| title | Charlie Kaufman's Synecdoche, New York; A Move Beyond Post Modernism In Film |
| body |

Charlie Kaufman’s 2008 directorial debut Synecdoche, New York is a layered and complex exploration into the human psyche and the limitations of art. The man at the center of the story, Caden (Philip Seymore Hoffman) is in a dead-end marriage doing dead-end theatre that he is not happy with. Suddenly his wife leaves, and everything improves for both of them. For his wife, she finds success and fame in Germany. Caden however is left alone and broken but is granted a MacArthur grant. He decides to put on a huge original theatrical piece that will cement his legacy and finally will be something he has done all on his own. What he does instead is embark on a two decade long surreal exploration that sees him recreating his life, and practically all of New York inside a Wearhouse. All the while fear of death looms and questions about what it all means linger for long stretches. But Synecdoche, New York is more than just a surreal film about death and art, it pushes the notion of how a story can approach a theme. Death is simultaneously fiercely feared, but calmly accepted. Art imitates life, but that life is only imitating something else. Questions are raised right and left, and no clear answer is given at any point. While this is nothing new, the way that the film accomplishes this dichotomy, though complete sincerity, and belief in grand narratives and ideologies challenges many troupes of Post-Modernism. Boundary pushing films like Synecdoche, New York seem to indicate that a transition is happening where art is moving beyond Post-Modernism influences, in a way that Cinema of Attraction indicated a move from classicism to the beginnings of modernism.

Post-Modernism was a complete flip around from Modernism and included the rejection of most of its ideas. Attitudes of skepticism, irony and a rejection toward grand narratives and ideologies rose to prominence much like an angsty teen coming into their own. Synecdoche, New York however does not have this irony. Instead it treats everything with complete sincerity, while on a quest to fulfil a grand narrative. Caden is always shown as a serious man trying his hardest to put a stamp on the world. However, this is not simply a return to Modernism ideas that Post-Modernism rejected. The complexities and levels of complete faith and seriousness the film puts in Caden’s massive quest seems to show that both ideas have takeaways, but also flaws.

One take on the overall meaning to the films central plot is David Crewe. Like the film does at many points, he tiptoes the line between two contradictory ideas, he says “The ultimate hubristic failure of Caden's Project--which, seventeen years after its inception, has no audience-- could be read as commentary on the insularity of art and its inability to capture life ... or entirely the opposite” ("Stages of Life."). Both sides of the argument seem to be competing to win out, but Crewe is unable to pick a winner. The film shows on one hand the insularity of art – a Post-Modern thought, that art is incapable of revealing the truth of the authors experience - through Caden’s project, which increasingly becomes more and more concerned with portraying the exact particulars of Caden’s life, as actors are hired to play real life people in Caden’s life, and then become people in Caden’s life, at which point actors are hired to play them. Caden’s self interest in only himself pushes everyone in his life away, and ultimately, he is unable to draw an audience to speak to, because the only one his creation can speak to is Caden.

On the other hand, Kaufman subverts the idea of insularity by the very act of making a film about the insularity of art. The audience identifies with Caden’s ambitious, but ultimately doomed task of recreating his own life, as the increase of social media in the average person’s life makes documentation of our experiences more normal. But we know, just as well as Caden that we can never truly communicate the particulars of our lives to others. The widespread accessibility to this idea of the self not being able to be fully portrayed challenges the notion that art is unable to capture life. Instead the film insists life is art, and art is just capturing it and saying, “Look at this!” We see this in the film as several important moments in Caden’s life are recreated and revisited on set, to emphasize that these moments carried weight in Caden’s life. For example, his father’s funeral, or the rooftop he tried to jump off, and eventfully Sammy, the man who plays Caden does jump off. Ultimately this tiptoeing between the contrasting ideas allows the film to say they are both right, one can not truly explain how it feels to be themselves, but as we all share this same dilemma, that creates a bond in its own right.

While there are many other implications and interpretations about the different parts of and the film at large, I feel this is one that Kaufman wanted to make outward and important. While the title alludes to the real-life town in New York, the spelling points to a literary devise, a synecdoche; something that is a reference to a greater whole, like wheels refers to a car, or vise versa where something that is a whole is a reference to a smaller entailed thing, like when referring to Minnesota winning a Wild Card berth it can be inferred that speaker is referring to the Minnesota Twins. This in essence is what Kaufman is doing with the film. It references a wider feeling that can not collectively be pinned down. By showing a single instance of this feeling in a single, tragic character however, Kaufman can use the film as a synecdoche for the collective aching of the words populous, unable to truly express itself. The audience can then take away both a feeling that no one else can feel, but the collective feeling that is having a feeling that no one else can feel.

