| body | # Fake News: Read the original on [Brave New Blockchain](https://www.bravenewblockchain.com/?p=296)

Jordan Peterson with an apt metaphor for the adoption of cryptocurrency -- except Jordan Peterson [didn't say it at all]( https://twitter.com/Coinfirm_io/status/900632085798563841) and a shitty ICO (Coinfirm) is lying about getting him on a podcast. It's the first thing that comes up when you Google, "Jordan Peterson cryptocurrency," and it's a prime example of the type of fake-news, profit-generating bullshit that's tearing apart the social fabric of society.
## Still, what can we assume Jordan Peterson thinks about cryptocurrency? ## The main tenets of Jordan Peterson's books and lectures boil down to: Take responsibility for yourself and stop being pathetic. His 12 Rules for Life are: > Rule 1 Stand up straight with your shoulders back Rule 2 Treat yourself like you would someone you are responsible for helping Rule 3 Make friends with people who want the best for you Rule 4 Compare yourself with who you were yesterday, not with who someone else is today Rule 5 Do not let your children do anything that makes you dislike them Rule 6 Set your house in perfect order before you criticise the world Rule 7 Pursue what is meaningful (not what is expedient) Rule 8 Tell the truth – or, at least, don’t lie***** (Take note, Coinfirm) Rule 9 Assume that the person you are listening to might know something you don’t Rule 10 Be precise in your speech Rule 11 Do not bother children when they are skate-boarding Rule 12 Pet a cat when you encounter one on the street None of them seem to give us any eye-opening insight into what he might think about cryptocurrency, except, perhaps Rule 7: "Purse what is meaningful, not what is expedient." I searched through that chapter to find something that might relate to the adoption of crypto: "Consider then that the alleviation of unnecessary pain and suffering is a good. Make that an axiom: to the best of my ability I will act in a manner that leads to the alleviation of unnecessary pain and suffering. You have now placed at the pinnacle of your moral hierarchy a set of presuppositions and actions aimed at the betterment of Being. Why? Because we know the alternative. The alternative was the twentieth century. The alternative was so close to Hell that the difference is not worth discussing. And the opposite of Hell is Heaven. To place the alleviation of unnecessary pain and suffering at the pinnacle of your hierarchy of value is to work to bring about the Kingdom of God on Earth. That's a state, and a state of mind, at the same time." In the above passage, if you replace "the twentieth century" with "the 2008 financial crisis," I think you can see how Jordan Peterson is likely in support of a system where massive banking fraud is nigh-impossible, as long as you personally believe that a world without Wall Street is one that minimizes suffering and benefits you and your loved ones. But if you're one of those people who's just in crypto for the money (and there's a new trend on r/bitcoin and r/cryptocurrency that it's "impossible" to not be in crypto for the money, even though -- as far as I remember -- that trend didn't exist until the most recent boom), reconsider crypto's position in your personal dominance hierarchy. Here's Why I'm in the realm of thought that no debt is good debt. Honestly, I don't even trust mortgage debt (as unavoidable as it is). My reasoning is simple: It's impossible to spend money that you don't have. On the surface, that doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense. Money, at its most basic, isn't anything other than a social contract ("I own this and this is as good as my word"); and credit is nothing other than an extended social contract ("my word is just as valuable as this; so take my word that I will give you this in the future"). The problem is that huge financial systems take advantage of the disparity between a person's self-perception of their word and the actual value of their word. Much like how people are actually less attractive than they think, people are also much worse at generating income and paying back debt than they think. That's the only reason credit card companies are profitable; they make you think you're boring for not spending money for a backstage pass to an Alicia Keys concert, and then they penalize you for spending too much. In short, easy money will eventually lead to widespread financial collapse, just like it did in 2008. A more complicated and more reasonable rationale would include these main talking points: * Every modern government's economic policy is convoluted to the point of incomprehensibility, even by the most intelligent and skilled experts. * Zimbabwe and Venezuela have suffered from such high rates of inflation that their governments don't even release economic data anymore. This puts any citizen of those governments in the strangle-holds of their corrupt leaders, through no fault of their own. * As I mentioned, capitalist nations -- America in particular -- is/are full of "temporarily embarrassed millionaires," a self-delusion that's infinitely exacerbated by the universality of credit card use. A minority of people, when it comes to personal finance, are the walking, talking epitome of the Dunning-Kruger Effect. Take this chart made from WalletHub data as an example:

