      "body": "<div class=\"MarkdownViewer Markdown\"><div><p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/http://gravityprotocol.org/network/gravity-crypto.jpg\"></p>\n<p><strong>Let us determine what money actually is, first. Money is a kind of social agreement where we use a certain object as payment.</strong> For the duration of its use, humanity has used many different kinds of assets as payment, – from animal skins to debentures. Currencies were constantly competing and evolving while the less effective ones would disappear or stay in the background of those in demand. Thus an economic model reflects the condition of the society in which it is used. But, as we know, these models are not set once and for all.</p>\n<p>The liquidity of any currency is determined by the level of trust it gains from a society. Unfortunately, problems in our global economy, as well as an unstable political climate, have led to a drop in many people’s confidence in our current economic models. Nowadays, properties of payment processes such as security, anonymity, and confidentiality have become more valuable than ever.</p>\n<p>From this point of view, none of modern fiat currencies are reliable. As seen in the progression of history when an existing model becomes inefficient, a new one always appears. As we know, the technology of the distributed ledger has now been invented, offering much more efficient solutions. This invention initiated the migration of values into blockchain assets, in which technologies give birth to the principles of a new digital economy.</p>\n<p>It is safe to say that at this point in our history, crypto-currencies have taken a firm position in our world. This can easily be seen by their <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"This link will take you away from steemit.com\">capitalization</a>. As of the beginning of May 2018, the overall crypto-currency market capitalization is $436.5 billion, of which Bitcoin represents $156.5 billion. The Bitcoin ecosystem is currently ranked 5th as the world’s largest economies. <strong>Unfortunately, there is still no crypto-currency that has passed a qualitative milestone large enough to be considered a full-fledged payment instrument.</strong></p>\n<p>To explain this, let us imagine that we are buying a cup of coffee. We can pay in dollars or Bitcoins. The next day we can also buy a cup of coffee spending same amount of dollars, but the amount we might pay in Bitcoin is much more difficult to estimate or predict. One of the key points of a full-fledged currency is that its exchange rates have predictability and/or stability. This is something Bitcoin cannot offer at the moment so we still measure it in a dollar equivalent. This turns Bitcoin into a certain “digital gold”, a financial instrument, but not a full-fledged money. Bitcoin could be used to acquire the property, yet it can’t be used to measure its real-world value.</p>\n<p>As a result, crypto-currencies are not able to fulfill one of the key requirements of money, which is to be a measure of the value of goods, because using money as we've defined, market participants determine the prices of goods. It is clear that the disadvantages of current solutions inhibit the spread and adoption of blockchain technologies. Looking more closely at these disadvantages allows us to learn from the current financial system.</p>\n<p><strong>Let us take emission mechanisms as an example.</strong> The fiat money emission is controlled by the central bank of a country. In the case of economic growth and a national currency deficit, the country will accelerate emission so that the exchange rate of its currency does not increase excessively with respect  to other currencies. This provides the economy with necessary liquidity. What is important to note is that emission speeds up the economy. This shows us that the emission of fiat currencies is dynamic and is used with regard to the needs of the economy, ensuring its governability.</p>\n<p>The current situation in the crypto-currency market is the opposite. It is easy to see that all of the existing and developing blockchain protocols offer a fixed or algorithmically designated emission that is not tied in any way to the real growth of the network or its demands in liquidity. <strong>The emission algorithms Satoshi Nakamoto put into the Bitcoin network as well as Vitalik Buterin for Ethereum or Dan Larimer in the case of EOS, are only abstract values which have no correlation to real network growth.</strong></p>\n<p>Speaking of fiat emissions, we must also notice that this is all done “manually” by the decision of a country's leadership, as well as the chairmen of central banks, and that this is based on real economic data only indirectly. Furthermore, the principles of distribution are also far from perfect. The deep imperfection of further money distribution as well as unpredictability and a lack of transparency of emission is one of the biggest reasons why the public’s confidence in the current financial system drops.</p>\n<p>But now, this problems of the distribution is now solved in a brilliant way.  Blockchain technologies allow for the algorithmic distribution of emission, with no intermediaries, directly into the accounts of market participants. But further distribution there also has its problems. Because distribution is made via the miners or stack-holders (in different consensus algorithms) who  are rarely active participants in the network in the context of real transactions. These participants mostly adhere to an asset retention strategy with the aim of selling at a higher price later. Miners are also adding additional pressure to rates as they constantly need to pay the often high electricity bills associated with mining,and frequently  upgrade their hardware.</p>\n<p><strong>Holders do not benefit from using tokens as a payment instrument, and even less so for practical solutions. As a result, they are focused on the speculative aspect of the currency. If the share of real use was more than a speculative component, the rate of the token would be much more stable.</strong></p>\n<p>Let's take Bitcoin as an example and find the correlation between network growth and coin rate. As MIT researchers have shown in the article <a href=\"https://hackernoon.com/are-bitcoin-bubbles-predictable-6aa5b830f41a\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"This link will take you away from steemit.com\">\"Are Bitcoin Bubbles Predictable? Сombining a Generalized Metcalfe’s Law and the LPPLS Model\"</a>, we can see that stock bubbles occur when the market values of the coin begin to outpace the network growth. The recession of the crypto-currency market in February-March 2018 was a direct illustration of this. Both fast growth and the inevitable recession hinder the network development.</p>\n<p>Accordingly, on a blockchain, there is no relationship between the emission and the growth of the network on the economic level. This makes tokens extremely impractical to use in everyday life as a payment method and it’s also an obstacle to wide-range adoption and usage.