Which I did.\n\nOne of them was Joe Parys. The first piece of advice I learned from him was to invest in STEEM to power up. Then, in that video, he explains the process of converting from BTC to STEEM through Binance.\n\nHe reveals how he uses bots to get to the top of the trending page. He also explains a few sections of the wallet.\n\nWhat called my attention was how he emphasized the importance of the marketing part of one’s Steemit content distribution.\n\nI liked the idea and wanted to do as he explained. What followed was the bumpiest ride I ever had doing a digital transaction of money.\n\n## My First Purchase of Crypto-Currency\n\n<center>![create-wallet-contract-to-see-incoming-transactions.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeFipppvK3KUBNXFeWrf4aesB4pRtE2mT9DCLHVguc8za/create-wallet-contract-to-see-incoming-transactions.jpg) </center>\n\nWhen I started this journey to follow Joe Parys’ method, I wanted to use sixteen dollars from my Fiverr account to buy \n\nWhat I planned to do was, once I got those twenty-odd dollars on PayPal, buy BTC to then buy STEEM with BTC.\n\nBut I went through all kinds of trouble to achieve this. What I learned basically is that all moving around of monetary value on the web costs, and not just fractions of one cent exactly.\n\nThe first hurdle was that I couldn’t find a way to buy BTC. I don’t remember exactly, but I think I could, but I had a problem with not having accounts in the sites to do the transactions.\n\nBecause the sites to do the transactions required all kinds of authentication nonsense, I ended up doing with the transfer with the sites that gave me less trouble.\n\nBecause of that, I was a quite convoluted and slow process.\n\nDon’t be penny-pinching like I was. My advice is if you’re going to experiment investing money in your Steemit blog, then go as direct as you can.\n\nLike, use the ‘Buy Steem’ button and use the channels and exchanges endorsed by the platform only. Don’t go as much trouble as I went through.\n\n## A Little Word of Advice\n\n<center>![send-eth-to-wallet_censored.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQodfvn49tmfREvsWJzFCPGa93RNNPMMp1t8HdT6FHBZf/send-eth-to-wallet_censored.jpg) </center>\n\nDisclaimer: This piece of advice may be wrong, but it’s based on my personal experience and I assure you that it’s the truth of what happened.\n\nIf you want to buy Steem Power with digital funds or crypto coins brought from other blockchains or wallets, then don’t do what I did.\n\nWhat I did was registering in like a dozen different sites, some exchanges, some blockchains, and their wallets, to try to find how I could move the currency around. Don’t do that.\n\nI should have gotten in touch with the community and asked. I didn’t, I just wanted to learn by myself and I ended up losing a lot of time.\n\nTo have to lose time getting to know the crypto exchanges, other blockchains, and their wallets was disgusting.\n\nIt killed my enthusiasm. After knowing those services, all the fun I was having to work with cryptos up to that moment evaporated.\n\nI think I tried a few wallet services, like Xapo, BlockChain.info,  and exchanges like CoinBase, Binance, and Bittrex, but none of these worked for me.\n\nThey might have worked for someone with a lot of patience and time on their hands. But not for me, in some I couldn’t even validate myself.\n\nMost of these sites had unreasonably identification measures that require too many motions and personal information that defeat the purposes of speedy transactions and alleged “privacy” of cryptocurrencies.\n\nI ended up using the Ethereum Mist Wallet. It was a clunky, buggy software with a large storage footprint. I think 1GB+ disk space, the 64 bits version.\n\nFor some reason that I don’t remember now, I had both versions installed. So it was something like 1.5GB in total. Happily, that wallet is discontinued now. I don’t care about the actual 1.5GB lost to it, but is it necessary for a crypto wallet to take that much storage space?\n\nStill, it was a fun experience, because my first contact with Ethereum was to do something useful, and not just a superficial review. The ETH I bought on Local Cryptos is credited in my Mist ETH wallet\nE. I bought STEEM POWER from Blocktrades using those ETH\nF. To be constantly on the move and not fixed somewhere was, by far, the happiest period of my life.\n\nWhile I was living like that I had to deal with the old world’s alternatives to overseas money wiring, read Amex’s Travellers Checks, Money Gram, and Western Union.