* Furthermore, to expand on that Dunning-Kruger claim, the type of person who's perpetually in debt is really just a freeloader. When you buy something with credit, you're essentially saying, "I don't have the means to buy this now, but I'm going to buy it anyway." And, when you're always in debt, society is saying (harshly, given 25% interest rates on a lot of credit cards), "you don't have the means to buy this at all; in fact, you don't even have the means to continue your current lifestyle. We're going to penalize you until you stop." (This sounds arrogant, so I should note: Not everyone who's in debt is in debt because of consumer spending. I'd wager that it's oftentimes the result of a loved one's medical bills, but the point unfortunately still stands. Society, if it isn't already obvious, doesn't really give a shit that your grandpa has lung cancer.) In today's financial world, freeloaders -- even the well-intentioned kind -- are given too much influence. They will eventually cause the whole system to topple. *That's only talking about private debt, which pales in comparison to the US government's national debt, now at $20.8 trillion and climbing. *Governments can't go on printing money indefinitely to get rid of their ever-expanding debt load. It doesn't make financial sense and it doesn't make practical sense. When the system collapses, just like it did in 2008, the corporate bigwigs and government bureaucrats won't lose their houses. They won't miss a meal. Their extended family won't have to move in with them. They won't be eating peanut butter out of a jar with a plastic spoon. They won't be washing themselves with handsoap in public bathrooms to get ready for a minimum-wage job interview. They'll funnel money from their off-shore accounts. They'll tax the common man even more to pay for their private jet flights to the country club. They'll bump down from a five-star to a four-star restaurant; they'll even make a couple trips to Olive Garden. They'll sell a couple houses as the market collapses just to free up some liquid capital to buy more expensive ones. I'll never live like that, but when shit hits the fan I want the option of opting-out of the system that I know is designed to fuck me. That's why crypto is so important, and that's why you should recognize its importance. |

| body | ## Read the original article on [Brave New Blockchain](https://www.bravenewblockchain.com/?p=293). ## It's the most popular question I get here on Brave New Blockchain. Everyone wants to know: How much bitcoin do I own? I'd be willing to wager that it's the most popular question crypto bloggers get, and that's understandable. *Who gives a shit about the poor?* Who am I to give you advice? If there are no hard statistics proving otherwise, you might be doing better than me, for all we know. But it puts me in an interesting conundrum: How am I supposed to tell you how much cryptocurrency I have when one of the main tenets of security (and therefore expertise) in the crypto space is to keep quiet about it so I don't make myself even more susceptible to hackers?
https://i0.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/catch-22.jpg?w=753&ssl=1
If only there were a name for this type of scenario... If I told you, for example, that I have over 9000 Nano, the common wisdom goes (on r/cryptocurrency anyway), that all I'd be doing is opening myself up to getting hacked. But that's not true, is it? If I don't tell you how much crypto I have (and show proof that I have it, unlike 50 Cent), then you won't believe that I'm actually any good at this. The solution? I'm going to make one tiny investment public. I'm going to start with $550 (probably closer to $500 after fees). I plan on buying Nano. Or steem. But if someone has another cryptocurrency they would prefer for me to watch, comment below and give me a good argument. This way we can be investors together. Isn't that so much better than knowing how much bitcoin I have? |