</p>\n<p><strong>Fortunately, we still learn from working solutions that we do have and create better technologies to replace existing non-effective ones.</strong></p>\n<p>To solve the problem, Gravity Protocol uses a special algorithm of adaptive emission to calculate the rate of emission on the basis of Gravity Network Index that grows according to the growth of the network. After the peak values of the Gravity Network Index are reached, the protocol does not release tokens until the next peak is reached. <strong>Tokens are distributed among all users according to their personal Gravity Index, in proportion to their contribution to the network (Stake + Activity).</strong></p>\n<p>Token owners will receive the reward not in the form of the deflationary growth of the token rate, but instead, in the form of the increasing number of tokens on their account due to the adaptive emission. This will, in turn, motivate participants to create decentralized applications and businesses. For example, in the sphere of e-commerce, services which accept payment in the form of Gravity tokens, will receive an additional economic stimulus as a benefit of adaptive emission.</p>\n<p>This means tokens are only issued to cover the growing needs of the network. The Gravity Index solution protects against a speculative overvaluation of the token at the protocol level and accelerates economic processes and growth of the network with the intention to reduce the token rate fluctuations.</p>\n<p>When the network gathers its critical mass and stabilizes, this will lead to the reduction in the base token rate volatility similar to that of fiat currencies. This will also make it a full-fledged payment instrument that would actually be a viable solution to the widespread crypto payment acceptance problem.</p>\n<p><strong>Of course, adaptive emission itself does not guarantee the stability of a token, but it does add a mathematical model to the algorithm to bring real market aspects into the coin’s rate.</strong></p>\n<p>We combine all of the best aspects from the real- and crypto-economy, and we get both monetary stock, which grows synchronously with the economy, as well as an efficient distribution system without intermediaries. I am at Steemit around ten months and there is much more users then in August 2017. when I have joined. Many of new users are not active but thanks to <a href=\"/@penguinpablo\">@penguinpablo</a> and his stats, we can see that there is much more daily active users now than before:<br>\n<img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmWrB79m9MFmgcDRhnnxNgo5aRLXpqbahVmEiNpTcuhEWK/DQmWrB79m9MFmgcDRhnnxNgo5aRLXpqbahVmEiNpTcuhEWK.png\" alt=\"DQmWrB79m9MFmgcDRhnnxNgo5aRLXpqbahVmEiNpTcuhEWK.png\"></p>\n<p>I expect this trend to continue at even faster rate.</p>\n<p>After ten months on Steemit there are some things that I would like to be different.</p>\n<p>First thing  I would like to be different is that Steemet has DIRECT MESSAGES.</p>\n<p>I have met many interesting people and now if I want some communication with them that I don't want to be public, I have to use Discord or some other similar social network.<br>\nI am sure that direct messaging would improve Steemit friendship circle.</p>\n<p>Second thing is better USER INTERFACE.</p>\n<p>Many users prefer busy.org instead of steemit.com  because of better user interface.<br>\nI would like to have some handy improvements like how much voting power I have, who upvoted me or flaged me. Mostly things that you have now at steemworld.org</p>\n<p>Third thing is USER SEARCH.</p>\n<p>I would like that we have possibility to search for users like on many other social networks. To write username and to get user suggestions. This simple thing would make user search much easier.</p>\n<p>Forth thing that I would like to have is USER ALERTS.</p>\n<p>Many users following lot of people and because of that it would be great for me if I could have possibility to set alert when my favorite users post something. I have some friends here like <a href=\"/@sames\">@sames</a> and <a href=\"/@fullcoverbetting\">@fullcoverbetting</a> and I would like to have alert whenever they post or comment something. This feature is very important and like in your phonebook you have your contacts and your favorite contact, at Steemit I have users that I follow but some of them I like more and they are my favorites.</p>\n<p>Fifth thing is EASIER START FOR NEW USERS.</p>\n<p>New user start is not easy if you don't have money to invest at the beginning and there has to be solution to for that. First week of using new social network is crucial and if somebody has bad first impression, he will leave and never come back.<br>\nMy idea is that there should be developed some upvote bot for promoting posts from new users for free, for example first two months. That period would be enough for  new users to gain followers if they write interesting posts and integration to Steemit would be much easier. I think this is crucial for Steemit growth.</p>\n<p>These are my impressions after ten  months of using Steemit and of course that there is much more things that could be different and better but these are things that it would make using Steemit much easier.</p>\n<p>I would like to hear what you don't like on Steemit and what things would you like to be different.</p>\n<p>Regards,</p>\n</div></div>",

Money is a kind of social agreement where we use a certain object as payment.</strong> For the duration of its use, humanity has used many different kinds of assets as payment, – from animal skins to debentures. Currencies were constantly competing and evolving while the less effective ones would disappear or stay in the background of those in demand. Thus an economic model reflects the condition of the society in which it is used. But, as we know, these models are not set once and for all.</p>\n<p>The liquidity of any currency is determined by the level of trust it gains from a society. Unfortunately, problems in our global economy, as well as an unstable political climate, have led to a drop in many people’s confidence in our current economic models. Nowadays, properties of payment processes such as security, anonymity, and confidentiality have become more valuable than ever.</p>\n<p>From this point of view, none of modern fiat currencies are reliable. As seen in the progression of history when an existing model becomes inefficient, a new one always appears. As we know, the technology of the distributed ledger has now been invented, offering much more efficient solutions. This invention initiated the migration of values into blockchain assets, in which technologies give birth to the principles of a new digital economy.</p>\n<p>It is safe to say that at this point in our history, crypto-currencies have taken a firm position in our world. This can easily be seen by their <a href=\"https://coinmarketcap.com/\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"This link will take you away from steemit.com\">capitalization</a>. As of the beginning of May 2018, the overall crypto-currency market capitalization is $436.5 billion, of which Bitcoin represents $156.5 billion. The Bitcoin ecosystem is currently ranked 5th as the world’s largest economies. <strong>Unfortunately, there is still no crypto-currency that has passed a qualitative milestone large enough to be considered a full-fledged payment instrument.