\n\nTraveler’s checks might have been a thing in the very slow world of the second half of the 20th century, but they were worthless when I used them in the early 2000s.\n\nI doubt that those things were of any use at all outside of America. Because in Europe the only way to exchange them was in an Amex office in an important city, no one, not even forex traders would take them.\n\nThe Amex office in Asia just reserved their rights to buy some from me, and I ended up getting rid of them selling them for much less than they were worth to a forex exchanger.\n\nThis was in the beginning when I didn’t know about the broad topic of electronic funds transfers which included bank transfers.\n\nThis first time around, in the early 2000s, I didn’t have big problems, the only decision my banker had to make was sending it by either Western Union or Moneygram. Most of the time it was through Moneygram, due to lower transaction fees.\n\nSince my banker deposited the money, until I could cash it out, the average waiting time was three days, for a North America to South Asia transfer.\n\n## Same South Asian Place, Nine Years Later ##\n\n\n<center>![447935991_3a0335c27b_o.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeCcL7xWpCK26ZmvK3cxpaE4sXwspvKQEqU7JWS6afJCw/447935991_3a0335c27b_o.jpg)</center>\n\n\nBut when I needed again to make use of international funds transfers, it happened at the same time I began crawling my baby steps on the crypto world.\n\nI was on the road again. That time I was decided not to use wire services anymore. I wanted to learn how to receive transfers and payments overseas but doing it through cryptos or banks, but not by WU or similars anymore.\n\nThere weren’t crypto exchanges in the place I was going back then in early 2013. I fell back to plan-b, which was to use banks, in my case it was HSBC.\n\nI didn’t like what I learned about bank-based international money transfers. To do it you have to have a bank account. And even with one, it wasn’t, by any means, an easy or cheap thing to do.\n\nGenerally, not any bank will transfer money to any other bank. With some of the banks, a country’s branch won’t transfer to another country’s branch. Very restrictive and playing by the old world rules.\n\nAlready by late 2012 I was interested and researching ways to use cryptos for overseas electronic funds transfers.\n\nThere weren’t many cryptocurrencies back then in 2012, and even if it didn’t seem complicated, for me it looked too much in its initial stages.\n\nMy first contact with cryptocurrencies was with Bitcoin and Dogecoin back then. Still, I didn’t adopt any of those two.\n\nI paid the price of not being an earlyvangelist of cryptos because when I went overseas, receiving money from another country, in that place, had become nigh-impossible by conventional channels.\n\nBut, like I said, cryptos were just starting in 2013 and there wasn’t even a lot of online crypto exchanges, what to say of a brick and mortar crypto exchanger. Maybe there were some in NYC, but not where I was going.\n\nPertaining wires, in 2013, when I returned there after a long time, I can’t remember right now, but I think either the transaction fees were extremely unfair, or either one (or maybe both) of the two companies had left.\n\n## The Systems of The Old World Were Corruption-Fuelled ##\n\n<center>![[resized] no-corruption-4650589_640 (1).png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZEtUjCK5j26VVWUY8hFRvsDbrt1dfgKmkBoqK6wU4Ujd/[resized]%20no-corruption-4650589_640%20(1).png)</center>\n\nTo face the fact that in that particular place it wasn’t as easy as before to perform electronic funds transfers was an indicator that things had changed. It had a lot to do with why I decided not to work there.\n\nIn a long list of disadvantages, the change in the money wires service market of the town weighted in.\n\nThat tipped the scales towards aborting my plans. It just wasn’t worth the suffering to try to stay there and work illegally.\n\nWhat to say of working with all the paperwork in order? I was warned by more than one person to be prepared to have an additional amount, 20% of the startup capital, on top of it to be given away as “desk-jokey grease.”\n\nThe 20% backsheesh could make or break a startup there. Those that didn’t pay were tired around for years in bureaucratic limbo.\n\nThe place was corrupted and revenue dispensing services had quitted. That was a red flag I saw right then and there. What could have been the start of an expat business was just a five-month-long life lesson.