In most all Bible translations and the concept of \"The Earth\" has been forced into the translation of Genesis 1:9.  It is quite a major transliteration of the Hebrew text, and I was taken aback when I first realized how this occurred and is accepted by the majority.  The verse in KJV is as follows:\n\n![image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmf7zB5JUL2GRLcULtdaS7Vfzf1g9qhHp4t21RxGd6ajoC/image.png)\n\nNote that the word 'land' is italicized, which of course means that it is not in the Hebrew text, but has been inferred by the context of the verse.  The problem of course is that the Hebrew word for 'Land', Eretz, is quite specific and was already used by in verse 1 of Genesis, \"In the Beginning, God created the Heavens, and the Land, HaEretz.\".  The translation of Gen. 1:9 is only problematic when forcing the term, \"earth\" into to the understanding of verses 1 & 10.\n\nThe correct rendering of Gen. 1:9 is, \"And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let 'The Dry' appear: and it was so.\"  The Hebrew is obviously referring to the ground, or the land, but the concept of 'The Dry' is important as in verse 10 God calls 'The Dry' by the name, 'Land'.  And we see again in verse 10 how the concept of \"earth\" is forced into the translation.  Again, note the italicized 'land' in verse 10.  This is because the Hebrew word is, 'HaYabashah', 'The Dry'. If translators can only use the one 'Eretz' of verse 10 as either 'Land' or 'earth' they choose to translate it as \"earth\" and insert 'Land' as inferred by 'The Dry'.\n\nAnd this is the first problem of most all Biblical translations in that \"earth\" is assigned to the word HaEretz, when clearly the Ancients understood it as 'The Land'.  \"Earth\" is a spinning globe which had no place in the mind of the Hebrews.  Don't get me wrong, \"earth\" can be understood as 'dirt' or 'soil', but the reality is that it is also understood as the round globe we all came to know so well in 1st grade.\n\nThere is no reason to infer the meaning of 'Land' from the word, 'HaYabashah' in verses 9 and 10 because clearly in verse 9 the 'Land' was not named yet, and in verse 10 it was named. We know that the ancients did not understand &quot;Earth&quot; as a spinning globe hurling through space, but more simply as the &#x27;Land&#x27;.  Words can carry  subtle meanings which blind us to certain understandings.  For instance, &quot;Earth&quot; can mean &#x27;Land&#x27; or &#x27;ground&#x27; or &#x27;dirt&#x27;, but it also carries with it the Heliocentric understanding of our galaxy.  The more literal and in my opinion better translation of Genesis 1:1 is:</p>\n<p>&quot;In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Land.&quot;</p>\n<p>Here are some reasons for understanding the Hebrew translation as &#x27;Land&#x27;, rather than &quot;Earth&quot;:</p>\n<p>The Hebrew word translated, &quot;The Earth&quot;, (HaEretz) is literally understood as, &#x27;The Land&#x27; in a majority of contexts.  Keep in mind that when Moses or an Elder of Israel wrote &#x27;HaEretz&#x27; they understood it as &#x27;The Land&#x27;, so even if the majority of translations use the word, &quot;Earth&quot;, it should be understood as, &#x27;The Land&#x27;, and not as the spinning globe toppling through the universe.  One of the most striking examples is The Land of Israel understood as, &#x27;The Land&#x27;, as evidenced by the popular news outlet, &#x27;HaEretz&#x27;.</p>\n<p>Genesis Chapter 1 is an account of &#x27;Understanding&#x27;. What does this mean? Understanding is one of the primary attributes in the Book of Proverbs.  If you are familiar with this, then you know that Wisdom, Understanding, and Knowledge are together mentioned as integral in the Creation of all things.</p>\n<p>Proverbs 3:19,20\r</p>\n<p>&quot;The LORD founded the <em>earth</em>(Land) by wisdom,\r</p>\n<p>He established the heavens by understanding.\r</p>\n<p>By His knowledge the ocean depths were burst open,\r</p>\n<p>And the clouds drip with dew.