The Queenslander was fifth fastest on Day 3, just behind Ducati Team’s Andrea Dovizioso – and Miller says there’s margin to improve.\n\n“The performance throughout the three days has been really good,” begins the Aussie. “I’ve really felt at home with the team and felt comfortable, not only with the lap time this morning but I think we have a small margin where we can improve – when we put a new tyre in I’m able to improve more and more, taking a few risks here and there but still feeling pretty much in control. It’s been a positive day for us here, we did the race simulation which went really well, I’m happy with my rhythm and my race pace, so I’m happy.”\n\nDid he say he was happy? He did, but that didn’t mean quite perfect, with a few things to work on. But that’s the name of the adaptation game, and Miller affirms its positive trend.\n\n“With two months off of the bike, you have muscles that start to hurt, and there are some small things that we need to work on,” he explains. “In general the pace was very fast, but also very consistent and the way the Ducati handles the soft tyre was really polite, I didn’t feel I burnt it up too much. I understood halfway through the simulation where I need to work on as I was a bit too hard on it at the beginning. The more I ride the bike, the more I understand it and get the feel for it.”\n\nFinally, Miller says yes, he has looked at other data, and although he’s adapting, he’s not adjusting everything all at once: “I wouldn’t say I’m riding to adjust my style to the Ducati, but just starting we have so many more fast guys on the bike – we’ve got Jorge, Dovi and Danilo who’s been going really well also. I’m just studying those guys, what they’re doing differently, what I’m doing differently and trying to blend the two styles.”\n\nNext up, it’s time for the paddock to head for Thailand and Buriram for their first taste of MotoGP™’s newest venue, where everyone will be adapting – and Miller gets another shot at a top five finish on the timesheets.",

After an early crash, the Majorcan came back out swinging and set the fastest ever lap of the Malaysian venue: a 1:58.830. As could be expected, Lorenzo was pretty positive after the day’s proceedings – and positive about the GP18.\n\n“The lap is a consequence of having a good bike, feeling well and being in shape,” says the Spaniard. “The most important thing is that the bike is working, it is giving me a good feeling and it’s improved a lot of areas compared to last year. As I said on the first day, the bike has improved and it’s more suited to my riding style and I can take profit of my strong points. Fast forward a day and the story is a little different, with both riders suffering a more difficult final day - on the timesheets at least. Rossi explained their troubles were largely with grip, but says the conclusion overall remains positive.\n\n“It was hard work today, but also good work,” says the rider from Tavullia. “First of all, we tried everything and we have pretty clear ideas, but today was the most difficult day. We suffered a little bit more because of a lack of grip and that made us lose a bit in positions, but compared to last year we've improved the pace, also on used tyres. We know it's hard work, we have to improve, but the test at the end was quite positive.”\n\nGrip has been a buzzword for the Iwata marque in 2017, and caused their key issues. And although Rossi was up in P8 after a final run, Viñales ended the day in P18. He’s well within the top ten on combined times by virtue of his Day 2 laptime, but the rider from Roses had an uphill struggle on Tuesday.\n\n“Honestly, we worked quite well,” begins Viñales, but that didn’t mean everything went perfectly: “Today it's been difficult. I don't know why we lost time, especially in the afternoon - in the morning it went quite well. Anyway, we worked hard, trying to improve, so now we have to check the data and see what we can improve on in Buriram, there we'll know more.”\n\nThat’s coming up soon enough within a couple of weeks – and Viñales, as well as reevaluating the outcome from Sepang, says they’ll also use that to further test the new aero-fairing.\n\n“I think the new fairing is really positive because I felt an improvement in acceleration, so let's see,” he explains. “I think the circuit in Buriram has many points of acceleration, so we can test it even better there.”\n\nAnother three days of testing begin on February 16th.",

