and went straight\nto bed.\nEven worse: the big door from the factory where the trucks came in was open all day long. The wind was\nfreezing the whole day. All of my mates worked with two jumpers, a beanie and the hoodie cap (is that\nthe name for it, i dont know :-D) over the head. Die Pommes sollten außen einen gold\ngeben und krossen Touch bekommen, sowie noch einen saftigen Kern enthalten (sie schmeckten super\nlecker).\nDas habe ich den lieben langen Tag gemacht, zu Stoßzeiten sogar mit 4 Frittierkörben zur gleichen Zeit.\nJulia war an der Kasse und verkaufte das Essen. Manchmal standen die Leute in Schlangen an, die länger\nals 30 Meter waren (wir hatten übrigens 4-5 Schlangen zur gleichen Zeit).\nWir bekamen 15 AUD auf die Hand,  arbeiteten meist 10-12 Stunden am Tag.\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## Making fries and hamburgers\n---\nWe started working on a food truck at some festivals and at the Formula One Grand Prix in Melbourne.\nMy job (Andy) was to deep frie the frozen french fries. They should be cross and golden at the outside\nand smooth at the inside (they were yummy).  I did that the whole day. Viele fordern natürlich Erfahrung in dem jeweiligen Job, 90% alle Backpacker logen/lügen das sich die Balken biegen.\nNach einer gewissen Zeit mussten wir das auch tun. (das ist wie beim professionellen Bodybuilding, du kannst es zwar Natural probieren und alles geben, Erfolg auf der Bühne wirst aber keinen haben).\nEs gibt Jobs, da bekommst du nur fürs Flyer verteilen über 20 AUD pro Stunde oder nur für das Stoppschild auf Baustellen halten, über 30 AUD pro Stunde. Meistens sind es aber Jobs im 20 AUD-Bereich oder Schwarzarbeit für 15-18 AUD.\n\n \n\n \n\n---\n\n</div>\n\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n \n\n## The opportunities\n\n \n\n---\n\nThere are many ways to find a job in Australia. You can work in hospitality, at the construction side or on a farm. We had so many different jobs, but every job had his bad side (s)! Woher hatten wir diesen nun? Wir hatten bevor wir nach Australien geflogen sind, natürlich mit jedem der schon einmal WoT in Australien gemacht hatte, darüber intensiv gesprochen und Kontakte eingeholt. Wir hatten einen Tipp+Kontakt von unserem Freund Robert (vielen Dank an dieser Stelle an dich) zu einer Firma bekommen, die Möbel und Geschirr für Feierlichkeiten im großen Stil verleiht und aufbaut.\nDort hatten wir im Vorfeld Kontakt aufgenommen und uns über den Robert empfehlen lassen. Der Plan ging auf, wir hatten einen Job beide mit ca. 22 AUD pro Stunde und legal angemeldet. HURRA!\n\n \n\n \n\n---\n\n</div>\n\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n \n\n## The first Job after 1.5 weeks\n\n \n\n---\n\nAfter countless applications and many donuts and chocolate bars, we found a job!\nWhere did we get the job from?? Before we flew to Australia, we talked to every person we knew, whose have been already working in Australia.\nOur friend Robert gave us the contactdetails to a company, which rents out furniture and crockery for celebrations and festivals (thanks again Robert).\nWe got in touch with this company and told them, we come with best wishes from Robert. It worked out, we had a job, we both were paid hourly 22 AUD. Damit meinen wir, geh in große Industriegebiete außerhalb der Stadtzentren und gehe direkt zu den Firmen. (unsere Möbelverleihfirma war dort auch ansäßig)\n\nJungs haben sehr gute Chancen als Möbelpacker, diese werden immer gesucht.\n\nHast du ein gelerntes Handwerk wie Schreiner, Maurer oder ähnliches, verdienst du hier ein Vermögen (30-45 AUD sind hier normal)\n\nSpreche mit jedem Backpacker der dir über den Weg läuft, irgendeiner weiß immer etwas oder kennt einen der einen kennt.\n\nIn Hostels gibt es Schwarze Bretter, schaue dort immer drauf (so haben wir einen Job in der Gastro gefunden)\n\nMöchtest du Flyer verteilen, frag die Flyerverteiler an wen du dich wenden sollst (so haben wir ein weiteres Jobangebot bekommen)\n\nMöchtest du auf einer Farm arbeiten, suche Farmenballungsgebiete heraus und fahre direkt dort hin und spreche mit dem Farmer (hat in einer Notsituation auf einer Tomatenfarm geklappt)\n\nSchau in diversen Facebookgruppen nach Job-offers und bewerbe dich umgehend\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n---\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n</div>\n\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n \n\n## How can you find a job, our Tipps for you:\n\n \n\n---\n\nLike we said before, we had many different jobs, we tell you now our knowlegde how to get these the best way:\n\n \n\nLook for jobs where other people don't look for it. What we mean is, go to big places where the industrie has its place, out of the city and go directly to the company. (our Furniture rental company was there as well)\n\nFor guys: you have good chances to work as