</strong></p>\n<p>To explain this, let us imagine that we are buying a cup of coffee. We can pay in dollars or Bitcoins. The next day we can also buy a cup of coffee spending same amount of dollars, but the amount we might pay in Bitcoin is much more difficult to estimate or predict. One of the key points of a full-fledged currency is that its exchange rates have predictability and/or stability. This is something Bitcoin cannot offer at the moment so we still measure it in a dollar equivalent. This turns Bitcoin into a certain “digital gold”, a financial instrument, but not a full-fledged money. Bitcoin could be used to acquire the property, yet it can’t be used to measure its real-world value.</p>\n<p>As a result, crypto-currencies are not able to fulfill one of the key requirements of money, which is to be a measure of the value of goods, because using money as we've defined, market participants determine the prices of goods. It is clear that the disadvantages of current solutions inhibit the spread and adoption of blockchain technologies. Looking more closely at these disadvantages allows us to learn from the current financial system.</p>\n<p><strong>Let us take emission mechanisms as an example.</strong> The fiat money emission is controlled by the central bank of a country. In the case of economic growth and a national currency deficit, the country will accelerate emission so that the exchange rate of its currency does not increase excessively with respect  to other currencies. This provides the economy with necessary liquidity. What is important to note is that emission speeds up the economy. This shows us that the emission of fiat currencies is dynamic and is used with regard to the needs of the economy, ensuring its governability.</p>\n<p>The current situation in the crypto-currency market is the opposite. It is easy to see that all of the existing and developing blockchain protocols offer a fixed or algorithmically designated emission that is not tied in any way to the real growth of the network or its demands in liquidity. <strong>The emission algorithms Satoshi Nakamoto put into the Bitcoin network as well as Vitalik Buterin for Ethereum or Dan Larimer in the case of EOS, are only abstract values which have no correlation to real network growth.</strong></p>\n<p>Speaking of fiat emissions, we must also notice that this is all done “manually” by the decision of a country's leadership, as well as the chairmen of central banks, and that this is based on real economic data only indirectly. Furthermore, the principles of distribution are also far from perfect. The deep imperfection of further money distribution as well as unpredictability and a lack of transparency of emission is one of the biggest reasons why the public’s confidence in the current financial system drops.</p>\n<p>But now, this problems of the distribution is now solved in a brilliant way.  Blockchain technologies allow for the algorithmic distribution of emission, with no intermediaries, directly into the accounts of market participants. But further distribution there also has its problems. Because distribution is made via the miners or stack-holders (in different consensus algorithms) who  are rarely active participants in the network in the context of real transactions. These participants mostly adhere to an asset retention strategy with the aim of selling at a higher price later. Miners are also adding additional pressure to rates as they constantly need to pay the often high electricity bills associated with mining,and frequently  upgrade their hardware.</p>\n<p><strong>Holders do not benefit from using tokens as a payment instrument, and even less so for practical solutions. As a result, they are focused on the speculative aspect of the currency. If the share of real use was more than a speculative component, the rate of the token would be much more stable.</strong></p>\n<p>Let's take Bitcoin as an example and find the correlation between network growth and coin rate. As MIT researchers have shown in the article <a href=\"https://hackernoon.com/are-bitcoin-bubbles-predictable-6aa5b830f41a\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"This link will take you away from steemit.com\">\"Are Bitcoin Bubbles Predictable? Сombining a Generalized Metcalfe’s Law and the LPPLS Model\"</a>, we can see that stock bubbles occur when the market values of the coin begin to outpace the network growth. The recession of the crypto-currency market in February-March 2018 was a direct illustration of this. Both fast growth and the inevitable recession hinder the network development.</p>\n<p>Accordingly, on a blockchain, there is no relationship between the emission and the growth of the network on the economic level. This makes tokens extremely impractical to use in everyday life as a payment method and it’s also an obstacle to wide-range adoption and usage.</p>\n<p><strong>Fortunately, we still learn from working solutions that we do have and create better technologies to replace existing non-effective ones.</strong></p>\n<p>To solve the problem, Gravity Protocol uses a special algorithm of adaptive emission to calculate the rate of emission on the basis of Gravity Network Index that grows according to the growth of the network. After the peak values of the Gravity Network Index are reached, the protocol does not release tokens until the next peak is reached. <strong>Tokens are distributed among all users according to their personal Gravity Index, in proportion to their contribution to the network (Stake + Activity).</strong></p>\n<p>Token owners will receive the reward not in the form of the deflationary growth of the token rate, but instead, in the form of the increasing number of tokens on their account due to the adaptive emission. This will, in turn, motivate participants to create decentralized applications and businesses. For example, in the sphere of e-commerce, services which accept payment in the form of Gravity tokens, will receive an additional economic stimulus as a benefit of adaptive emission.</p>\n<p>This means tokens are only issued to cover the growing needs of the network. The Gravity Index solution protects against a speculative overvaluation of the token at the protocol level and accelerates economic processes and growth of the network with the intention to reduce the token rate fluctuations.</p>\n<p>When the network gathers its critical mass and stabilizes, this will lead to the reduction in the base token rate volatility similar to that of fiat currencies. This will also make it a full-fledged payment instrument that would actually be a viable solution to the widespread crypto payment acceptance problem.</p>\n<p><strong>Of course, adaptive emission itself does not guarantee the stability of a token, but it does add a mathematical model to the algorithm to bring real market aspects into the coin’s rate.