This kind of boundary pushing in indicative of a potential culture shift, but it takes a trend to change the period’s prevailing movements. There are trends however, that we can all see are reshaping things, and Synecdoche, New York has some influences from these trends, and arguably exemplifies them. Anne Friedberg argues that cinema is being changed by modern technologies when she says:

“As this millennium draws to an end, the cinema - a popular form of entertainment for almost a century - has been dramatically transformed. it has become embedded in - or perhaps lost in- the new technologies that surround it. One thing is clear: We can note it in the symptomatic discourse inflected with the atomic terms of the "media fusion' or "convergence' or the pluralist inclusiveness of 'Multimedia' - the differences between the media of movies, religions, and computers are rapidly diminishing.” (“The End of Cinema : Multimedia and Technological Change.”)

The line between TV and movies is as blurred as its ever been, as many people watch most movies at home or on the internet. Increasingly art is becoming more personal as a massive boom in content has come with the wide spread ability to create and distribute content. People who have seen the same content are able to connect through that. At the heart of this new culture of spectatorship, Synecdoche, New York’s idea that the individual is vividly there, but hard to communicate can be seen as an exploration into the idea of connection. Perhaps this will be a popular topic to muse about in a world where everyone is a couple clicks away from being in contact with anyone.

While no one can predict what the next cultural trend or important issues to address is, looking back at the past, its easy to see when and where certain ideas grew from. As such a look back can provide insight into the future. Tom Gunning discusses how the cinema of attraction grew out of the transitional epoch between classicism and modernism. He writes “To summaries, the cinema of attractions directly solicits spectator attention, inciting visual curiosity, and supplying pleasure though an exciting spectacle - a unique event, weather fictional or documentary” ("The Cinema of Attractions”). Classicism was rooted in ideas of realism and romantic ideas of the world. The cinema of attraction went against this grain completely, and arose in the transitional period between the old and the new. Modernism completely rejects the idea of realism and instead aims for the spectacular. The spectacle then becomes more important than the subject. While Classicism was interested in specific, and realistic items, the Cinema of attractions fed the notion that the experience of the event and its surrounding discourse is just as important as the content of the event.

Approaching it by looking at the past as a map for the future, the transitional period between Classicism and Modernism can be seen as the eventual if not already beginning of the modern shift of Post-Modernism to whatever is beyond that. Where in cinema of attraction grew out of the rise of modernism, the rise of the internet, and other technologies that have vastly impacted cinema can be seen to have grown with the rise of something past Post-Modernism. Responses to this will define this new wave, much as responses to the cinema of attraction defined Modernism.

Other films also key into these modern themes. One such film is the Indie slacker film Sulemani Keeda. The film is an exploration into the creation of a slacker film in the modern-day Bollywood system. While we never find out the exact contents of the film trying to be made in the film, they share the same name, indicating to the audience that the protagonists are trying to make the film that is being watched. This creates a connection in the audience, as the characters are trying to portray their own struggles into their art. This is similar how we try to portray and curate an image of ourselves on social media. Ultimately The film is a call out against the machine of Bollywood. This anti-establishment approach to film style was the crux of the Indian Parallel Cinema, which was a Post-Modern film movement in India. This movement grew into slacker film as the world has begun to move past Post-Modernism. The Slacker film is primarily concerned with the struggle of doing something, often times making a film, in the modern world. This resonates similarly to the message of Synecdoche, New York where in no one can understand the particulars of ones own struggle filled situation, but by glimpsing into the world of the struggle, the audience can identify with the feeling of having their own struggle that they can not express themselves.

There are many more themes in the film than the one specific one explored in detail here. Death in omnipresent thought the film, even Caden’s last name Cotard refers to an illness where one believes that they are dead. The idea of Death is similarly dealt with in duality, and ultimately no one answers wins it out. Despite fearing all his life that he will die and leave nothing behind, when that time comes he excepts it, find release in it. In the Caden is also obsessed with the obituaries in the newspaper, sometimes even reading other stories as obituaries. In the end death catches up to Caden, as everyone around him slowly vanishes away; his father dies of cancer, his mother to a home invasion, all of his romantic interests to various ilnesses, his daughter to illness, and his impersonator Sammy to suicide. Time and how it slips away is also an important theme. The first scenes is an entire fall and winter, as the monotony of life lets a large chunk of it slip by without hesitation. Later in the film years pass and Caden thinks it only weeks. He is so caught up in his own world, he does not see the outside world continuing to move on without him. All along the way these two themes are complicated by the small interweaving’s of Caden with other people. These interweaving’s show that Caden is never alone, every action reacts onto another person, but at the same time he is alone, and time does not heal that wound.

