The only thing standing in the way of further profits was himself! I’ve learned that the best trading strategy is coincidentally the easiest: Do nothing, buy and hold.\n\nWe saw the creation and proliferation of hundreds of crypto assets. Did the project have a friendly website and a white paper? That was good enough for the ICO to <a href=\"https://cointelegraph.com/news/research-20-billion-raised-through-icos-since-2017\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">raise tens of million</a>s. However, nowadays the landscape is dramatically different.\n\nMany of these well-funded projects have gone underwater and were washed out in the 2018 Bear Market. The Crypto Markets have matured. Although there are still scammy projects out there, for the most part, investors are more knowledgeable, and their bullshit detector is stronger.\n\nIt is fair to say that Crypto wasn’t ready for the incredible price explosion in 2017. Exchanges couldn’t control the flood of new customers, <a href=\"https://coinbase-consumer.sjv.io/MWaYJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coinbase</a> only had three cryptos available on their platform, and everyone suddenly quit their jobs to become a day-trader. Things are much, much different this time around.\n\nThe infrastructure is more robust than ever. Only the most reliable and most secure exchanges remain, with Binance emerging as the global leader. Coinbase now offers dozens of crypto’s on their platforms and has plans to make available over 100+ cryptocurrencies. Bitcoin is now as easy to invest in as any stock, with Robinhood and E-Trade offering the crypto. The <a href=\"https://www.forbes.com/sites/dantedisparte/2019/01/29/gemini-the-winklevoss-twins-break-new-ground-on-digital-trust/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Winklevoss Twins launched their crypto exchange</a> called Gemini. The list goes on…\n\nI believe that we are on the verge of the most remarkable Bull Run of any asset in the history of the world. Fundamentally, everything is stronger than ever before, and the systems are in place to handle massive price increases. It is only a matter of time.\n\nThat being said, unlike the Bull Run of 2017 where everyone alt-coin went verticle, only a select few crypto’s will break out. Ok, maybe finish this article first…\n\nThe cryptocurrency exchange <a href=\"https://www.binance.com/?ref=16888308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Binance</a> rose to first place on the global exchange leaderboards in just five months. In March of 2019, Binance recorded an average daily volume of around $800 million with millions of active users. They are expanding at an astounding clip, with operations coming to New Jersey in the United States and increased offering for FIAT exchanges with support for Euro, British Pound, and more!\n\nOverall, Binance has been a bright spot for the cryptocurrency ecosystem by injecting investment for various blockchain projects through Launchpad. They have so many projects underway, including a decentralized exchange (DEX) that could prove to be a potential disrupter for the centralized exchange business. Overstating the impact and influence of Binance is difficult.\n\nThe recent news of coins merging onto the Binance Coin (BNB) blockchain has many speculating on if it will overtake Ethereum has the 2nd largest cryptocurrency (although BNB doesn’t support smart contracts). At the time of writing this, one of my favorite cryptocurrencies TRON is <a href=\"https://coingape.com/tron-hits-hard-fork-announcement-aims-new-features/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">undergoing a hard fork</a>. I plan on selling the crypto “dividends” immediately as soon as its listed on an exchange!\n\nIn this article, I would like to cover a slightly more advanced method for earning passive income with cryptocurrency called staking. Staking is a method of mining cryptocurrency where a user stakes their coins to help validate new transactions on the blockchain using the <a href=\"https://blockgeeks.com/guides/proof-of-work-vs-proof-of-stake/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proof of Stake</a> algorithm.\n<h3><strong>Proof of Stake vs. Proof of Work</strong></h3>\nBitcoin uses the <a href=\"https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Proof_of_work\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Proof of Work (PoW)</a> mining algorithm where an individual's power to successfully mine cryptocurrency increases with more computer processing power. Proof of Stake (PoS) operates similar to PoW, however the miner's ability to successfully mine cryptocurrency increases with a higher amount of coins staked. An individual can only mine or validate new transactions for coins equal to the number of coins they staked. The more coins a user stakes, the higher their power is to verify transactions.\n\nFor example, conceptually if a user controlled 25% of all the coins and staked them, they are enabled  to mine 25% of all future coins.