</strong></p>\n<p>We combine all of the best aspects from the real- and crypto-economy, and we get both monetary stock, which grows synchronously with the economy, as well as an efficient distribution system without intermediaries. We don't use lottery-based system nor we randomly choose any top 10 or top 3. We're all about equal distributions and we're here to eliminate the inequality.</p>\n<p>Using our profit sharing program, you'll earn a minimum of 37.5% rewards. That's 12.5% more than STEEM official curation system. And wait! that's only a minimum. It is very likely that our post will generate profit from others' votes as well and that's why we say that the potential of profit is unlimited. STEEM official system rewards 25% to curator and 75% to author (37.5% SP and 37.5% SBD). It begins in late March and with 162 games for each team to play, there’s no real reason to worry about how your team is doing for that first 4-5 weeks of the season. A slow start can be erased by a hot streak. By October, it will all even out.</p>\n<p>One could even wait until June 1 to view the team standings for the first time, but that gets too close to the halfway point. A really bad team can be out of the playoff race by then. I like to look at the standings around late April or early May. There is still time for the hot starts to cool off and the disappointments to redeem themselves, yet more than a month of baseball gives us something to chew on and analyze.</p>\n<p>Analysis? “Yuck.” Don’t worry; I’m not one of those sabermetrics people with a PhD from MIT who can forecast exactly how everything can play out on a computer without those games ever being played. I love good statistics, which tell many a useful tale. But to me, if you don’t play the games, no amount of stats can forecast the direction of a season.</p>\n<p>When they actually play the games, anything can happen. For every prediction, there’s a team and an individual player overcoming them, athletes playing beyond their means, and teams becoming more than a sum of their parts. There’s clutch hitting, there are pitchers who come out of nowhere to become dominant relievers, and there are injuries that throw variables into those statistical forecasts. Some athletes and teams undershoot or blow right through their projections.</p>\n<p>On any given day, any team can win. In any given year, there are a dozen teams that will never come out on top because they don’t have enough talent on their rosters (at best, those will finish in third or fourth place in a division of five teams). But all of the others have a chance to be champions.</p>\n<p>By this point, about 25 games are in the books, which is around 15% of the season. It’s time to take a look at how the teams have been doing so far. I’ll go through them by division and focus on the biggest (happy) surprises and (not so happy) disappointments.</p>\n<p>Most other sites start with the Yankees. Not here. We commence with the senior circuit, the league in which pitchers hit for themselves.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmSVKG184c8PSqjGQyGpfoCEYsoi5e4aSSpExtYHZkiZh8/NLeast.png\" alt=\"NLeast.png\"></p>\n<h2>National League (NL) East</h2>\n<p>Let’s begin by noting that the top two teams (until the Pittsburgh Pirates recent winning streak) were the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. I don't see the Pirates keeping this up for long. The Miami Marlins, to no one’s surprise, occupy the cellar. The Atlanta Braves are a little over .500; it’s a young team that has future potential but lacks key pieces to compete now. Where the Phillies are over-performing, the division’s fifth team, the Washington Nationals, is underperforming so far.</p>\n<p><em>Happy surprises:</em> For the first few weeks of the season, the Mets were the media darlings for their hot start. We knew their pitching was potentially elite and could keep them in the playoff hunt throughout the season. Much depends on this team keeping more than half its roster off the disabled list, which seemed to be where many of its players landed last year. Experts liked their recent additions, but it should be noted that Jay Bruce, Todd Frazier, and Adrian Gonzalez are not exactly spring chickens. Gonzalez does not plug the hole at first base and may not survive the summer with this team unless he can tap the fountain of youth for a few more months. Michael Conforto is a key player; we may find out this year if he is merely good or a potential star. So I will say that I’ve been a bit surprised at how good the Mets have been, but (unlike some pundits), I question whether they will still be riding high in October.</p>\n<p>The Phillies are very good. And that is a surprise to some, including me. Most experts have looked at their young prospects and seen a bright future for this team, but the surprise is for the Phils team to play like a contender so early. It seemed like they were a couple of years away. The team itself evidently believed in itself, choosing to hit the free agent market to bring in top additions, Carlos Santana and Jake Arrieta. While Arrieta’s value dropped into reasonable territory by the end of a lackluster offseason on the hot stove, the Phillies’ personal people should be congratulated for spotting the potential of this team and doing what it needed to do to add veteran leadership with that kind of talent. Can the Phillies keep up their winning ways? Manager Gabe Kapler will do his best to screw it up, but they may be better than we thought.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/DQmXsLV3MVGGStrrKYdr1oZRY88mgETE7Ts1MVqRTvoPfPJ/Kapler.jpg\" alt=\"Kapler.jpg\"><br>\n<em>Phillies manager Gabe Kapler. Source: Philadelphia Magazine.</em></p>\n<p><em>Disappointment:</em> Washington Nationals. For the last several years, this team has often been picked as a World Series favorite. It hasn’t happened, perhaps because this team never seems to quite have ‘it’; the Nats are never more than a sum of their squabbling parts. The most important part, Bryce Harper, will probably leave once his contract is up, so the Nationals’ window to win is closing. And with their talent, I would expect them to turn things around this year by the All Star break or well before. This is the year they go “all in,” so it’s quite likely that if they are close at the halfway point, they will make one or more big trades not only to stay in it, but to get some elusive playoff wins.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmeWwp62fkLEh48Y8PbnPz39Bc3YgxqmebQawJPNg5F7Nu/NLcentral.png\" alt=\"NLcentral.png\"></p>\n<h2>NL Central</h2>\n<p>It’s no surprise that the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals are at the top of this division. Both were picked to do very well this year, and so far, are delivering. Similarly, it’s no surprise that the Cincinnati Reds are the doormat; they already fired their manager and are making opposing pitchers look like Cy Young. The Pittsburgh Pirates are somewhere in the middle of the pack, which is perhaps a bit better than their projections by the end of the season. And it’s not on the happy side of the ledger.