\n\nThis was early 2013, there weren’t as many choices as of now, and I was too green an entrepreneur to be able to find ways to do business without feeling I was cut from the rest of the world and submitting to the local (socialist/restrictive) reality.\n\n## The “Pandemic” is The Old World’s Smacks of Drowning ##\n\n<center>![[resized]49790376433_b34710350b_c.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmeuwuCcQqryKnASGV2qRfoQC4r2Phu9S3fXdvXWrwDWnh/[resized]49790376433_b34710350b_c.png)</center>\n\n\nIn the department of moving money around the world without giving explanations to nobody or to, at least, do it discreetly, the system was dealt a disabling blow with the rise of crypto-currency culture.\n\nA thing like the coronavirus is one in a series of effects, big and small that we will see as a consequence of the death of the old way of doing things as opposed to a new dawn of freedom.\n\nI’m not saying that nCoV-19 was something staged and something that somebody has spread on purpose to enslave the world. I don’t know if such a thing was what transpired.\n\nI’m just saying that it is an expression of the unhealthy and reactionary backlash of the spirit of the old world. A system that can’t stand something as liberating and empowering as cryptocurrencies coupled with other world-belittling improvements over the past, like social media and such.\n\nI urge you to incorporate into your life an active interest in the law and as many law-related skills and studies as you can. I saw it was a good article, and that it was 2 years old. It struck me again, like many times already on this platform.\n\nIt's a pity that empowering and actionable content like this has the potential to earn only when it's released, and not years later when other persons find and find it still useful/\n\nI see that it earned you 85+ dollars, you've been lucky with it. The problem is those starting out, if they don't have patience, money to get SP and initial exposure, and a strategy for the content, any content as good as this might not reach a reasonable compensation for the value they've put in.",

Other than a very pedestrian contact with the crypto world around 2013, I haven’t had the opportunity to get into the nitty-gritty of anything related to blockchain technology and crypto-coins.\n\nDue to that, my first days on Steemit were overwhelming. First off, because my ignorance of blockchain technology in general and of Steemit in particular. To remedy this, I gathered a list of a few posts that helped me, I’m will share them in the second part of this post.\n\nWhat happened to me was that, when I was accepted into the platform, I wanted to write about cryptos/blockchain, but it’s not a subject to approach lightly, like you could approach any other topic.\n\nI will start with Steemit and write about it for a while. Only when my knowledge of the platform becomes solid I will get down to useful posts on other subjects in general as related to Steemit.\n\nI think that it’s fit for me to approach my content strategy on Steemit this way. It’s appropriate, because Steemit, being the starting point in my personal blockchain journey, deserves a showing of appreciation from me.\n\nIt isn’t the fact that registration and onboarding took time and evaluation. Or that I want to flatter the community to get something in return. To write about Steemit, is a question of not feeling like it’s a fit to publish content here. And to reach that confidence, I must learn everything I can about the platform first.\n\nAnyway, since I had this notes from before, I’m sharing them, and letting a plethora of other newbie-related content I curated for the second post (and last) part of this article.\n\nThis is a summary copied almost verbatim from my notes on both of STEEM’s technical papers. This isn’t meant as a substitute to reading both papers yourself and taking your own takeaways. It’s just my take. This means that SP is an access token that grants its holders exclusive powers within the Steem platform.\n\nAlso, participants earn new tokens based on the balance of SP that remains vested. The amount of new tokens they receive is directly proportional to the amount of SP they hold relative to the total amount of vested SP across all users.\n\n### STEEM Dollars (SBD)\n\nSteem Dollars are created by a mechanism similar to convertible notes, which are often used to fund start-ups. In the start-up world, convertible notes are short-term debt instruments that can be converted to ownership at a rate determined in the future, typically during a future funding round.