a removalist, there are always job offers\n\ndo you have qualifications as a carpenter ######## or something like that: GREAT! You will earn tons of money (30-45 AUD is standard)\n\ntalk with every Backpacker you see about jobs. Somebody will know something or know somebody who knows something or somebody :-D\n\nat Hostels you can find a Job Board. Go there and apply immediately. (we found one job in hospitality with that)\n\nYou want to distribute flyers, then ask the flyer distributors who to contact (we had one job offer from doing that)\n\nYou wanna work on a farm, then go to areas where many farms are located and ask the farmer for work (we worked on a tomato-farm, because we just asked)\n\nLook and join different Facebookgroups, there are often job offers, apply immediately!\n\n \n\n \n\n---\n\n</div>\n\n \n![IMG_5061.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmQnzW8KH3vUVz2XRneMeyFR2vHFWTpRhPv6AvTpa7Bw2w/IMG_5061.JPG)\n \n\n<div class=\"pull-left\">\n\n \n\n \n\n## Wo sind jetzt die Haken an den Jobs?\n\n \n\n---\n\nDu musst dir im Klaren sein, dass du immer nur ein kleiner Backpacker bist und so wirst du meist auch behandelt.\nIn den meisten Firmen gibt es Fulltimer, saisonale Fulltimer und Backpacker.\nFulltimer sind in der Hierarchie natürlich ganz oben und bekommen bessere Schichten, sind nicht so leicht Kündbar (nach einer gewissen Zeit) etc.\n\nAls Backpacker bekommst du oftmals zu wenige Schichten, da die Fulltimer natürlich als erstes versorgt werden.\nDu bekommst Zwischenschichten oder Samstag auf Sonntag eine Nachtschicht und Sonntags sofort wieder eine Spätschicht.\nDie doofen Aufgaben werden fast ausschließlich an die Backpacker abgegeben.\nEs war bei uns sehr oft der Fall, das wir nur 2-3 Schichten die Woche bekamen, das war zu wenig zum sparen und reichte gerade so um zu leben.\nDa du aber erst immer einen Tag vor der neuen Woche wusstest, wie du eingeteilt wurdest, konntest du auch keinen weiteren Job einfach so annehmen.\nDu wusstest außerdem nie wie viele Stunden du am Tag arbeiten wirst, wenn Schluss war, war halt Schluss :-D.\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n---\n\n \n\n \n\n \n\n</div>\n\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n \n\n## So what are the bad things we told you?\n\n \n\n---\n\nYou have one thing to know, you are always a small backpacker and you will be treated like that.\n\nMost of the companies have fulltimers, seasonal fulltimers and backpackers.\nFulltimers are the most powerful employes and get the best shifts , the best working times and can't get fired so easily (after a bit of time)\n\nThe backpackers will get the rest of the shifts, most of the times, you will get too less shifts. You will get the shitty shifts like a nightshift from saturday to sunday and right on this sunday you have to do the lateshift.\n\nThe dumb tasks will go to the backpackers.\n\nMost of the times we only got 2-3 shifts per week, it was too less to save enough money, just for paying the bills.\n\nThe damn thing was, you never knew how you'll work the next week. They tell you about one day before. So you can't take a second job. Für die meisten wahrscheinlich zum schmunzeln aber für mich war es in dem Moment der pure Horror.\nTotal übermüdet und hungrig in dem für mich gänzlich unbekannten Australien stehen wir in einem 6-Bett Zimmer in unserem Hostel. Für mich eine völlig neue Situation, da wir zu Hause schon unsere eigene Wohnung mit 80 qm hatten und nun hab ich nur noch das obere Quartier von einem Stockbett inkl. einem kleinen Spind. \n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## Not the best combo\n\n---\n\nHaving the worst Jetlag in your life and then you are standing in your home for the next few weeks. Beim essen trifft man immer viele neue Leute, was wirklich der größte Vorteil an so einem Hostel ist. Because it is so full and you can just hope that everything is still inside the next day. For a little deposit you get cutlery and grocery to lock in your sompartment. If you forget to lock it there is maybe one fork or mug less the next day. The best thing is that you meet so many people especially in the kitchen. Ich wäre am liebsten sofort wieder zur Tür raus und nach Hause geflogen. Für die meisten wahrscheinlich zum schmunzeln aber für mich war es in dem Moment der pure Horror.\nTotal übermüdet und hungrig in dem für mich gänzlich unbekannten Australien stehen wir in einem 6-Bett Zimmer in unserem Hostel. Für mich eine völlig neue Situation, da wir zu Hause schon unsere eigene Wohnung mit 80 qm hatten und nun hab ich nur noch das obere Quartier von einem Stockbett inkl. einem kleinen Spind. \n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## Not the best combo\n\n---\n\nHaving the worst Jetlag in your life and then you are standing in your home for the next few weeks. I just wanted to turn around and take the next flight home. Maybe most of us will laugh about this but for me it was just horror at this moment. So tired and hungry and then you are in the foreign country Australia standing in the 6-bed-room in our Hostel.       "body": "<div class=\"pull-left\">\n\n## (Alp)Traum?\n---\n\nDrei Tage gefangen auf einem kleinen Boot. Kein laufendes Wasser und die Betten so klein, dass sie eigentlich nur für eine Person geeignet sind. Wir haben 35 °C und unter Deck sind es gefühlte 45 °C. Kein Ventilator. \nFür mich nicht die schönste Erfahrung die ich bis jetzt so gemacht habe. Aber ohne hätte ich nie einer der schönsten Orte in meinem Leben erkunden dürfen: die Whitsunday Islands.\n\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## Dream or nightmare?\n---\n\n\nThree days on a little boat. No running water and the beds are so small that they normally just fit for one person. We have 96 °F and under deck its felt like 113 °F. No Aircondition.\nFor me it was not the best experience in my life. Egal an welche Farbe du denkst, du kannst dir sicher sein, dass hinter der nächsten Koralle ein Fisch in genau diesen Farben auf dich wartet. Es war wirklich atemberaubend schön. Diese Stille unter Wasser und plötzlich schwimmt in aller Ruhe eine Schildkröte an dir vorbei. So nah, dass du fast ihren Panzer berühren kannst. Riesige Stachelrochen, der Stachel so dick wie mein Arm liegen ruhig auf dem Meeresgrund. Die Zeit verflog so schnell aber das Glücksgefühl ist bis heute da, wenn ich daran denke.\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## Turtle & Co.\n\n---\n\nLuckily we weren´t often on the boat because the most of the time we spent under water snorkeling. It doesn´t matter at which colour you are  thinking of, you can be sure behind the next coralle there is a fish waiting in exactly this colours. It was unbelievable beautiful. This silence under water and suddenly there is calmy swimming a big turtle beside you. So close you can easily touch it. Huge stingrays lying on the ground, there sting is so thick like my arm. The time ran so fast but the pure feeling of joy last until now.\n\n---\n</div>\n\n\n![20170120_122045.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXKXJSMfZYgayYH1W2n4oDwVwYL4c9U7bVubeNhQEPnir/20170120_122045.jpg)\n\n<div class=\"pull-left\">\n\n## Das Paradies \n\n---\n\nAm zweiten Tag gab es das nächste Highlight der Reise: wir erkundeten den Whitsunday Island National Park. \nAlso ab ins Schlauchboot und an Land gedüst. Es geht einen schmalen Pfad über die Insel entlang, vorbei an ein paar wirklich riesigen schwarzen Andreaskreuzspinnen und (den mir viel lieberen) Eidechsen. Wir schwitzen selbst unter dem Schatten der vielen Bäume obwohl wir nicht mehr als Badesachen tragen. Dann werden die Bäume immer weniger und plötzlich stehen wir auf einer Lichtung mit dem wohl schönsten Blick auf den Whitehaven Beach. \nUnd der Strand macht seinem Namen alle Ehre! Der Sand ist so fein und weiß, dass es selbst mit Sonnenbrille noch blendet. Das Wasser ist so klar, dass wir sogar von hier oben noch die kleinen Rochen im Wasser schwimmen sehen. Nach dem wir den Anblick erst mal kurz verdaut haben, wollen wir nur noch eins: ab ins Wasser. Es fühlt sich an wie auf Puderzucker zu laufen und bei jedem Schritt quitscht der Sand, weil er so fein ist. (Nicht das ich in meiner Freizeit oft auf Puderzucker laufe aber so muss es sich bestimmt anfühlen!) Das Wasser fühlt sich so erfrischend an und wir genießen einfach nur den Augenblick...\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## The paradise\n\n---\n\nOn the next day the second highlight on our boat trip is waiting: we get to explore the Whitsunday Island National Park. We get to land by a paddleboat and then we walk a little path trough the island, beside some really big black spiders and some little lizards. We are sweating under the shadow of the trees even we are just wearing some swimwears. Suddenly the trees get less and we are standing on a platform with the most stunning view of the Whitehaven Beach. And the beach deserves it name: the sand is so fine and white that it´s dazzling even with sunglasses. The water is so clear that we can see the little stingrays swimming in the water even from this distance.\nAfter the first postive shock we just want to get in the water. It feels like walking on clouds and every step is squeking. Ich bin froh, bald wieder an Land zu sein mit einer schönen Dusche und einen bequemen Bett. \nAber ganz ehrlich: ich würde den Bootausflug immer wieder buchen, denn so schöne Erinnerungen sind selten.\n\n---\n</div>\n<div class=\"pull-right\">\n\n## WTF is goon?!\n\n---\n\nWith a BBQ and a cheap wine (5 Liter for 5 AUD = called Goon) we enjoy the beautiful sunset on the boat. I´m happy to be on land again soon with a long shower and a comfortable bed.\nBut it would do this trip again and again.