</p>\n<p>*Disappointment: You knew it was coming. The Chicago Cubs got off to a slow start, though they’re already showing signs of improvement. Yu Darvish followed up his World Series woes with a tough start to his season, his first in Chitown, and made people wonder what happened to Arrieta. One would expect Darvish to get back on track soon to the automatic ace he was before. Javier Baez is not just good; he’s quickly becoming a franchise player. Kyle Schwarber keeps hitting bombs. Even with Jason Heyward’s dead weight, this team has so many good players, so much young talent, and so much depth. They can score so many runs that their pitching does not need to be elite. Prediction: early disappointments will soon be a forgotten memory as the team regains its form.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmVJUvZeq3seWWoR3oemxvzaCRzC23Lbcjf1ATbTdMqpUa/NLwest.png\" alt=\"NLwest.png\"></p>\n<h2>NL West</h2>\n<p>San Diego is as bad as advertised. So far, the Arizona Diamondbacks have been better than most expected. The Colorado Rockies invested in bullpen depth during the offseason and it remains to be seen whether that is enough to help them materially; so far, they are looking good. The other teams in this division are puttering along. The Los Angeles Dodgers should be doing a little better (which they probably will soon enough...where's Justin Turner?) and the San Francisco Giants are holding up fairly well, considering the injury woes of their top three starting pitchers, and now face some setbacks to hot bats Joe Panik and Mac Williamson (by the way, Pablo Sandoval can pitch). Bear in mind that the early schedule this season has been very imbalanced in terms of the opponents each team has faced, and that's been quite impactful in this division.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/DQmQPFbN5icrepQGB6a9DgLGJXyxJu26RQT6VTaB7czceou/Dyson.jpg\" alt=\"Dyson.jpg\"><br>\n<em>Jarrod Dyson was a heck of a pickup for Arizona. Source: Arizona Diamondbacks.</em></p>\n<p><em>Happy surprises:</em> Arizona was picked by most experts to do well. Few expected it to dominate. Paul Goldschmidt is as good a slugger as there is in the game. A.J. Pollock is the real thing. Jarrod Dyson looks like the perfect ‘missing piece’ addition to this roster so far, but when I look around the diamond, I’m still not quite convinced this team won’t regress to the mean (I don’t know what that means, but it makes me sound smart). Zack Greinke seems to have lost something and may never return to being the elite pitcher he was a couple of seasons ago. They may not need him to be great, but it remains to be seen how far this rotation and bullpen can take the D-Backs. If you can say “Brad Boxberger” ten times without laughing, then you may be on to something.</p>\n<p>And now on to the American League…</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmS7Ss5QDydJqyQ4bVVAmcdY4FJsHuGKXfWnMcv2jn443u/ALeast.png\" alt=\"ALeast.png\"></p>\n<h2>American League (AL) East</h2>\n<p>Move along. Nothing to see here, unless you like the epic perennial battle of this division’s two titans, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox. There’s nothing to see unless you like watching all the home runs these Yanks will hit with several of the game’s top sluggers (including probably the game’s two most hyped sluggers in Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge…don’t sleep on Gary Sanchez, either). There’s nothing to see unless you like to watch J.D. Martinez bringing the fireworks in Fenway and Mookie Betts developing into a star (one of several very promising young hitters in Boston). Meanwhile, in other news, the Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, and Tampa Bay Rays also play in this division.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/DQmd8nTrsAU11MJJHTSHyLRBVTzf7AFHUL8aGRYBBSHbTp6/BettsCCArturo.jpg\" alt=\"BettsCCArturo.jpg\"><br>\n<em>Mookie Betts. Even 10 days ago, one could have said that Boston’s hot start was a bit more than expected, but the Yankees are catching up. Stat projectors have forecasted these two teams to finish within a game or two of each other in the final standings and few people doubt that both will be there when Miss Congeniality picks up a wild card berth to put two of America’s favorite teams in the playoffs.</p>\n<p><em>Disappointments:</em> The other three teams. Toronto is never quite good enough and lost some pieces in the offseason it did not adequately replace. Tulo can't stay healthy. These teams all had their chances during a couple of down years while the big boppers were reloading. That window has passed now, so the ‘others’ are back to being punching bags and competing for a chance at a Wild Card berth. Do the Orioles ever develop their prospects? The O's have proven nothing in the last couple of decades except that they have one of the worst owners and some of the most questionable player development people in professional sports, while the Rays continue to field a minor league team.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmVmPBmsMBAmPwhfkxHriKPnKZMmkb5LESFdAQrWLdWtpF/ALcentral.png\" alt=\"ALcentral.png\"></p>\n<h2>American League (AL) Central</h2>\n<p>So far, only one team in this division has a winning record and it’s the Cleveland Indians. Jobu must be getting his rum. We knew Cleveland would be good, as they went deep into the playoffs last year. I thought they might miss Carlos Santana, but not so far. Oye como va. The Minnesota Twins have underperformed and the Kansas City Royals could still be a late blooming surprise after unexpectedly being able to sign back some of their free agents. The other teams aren’t very good, and the White Sox are finally rebuilding, so I don’t count their struggles as too surprising.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/DQmbQG93KfhjoMRWxcC7HmotYKrBiWK5z9bWzqjP6j4ePz5/Jobu.jpg\" alt=\"Jobu.jpg\"><br>\n<em>Jobu. Aside from a couple of aging stars, they don’t have the talent to keep this up, do they?</p>\n<p><em>Disappointments:</em> The Twinkies are not doing well so far. When I look at the roster, I don’t see a great team, but the Minnesota ownership evidently thought differently because it made noises about paying top free agents during the offseason. In the end, their only major addition was Jake Odorizzi, who came via trade, as even a buyer’s market didn’t enable them to land a Darvish or Arietta. To be fair, they’ve had some pitching injuries so far, but this team still does not look ready to contend. They could surprise by the end; it’s happened with the Twins before.</p>\n<p><img src=\"https://steemitimages.com/0x0/https://steemitimages.com/DQmamPn84anNStbQsTN1KCP25rDr1ZDoKYZVPAQEeFV3Cpx/ALwest.png\" alt=\"ALwest.png\"></p>\n<h2>American League (AL) West</h2>\n<p>This is one of the most interesting divisions in baseball this year. The Anaheim Angels (sorry, guys, it’s faster to write the name that way) may be the top team here so far. They are very good and could come away with a wild card slot, if not the division crown. And then there’s those Houston Astros, the World Champion Houston Astros. Take one of the most deeply talented teams in the majors and add a full season of Justin Verlander – yikes. The next question is whether any of the others have the power to put together a run against the Astros or Angels. The next best candidate may be the Oakland Athletics, flush with young players named Matt, which has one of the best teams I’ve seen there in a long time. The Texas Rangers may need a rebuild if they can’t keep it close, while Seattle usually ends up somewhere in the middle, but (like Oakland) could be a few games better than people think.