&quot;</p>\n<p>The nature of &#x27;Understanding&#x27; is to divide a thing into parts in order to gain more information. This is the process of understanding something.  Creation itself is wound up in the process of understanding.  At first the earth (Land) was formless and void with water over the surface of the deep.  This is not to be understood as a globe covered in water, but in my opinion, as all of reality with the Spirit of God brooding over the waters.</p>\n<p>First the Light is revealed but it is not separated from the darkness, so God separated the Light from the darkness.  This was the first act of division with regard to the Understanding of God.</p>\n<p>Next God separated the Waters.  God made the Firmament to divide the Waters above from the Waters below.  This was the second act of division which regard to the Understanding of God.</p>\n<p>Finally we get to the division of the the Seas and &quot;The Dry&quot;.  This is the separation of the Waters from the Land.  This shows us that &quot;The Dry&quot; (HaYaBaShah) was not separated from the Waters in the beginning, for it is at this point that God allowed &quot;The Dry&quot; to appear.  This is important to understand for the majority of translations of Gen. 1:10 are incorrect in my opinion.  Most translate Gen. 1:10 as follows:</p>\n<p>\r<br/>God called the dry land <em>earth</em>,...</p>\n<p>\r<br/>The word, &quot;earth&quot; is inserted into the translation as intimated by &quot;The Dry&quot;, for the actual Hebrew is &quot;HaYaBaShah Eretz&quot;.  Literally this would be translated, &quot;The Dry Land&quot;.   If you look at most translations they correctly italicize the word &quot;<em>earth</em>&quot; as this is not in the Hebrew text. Don’t believe me, check the Hebrew of Genesis 1:21.  הַתַּנִּינִם (HaTaniNim) often translated as “The whales” which is the very same word used in Exodus 7:9.  This is when Aaron was directed to cast down his staff so that it would become a לְתַנִּין (LeTanin), a serpent.</p>\n<p>So why are there so many translations of Genesis 1:21 which do not translate this word as serpents? If fact, I have yet to find a single translation which translates this as literally, “The great serpents”. The following is a sample of translations of Genesis 1:21:</p>\n<li>KJ21  And God created great whales</li>\n<li>ASV   And God created the great sea-monsters</li>\n<li>AMP   God created the great sea monsters</li>\n<li>AMPC  God created the great sea monsters</li>\n<li>BRG   And God created great whales</li>\n<li>CSB   So God created the large sea-creatures</li>\n<li>CEB  God created the great sea animals</li>\n<li>CJB  God created the great sea creatures </li>\n<li>CEV   So God made the giant sea monsters</li>\n<li>DARBY   And God created the great sea monsters</li>\n<li>DRA  And God created the great whales</li>\n<li>ERV   So God created the large sea animals</li>\n<li>EHV  God created the large sea creatures</li>\n<li>ESV  So God created the great sea creatures</li>\n<li>ESVUK   So God created the great sea creatures</li>\n<li>EXB  So God created [1:1] the large sea ·animals [or monsters]</li>\n<li>GNV   Then God created the great whales</li>\n<li>GW   So God created the large sea creatures</li>\n<li>GNT   So God created the great sea monsters</li>\n<li>HCSB   So God created the large sea-creatures</li>\n<li>ICB   So God created the large sea animals</li>\n<li>ISV   So God created every kind of magnificent marine creature</li>\n<li>JUB    And God created the great dragons</li>\n<li>KJV   And God created great whales </li>\n<li>AKJV   And God created great whales</li>\n<li>LEB   So God created the great sea creatures</li>\n<li>TLB   So God created great sea animals</li>\n<li>MSG   God created the huge whales</li>\n<p></p>\n<p>This is not every translation but enough to show the obscurity of the translation. The one exception I found was in the Jubilee Bible 2000 translation, “and God created the dragons”.  Of course this is just one translation example among others that I ponder in the Bible.</p>\n<p>The translation of, “Great Sea Serpents” rings true to me. What do you think? What other truths would this understanding lead us into?
