      "body": "Sometimes our worst fears come from inside us. When those fears aren't realized, it almost seems silly. We did get to play rec league softball together and that is still a great memory. \n\nIt did feel great when I would get a new team and find out the son of a Board Members of the league would have their son on my team. \n\nI did enjoy taking you to gymnastics when you were younger. That could have been because the Gymnastics Coach was pretty hot! I never flirted though because I was married. LOL.\n\nI may have coached you on the things that mattered and I can see you have been passing those life lessons on to the Boys. I think you have even refined some of my lessons and made them better!",

      "body": "I'm so glad you told that story! I don't know why, but it felt to me like you coached for ten years. Those experiences had a big impact on me. I took advantage of being the Coach's daughter, and I'm sure I aggravated more than one player. I even had a few fleeting crushes, but nothing ever came of that. Travis was very clear with his friends and teammates that I was off limits. I think he was well-liked and respected enough that the other boys resisted my charm.\n \nBigger than that, I knew that you were doing good things for our family and the community. Even at that age, I was distressed by apathy, and I saw it everywhere. You were anything but apathetic. You cared about your boys. You pushed them hard, and you demanded that they have good skills and good character. You were universally respected, and parents wanted you to coach their boys.\n\nWhile I respected your commitment to baseball, it made me feel like I had to play softball to get your approval or to connect with you. Playing ball was such a big part of our lives. I played for 3 years before I got up the guts to say that I didn't like playing. It was after you guys sent me to that skills camp for a week. I did very well there, and I knew that I was getting better and better, but I just did not enjoy playing. We know now how severely my illness must have impacted my athleticism, but at the time, I thought I was disappointing you guys.\n\nTelling you I didn't want to play anymore turned out to be... inconsequential. You and Mom both encouraged me to follow my own interests. Getting that kind of support gave me so much confidence moving forward. I knew that you guys would support me, even if the activity was not something you were interested in.   \n\nI needed that. \n\nYou managed to coach me in the things that mattered.",

      "body": "The differences between men and women have been written about and examined for centuries. Most people have heard that a woman crossing a dark parking lot is a completely different experience for a man.  Today's post will address a lesson to my sons about how men should interact with other people's children.\n\nThese guidelines do not apply to the man's own children. It applies to other's boys and girls, and it includes siblings, step-children, family, friends, cousins, nieces or nephews, etc. This How-to topic is solely to protect men from compromising situations or mistaken interpretations of his actions. Of course there will be exceptions, like an injured child, but keeping these ideas in mind can help a man avoid any impression of impropriety. \n\nThe diaper rule #1: You should not carry another person's child unless they are still in diapers. This is not a hard and fast rule, but it is important to keep it in mind. It might sound extreme, but here is a real story from a man in my life:\nThis young man was holding his 6 year old sister. He put her down immediately, and felt ashamed, like he did something wrong. I think she had some sort of negative experience that made her look at this normal interaction in a bad light. Regardless, this type of incident could cause a lot more than misplaced shame. Even piggyback rides require a hand on the butt.\n\nThe diaper rule #2: Never let a child sit on your lap unless they are still in diapers. I understand this also sounds extreme, but it is so important in today's world that a man does not put himself in a position where his innocent interactions could be twisted and misconstrued into something ugly. You cannot be seen as lecherous if you avoid this type of contact.\n\nDiaper rule #3: Never share a blanket with a child unless they are still in diapers. \n\nA parting tip: Try to avoid being alone with children that are not yours. Having a witness, even another child, could protect a man from false accusations. If baby-sitting, take them to a park or another public place.\n\nProtect yourselves. Men have less credibility in our society; Right or wrong, that is a fact. Putting up boundaries protects everyone.  I've seen men incarcerated due to accusations with no proof. Registering as a sex offender is for life, and it tarnishes everything.",

      "body": "My name is Traci, and I am 38 years old.\n\nLike all of you, I have many titles: mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, retiree, veteran, officer, writer, artist, lover, etc. These titles define our lives. I have been ill my entire life, but in 2013, I became nearly bed-ridden. After retiring on disability, I survived by living moment to moment. Looking ahead was terrifying, because all I could see was pain. It made me feel hopeless and worthless. I became an expert at compartmentalizing. I excelled at distraction. These were a few of the strategies I used to get through the worst of my illness. \n\nWe all have strategies for coping with the things life throws at us. As parents, we use strategies to raise kids. Couples find ways to stay connected. I collect strategies for life. I have two teenage boys, 14 and 16. Every single day that passes, they are one day closer to adulthood. I dread sending them out into the world ill-prepared. I am constantly trying to help them develop good habits, and I obsess over the things they need to know and what I might be forgetting. I am teaching them Adulting, and it is one of the topics I will be writing about here. I invite you to agree or disagree.