</p>\n<p><em>Happy surprises:</em> The Angels are looking great. It was a good team last year and it’s gotten better. I will eat crow and admit that so far, Shohei Ohtani has been every bit the two-way player we heard about from Japan. The dude can pitch and until now, he also can hit major league pitching (which I publicly questioned at the beginning of the season). I think it’s great and I hope he can keep it up through the second and third times he faces some of these teams; once there is a detailed scouting report on a new player, teams sometimes find a way to get him out. Ohtani will soon reach that point where they’ve adjusted to him, so he needs to adjust to their adjustments. I hope he can do so. This team’s window to win included some deep runs and those two heartbreaking World Series losses a few years ago. They added some pieces thereafter, but have subtracted more recently. It’s hard to know whether ownership has embraced a full rebuild or believes it can retool. They probably need the rebuild at this point. Just look at that other city in Texas that tanked for four years and drafted well before turning it all into a championship last year and a contender for many more.       "body": "I got into an argument with someone the other day about the whole @haejin issue and came up with a brilliant idea to solve all of Steemit's problems simultaneously.\nThe problems\nMinnows don't make any money from their posts\nMinnows get no exposure for their posts\nThere is no incentive for high SP accounts not to rape the reward pool\nSteemit is flooded with unedited, low quality content\nNew users leave quickly once they realize that paid upvotes are the only way to reliably make money and get exposure\nThese are all problems that everyone has acknowledged.\n\nUntil now, nobody has come up with any intelligent solutions. I've taken a look at the situation and figured out how to fix all of these issues at once.\n\nThe solution(s)\nA new account is created whose purpose is specifically to pay minnows in SBD for contributing content\nAgreements are reached with high SP accounts to upvote every single post on the account (similar to the @haejin - @ranchorelaxo arrangement)\nRewards are split between the writer, the whale and the posting account\nSounds simple enough, doesn't it?\n\nIt should be obvious how this solves a lot of problems, but just for fun I'll explain it to you anyway.\n\nNo money, no hunny\nAs it stands right now, new accounts make virtually no money on their posts. The odd post here and there that gets a @curie upvote or something similar is not a reliable source of income for anyone. Professional writers are not going to spend any time here if the results are not consistent.\n\nEven if a team of 100 curators had enough time and mental energy to sift through all the posts on this platform, a $54 upvote once a month is not going to do anything for anyone. What we need here is a consistent, reliable solution where content creators know that they are going to make a certain amount of money on every post.\n\nFor a 300 word article, for example, a native English-speaking writer should generally shoot for a minimum of $25 USD. If you're doing a bulk order you can lower the price a bit, but that's fairly standard (some would even say low) for a freelance writer.\n\nAs it stands now, writers on Steemit are making an embarrassingly-low amount per post.\n\nIf, however, high SP accounts agreed to fund an account with their own upvotes, then the SBD/SP generated from these upvotes could be used to pay authors directly for their contributions.\n\nAuthors would know going in that they would receive the equivalent of $25 USD (for example) per approved post. Why is this good? Because all of a sudden they'd know that they'd be guaranteed a payment for every article they write - just like in the real world.\n\nProblem #1, solved.\n\nNo exposure, no money\nAs if it wasn't bad enough that minnows didn't make any money from their posts, possibly even more insulting is the fact that their posts are quickly buried under a mountain of content from other users.\n\nOne way to circumvent this is with paid resteems. I am a fan of these services and have written about them in the past.\n\nHowever, the best way to guarantee that people read your content is by having a large following on your account. If you have 20k followers on your blog, then you have a much higher chance of your work being seen than if you only have 200.\n\nWith this new program, minnows would be able to work together to get exposure both for their own posts as well as for each others. In other words, if you have 10 accounts that submit one article each, and all of these accounts promote each other's posts (as well as the main account's), then you are reaching 10 audiences instead of 1.\n\nThis is commonly used for Instagram marketing and known as an engagement group. Everyone joins a group and likes each other's posts. So instead of only your own followers seeing pictures of your breakfast, lots of other people get to see it as well.\n\nMinnow accounts would be able to grow at a much faster rate because the amount of \"seeds\" on Steemit with links to their content would be multiplied significantly. Not only would they plant a seed on each of the participating users' accounts, but they'd also receive a link on the main account.\n\nIf you look at the bottom of my posts, I put a \"signature\" with links to my previous posts. A rotating signature would be created at the bottom of the new account as well that promotes the 10 recent posts. That's essentially 10 different resteems from an account that posts high quality content, hires writers from Steemit, AND has a cooperative-marketing requirement built in to its submission policy.\n\nProblem #2, solved.\n\nIf your paycheck depends on not understanding something, you won't understand it\nOne of the risks of the Steemit system is that certain high SP accounts will upvote all of their own posts and use the platform as a money-printing machine.\n\nFrom what I've seen, people have tried to stop this by publicly shaming offending accounts.\n\nWhile I'm willing to give these extremely vocal individuals the benefit of the doubt and assume that their crusade comes from honorable intentions, the bottom line is that it's an ineffective strategy that has proven to be unsuccessful.\n\nNot only that, it is a turn-off to new users of the platform to see so much vitriol tactlessly spread to high-visibility areas of the site.\n\nThe real issue is that high SP accounts have no incentive to stop upvoting their own posts. A little animosity from some anonymous internet personalities is not powerful enough motivation to turn off your money-printing machine.\n\nUntil there is a reason for them to use their SP for something else, they won't stop. That's just basic economics.