Boundary pushing films like Synecdoche, New York seem to indicate a transition beyond Post-Modernism influences, similarly to how Cinema of Attraction indicated a move from classicism to the beginnings of modernism. While no one can predict the overarched attitudes of the next sweeping art movement, trends can be seen, and history can lend in to point in a direction. Ideas of the self, and how the self can be expressed in a world that’s less personal seem to be surfacing trends, but certainly nothing is set in stone. In the end however, one can undoubtable say that as our world is changing and technologies around art are growing exponentially, the boundary for what art is, and how it can express is being pushed, and eventually a new movement will take shape.

Resources Pulled From:

CREWE, DAVID.
\n
\n
One take on the overall meaning to the films central plot is David Crewe. Like the film does at many points, he tiptoes the line between two contradictory ideas, he says “The ultimate hubristic failure of Caden's Project--which, seventeen years after its inception, has no audience-- could be read as commentary on the insularity of art and its inability to capture life ... or entirely the opposite” (\"Stages of Life.\").
\n
\n
\n
This kind of boundary pushing in indicative of a potential culture shift, but it takes a trend to change the period’s prevailing movements. There are trends however, that we can all see are reshaping things, and Synecdoche, New York has some influences from these trends, and arguably exemplifies them. Anne Friedberg argues that cinema is being changed by modern technologies when she says:
\n
“As this millennium draws to an end, the cinema - a popular form of entertainment for almost a century - has been dramatically transformed. it has become embedded in - or perhaps lost in- the new technologies that surround it. One thing is clear: We can note it in the symptomatic discourse inflected with the atomic terms of the \"media fusion' or \"convergence' or the pluralist inclusiveness of 'Multimedia' - the differences between the media of movies, religions, and computers are rapidly diminishing.” (“The End of Cinema : Multimedia and Technological Change.”)
\n
The line between TV and movies is as blurred as its ever been, as many people watch most movies at home or on the internet. Increasingly art is becoming more personal as a massive boom in content has come with the wide spread ability to create and distribute content. People who have seen the same content are able to connect through that. At the heart of this new culture of spectatorship, Synecdoche, New York’s idea that the individual is vividly there, but hard to communicate can be seen as an exploration into the idea of connection. Perhaps this will be a popular topic to muse about in a world where everyone is a couple clicks away from being in contact with anyone.
\n
While no one can predict what the next cultural trend or important issues to address is, looking back at the past, its easy to see when and where certain ideas grew from. As such a look back can provide insight into the future. Tom Gunning discusses how the cinema of attraction grew out of the transitional epoch between classicism and modernism. He writes “To summaries, the cinema of attractions directly solicits spectator attention, inciting visual curiosity, and supplying pleasure though an exciting spectacle - a unique event, weather fictional or documentary” (\"The Cinema of Attractions”).
\n
Approaching it by looking at the past as a map for the future, the transitional period between Classicism and Modernism can be seen as the eventual if not already beginning of the modern shift of Post-Modernism to whatever is beyond that. Where in cinema of attraction grew out of the rise of modernism, the rise of the internet, and other technologies that have vastly impacted cinema can be seen to have grown with the rise of something past Post-Modernism. Responses to this will define this new wave, much as responses to the cinema of attraction defined Modernism.
\n
\n
\n
\n
Resources Pulled From:
\n
CREWE, DAVID. \"Stages of Life.\" Screen Education, no. 82, Winter2016, pp. 114-119.
\n
Friedberg, Anne. “The End of Cinema : Multimedia and Technological Change.”
\n
Anne Friedberg, The End of Cinema : Multimedia and Technological Change - PhilPapers, 1 Jan. 1970, philpapers.org/rec/FRITEO-2.
\n
Gunning, Tom. \"The Cinema of Attractions: Early Film, Its Spectator and the Avant-Garde\"
\n
Sulemani Keeda. | title | NO Saints Vs MN Vikings Divisinal Playoff Game Primer |
| body |