Everyone wants to know: How much bitcoin do I own?\n\nI'd be willing to wager that it's the most popular question crypto bloggers get, and that's understandable. *Who gives a shit about the poor?* Who am I to give you advice? If there are no hard statistics proving otherwise, you might be doing better than me, for all we know. But it puts me in an interesting conundrum: How am I supposed to tell you how much cryptocurrency I have when one of the main tenets of security (and therefore expertise) in the crypto space is to keep quiet about it so I don't make myself even more susceptible to hackers?\n\n
https://i0.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/catch-22.jpg?w=753&ssl=1
\n\nIf only there were a name for this type of scenario...\n\nIf I told you, for example, that I have over 9000 Nano, the common wisdom goes (on r/cryptocurrency anyway), that all I'd be doing is opening myself up to getting hacked. But that's not true, is it? If I don't tell you how much crypto I have (and show proof that I have it, unlike 50 Cent), then you won't believe that I'm actually any good at this.\n\nThe solution? I'm going to make one tiny investment public. I'm going to start with $550 (probably closer to $500 after fees).\n\nI plan on buying Nano. Or steem. But if someone has another cryptocurrency they would prefer for me to watch, comment below and give me a good argument.\n\nThis way we can be investors together. Isn't that so much better than knowing how much bitcoin I have?",

| body | # Read the original article on [Brave New Blockchain](https://www.bravenewblockchain.com/?p=284). ## In this article, **I'm going to talk about the #1 reason steemit hasn't even begun to take off** -- and about how you can make easy money with hardly any effort at all. Sounds too good to be true, but so is pretty much everything in the decentralization craze, isn't it? First, I talked about a couple concepts in my last article that [Neil Strauss](https://twitter.com/neilstrauss?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor), New York Times bestselling author of seven books, urges other writers to abide by, so I'm going to review those in more detail because they are absolutely pivotal to your development as a writer, and longer-form written content is still what dominates steemit.

## 1. When you're writing, assume that no one cares. ## > “If you guys want to write, or anyone wants to write... the first thing is I assume is that no one cares. I assume that no one cares about what I’m writing about. Nobody cares about me. No one cares about what I have to say. No one cares about the things I care about. So if you can just go from the premise that nobody cares, then how can I make them care? From the first sentence, from the first paragraph, you know? At the end of that chapter, how am I going to make them turn to the next chapter? My main goal is to keep it interesting and assume that no one’s interested.” In order to keep it interesting, assume that no one's interested. Truer words have never been spoken. ## 2. Utilize open-loops. ## What's the #1 reason that steemit's going to take off? I haven't answered that question yet. I kept it "open." That's an open-loop, and it's an extremely effective writing technique, possibly one of the most important in the digital age. Just like Donald Maass' advice in The Fire in Fiction, you need to create microtension -- sentence-level anxiety. You need to get your readers to ask questions as they go along, and you need to leave those questions unanswered before moving on to the next one. I'm not saying anything new, but there are too many distractions in today's world. You want to be the type of writer who can keep someone engaged even when their girlfriend's texting them telling them telling them to come over. You want to be the type of writer who can compete with reddit's funny page. You want to be the type of writer who -- even if it's just for a few seconds -- makes their readers forget about the outside world. With open-loops, you can do that. It's the same basic technique that keeps people flipping pages when they're reading A Song of Ice and Fire. It's the reason people can't stop watching soap operas. They need to know what's going to happen next. In this article, I introduced two questions: "What's the #1 reason that steemit hasn't begun to take off?" and "How can I make easy money on steemit?" I'm kind of answering both of those questions now, but not in a way that's truly satisfying because you know I really just changed the subject. It's frustrating but understandable. ## And now, for the #1 reason steemit hasn't even begun to take off: #
**dMania is ruining the platform.**
## For anyone that even vaguely understands memes, let me explain it to you in a way that doesn't require very many words. This showed up on the front page of DMania today:
[WHEN DMANIA BOT TURNS HIS EYES TO YOU - C'MON DMANIA DANCE WITH ME!!](https://dmania.lol/post/chingpherd/when-dmania-bot-turns-his-eyes-to-you-cmon-dmania-dance-with-me-zg1hbmlh-1fx3a)