\n\nThat said, creating 10 posts per day is a massive time sink. It requires you to spend all day in front of the computer writing, formatting your posts, etc. Yes, they are getting paid. But what if they could get paid the same amount of money without doing any of the work themselves?\n\nOr make even more money?\n\nBy outsourcing the labor to hungry writers, they would be able to spend their time creating a long-term strategy that would bring in even bigger profits. Negotiate deals with enterprise-level companies, create content for a $500/month paid newsletter, whatever.\n\nThe point is that they wouldn't have to just write post after post (which is extremely boring, trust me) and could instead use the time to grow their blog into a business.\n\nSo other than taking the task of content creation off their hands, what's in it for them?\n\nAll sponsored posts would have a link pointing to the whale's main blog/website/whatever, so they'd still be getting new followers and customers without doing any actual work.\n\nFurthermore, they'd still make money from the posts because a significant portion of the profits would be paid out to them on a weekly basis. No, it's not as much as if they were to just upvote their own post, but keep in mind that this is a completely passive strategy for them.\n\nOn top of that, they also make an additional 25% from curating the post as well.\n\nWorth mentioning is that they would establish some good will with the rest of the users on this site for spreading the wealth around a little bit. With this type of business model, they would know that they were responsible for enabling aspiring authors to make a little extra money from contributing content to the platform.\n\nImagine how grateful these authors would be for the opportunity to 1) reliably get paid actual money for their writing, and 2) get exposure for their brand/business/whatever. That gratitude could turn into potential future business opportunities for people who enjoy working together.\n\nFinally, and perhaps most important, is that Steemit would go from a place where authors can make money maybe possibly if the stars align and they get a @curie upvote, to a place where freelance writers could get reliably get paid in the double-digits to write high quality posts.\n\nNone of this \"just leave great comments and eventually you'll get discovered!\" nonsense.\n\nProblem #3, solved.\n\nThe best talent money can buy\nWhile I will admit that I've noticed a slight improvement in the quality of posts on the Trending page in the past few weeks, I think it's safe to say that overall this place could use a higher volume of better content.\n\nGo on Huffpost, CNN, TheOnion, Buzzfeed or any other major internet publication. Even if the topics aren't interesting to you, you'll notice that the articles have a certain level of quality. No spelling mistakes, no grammar issues, no 3 sentence articles. Does he do it because he \"cares about the future of the online magazine?\"\n\nAgain - no.\n\nHe does it because he has to pay rent and buy food. If he stopped getting paid, he would stop doing it.\n\nThe fact that he gets paid ensures a high level of quality. Both the writers and editors know that if they let the quality slip, they'll be replaced by the thousands of other writers and editors who are eager to prove themselves to the owner of the publication.\n\nAs far as I know, there's nothing like this on Steemit yet. Either you pay for upvotes or you're a whale and just upvote your own shit. Quality doesn't matter. The only people who put effort into their posts do so out of a sense of pride, because they don't want something to reflect poorly on them that will be saved in the STEEM blockchain forever.\n\nBut when you create a for-profit publication that hires writers to deliver quality articles, those writers have a compelling reason to keep their standards high. If they don't, they'll be replaced.\n\nCurrently, there is no incentive to even spellcheck and format your posts. What's the point? Even if you do, there's no guarantee that @curie or whoever will give you an upvote.\n\nAnd even if they do, are they going to do it for every single one of your posts? Of course not. They want to seem fair and spread the love.\n\nThat's understandable. It is once again time for me to get my full geek on and attend C2E2 (The Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo). Although I still enjoy taking the walk down memory lane and checking out cool new versions of my sci-fi and fantasy favorites, with my kids' college bills right around the corner, I can't really justify buying things that will just sit on a shelf.\n\nIn fact, as soon as my learned to walk, I made myself a pledge. Just go on Ebay. Find one. Select \"buy it now\" and pay for it.\n\nBut that is the problem. That is too easy. What's the fun in that? Half the fun of collecting is the hunt. To make it even more entertaining, one can set some strict parameters to increase the level of difficulty of finding the perfect piece. I did. I needed to find a totally complete set in decent shape for under $75.\n\nDo you remember how special the Holy Grail looked in Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade?\nHa! That was a trick question!\n\nIf you thought it looked all special and fancy, then you would turn to dust just like Walter Donovan did when he \"choose poorly\". It was just the opposite. Indy made a very big deal out of the fact he was looking for the cup of a carpenter. There was nothing fancy about it at all.\n\nThere is nothing fancy about my Holy Grail either. In fact, the Star Wars Darth Vader's Star Destroyer Playset super sucks!\n\nJust look at this thing!",

      "body": "One of the best things about sports is that just about anyone with a TV and an asshole opinion can feel like an expert. Fans like me always know which quarterback a team should have played, free agent needs to be signed, rookie should be drafted, and rule changes that need to be implemented. Heck we don't even need to do any research. After all, it's not like politics where shooting your mouth off and making decisions without any real knowledge or evidence can lead to serious consequences. No one would ever do that with something so important.\nDon't forget that everyone really wants to hear what you have to say.\n\nBut sports are safe. A bar stool philosopher can devise any cockamamie theory and spout it as often and as loud as he wants. In fact, the more he repeats his idea and the more volume he uses, the more likely it will be accepted. Either that or his friends will just mindless nod along to get him to shut up... not that this would ever happen to me.\n\nSo please, pull up a bar stool and prepare to hear me shout about how to solve a major problem with Major League Baseball.\n\nThat is right I said \"a\" major problem. I only have one quarter bottle of whiskey left. I can't possibly solve all of the problems of a sport whose lack of a time limit and leisurely pace has turned from charming to nearly excruciating. I don't know how to turn back the hands of time and make the average age of a baseball viewer decrease from a 57 year old member of AARP to a 27 year old member of PLRLPB (Party Like a Rock Star while Living in Parents' Basement). I don't know how to get the Commissioner to see that replay is killing the game or to find a way to present the game in three second highlights that match the attention span of most Americans.