Although it is to be expected since the day VR arrived, but I had never seen any other companies bring out this technology. — I think that’s the reason for my fascination about living in China. With the cut-throat competitions, theater apps have to out-innovate their peers. And although the quality of the VR experience of the app I used was only okayish, I sincerely applaud their go-for-it mentality. They sure are monetizing on their MVP.\n\nThe app in discussion was MoreTickets.com (Its Chinese name is Ferris Wheel Tickets). It was one of the top three ticketing apps in Mainland China, the other being PiaoNiu (Ticket Cow) and DaMai (Big Barley). With their selling points all being discounted tickets, the VR seat selection function of MoreTickets definitely propel its novelty value way above the other two.\n\nThey had apparently registered a software IP already way back in 2015. It was in June 2017 that the news broke and November 2017 that the function launched. The funny thing was that I had discovered it only now.\n\nTo make it work, the show-hosting theaters would obviously need to have their seating space scanned and remodeled in 3-D. Not every theater and art center is technically connected enough to realize they have a new for it. After all, some of these theaters have just started getting used to digital ticketing!\n\nYou could see that a lot of people asking questions on the Chinese version of Quora how this VR Function could be used. Apparently, a lot of people are confused to see the double vision appearing on the screens of their phones. For those that are technologically savvy, they know immediately to slide their phone into a VR headset (or simply ignore the fact that you are seeing double on the flat screen) and sweep the phone around to let its gyroscope and accelerometers do the work.\n\nWas the experience a 100% close to reality? Not really. But was I impressed? Yes. It’s absolutely exciting to be the first among your friends to do something like that. This is Vann Chow, an engineer and a novel writer. I spotted the tag \"introduceyourself\", and I thought I might give it a try, although this blatantly looks and feels like an ad (and it kinda is). Oh well, don't we all have something to sell? If not the words we typed, then the ideas in our heads? To sell is human, to market you take a shameless bastard like yours truly (I have been genuinely brainwashed into thinking that engineers are useless by all the marketing how-to books in the market. There was even one titled 'Even Edison Needs To Sell His Lightbulb'). To make this post seems completely innocent, I have refrained from posting a link to it, although I suspect that regardless of with or without the link, my book, the so-called 'World's very first bitcoin and cryptocurrency crime thrillers' (cast with a Chinese main character based in Shanghai, China, is somewhat humorous and could be described further as a first-of-its-kind tech-comedy) would still go unread by the tech community until I don't know, I don't want to think about it. Truth be told, I just had lots of fun writing it. There was a fire burning in me to get a story like that out, about crypto schemes and scams. Some of them so clever, some of them are beyond dumb. Most of them are inspired by real happenings in the real world, which is what makes writing such a story a necessity. It's the story of our times, somebody gotta spend time documenting it. \n\nI started writing a series of techno-crime fictions a few years ago. The first of the series enjoyed moderate success. It was about a young Chinese programmer called Jong He and his accidental adventure just living his life minding his own business most of the time. Ridiculous last name and a Dutch-sounding first name aside, Jong was a humble, smart but lazy (aren't we all), sarcastic son-of-a-gun. In Bitcoin Clowns he forayed into the world of cryptocurrency by accident when his pet crypto project got backed (and then seized) by his mighty employer, an international Norwegian bank.  At the same time, his cousin was found to be missing, after a terrible murder of his crypto-fund business partner. And to make matters worse, his cousin had used his name as the founder of a now-famous coin (PissCoins to be exact) to market his crypto-ETFs of debatable legitimacy, making him a prime suspect for murder... Sorry to interrupt your imagination but I feel like I shouldn't say more. I am terrible at writing synopses (a rather common ailment of writers I have found, to my relief) and I wouldn't have taken a whole novel to tell the same thing if I wasn't. I hope some of you would read the book yourself, and tell me that it sucks (or not. I'm an optimist.) and find out what happened to the poor, unfortunate Jong that I abused so thoroughly almost every chapter in all the three books of the series. To be honest, the book is basically a techno-crime thriller version of 'A Series of (really really) Unfortunate Events' for adults.\n\nAnway, thanks for having me in Steemit.