https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/dmania-images/unnamed-1-cunf99w.gif
That's right. On the front page of dMania is the "Two Weird kids dance to Crazy Frog," meme, which is my go-to when I'm explaining to someone what a dead meme is. It's not funny. It's not new. It's not relevant. It's not even "so bad, it's good." It's probably the worst meme I've seen this year, and I browse "New" in [r/DankMemes](https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/). I even [replicated this post on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/805mnd/when_reddit_turns_their_eyes_to_you_cmon_reddit/) to see how it would do. In less than five minutes, it got downvoted into oblivion. u/darkwing42 said, >this repost is so old, those boys are now in their 40s And u/TheNymon said, >That's how you feel when your post/comment finally gets upvoted by 2 people Imagine earning $70 as the result of creating this pile of garbage. The only thing that can be said about it is that it promotes dMania, and posts that promote dMania seem to show up pretty regularly on the front page of dMania (and, by extension steemit -- at least on "Funny"). # Now For a Few More Words ## For those who don't know, dMania is essentially the exact same platform as steemit, except it's explicitly geared itself as a site where you can "make money with memes, funny pictures, and videos." Now, that likely prompts the question, "Isn't that the exact purpose of steemit, though? For users to get paid for their content?" Therein lies the problem. If steemit already does the exact same thing that dMania does, then why does content from dMania regularly show up on the front page of steemit?

Introducing the dMania Bot... The dMania bot shamelessly upvotes content from its site in a mostly arbitrary, random manner. "But if dMania randomly pays users to post funny memes, isn't it a charity of sorts? How are they making any money?" Good question. Always follow the money. dMania is by no means a "charity." From the dMania FAQ: >How are rewards distributed on dMania? >75% goes to the author and curators(Users who upvote posts). Curators receive between 0-25% of the author rewards, >depending on their Steem Power and how sucessful they promoted a post. >15% goes to dMania supporters. >10% goes to dMania. Here it is in big bold letters so everyone gets the point: **DMANIA IS A USELESS MIDDLEMAN THAT STEALS 25% OF YOUR INCOME!** It's that simple. And, with the way that dMania supporters work ("To become a dMania supporter, you have to delegate some Steem Power to dMania. dMania supporters receive 15% of the rewards of every post on dMania"), dMania is a literal ponzi scheme. If steemit wants to contend with Reddit in the future, it needs to find a way to penalize middlemen. What's stopping me from creating another dMania bot on dMania (call it BraveMania)? How far can this rabbit hole go? This is like if the mods on Reddit posted every meme you saw on the sub. The quality of the content would quickly fall to r/meirl level. To make matters worse, what's stopping me from creating a "dMania" for long-form written content (right now arguably the best content that steemit offers)? As far as I can tell, nothing. It's a matter of time before someone sees the relative success of dMania's business model and copies it. They're becoming hugely influential in the steemit community by doing nothing at all. So if you want to make easy money with no effort, join the coalition of memesters who post good content without using dMania. Literally just go back to using steemit. They don't take 25% of your income. You're not making more money by using dMania; the math is clear. You're only promoting a site that's screwing you in the long-term. |

In this article, I introduced two questions: \"What's the #1 reason that steemit hasn't begun to take off?\" and \"How can I make easy money on steemit?\" I'm kind of answering both of those questions now, but not in a way that's truly satisfying because you know I really just changed the subject. It's frustrating but understandable.\n\n## And now, for the #1 reason steemit hasn't even begun to take off:\n#
**dMania is ruining the platform.**
\n##\n\nFor anyone that even vaguely understands memes, let me explain it to you in a way that doesn't require very many words. This showed up on the front page of DMania today:\n\n
[WHEN DMANIA BOT TURNS HIS EYES TO YOU - C'MON DMANIA DANCE WITH ME!!](https://dmania.lol/post/chingpherd/when-dmania-bot-turns-his-eyes-to-you-cmon-dmania-dance-with-me-zg1hbmlh-1fx3a)
\n\n
https://s3-eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/dmania-images/unnamed-1-cunf99w.gif
\n\n\nThat's right. On the front page of dMania is the \"Two Weird kids dance to Crazy Frog,\" meme, which is my go-to when I'm explaining to someone what a dead meme is.\nIt's not funny. It's not new. It's not relevant. It's not even \"so bad, it's good.\" It's probably the worst meme I've seen this year, and I browse \"New\" in [r/DankMemes](https://www.reddit.com/r/dankmemes/).\n\nI even [replicated this post on Reddit](https://www.reddit.com/r/funny/comments/805mnd/when_reddit_turns_their_eyes_to_you_cmon_reddit/) to see how it would do. In less than five minutes, it got downvoted into oblivion. u/darkwing42 said,\n\n>this repost is so old, those boys are now in their 40s\n\nAnd u/TheNymon said,\n\n>That's how you feel when your post/comment finally gets upvoted by 2 people\n\nImagine earning $70 as the result of creating this pile of garbage. The only thing that can be said about it is that it promotes dMania, and posts that promote dMania seem to show up pretty regularly on the front page of dMania (and, by extension steemit -- at least on \"Funny\").\n\n# Now For a Few More Words\n##\nFor those who don't know, dMania is essentially the exact same platform as steemit, except it's explicitly geared itself as a site where you can \"make money with memes, funny pictures, and videos.\" Now, that likely prompts the question, \"Isn't that the exact purpose of steemit, though? For users to get paid for their content?\" Therein lies the problem. If steemit already does the exact same thing that dMania does, then why does content from dMania regularly show up on the front page of steemit? \n\n