It's going to be important for tracks like Austria and Le Mans, with a lot of wheelie. But for sure at some other tracks we will not want to use it - maybe like Australia, with a lot of wind - because maybe in some part of the corner it's worst. But as I said, acceleration is also really important.\"\n\nValentino Rossi: \"I tried the fairing with the aerodynamic and it's good. I like. It's better. Especially what you feel when you try this type of fairing, you feel more front contact. So when you have to ride the bike not straight, and you feel more contact on the front, it's more easy. Also less physical. So this is the way. And I don’t have any negative points.\"\n\n\nMarc Marquez: \"Of course the main target of the new fairing is the wheelie. Try to stop the wheelie, try to have more downforce. Of course then you lose a little bit of top speed. Braking stability becomes better, but then when you start to go in [to the corner] it looks harder the bike. On the fast corners also it looks a little bit more hard.\n\n\"I think with the new fairing we need to find a good bike balance because for one lap I can ride well, fast. But to be consistent I scared a bit that I will overheat the front tyre of something like this.\"\n\nCal Crutchlow: It was a lot different to what we were used to, all three of us I think, and our comments seemed pretty similar as well. Sure there are some positives and there's some not really negatives but we have to adjust the bike a lot to it and we didn't.\n\n\"[What Marc said about it] is exactly the same as me. I have to watch what I'm saying! Definitely the acceleration and braking was better, but I felt some - not strange feeling with it - but something different to what I was used to and then you're out of your comfort zone a little bit. But we will continue to work with it for sure at some point, I don’t know when, as we have a big list of stuff to do.\"\n\nDani Pedrosa: \"We have only this spec, but after the first feelings now we have some information so they can work more in that fairing to see if they can keep, or modify, depending on the requests.\"",

A long run through the hottest stretch of the afternoon – 13:30 to 15:00 – confirmed his impressions from day one that Yamaha has made big strides with its 2018 bike.\n\nThe 23-year old reported that those traction issues in low-grip conditions that plagued periods of his ’17 campaign were not apparent in the punishing afternoon sun. “I feel constant grip,” he said. “From lap one to twenty. That’s the positive thing.”\n\n\n\nWith his main objective seemingly ticked off, the Catalan took to the track soon after his dealings with the press. No sooner had team-mate Valentino Rossi bettered Dani Pedrosa’s quickest time from day one, than Viñales went even faster, his 1m 59.355s lap nudging the Italian into second by 0.035s.\n\nAnd his work for the week is by no means finished. Viñales, who has continued working with the same chassis spec from a private test here last November, expects to conduct one full race simulation on Tuesday, if not two.\n\n\n“At the moment in the plan is to find the best solution when it's hot conditions,” he said. “For sure tomorrow I'm going to do one race simulation and if I have enough power, two! To try the different tyres.\n\n“Honestly we've been working well, especially 1:30-3pm which is the important time to be fast and constant. Tomorrow we will try to improve the electronics. That is the place we need to adjust more. And then try different set-ups trying to be more competitive.”\n\nOn the chassis situation, he continued: “There are many. Also from last year. But I concentrate on this one. I feel good and as I said we have to improve the electronics because for me last year we had issues and this year I want to prepare really well during the pre-season.\n\n“At the moment the lap times are not so bad. Let's see when we want to make another step on the lap time. Looks the bike for one lap is really good, we can see with Valentino, so that's positive and makes me calm.\n\n“Also makes my job a little bit easier to know the bike is fast for one lap. I concentrate really well to make 20 laps in a good shape and constant, even pushing more at the end. Let's see tomorrow if I can do the race simulation well.”\n\nViñales’ response to a question on how his ’18 bike differs to what he rode last year was perhaps most revealing: “Everything,” he exclaimed. “Everything is different, I mean my riding style is not so different. I ride in the same way.\n\n“But just I feel that the chassis understands more the tyre. The way that the tyres slide. I feel constant grip all the time. From lap 1-20 and that's the positive things of these two days.”\n\nOn the continued work on the bike’s electronics, Viñales said, “Well I'm missing the first part of acceleration. I wanted to try to make it very, very smooth and then the delivery of the power came step by step.\n\n“Now we have smoother at the beginning but it comes very fast. We are trying to make a more linear and progressive bike. It's not bad for one lap but for 20 the tyre life goes down very quick. That's why I want to prepare really well at 2pm the electronics, just to improve.”\n\nAside from the engine, chassis and electronics, both Yamaha riders sampled the factory’s new aerodynamics package for the year ahead. Viñales found the bodywork - refined from what was debuted at Valencia - to be of great benefit in acceleration areas, and believes it could prove useful at tracks like Le Mans and Austria.\n\n“Well the new fairing improved on acceleration,” Viñales revealed. “The last sector I improved a lot. It's going to be important for tracks like Austria and Le Mans, with a lot of wheelie.\n\n“But for sure at some other tracks we will not want to use because maybe in some part of the corner it's worst. But as I said, acceleration is also really important.\n\n“I will try to use them all the time tomorrow, to try. I think there are some tracks where it will be really important but others maybe like Australia, with a lot of wind, maybe it would make a confusion like last year also.”",