\n\nCreating token-convertible dollars enables blockchains to grow their network effect while maximizing the return for token holders.\n\n## Subjective Contributions\n\nThe applications of a currency implementing subjective proof of work are far wider than any objective proof of work system.\n\nThe value each currency achieves depends upon the demand for influence within a particular community\n\n## Payout Distribution\n\nEach year, 75% of the yearly inflation is distributed to users submitting, voting on, and discussing content. If someone with a $1 balance wishes to perform five transactions at once, they will have to increase their balance to $5 for a week either before or after their transactions.\n\nIt is more efficient for users to simply buy and sell the time shares necessary to meet their desired usage rate.\n\nThe cost of negotiating micro-loans is greater than the cost of maintaining a balance suitable for your maximum weekly usage.\n\n### PERFORMANCE AND SCALABILITY\n\nBuilt upon Graphene, that has publicly demonstrated to sustain over 1000 transactions per second on a distributed test network.\n\nGraphene can easily scale to 10,000 or more transactions per second with relatively straightforward improvements to server capacity and communication protocols.\n\n### ALLOCATION AND SUPPLY\n\nOf the new tokens that are generated,\n\n75% go to fund the reward pool, which is split between authors and curators\n15% of the new tokens are awarded to holders of SP.\n10% pays for the witnesses to power the blockchain.\n\n<center>![steem-bluepaper.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmVh5BQfvvyudtG3ZXR6XRmQkxQvHmpnsxRbfBjyLun9dw/steem-bluepaper.jpg)</center>\n\n# Takeaways from Blue Paper\n\nThe unique properties of STEEM make it both “smart” and “social” compared to others, such as Bitcoin and Ether.\n\nSTEEM is a _social and smart crypto-currency_.\n\nThese two properties become:\n\nA) Proof of Brain\n\nMechanisms for establishing and evaluating content’s social value.\n\nB) Rewards pool\n\nA pool of tokens dedicated to incentivizing content creation and curation (called the “rewards pool”).\n\nTokens are produced differently in DPoS blockchains than they are in PoW blockchains. It also has less frequent database corruption, allows instant “snapshotting” of entire database state, and can serve more RPC requests from the same\nMemory.\n\n## Appbase\n\nAppBase enables different cores, or even different computers, to maintain different parts of the Steem blockchain.\n\nSteem Platform Features\n\nSteem is:\n\n1.A digital token processing system.\n2.A mainstream social media platform\n\n## Primitives Designed for Content Applications\n\nSteem offers users the unique ability to publish and store different types of content directly and permanently into the immutable ledger of the blockchain as plain text.\n\nSeveral of the blockchain primitives developers can build from include Account Names, Posts, Comments, Votes and Account Balance.\n\n## Native Name system\n\nEach participant’s user name is their wallet address, which bolsters the user experience for participants who attempt to send tokens because they can verify the addresses from their own memory.\n\n## SBD or Steem Dollars\n\nIn order to help bridge the gap between more traditional fiat money systems which mainstream users are used to, and the cryptocurrency tokens which they are awarded through the platform, a new currency called Steem Blockchain Dollars (SBD) was created.\n\n## Decentralized Exchange\n\nThe Steem blockchain offers a decentralized token exchange, similar to the BitShares exchange.\n\nUsers are able to place buy and sell orders, and order matching is performed automatically by the blockchain. This is done in the same way as BitShares.\n\n## Multiple Reward Beneficiaries\n\nThis includes the author, possible co-authors, referrers, hosting providers, blogs that embedded blockchain comments, and tool developers.\n\n## SMT\n\nThe final three features touched by STEEM Bluepaper are Stolen Account Recovery, Security through Time-Locks and Bandwidth Rate Limiting for Fee-less Operations, which I didn’t include due to my own self-imposed post length limitations\n\n## Conclusion\n\nThe unique rewards and incentive program offered by the Steem blockchain and token are designed to make Steem the ultimate on-ramp into cryptocurrency for mainstream users.\n\n# I Will be Working to Invest on SP\n\nI haven’t been posting because I’m preparing a long (more than 3000 words) and useful post. It’s getting to be a long, full of obstacles path to achieve what I want.