\nIntroducing the dMania Bot...\n\nThe dMania bot shamelessly upvotes content from its site in a mostly arbitrary, random manner.\n\n\"But if dMania randomly pays users to post funny memes, isn't it a charity of sorts? How are they making any money?\"\n\nGood question. Always follow the money. dMania is by no means a \"charity.\"\n\nFrom the dMania FAQ: \n\n>How are rewards distributed on dMania?\n>75% goes to the author and curators(Users who upvote posts). Curators receive between 0-25% of the author rewards, >depending on their Steem Power and how sucessful they promoted a post.\n>15% goes to dMania supporters.\n>10% goes to dMania.\n\nHere it is in big bold letters so everyone gets the point:\n\n**DMANIA IS A USELESS MIDDLEMAN THAT STEALS 25% OF YOUR INCOME!**\n\nIt's that simple. And, with the way that dMania supporters work (\"To become a dMania supporter, you have to delegate some Steem Power to dMania. dMania supporters receive 15% of the rewards of every post on dMania\"), dMania is a literal ponzi scheme.\n\nIf steemit wants to contend with Reddit in the future, it needs to find a way to penalize middlemen. What's stopping me from creating another dMania bot on dMania (call it BraveMania)? How far can this rabbit hole go? This is like if the mods on Reddit posted every meme you saw on the sub. The quality of the content would quickly fall to r/meirl level.\n\nTo make matters worse, what's stopping me from creating a \"dMania\" for long-form written content (right now arguably the best content that steemit offers)? As far as I can tell, nothing. It's a matter of time before someone sees the relative success of dMania's business model and copies it. They're becoming hugely influential in the steemit community by doing nothing at all.\n\nSo if you want to make easy money with no effort, join the coalition of memesters who post good content without using dMania. Literally just go back to using steemit. They don't take 25% of your income. You're not making more money by using dMania; the math is clear. You're only promoting a site that's screwing you in the long-term.",

| body | I agree fully. Bots are abusing steemit. They're useless middlemen that are designed to drive traffic to their sites; nothing more, nothing less. They CAN be used beneficially, but let's get serious: Why is this (essentially an ad) at the top of steemit? This is starting to feel a lot like Facebook. |

| body | This site seriously lacks funny and insightful comments, but I think that's something that will take care of itself over time. So far I've seen the same ~six people posting really short comments, fishing for those sweet, sweet internet points. The thing about karma (or in this case steem) is that you usually get it when you're least expecting it. Hopefully steemit users figure that out, because right now the level of engagement is insane (96 views; 24 comments? WHAT?!). |

