| body | Stefan Molyneux once said "empirical evidence always trumps reason". That stuck with me. During the 7 or 8 years I was a Rothbardian/Randian, my main focus was ethics, and what that boiled down to was "property rights". For me this was unconnected to the matter of Austrian economics, be it Hayekian or Misesian. The Rothbardian NAP is similar enough to Rand's, and IIRC Rand came up with it first, and as far as I could tell, she had better reasoning for it. But regardless, the NAP sits upon the idea of private property, and the idea of private property is Lockean. So I spent some time reading about Locke. And Locke was an anglo empiricist. And we can talk about transforming the land and occupier-ownership etc, but to me a property right boiled down to will and ability to defend, and firearms were the great equaliser (rather than decision maker). Although up to that point, that was reserved in my mind to physical and scarce goods only. But when I got to this point, I discovered a new found interest in exploring different perspectives on metaphysics and epistemology. With the contemporary politics of 2015-2016, there were a few options around, and I had zero inhibitions in exploring what was available. I'd read just about enough Mises, which is hard going, going over synthetic a priori et al (but it explains Hoppe's Argumentation Ethics). And there is still something about Misesian Praxeology that fascinates me, even though I no longer identify with it. But at the time, I was relatively Misesian. And of course the Mises Institute had been my goto source since the beginning of my interest in libertarian ideas. Further, a stronger Austrian influence on me was the Mengerian subjective, marginal utility theory of value. And subjectivism has always been a strong point for me regarding knowledge. Yet, I was a massive fan of Piekoff's rhetoric on metaphysics and objective reality. And most of the stuff I was into preached the value of the scientific method. But then Dr Jordan B Peterson and Curt Doolittle showed up on radar. After the libertarian Thick/Thin/Brutalist war, I'd become relatively knowledgeable of Cultural Marxism (the Jewish Frankfurt School and the French Post-Modernists), Peterson was packing heavy punches, and uniquely among the right, getting a lot of mainstream attention and tolerance. To boot, in his eyes at least, he's a British "classic" (As he puts it) liberal. Meaning classical liberalism, and individualism, which was right up my street. I thought myself an ancap but realistic and non-ideological enough to tolerate and even enjoy classical liberal "statists". Who are the last vestige of anything resembling a right wing platform on the public stage. But there were some good arguments about in reference to weaknesses of individualism. Particularly how radical, “autistic” individualism was failing to protect the ideas of private property and common law upon which my remaining liberties rest, in the face of Cultural Marxism’s march through the institutions. This gave me pause and lead to quite a significant change in my values and relationship to my social environment. Now to most Austrians Methodological Individualism is a post in the ground. And to be fair, as far as I can tell, MI is valid and useful and scientific. But when libertarians talk of individualism, there is often a conflation of MI with ethics, an attempt to say the 2 are intrinsic to each other (self ownership et al). And this conflation has perverse and parasitic consequences. An unscientific individualist egalitarianism founded on the myth of objective universal morality - which essentially is an ally not a foe of Cultural Marxism. And this conflation comes from Mises, Rand and Rothbard. You can't philosophically derive an ought from an is. And this is a quote attributable to another British empiricist, Hume. I'd followed many of the well documented debates around this dichotomy in Objectivist and Libertarian circles. Nozick I think made Hume's case conclusively for me. And funnily enough I suspect arch-minarchist Jan Helfield also espouses something of Hume's perspective. But Peterson was even more interesting. He observes different kinds of truth, of knowledge. And seemingly doesn't hold any one to be better than the other, though maybe what most people would think of as scientific objective truth, ascertained via the Aristotelian scientific method is "as good as we can get", or "useful enough", to satisfy our needs. Ultimately, philosophically, ethics, and then knowledge and reality became a lot more subjective to me. But the idea of how we cooperate and how society is organised, and live a good life, was still very much important to me. I did not become a nihilist. Evermore the opposite. Peterson had got me on the fundamentals of epistemology, but it left the question, if epistemology is subjective, then how do we gain knowledge with any certainty beyond our own individual experience? Well scientists do it all the time. They rely on reporting of measurements taken from operations in experiments, they use the scientific method (reason) to construct, and science to deconstruct. And the only reason we have working computers and are exploring space right now is because the truth was reported and lies were dismantled to those ends. This is the essence of Doolittle’s heavy emphasis on science to deconstruct - to get to a more accurate and useful epistemology. Once you have that, you can begin to hold view points that can be expressed in terms of ethics (preferences). I am a libertarian. And so my preferences lean that way anyway. But having undergone a radical epistemological shift, this meant I was no longer an ancap for starters, at least not a Rothbardian. This has been a bit troubling for me as I have met some wonderful and very intelligent and well meaning Misesians, and I know how this bothers them, especially considering the investments made in the cause over the past decade. |