The first Vikings season I can remember in it entirety is the magical 2009 Season where Silver Foxed Brett Favre lead us to what in my opinion was 1 Brian Urlacher blocked extra point in week 16 away from a Super Bowl ring. But that’s neither here nor there because in the end the Old Gunslinger came back around, and a cross body throw into the middle of the field was picked off by Tracey Porter and the Saints, not the Vikings advanced to face Peyton Manning and the Colts in the Super Bowl. That was then; this is now, and while Vikings players have said that the revenge game aspect of Sundays Division Championship game doesn’t mean much, if anything to them (only DE Brian Robinson was with the team then and now), it certainly means a lot to the fans. “The North never forgets.” I won’t hide my feelings, I fully expect the Vikings to come out on top on Sunday. Call me a homer, but the 13-3 Vikings opened as 4-point favorites over the 11-5 Saints. It won’t be easy but if everyone executes, I have no doubt the Vikings will come out on top. So, what is it that they need to do, what must they execute? Well first and for most, the game will ultimately revolve around one man: Drew Brees.

Who Dat’s QB:

No matter who wins the game, I can assure you one thing: Drew Brees will be talked about ad nauseum in wake the final playoff game this weekend. Brees is coming off another amazing season. The future HOF QB threw 25 TDs to only 8 INTS, going for 4334 yards at a 72% Completion Rate (Retaking his single season record that Sam Bradford passed last season). The Number that stats out the most to me is his Yards per Attempt, at 8.1. This is the first time his Y/A has been over 8 since 2011. Brees only threw the ball 536 times, a low number for him considering he’s thrown more than 600 passes in 9 of his 17 years, including every year since the 09-championship season. While his totals were low, he was extremely efficient with every attempt he made. Brees throws a beautiful ball, with plenty of strength and touch, and otherworldly accuracy.

Last week against the Panthers, Brees was at his best: 376 yards on 11.4 Y/A and 69.7% Completion Percentage, with 2 TDs and a pick. He was throwing into some very tight windows, throwing receivers open, and pump faking safeties in a vintage showing of why #9 deserves to be in all time great conversations. The Vikings cannot let Brees do that against them if they want to win. Don’t get me wrong, Drew will be balling, I would be shocked if we held him under 250 yards, but as long as he isn’t BALLIN’ they have a shot. The Vikings and Saints met all the way back in week 1, and while that was a long time ago, its still worthwhile to discuss. Brees’ line was a sharp but not razor sharp 291 yards on 7.9 Y/A and 73% completion percentage, with 1 TD. The game went 29-19 in favor of the Vikings, but was never really all that close after two Bradford (Yes Sam Bradford was the Vikings QB to start the year) threw 2 TDs in the last 4 mins and change of the first half. Brees had no support from his rushing attack, only 60 yards on 21 attempts. For Brees though, this is not an excuse, he had even less support last week against the Panthers; 40 yards on 22 attempts. The Vikings can not sit back and think that if they take away the two-headed monster of Ingram and Kamara that the game is won. The Vikings will need to pressure Brees quickly and often. Because of that the number one match up to watch will be on the edge while both teams best units are on the field. More specifically Terron Armstead Vs Everson Griffin and Ryan Ramczyk Vs. Danielle Hunter.

The EDGE Game:

One thing will always be true in football – If you give even a half decent QB a clean pocket, and time in it, he can torch a defense. This is what the Saints did more often than not this season, as they surrendered only 30 sacks on the year (in the games we’ve discussed so far, they allowed 1 sack in each game, and kept the pocket clean, only allowing Brees to be pressured on only 18% and 23% of his drop backs in week 1 and last week respectively). A lot of this has to do with the solid play of the bookends. Armstead was slightly above league average at LT and Ramczyk checking in as a top 10 tackle (#8 to be exact) according to Pro Football Focus at RT (He did spend 2 games at LT while Armstead was injured as well). Neither tackle was prone to giving up much to the defense. Armstead has been given the vote of confidence by the front office, as not to long ago, the former third rounder received a long term extension. Ramczyk meanwhile was a high-profile rookie, taken 32nd overall with the pick gotten from New England for Brandon Cooks. Coming out of the OL factory that is Wisconsin, he was considered extremely polished, and could be an All-Pro at RT in the future (where he will likely stay since the FO already extended Armstead). Going up against them are some very vicious edge guys in Griffin and Hunter. While Hunter did not take the huge step into being an elite edge defender I thought he would this year, the young physical specimen did continue to grow. Notching 7 sacks in his first season as a full time starter, the 23 year old was solid in both run and pass defense. Turning in a PFF grade of 82 for the season, the youngster continued to show he was a steal in the third round of the ’15 draft. The former LSU Tiger notched 3 pressures against Ramczyk week 1, while setting the edge to a T in the run game. Hunter’s technique has grown immensely in his 3 seasons as a pro, and he’ll need every trick in his bag against the technically sound Ramczyk.