| body | ### Read the original post [here](https://www.bravenewblockchain.com/?p=272). ## There's one problem that gets in the way of everyone's success (especially mine). ### Just a couple years ago I founded a company called [Quick Cup](quickcup.me). I sold disposable shaker cups (essentially Blender Bottles that you use once and throw away), and I was working together with the IP Venture Clinic at Case Western Reserve University to get a patent for the final design. It all looked and sounded great; everyone was cheering me on. There were only a few hiccups (minor fuck-ups that shouldn't have happened had I been more careful), but nothing that seriously interfered with the trajectory of the company. My goal was to eventually sell Quick Cup to a larger supplement company for a massive profit. There was only one problem, and it's the biggest lesson I've learned in business since: There's a huge difference between pitching your idea -- "Would you buy a product like that?" -- and asking someone, "Would you buy that product right now?" It's by far the most important thing I've learned about business. Still -- and this is a problem that I have with both this blog and my start-up -- I have one major issue that's infecting every idea I have: I don't market. I expect organic growth. I expect to tell someone about my blog who tells someone else about my blog who tells someone else about my blog and, sooner or later, I'll be making just as much money as [Financial Samurai](https://www.financialsamurai.com/). But if there's one thing that Neil Strauss has taught me about writing, it's that [No One Cares About You](https://www.facebook.com/neilstrauss/videos/10156191072914432/) -- and, also, you should keep open loops like the ones above. But they like to hear about your failures, and they like you to have life experience that they can learn from to improve their own lives (especially the dweebo workaholics in the PF space). In this post, I want to to lay out a plan to get at least ~1k views per month for two months. https://i1.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stats.png?w=744&ssl=1 I've never actually broken 1k views in a month. On Twitter, I asked my fellow PF bloggers ([The Frugal Gene](https://www.thefrugalgene.com/), [Debt Free Geek](https://debtfreegeek.org/), and [Dividend Diplomats](https://www.dividenddiplomats.com/)) for advice on how to build a bigger following, and Lily from The Frugal Gene told me I should look into Frugal Asian Finance's Blog Traffic Reports, so that's what I'm going to do. ## Lessons Frugal Asian Finance, according to her post, "[How I Went From 0 To 31,104 Views/mo In 7 Months,](https://frugalasianfinance.com/went-0-31104-viewsmo-7-months/)" said that her main source of traffic was from Pinterest. It seems the obvious answer, for me, would be to copy her. Make a Pinterest and promote, right? Well, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to use her success as a framework, but I'm not building the same house. Pinterest in particular would be a poor site for me to use. The same thing goes for anyone else who's writing about cryptocurrency. Tim Ferris said in The Four-Hour Workweek that you shouldn't waste time trying to create demand; instead, you should fulfill demand that already exists. According to the Omnicore Agency, 81% of Pinterest users are female and only 7% of total pins on Pinterest are created by men. Meanwhile, since Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies offer their users and investors a level of anonymity that's virtually unknown in any other industry, hard statistics are fairly difficult to come by. However, Coin Dance has surveyed Google Analytics data and compiled a "Bitcoin Community Engagement by Gender" infographic. It mirrors a SurveyMonkey survey that I did on r/Bitcoin pretty well (even if I only got ~30 responses): https://i2.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/bitcoincommunity.png?w=747&ssl=1 For whatever reason, interest in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are largely driven by males. As a sidenote, this creates, in my opinion, a huge demand for women's voices in the industry. No one wants to hear about what another young white millennial has to say about the future of financial technology, but everyone wants to hear about what an attractive woman has to say about it. In the coming years, I think it might be a good idea to promote my blog on sites like Pinterest. For now, however, while cryptocurrencies are still viewed as a risky investment -- and women's investment strategies (and natures) tend to be more risk-averse -- I'm going to start promoting my posts on steemit instead. (It should be noted that, ironically, women's risk-averse investment strategies tend to make them better investors): https://i2.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/sigfigwomen.jpg?w=960&ssl=1 Probably has a lot to do with men actively managing their portfolios (as the next chart in the article shows) more than women. What is steemit? I like to put it this way: steemit is reddit, except it pays the content creators. I already earned one whole penny for my last article on their site. Here's a good guide on getting started in the steemit community. The gist, as he stated, is this: Steemit pays both the content creators when their work gets upvoted, as well as the people who curate the best content on the site by upvoting others work. There are three main forms of currency that the steemit community uses: Steem, Steem Power, and Steem Dollars. Steem works just like any other currency in the crypto space. You can buy and sell it on any exchange where it's offered. Steem Power is a little bit different. Steem Power is a little like buying influence on steemit. The more Steem Power you have, the more your vote counts. However, the catch is that you're not allowed to sell Steem Power units until you've owned and held them for two years. Steem Dollars are kind of like Steem, except Steem Dollars are what you're rewarded with when someone upvotes your post. I plan on becoming more active within the steem community. We'll see how this plays out in terms of blog followers. For all intents and purposes, I'm starting this experiment with virtually zero followers. I'll put $100 in this first month to see if it works. |