\n\nMany industry leaders argue that the Proof of Staking algorithm is superior to Proof of Work. There are certainly issues with both. Proof of Work is effective because attackers need to gain 51% of the computing power of the network to hack it. PoW is terrific for large networks like Bitcoin and Ethereum, but not for smaller ones. When Ethereum split into two independent chains – <a href=\"https://walkthewire.blog/how-buy-sell-ethereum-classic-etc-coinbase/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ethereum Classic</a> and Ethereum – it was more affordable to gain more than half of Ethereum Classic's network computing power and attack it. To date, Bitcoin has stood the test of time and hackers have never successfully attacked it proving the usefulness of Proof of Work.\n\nOn the flip side, Proof of Stake eliminates major security issues associated with Proof of Work, such as the 51% attack. If a hacker would like to attack a coin using PoS, they would need to purchase 51% of all the coins. Because the hacker needs to spend a great deal of money to buy coins, it would destroy the incentive to attack the network since the hacker is the majority stakeholder and he would suffer the most.\n\nWhether you prefer PoW or PoS for the security of a blockchain, Proof of Stake is far superior for earning passive income. It requires minimal technical knowledge, and you can get started staking cryptocurrency right away.\n\nBelow are three cryptocurrencies I am currently staking and earning passive income.\n<h1><strong>Best Crypto's to Stake for Passive Income</strong></h1>\n<h2><strong>1) TRON</strong></h2>\n<a href=\"https://www.binance.com/?ref=16888308\"><img class=\"aligncenter wp-image-579\" src=\"https://walkthewire.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/TRON_Walk_the_Wire_Logo.jpg\" alt=\"trx tron cryptocurrency\" width=\"696\" height=\"348\" /></a>\n\nTRON has been on FIRE in 2019 and has by far given me the most substantial return on investment out of any coin this year.\n\nTRON is an ambitious project dedicated to the establishment of a decentralized Internet and its infrastructure. In December, the markets were exploding upwards, and NEO skyrocketed from below $1 to over $115.\n\nThe price of GAS climbed with it. Each day I was waking up with more and more gas, selling it, and buying more NEO which in turn earned me more GAS. A beautiful cycle! Cardano aka “the Asian Ethereum” is one of my absolute favorite projects in the entire crypto ecosystem. Founded by Charles Hoskinson, a co-founder of Ethereum, he created Cardano to be a more balanced and sustainable ecosystem for cryptocurrencies.\n\nMark my words; Cardano will be a dominant player in the next Bull Run. In the next few months, Cardano will shift towards a staking consensus mechanism. Turning to staking could drive demand as people move to stake Cardano and in a bull market, could boost ADA to new highs.\n\nThere are so many reasons I love Cardano, but the main reason is because of the development team IOHK. They are extremely, extremely solid. Additionally, Coinbase has already announced plans to add Cardano to its platform.\n\nNow is an excellent time to start accumulating Cardano with the price at $0.04. It is still in the early days of the blockchain revolution, but the transfer and redistribution of wealth are well underway. A whole new world of sound digital money is here.\n\nThe question I am most often asked is “How do I earn passive income with crypto”?\n\nThere are so many different ways to earn passive income with cryptocurrency. The good news is if you are already holding some crypto, then you probably already are making passive income, you may just not know it. If you don’t, then you will want to buy some pretty quick or risk missing out.\n\nI will explain the easiest way to earn passive income with cryptocurrency, but first, let me explain Passive Income.\n<h2><strong>Make Money While You Sleep</strong></h2>\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-984\" src=\"https://walkthewire.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/passive-income-crypto.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"752\" height=\"440\" />\n\n<a href=\"https://www.investopedia.com/terms/p/passiveincome.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Passive income</a> is money that flows in regularly without needing a substantial amount of effort to create it. Through an upfront investment of either time or money (usually both), after you get the ball rolling not much effort is required after that for money to flow in.\n\nTraditionally rental income from real estate, lending, and dividend stocks are the primary sources of passive income. However, cryptocurrency has created new sources of passive income that previously weren’t possible. As an investor, the goal should be to eventually earn enough passive income to support them or at least pad their income.\n<h2><strong>Cryptocurrency Dividends</strong></h2>\nIn traditional finance, a dividend is the distribution of reward from a portion of the company’s earnings paid to its shareholders. Dividends are distributed as cash payments, shares of stock, or by other means, but cash dividends are the most common. Although the IRS doesn’t define dividends as passive income, dividend stocks are by far the easiest way for investors to earn passive income.