      "body": "How I found love in the Strangest Place\n\nTimid. Scared. Shy.\n\nThat's who I was and more.\n\nAs a child brought up by a single parent, low self-esteem was my companion.\n\nI hated myself for everything.\n\nI had (still do) a soft and calm voice.\n\nMy body and physique wasn't structured like that of other boys.\n\nI was taunted by friends and family for not being like \"other boys\"\n\n\"Why God no create you as woman\" was one question I struggled to answer every day of my miserable life.\n\nSo, I grew up always desiring to be like others.\n\nThere was nothing admirable about me (so I thought)\n\nThere was a time, I used the money my cousin gave me to buy stuff to buy a birthday gift for a friend.\n\nI also remember the time I bought a birthday gift for a friend who never showed up to receive it.\n\nDuring the birthday of my friends, I would buy them very expensive gifts.\n\nBut during my birthday, there was nobody to even wish me a happy birthday.\n\nThere was a time I even thought of killing myself when during my birthday, I didn't get a call or message from any of my friends.\n\nI was terribly depressed.\n\nI yearned for friendship and acceptance from others.\n\nWhile in school, I was the nice guy who would practically do anything for others but never thought of myself.\n\nEven when I questioned my sanity and wondered why I was not loved by others, my religious beliefs reminded me that I was supposed to LOVE others and lay down my life for them.\n\nThe first time I went into a relationship with a girl, we broke up after a month. Exactly 30 days.\n\nThis made me go deep down into low self esteem.\n\nI thought that it was my fault and that I wasn't good enough.\n\nI won't forget the day I gave a friend money to buy food while I trekked home.\n\nI did all these to get validation from people. I wanted be loved for goodness sake.\n\nIt took me a long long time to realize that I was in an abusive relationship with myself.\n\nThen one fateful day, I decided to fall madly in love with myself.\n\nAll my life, I've been reading the verse, \"love your neighbor\" but I didn't pay attention to the part that says, \"AS YOU LOVE YOURSELF\".\n\nThat was the root of all my problems.\n\nI've been busy loving others while neglecting myself.\n\nWho does that?\n\nThen I had to forgive myself for mistreating ME.\n\nI forgave myself for neglecting my unique abilities and strength.\n\nHow can I even forget that while in school I was one of the most intelligent kid?\n\nI came to accept myself for who I am and appreciated my voice, physique and everything that made me me.\n\nI embraced possibilities, positivity and opportunities that supported my growth.\n\nThe phrase by John Obidi, \"choose yourself\" didn't make so much sense to me until I realized that self-care is not being selfish.\n\nIt is showing up for yourself, forgiving yourself, embracing your uniqueness and falling madly in love with yourself DAILY.\n\nIt is looking at yourself in the mirror and saying,\n\n\"I am enough\"\n\n\"I am good enough\"\n\n\"I am brilliant enough\"\n\n\"I am man enough\"\n\n\"I am beautiful/handsome enough\"\n\n\"I am woman enough\"\n\nThis means that you don't go into a relationship or partnership with anyone to be complete.\n\nYou are not broken and needs to be fixed.\n\nAnyone who comes into your life is supposed to complement you and not complete you.\n\nBecause you are enough! You are unique and complete.\n\nMost of the people who I was trying to impress now tell me, \"Promise, you inspire me\".\n\n\"Promise I wish to be like you\"\n\n\"Promise, you are amazing\"\n\nLast year, I received a birthday message that got me in tears.\n\n\"You might not know, we really do admire you and all that you do. It's an honor to be your friend\"\n\nWhat happened?\n\nBecause, I found the greatest love of all inside of me.\n\nI became my hero. I became my own rescue.\n\nI came to realize that how you treat yourself is how others treat you.\n\nI invested in myself massively. I read books, attended webinars/seminars/workshops, I watched videos, I took courses.\n\nI built meaningful relationship with people who appreciate my worth and love me for who I am.\n\nThis did not happen in a day, week or year.       "body": "I have been in steemit since november 2017, i have watch and heard testimonies from friends far and near, how steemit had transform their lives. \n\nThen i asked rhetorically, how has steemit transformed their lives?\n\n\nThe answers i had during that sober moment wowed me. \n\nI realized that steemit had made them become a better communicators, \n\nSteemit had made them a better writers\n\nSteemit had put food on their tables and put monies in their pocket.\n\nNow that my eyes had opened and i began to see beyond my nostril and my comfort zone.\n\nNow that the cob webs cause by my ignorance had been cleared, i began to ask myself; will i still continue in my comfort zone?\n\nWill i still seat back folding my hands and believing God for a so called BETTER DAYS?\n\nWill i still seat back, telling myself i cant when all i need to start is within me?\n\nNow that i have come to my senses, i take on steemit.\n\nI look forward for a change of life not just in  monetary aspect but also in my communication and writing skills.\n\nSteemit is a community of great minds....