On the other side of the line, Griffin turned in arguable his best season yet. The 30 year old USC product set a career high with 13 sacks, and lived in the backfield of opponents all season long. His first step quickness and variety of pass rushing moves should prove to be a lot to handle for the athletically gifted Armstead. Griffin also sets the edge well in the run game. If the Saints line holds up in pass coverage, Brees could make it a long afternoon for Minnesota. He was only 3-7 for 11 yards when under pressure week 1 against the Vikings, so getting to the Norlins legend is a must. But if the run game gets going, it could be al for naught.

Ingram and Kamara:

The veteran workhorse and electric rookie combined for 1852 yards on the ground and 20 TDs. To go along with that, Kamara registered a daunting 826 receiving yards and 5 TDs with Ingram pitching in a solid 416 yards. A balanced Saints offense is deadly, and the running back tandem the Saints rode into the Playoffs is capable of balancing the offense like few backfields can. Mixing big run plays and pass plays from the RB position opens the playbook wide open and Sean Payton more dangerous the creative and innovative plays he can call.

Ingram is mainly the between the tackles guy. It will be up to Linval Joseph and Tom Johnson of the Vikings interior DL to plug up the holes and allow for LBs to clean up any runs that get by them. Joseph can fill any A gap form the 1-tec DT spot as well as anyone in the game. His massive size and strength is unparalleled, and his agility and lateral quickness makes him a threat to eat up RBs going east and west on a set edge. Max Unger is one of the smartest Centers in Football, and while there isn’t a vintage Jahir Evens on either side of him Andrus Peat and Larry Warfield are no slouches on the interior. Even still though expect Joseph to command double teams most of the game while allowing Johnson to use his leaner quicker frame to generate pass rush from the 3-tec when he can get 1-on-1 matchups. It isn’t futile to try to run between the tackles, but between a stout defensive interior, and solid tackling LBs in Anthony Barr and Eric Kendricks (and rookie WLB Ben Giedion, who has been solid, but in limited snaps as he is removed from the field in nickel formation) flying through any gaps made on the line, it is going to be tough sledding between the tackles.

Kamara generally runs outside the tackles because of his incredible size-speed combination. He can beat almost anyone in the open field, so sure tackling by LBs and Ss will be important. Luckily for the Vikings, they have one of the surest tackling safeties in the NFL in All-Pro Harrison “Hitman Harry” Smith. Along with him, Trae Waynes graded out consistently well as a tackling CB in a big growing year for the former 1st rounder. All in all the Vikings will have to play fast, sound, fundamental football against the saints rushing attack to slow down a ground game that has been in decline the last few weeks. But they certainly have the talent to do so.

Skill Position Players:

I already talked a little about how the RBs line up against the LBs in the ground game, but the same can be said about the passing game. Barr and Kendricks are fast and smart, able to cover sideline to sideline in both phases of the game. I don’t like the idea of Coby Fleener Vs Barr, but if they can keep TE coverage to the safeties and Kendricks, that would go a long way to slowing down much of the Saints offence. If the passing attack has to run through the Wideouts, the Vikings just might be able to slow down drew Brees. Michael Thomas had an outstanding sophomore year proving he is a #1 option, putting up a line of 10 catches, 1245 yards and 5 TDs. He will be shadowed by All Pro CB Xavier Rhodes, who shut down everyone he faced this season (including holding Thomas to 5 catches and 45 yards week 1). Both are big physical guys, and Thomas has been especially good of late, but I just can’t Rhodes letting much get to Thomas. On the other side of the field, Waynes has a favorable match up against Ted Gin Jr. Gin had an great first year in New Orlins putting up a 53/787/4 line. Even as he ages he is a burner. But that is exactly who I would want Trae and his 4.3 speed going up against. Waynes does not have to be perfect, instead, all he has to do is stick with Gin and not let him get wide open. If he can do that, which with his speed he can, Gin’s impact will be limited, because his hands are bluntly put, poor, and he doesn’t fight for 50/50 balls as well as a bigger framed man might. Overall The Saints offense is an explosive one, but the Vikings defense has the tools and the talent to contain them, all they have to do is execute. I’ve dedicated a lot of time to talking about the better unit for each team, but of course the Vikings must also field a competitive offense, so let’s switch over.