| title | The fall of classical liberal ideology in the sceptic community, and the persistent rise of identitarian realists |
| body | The identitarian massacre of the YouTube "sceptic community" continues to take major scalps. This time Sargon's. This was another major piece of YT history, following the fall of Kraut and Tea to Ryan Faulk and Jean-François Gariépy. Left leaning YT personality Warski recently hosted a discussion between Sargon of Akkad and Richard Spencer. Other YT personalities of the left and right were also participating. While Styx plays a good fire-fighter, and Jean-François' assertions are poignant, Millennial Woes, Vee and that odd ball SJW should be ignored. The value here is specifically in the back and forth between Sargon and Spencer. While I have my doubts about Spencer's possible comfort with socialism and censorship, this debate elevated his philosophical level in my view. In this debate, which was the number 1 trending live stream on YT at the time, Sargon's well-meaning classical liberalism is revealed for the unscientific ideology it is, he was defeated roundly. And if you decide to watch the debate, I feel it right to warn you, Sargon's self-conceit and general debating style in this is nauseating. But let's look past that. Sargon imagines a "right" to be something which exists independently. It doesn't. A right is an extension of contract (stated or implied). Ultimately a "right" is a liberty, or a privilege if you will, that is granted permission by, and insured by, a cooperative with "power" (the will and ability to use force), basically a militia of some kind. So when Sargon says "you're advocating might-makes-right", it's somewhat true. But not in the sense that he means it. The way he means it, is in terms of morality. This is his mysticism. That there exists an objective universal morality. That is Sargon's ideology, which he denies is an ideology, while he accuses others of being religiously ideological. Notice how Sargon persists in skipping epistemology to try and to focus the discussion on his mystic ethics. It's tempting to skip the hard stuff, because it is hard. And makes it harder to justify lies about morality. Individuality and Lockean property rights are great, at least for the anglo-sphere, but that's because we are able to safe guard them. Other races not so much. Even the French and Germans have great trouble with this. Which can be explained by their geography, their vulnerability on the continent, lacking an island fortress, a condition that permits a homogenous people to construct such liberties. But if you've followed Sargon a while, it gets worse if you're a Sargonite. Because scratch beneath his Lockean liberalism and you will find he espouses a far worse theory of rights, specifically that conceived of by a frenchman, Rousseau. The influence may not be direct, but Sargon is known to covet the US' constitution and it's worth noting the influence of the French on America's founding. And Thomas Paine himself seems to me to have been quite 'at home' in France. In short, when Sargon says he's an "English" liberal, pass the salt. Locke at least invested a lot of energy on epistemology, and further, his political ideas can often, largely and reasonably, be understood to apply particularly, not universally. This is to say Locke was nowhere near the egalitarian and universalist that Sargon is. Locke was considerably governed by empiricism. Sargon not so much. The YT sceptic community's persistence in denying "race-realism" will be their downfall. Sam Harris recently interviewed Charles Murray on human intelligence and the bell curve. Douglas Murray's "The Strange Death of Europe" has received considerable mainstream attention. These issues are not going away and the sceptic community is falling behind. The pressure on these issues is thinly veiled by political parties and the mainstream media. There really is very little resistance at this stage. Which is interesting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiUH-tWHbr8&t=4s |

But not in the sense that he means it. The way he means it, is in terms of morality. This is his mysticism. That there exists an objective universal morality. That is Sargon's ideology, which he denies is an ideology, while he accuses others of being religiously ideological.\n\nNotice how Sargon persists in skipping epistemology to try and to focus the discussion on his mystic ethics. It's tempting to skip the hard stuff, because it is hard. And makes it harder to justify lies about morality.\n\nIndividuality and Lockean property rights are great, at least for the anglo-sphere, but that's because we are able to safe guard them. Other races not so much. Even the French and Germans have great trouble with this. Which can be explained by their geography, their vulnerability on the continent, lacking an island fortress, a condition that permits a homogenous people to construct such liberties.\n\nBut if you've followed Sargon a while, it gets worse if you're a Sargonite. In short, when Sargon says he's an \"English\" liberal, pass the salt.\n\nLocke at least invested a lot of energy on epistemology, and further, his political ideas can often, largely and reasonably, be understood to apply particularly, not universally. This is to say Locke was nowhere near the egalitarian and universalist that Sargon is. Locke was considerably governed by empiricism. Sargon not so much.\n\nThe YT sceptic community's persistence in denying \"race-realism\" will be their downfall. Sam Harris recently interviewed Charles Murray on human intelligence and the bell curve. Douglas Murray's \"The Strange Death of Europe\" has received considerable mainstream attention. These issues are not going away and the sceptic community is falling behind.\n\nThe pressure on these issues is thinly veiled by political parties and the mainstream media. There really is very little resistance at this stage. Which is interesting.\n\nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UiUH-tWHbr8&t=4s",