\n\n<a href=\"https://www.thebalance.com/what-is-a-dividend-356103\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Dividends</a> are no longer restricted to stocks. I’m not aware of any cryptocurrency that actually promises investors dividends, but perhaps by mistake, this is precisely what many cryptocurrencies are doing. Every time a cryptocurrency hard forks, a snapshot of the blockchain is taken and everyone holding that cryptocurrency is also credited with the hard fork currency. If you are reading this, then you probably had already heard of the contentious hard fork of Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash back in November 2017.\n\nRoger Ver aka “<a href=\"https://www.cnbc.com/2018/05/15/why-bitcoin-jesus-is-so-bullish-about-bitcoin-cash.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bitcoin Jesus</a>” has accomplished many great things in his career and has been among the biggest supporters of Bitcoin. He opened the eyes of thousands of people to and even gave many of them their very first <a href=\"https://walkthewire.blog/how-buy-sell-bitcoin-coinbase/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bitcoin</a> – hence his nickname Bitcoin Jesus. These hard forks of Bitcoin aren’t currently even close to their all-time high, but I’m trying to make a point.\n\nWhat do I do when I receive these free hard fork “dividends”? I sell them immediately and buy more Bitcoin. The easiest way to earn passive income with cryptocurrency is… to do nothing! Just hold Bitcoin.\n\nI may be oversimplifying how easy it is to earn passive income by holding Bitcoin. There are a couple of different factors to ensure that you actually credited with the various hard forks. Perhaps the most crucial element of receiving passive income with Bitcoin is to control your private keys.\n<h3><strong>What is a Private Key?</strong></h3>\n<img class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-866\" src=\"https://walkthewire.blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/trezor-hardware-wallet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" />\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">“If you don’t own your private keys, then you don’t own your Bitcoin.”</p>\n</blockquote>\nI cannot stress how important it is to hold your private keys, but I will try.\n\nEvery Bitcoin address contains two digital keys: a public key and a private key. The public key is shared with everyone to communicate with others in the network. Imagine a public key is the same as your email address. On the flip side, a private key is used to access bitcoins in a wallet. Think of a private key the same as using a password to access your email account.\nEvery Bitcoin address has its own unique set of public and private keys. People can send bitcoin to a public key, but only the person with the private keys can access the bitcoin inside the wallet.\n\nNow I know, I mentioned above that Coinbase credited my account. It is bad practice to hold Bitcoin or cryptocurrency on any exchange – even a trusted exchange like Coinbase. Not only is your crypto vulnerable to attacks from hackers targeting exchanges, but you also (usually) don’t get to participate in receiving Bitcoin “dividends.”\n\nFor example, there was a massive uproar in the community when Coinbase users didn’t receive the most well-known fork of Bitcoin called Bitcoin Cash. As the price of <a href=\"https://walkthewire.blog/how-buy-sell-bitcoin-cash-bch-coinbase/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Bitcoin Cash</a> was rising, users who held their Bitcoin on an exchange like Coinbase had to wait months and months before Coinbase granted them access. Additionally, other forks like Bitcoin Gold or even forks of Bitcoin Cash itself have never been given to individual wallets on Coinbase.\n\nIn Coinbase’s defense, it would be complicated for them to reward all of their users each and every fork of Bitcoin. That would require extensive development and testing before they made any digital currency available for trading on their platform.\n<h2><strong>Earn Passive Income With Other Crypto's</strong></h2>\nNot only are their hard forks of Bitcoin, but there are also hard forks of hard forks of Bitcoin! Recently there was a hard fork of Bitcoin Cash called Bitcoin SV – which is actually what Coinbase credited me with above. However, crypto dividends don’t stop with Bitcoin.\n\nIf you’re like me, then there is no way you just hold Bitcoin. You also hold Ethereum, Litecoin, Zcash, Monero, and many others. One of the more famous and widely accepted hard forks of Ethereum is Ethereum Classic, which got to as high as $50 last year (although you could argue Ethereum Classic is the original chain).\n\nSo what are you waiting for? If you’re holding ANY cryptocurrency on an exchange – get it off right now!\n\nFor the majority of my trading, I use Binance, which I highly recommend! <a href=\"https://www.binance.com/?ref=16888308\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sign up through Binance</a> to buy cryptocurrency and start earning passive income! Another alternative is <a href=\"https://coinbase-consumer.sjv.io/QGyaP\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Coinbase</a>, but they have limited cryptocurrencies available on their platform.\n\nJust make sure to transfer your cryptocurrency to your own private keys.