The Vikings Offense:

The thing that will make or break the game for the Vikings on offense, is their O-Line. Through the season, the Vikings line has been positively average. They protect their signal caller well enough (with the exception of the handful of weeks straight early on where they didn’t give up a sack) and create enough room in the ground game that Latavius Murry and Jerrick McKinnon can get things going. Riley Reiff and Mike Remmers were fine additions this offseason, and defiantly an upgrade over last years dumpster fire of an O-Line. Pat Elflien has had growing pains, but overall has been a positive impact at Center. Nick Easton breaking his ankle week 16 is very disappointing, as his athleticism was a huge plus when The Vikings wanted to pull a guard. While the exact configuration of the line sans Easton is not yet known, I would speculate they will just replace Easton with Jerimiah Sirlas. They could try to get fancy and move Joe Berger from the right to the left guard spot, bump Remmers into RG and roll with Reshod Hill at RT, but that is a lot of moving parts. Both Sirlas and Hill proved consistently this year they are competent players who can seamlessly fill in, both having started multiple games due to injury. To get anywhere close to a victory, the line is going to have to hold up in pass protection, and open lanes in the run game. Cameron Jordan of the Saints might have something to say about that though.

Jordan is a legitimate DPOY candidate after posting 13 sacks and setting a fine edge in the run game all season long. The Minneapolis native looked unstoppable at times against Carolina and could be a huge issue if Reiff can not hold him by himself. The rest of the Saints Defense in my opinion is good not great. They do everything they are supposed to do, and no longer will beat themselves, as the Rob Ryan Saints were prone to do. Marshon Lattimore is the exception to this, the Ohio State Product is legitimately already one of the better Corners in the league, and can certainly stick with a teams #1 option. But Lattimore can only Cover Stephon Diggs or Adam Thielen one at a time. The unheralded duo combined for 2125 yards and 12 TD on the season. That being said the solid pass defense that Ken Crawley and Marcus William provide might be too much to Case Keenum to attack downfield too much. Because of this the run game is going to be imperative for the Vikings. That being said, Keenum as the QB will have the biggest single impact.

The Case for Case:

Keenum had an excellent season, and is in line for a huge contract in the offseason. 3547 yards at a 7.4 Y/A and 67.6% completion clip with 22 TD to only 7 INT was more than anyone could have asked from a third string QB. I have been critical of Keenum throughout the season, but he has continuously proved me wrong. I don’t think he has the arm strength to make throws into tight windows, but that has been hidden by his excellent decision making and the schemes. As long as Keenum isn’t tasked with winning the game by himself, the Vikings offense has a chance to put up some numbers. His ability to extend plays and avoid rushers will also be key, as if the line can’t hold Jordan and other back, Keenum will have to make time for routs to develop by himself. Does Case Keenum have some Joe Flacco 2013 magic in him? I don’t know, but if he does, elevating pressure off of McKinnon and Murry will go a long way to opening up the offense on a defense that is better than it would seem.

Prediction:

I see this being a close game but ultimately the Vikings will come out on top, with a predicted score of 24-20

|

"body": "
\n
\n
Who Dat’s QB:
\n
\n
\n
The EDGE Game:
\n
\n
\n
Ingram and Kamara:
\n
The veteran workhorse and electric rookie combined for 1852 yards on the ground and 20 TDs. To go along with that, Kamara registered a daunting 826 receiving yards and 5 TDs with Ingram pitching in a solid 416 yards. A balanced Saints offense is deadly, and the running back tandem the Saints rode into the Playoffs is capable of balancing the offense like few backfields can. Mixing big run plays and pass plays from the RB position opens the playbook wide open and Sean Payton more dangerous the creative and innovative plays he can call.
\n
\n
\n
Skill Position Players:
\n
\n
The Vikings Offense:
\n
\n
\n
The Case for Case:
\n
\n
Prediction:
\n
I see this being a close game but ultimately the Vikings will come out on top, with a predicted score of 24-20
\n
",