| title | The fall of ideological classical liberalism in the sceptic community, and the rise of right-wing identity politics |
| body | The identitarian massacre of the YouTube "sceptic community" continues to take major scalps. Ultimately a "right" is a liberty, or a privilege if you will, that is granted permission by, and insured by, a cooperative with "power" (the will and ability to use force), basically a militia of some kind. | body | Hello Steemit. I'm here to discuss history, philosophy, science, economics, law, politics, culture, art and more. Here is my brief but honest introduction post. While I don't mind labels, I am constantly learning. So have been through my fair share already. My family's politics could be summarised as traditionally English, leaning conservative, but also affected by boomer 1968 values, including socialism, but also reaction. So a bit of a mess, but ultimately leaning right. Early adulthood saw me enmeshed in ideas of traditional European anarchism and getting to grips with Marxism and post-modernist thought, this served me well at university. I was opposed to the Afghanistan and Iraq invasions at the time and have remained a non-interventionist libertarian. I was an activist for a few years and participated in some high profile and influential direct action with a small but effective group of eco-warrior anarchists. I have long since abandoned them. I've always had an interest in economics and have studied the field with a degree of passion, this is possibly due to how the Savings & Loans crisis impacted my family in the late 80s. Ron Paul 2008 saw me transition from left to right anarchism, as I began to find Marxist ideas and their influence as morally problematic. I've studied Austrian Economics avidly as an amateur since then. Mostly the Mises, Rothbard, Hoppe line. I could probably read more Hayek. I've also studied the Friedmans (Milton, David and Patri) and other economists and political theorists from various neighbouring or opposing schools of thought (Aristotle, classical liberalism, Locke, Chicago school, neo-classical...). For a long time I regarded myself as an anarcho-objectivist having been lit up by Ayn Rand and Leonard Piekoff. I would no longer describe myself as an Austro-Libertarian or a Randian, though I still find *some* value in those camps. Around 2015, post-modernist critical-theory had attained unbearable levels across society for me. And around the same time, the migrant crisis, terrorism and the changing face of Britain compelled me to break free of many unhelpful (counter-productive even) jewish ideas of libertarianism leading nowhere, and to explore a much broader field of libertarian and reactionary thought, and beyond. A big part of this personal revolution was shifting my focus from ethics to epistemology, and favouring a more empirical and particularist rather than rationalist or a-priori approach. I would be lying if I didn't say Jordan Peterson's work wasn't influential in this regard (though I have many others to thank for their insights also). Epistemology remains probably the most fascinating and enlightening aspect of philosophy for me. So since then I have been begun to explore the ideas of Sean Gabb's Libertarian Alliance, Enoch Powell, Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, Jung, Thomas Carlyle. Ideas which have resonated with my intuitions at a deeper level. I am not "alt-right", though I do sympathise with their concerns, I do approve of the European Identitarians (specifically Generation Identity) and I am a "race-realist" (for want of a better term). I do consider myself part of the New Right being particularly influenced by the current Propertarian ideas of Curt Doolittle, Bill Joslin's Sheepdog Nomocracy and others in those circles who are not really known. Especially their epistemology and the ideas of Testimonialism and full-accounting. I tend to describe my self as a paleo-libertarian, generally an anti-statist, a receptive contrarian, an optimistic realist, with neo-reactionary and tribalist tendencies. I seek the restoration of an aristocratic (militia based), decentralised (localist) and hierarchical eugenic order, while also embracing tech-futurism and holding individual liberty as the coveted prize of sovereignty. I value wisdom but also action. I consider all the British Isles to be utterly sacred, and the Anglo-Saxons the most valuable people on the earth. I post often on my FB profile. Comment often on YT. And occasionally post on Twitter and alternative social media sites. I will try and keep my effort-posts to Steemit. https://facebook.com/oliver.westcott https://twitter.com/olly_westcott https://youtube.com/channel/UCtAOSy2BdutWf1DGPzGWEXQ https://soundcloud.com/oliver-westcott-158170359 https://minds.com/oliverwestcott https://gab.ai/OliverWestcott https://vk.com/oliverwestcott |