But they like to hear about your failures, and they like you to have life experience that they can learn from to improve their own lives (especially the dweebo workaholics in the PF space).\n\nIn this post, I want to to lay out a plan to get at least ~1k views per month for two months.\n\nhttps://i1.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/stats.png?w=744&ssl=1\n\nI've never actually broken 1k views in a month.\n\nOn Twitter, I asked my fellow PF bloggers ([The Frugal Gene](https://www.thefrugalgene.com/), [Debt Free Geek](https://debtfreegeek.org/), and [Dividend Diplomats](https://www.dividenddiplomats.com/)) for advice on how to build a bigger following, and Lily from The Frugal Gene told me I should look into Frugal Asian Finance's Blog Traffic Reports, so that's what I'm going to do.\n\n## Lessons\n\nFrugal Asian Finance, according to her post, \"[How I Went From 0 To 31,104 Views/mo In 7 Months,](https://frugalasianfinance.com/went-0-31104-viewsmo-7-months/)\" said that her main source of traffic was from Pinterest. It seems the obvious answer, for me, would be to copy her. Make a Pinterest and promote, right?\n\nWell, I'm not going to do that. I'm going to use her success as a framework, but I'm not building the same house.\n\nPinterest in particular would be a poor site for me to use. The same thing goes for anyone else who's writing about cryptocurrency. Tim Ferris said in The Four-Hour Workweek that you shouldn't waste time trying to create demand; instead, you should fulfill demand that already exists. According to the Omnicore Agency, 81% of Pinterest users are female and only 7% of total pins on Pinterest are created by men.\n\nMeanwhile, since Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies offer their users and investors a level of anonymity that's virtually unknown in any other industry, hard statistics are fairly difficult to come by. However, Coin Dance has surveyed Google Analytics data and compiled a \"Bitcoin Community Engagement by Gender\" infographic. It mirrors a SurveyMonkey survey that I did on r/Bitcoin pretty well (even if I only got ~30 responses):\n\nhttps://i2.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/bitcoincommunity.png?w=747&ssl=1\n\nFor whatever reason, interest in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are largely driven by males. As a sidenote, this creates, in my opinion, a huge demand for women's voices in the industry. No one wants to hear about what another young white millennial has to say about the future of financial technology, but everyone wants to hear about what an attractive woman has to say about it.\n\nIn the coming years, I think it might be a good idea to promote my blog on sites like Pinterest. For now, however, while cryptocurrencies are still viewed as a risky investment -- and women's investment strategies (and natures) tend to be more risk-averse -- I'm going to start promoting my posts on steemit instead. (It should be noted that, ironically, women's risk-averse investment strategies tend to make them better investors):\n\nhttps://i2.wp.com/www.bravenewblockchain.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/sigfigwomen.jpg?w=960&ssl=1\n\nProbably has a lot to do with men actively managing their portfolios (as the next chart in the article shows) more than women.\nWhat is steemit? I like to put it this way: steemit is reddit, except it pays the content creators. I already earned one whole penny for my last article on their site. Here's a good guide on getting started in the steemit community. The gist, as he stated, is this:\n\nSteemit pays both the content creators when their work gets upvoted, as well as the people who curate the best content on the site by upvoting others work.\n\nThere are three main forms of currency that the steemit community uses: Steem, Steem Power, and Steem Dollars.\n\nSteem works just like any other currency in the crypto space. You can buy and sell it on any exchange where it's offered.\n\nSteem Power is a little bit different. Steem Power is a little like buying influence on steemit. The more Steem Power you have, the more your vote counts. However, the catch is that you're not allowed to sell Steem Power units until you've owned and held them for two years.\n\nSteem Dollars are kind of like Steem, except Steem Dollars are what you're rewarded with when someone upvotes your post.\n\nI plan on becoming more active within the steem community. We'll see how this plays out in terms of blog followers. For all intents and purposes, I'm starting this experiment with virtually zero followers. I'll put $100 in this first month to see if it works.",