| title | introduceyourself: willthompson's life, goals, and plans on steemit |
| body | Welcome to my introduceyourself! My name is Will Thompson, 20 year old undergraduate at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. First and for most, I am an actor. That being said, I believe that all creative people should have knowledge and ability in ever aspect of whatever medium they are working in. Maybe a more apt way to describe myself is simply as a student, for even after 20 years of life, there is still a mountain of things I wish to learn, and an even bigger mountain of things I wish I could learn. Some Background On Me: I was born into the small town community called Minnewaukan, North Dakota, population 300. My father, Vern, was a politician working for the State Democratic Party, having served previously as a State Senator and Congressman. My mother, Cindy, was an undercover narcotics officer, who not a month prior to my birth had tackled a cocaine dealer (at trial the dealer constantly referred to my mother as “that fat bitch” perhaps to compensate for his likely embarrassment at the hands of being run down and taken down by a bad ass woman 8 months pregnant with her first child). At the age of 4 we moved to Bismarck, so my father could work at the capital, and my sister was born. At age 8 we moved to Fargo for other employment opportunities, and this is where I lived until I left the nest and entered University. Fargo was an excellent place to grow up, and I received plenty of amazing opportunities. In high school I was heavily involved in many extra-curricular activities and had the pleasure of serving as both the Theatre Department’s President, and the Student Body President. Theatre, or more so acting in general, became my passion, and I have decided to pursue it as not just a carrier, but a lifestyle. Now at University I study Theatre Arts, Film Studies and Philosophy as I pursue what is called a Bachelor of Individual Studies (Something to be explained in a further post, likely in the next couple of days) as well as a minor in Creative Writing. I also work at Gopher Digital Productions. We’re the people that do all the production for the entire athletics department. That includes everything on the big screens in stadium, and all the streams going to TV networks, for live play and for delayed play and even online streams as well. This previous summer I decided to move out to Los Angeles with my best friend from high school and dip my toes into the real world, in between semesters at Minnesota. While out there I got the amazing opportunity to be on more than a handful of different sets doing background acting. From Youtube soap operas, to Billy Bod Thornton’s Amazon Prime show Goliath, to Fox’s Brooklynn Nine-Nine, I got to experience a wide variety of sets and crews. The first week of the summer I also spent a week in Miami working on American Crime Story: The Assassination of Giannis Versace (premiering Jan 17th on FX, catch me as the hitchhiker who looks like he just got done stripping in a lumberjack club and is now going home to Charlette). I learned so much and got some many great opportunities this summer, it truly was the best of my life so far. Now in the thick of my sophomore year, I’m just gridding things out, and now joining Steem. My Goal: My goal in life is to be an Artist. I remember talking in a parking lot on Sunset with my acting teacher and mentor very late one night this summer about what it means to be an actor and an artist. He said something along the lines of being an Artist is a lifestyle, one where the creative mind is always creating – no matter the medium, no matter the viewership – just allowing oneself to create. Although acting is my bread and butter, I am also extremely interested in Directing and Writing, both for the screen and the stage, Music Production, Painting, Poetry – I’d even do some Sculpting if I had the means. All I want to do is to create and express myself. Why Steemit: I was introduced to Steemit by @mukaiselekwa and @natethoreson, two high school classmates and close friends. Instantly I was enamored with the entire concept. To me Steem is a platform where a creative person can be transparent and open about the progress and process of their creating as well as share that creation when complete. The community as I’ve seen it is perfect for doing this. A ton of well informed and like-minded individuals with the same goal of creating the best possible content overall? That’s a community I want to be a part of, a community I want to share my talents and experimentations with. I hope to build a base of followers interested in the things that I am in and can provide feedback and constructive criticism that will allow me to grow, and for me to do the same for others. What To Expect: There will be a lot of posting on this account, I like to ramble on and on. I will be as transparent and honest as I can. I will look to go beyond the surface at times, and open up. For example, I know that at some point I will talk about my personal struggles with things like depression. I want to build a base of people who not only like my content I create, but can connect to me on a deeper level. I think its imperative to create a schedule for people who want to follow closely. I plan on posting blog posts 3 times a day, every day. From my understanding the best way to capitalize on your posts is to post no more than 4 times in a 24 hour period, so I’ll stick with 3 so that if something crazy comes up, I can post about it without over extending my posting. I’d also like to leave room for commenting, as right now my understanding is that comments