\n\nWhat was I saying?\n\nSo why did I ask you to sit down next to me while the barkeep pretends to clean just so he can avoid making eye contact that might result in my shouting about my crazy idea to him as well?\n\nI'd like to incoherently scream at you about the weather.\n\nLucky you!\n\nThrough April 15th, there were already 20 baseball games postponed due to the weather (there were 25 all last year). Six were postponed on that day alone. Many others have been played in conditions that can only be described as... super shitty. There have already been 22 games played with an opening pitch temperature below 40 degrees.\n\nLast week, my once beloved White Sox played a regular season baseball game in front of 974 people. That is not a typo. No zeroes are required. Did you ever wonder what 974 people in a stadium that seats 40,000 looks like? Probably not, because that would never happen... until it did.\n\n\nOn April 9th, the White Sox tried a new promotion. All invisible people got in for free. Rumor has it, it was a very successful event. But it was hard to tell by the looks not on their faces.\n\nLike any good barroom genius, I will immediately disarm your argument. Yes. 162 games is obviously far too many. In today's fast paced world, no one has time to watch 162 games. It would be far wiser to reduce the number of games, start the season May 1st and crown a champion during the first week in October. Each game would be more meaningful, they would be played in \"baseball weather\", and the pitching would be far less watered down. But it also would be better if the outfielders were all leprechauns riding unicorns and the beer vendors were super models who are really into fat guys with farmers' tans... but that isn't happening.\n\nReducing the number of games would also reduce the owners' and players' profit. Its very easy for a saloon loudmouth me to say that the owners should think of the long term health of the game. They should realize that taking less now will lead to a more popular product and more sustainable income in the future. But this is reality. In reality it is very hard to ask someone to walk away from a significant amount of money now in exchange for what might happen in the future. Neither the players nor the owners are going to leave millions of dollars on the table.\n\nThey need that money for these types of altruistic activities.\n\nSo here is my solution. Can you hear me? Should I shout louder? Should I have another drink of whiskey to make me smarter?\n\nTeams that play outdoors in cold weather cites should play the vast majority of their April games in Florida or Arizona. These teams should start on the road for the first week. Then they can have a home opening day the second week of April. There can be a scheduled off day (for the inevitable postponement of the home opener) followed by a second, and final, game of the series. Then they pack their bags and play several home games at or near their spring training facilities. One or two more road trips later, they can return to their home town to play in front of fans who don't have to risk frostbite in order to enjoy a game.\n\nThe White Sox and Dodgers already share Camelback Ranch, a state of the art facility in Arizona that holds 13,000 fans. If that isn't good enough, the cold weather teams (or MLB) can pool their money and build even better stadiums that can be used for spring training and the start of the season.\n\n\n\nMaybe you thought I said \"cameltoe\" but I clearly said \"Camelback\".\n\nSuch a plan would help in at least three major ways.\n\n1.Preventing injuries.\n\nSince we are in a bar, and I don't really need any evidence, let me just state that it is an absolute fact that more players get injured when it is cold. It is easier to pull a muscle or hurt your throwing arm. A player could slip on an icy or damp field. An icicle could fall off of the garage…and hit you in the eye, and break your glasses.\n\nIn addition, if many games are postponed and need to be made up later in the year, that will lead to more back-to-back games with players getting less rest. When players are fatigued, they are more likely to be injured. If you don't believe me, I will just yell it louder and louder until you do.\n\n\n\nYeah I know this has nothing to do with the cold but this is funnier.\n\n2.Fans\n\n10,000 fans paid for that White Sox vs Rays game on April 9th. 974 showed up. Why punish season ticket holders by forcing them to buy tickets they can't even give away? Instead of 81 home games with 10 being completely valueless, why not just charge them for 71? (Why 71? I have no idea. I don't need reasons!)\n\nTickets to these special games in Arizona or Florida could become a hot commodity. Many people already travel to see their teams practice during spring training. It seems logical that even more would love to plan a vacation centered around watching their team play someplace warm.\n\nTo make it even more special, teams could charge a premium for these scarcer tickets and provide perks for the fans who travel to see their team. Perhaps they could have autograph session or meet and greets with the players after the games. I would imagine advertisers would love to offer giveaways promoting their products to people with enough disposable income to travel to see their favorite team play.\n\nFans watching on TV would also benefit. Not only would they not have to suffer through watching a game played by bundled up players competing in front of fans disguised as empty seats, it would be far more likely games would not be canceled. If someone planned on watching a game at 7:30, they would not have to worry about having to watch The Planet from Outer Space on Rain Delay Theater instead.\n\nIf it were really cold, we would all be deprived of this.\n\n3.Money (The only one that really matters)\n\nEmpty seats don't buy beer or hotdogs. They also don't pay for parking or buy souvenirs. Many teams would relish the opportunity to play in front of a packed house of 13,000 fans instead of 974. In addition, companies don't pay premiums to advertise on Rain Delay Theater. And don't forget all of those outfield walls that are ripe for advertisements or naming rights for these stadia (yeah that is a plural of \"stadium\" see I told you I'm a genius once I have enough whiskey in me).\n\nSome may argue that popular cold weather teams like the Cubs will lose out on 10 home games. However, that also means that those reaming games all just became more valuable. I distinctly remember a barroom brawl breaking out when two guys foolishly strayed away from sports and decided to scream about economics instead. During it, I'm pretty sure one of them yelled that if supply goes down and demand stays the same, price goes up.\n\nCha ching!\n\nOK the room is spinning now. I am getting a little light headed (must be from all of the screaming). While I rest my voice, I will blankly stare at you while you scream your counter arguments.",