count in that quota of 4 (but I do not know this for sure, please correct me if you know). I have many interests, Theatre, Film, Philosophy and Writing is what I study, and are sources of extreme passion for me, so expect a lot of that. Outside academia, I am a huge fan of the MLB, NFL, and NBA, especially the Twins, Vikings, and Lakers respectively. For my 3 posts a day I want to run daily segments. The first post will be up at 8am central standard time, and will be a recap of what I had been thinking about and reading about in the sports world the previous day, or something to that effect. Then at Noon, I’ll post some kind of poetry, or writing, or mid process updates on things I’m working on. Really, I just want that slot to be for artistry, however that comes out. Finally, at 9pm I plan to post academic essays, papers, and takes of mine on various interests that I had mentioned above. In short, my posting schedule will be one sports post, one artistic post, and one academic post, each day. This is subject to change, and updates will be located at the end of articles I blog. For Tomorrow: 8am – A full primer for the Saint’s – Vikings Divisional game 12pm – Some poetry and art 9PM – An essay exploring Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York and how it represents a changing of the guard from Post-Modernism to what might follow Questions For the Community: I would have put photos and a thumbnail on this post, but I can’t seem to figure out Steemimg. If someone could help me figure that out, or point me in a direction where I could learn for myself, that would be greatly appreciated. I plan on posting photos out of my composition art book for the 12 o’clock slot tomorrow, and will thus need to understand how to embed photos pretty soon here. "body": "Welcome to my introduceyourself! My name is Will Thompson, 20 year old undergraduate at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities. First and for most, I am an actor. That being said, I believe that all creative people should have knowledge and ability in ever aspect of whatever medium they are working in. Maybe a more apt way to describe myself is simply as a student, for even after 20 years of life, there is still a mountain of things I wish to learn, and an even bigger mountain of things I wish I could learn.\n\nSome Background On Me:\n\nI was born into the small town community called Minnewaukan, North Dakota, population 300. \n\nAt the age of 4 we moved to Bismarck, so my father could work at the capital, and my sister was born. \n\nNow at University I study Theatre Arts, Film Studies and Philosophy as I pursue what is called a Bachelor of Individual Studies (Something to be explained in a further post, likely in the next couple of days) as well as a minor in Creative Writing. I also work at Gopher Digital Productions. We’re the people that do all the production for the entire athletics department. That includes everything on the big screens in stadium, and all the streams going to TV networks, for live play and for delayed play and even online streams as well. \n\nThis previous summer I decided to move out to Los Angeles with my best friend from high school and dip my toes into the real world, in between semesters at Minnesota. Now in the thick of my sophomore year, I’m just gridding things out, and now joining Steem.\n\nMy Goal:\n\nMy goal in life is to be an Artist. All I want to do is to create and express myself.\n\nWhy Steemit:\n\nI was introduced to Steemit by @mukaiselekwa and @natethoreson, two high school classmates and close friends. I hope to build a base of followers interested in the things that I am in and can provide feedback and constructive criticism that will allow me to grow, and for me to do the same for others.\n\nWhat To Expect:\n\nThere will be a lot of posting on this account, I like to ramble on and on. I’d also like to leave room for commenting, as right now my understanding is that comments count in that quota of 4 (but I do not know this for sure, please correct me if you know).\n\nI have many interests, Theatre, Film, Philosophy and Writing is what I study, and are sources of extreme passion for me, so expect a lot of that. This is subject to change, and updates will be located at the end of articles I blog.\n\nFor Tomorrow:\n\n8am – A full primer for the Saint’s – Vikings Divisional game\n12pm – Some poetry and art\n9PM – An essay exploring Charlie Kaufman’s Synecdoche, New York and how it represents a changing of the guard from Post-Modernism to what might follow\n\nQuestions For the Community:\n\nI would have put photos and a thumbnail on this post, but I can’t seem to figure out Steemimg. | body | This is what excited me about Steem. A lot of people I explain the platform to like to oversimplify it to "reddit but you get paid for it" but I think that cuts out the true power of the platform. I love the idea of keeping a base up to date on a project, for example a making a Film. While you keep people up to date, they can help fund the project, and the transparency, something everyone seems to crave, will not only make the base feel closer to the project, but will assure there will be people out there excited and ready to consume the project when completed. |

This way, Samsung can streamline implementation of their new product, while also bypassing peoples trepidation of buying such a large and most likely expensive product (although TV prices have fallen drastically as the tech as come further along. I remember when we bought a 70 in TV for our home and it was about 5 grand, but I'll walk into a Best Buy nowadays and will see a better and bigger TV for half that price). |
