To risk exclusion from the mainstream, consumer driven culture and society, in favor of a more intimate and immediate relationship with life as it is. For 3 decades, I've been told to dress, behave, spend, work, romance, and live in accordance with certain cultural 'norms', trying to live up to the expectations of my family, employers, friends, and society around me.\n\nUntil I broke...\n3 years ago I had a depression/anxiety breakdown. I'd become totally disillusioned by society as a whole. In particular, the way we're coerced and then locked into wage slavery. We go through an education system which instead of teaching us valuable life skills, like how to learn according to our individual needs, how to think critically, and how to instill self-confidence, it merely teaches us how to be good employees, and good spenders, and discourages critical thinking, discourages us to question how the world works, and makes us feel insecure about our place within in. Then we're told to find a 'life partner', and secure a good job in order to buy a house, raise a family, 2.7 kids, a dog and a big TV in every room. We buy a car to sit in 2 hours of traffic just to get to and from the job we need to pay off the car and the house, and we can't quit because we're locked into 30+ years of interest accruing debt. That doesn't sound like living to me, and trying to make myself fit within that lifestyle was tearing me apart.\n\nSo, I sold all my shit, and what I didn't sell, I put into storage and hit the road. After travelling overseas for a year, I had to return to my previous job. But the vegabond in me was still growing stronger day by day. I loved living without the social and community expectations weighing on my shoulders. Being able to rest my head in new and unusual places, and waking up each day to a new and unique experience.\n\nSo when I returned to Sydney, and took up my old post at my old job, I had a few decisions to make. Do I want to deal with greedy and unhelpful landlords and estate agents again? Fuck no. Do I want to house share, and spend a large portion of my time living with someone else's poor housemate etiquette? Also fuck no.\n\nDo I want to be able to hit the road whenever I got itchy feet, go on adventures, and explore the country I'd lived in for decades to find new opportunities, make new friends, reacquaint with friends of the past, and live on the coat tails of the coastal or mountain breeze? Now we're talking!\n\nWithin a month, I'd secured a VW minivan, and kitted it out with insulation, a cot, some storage boxes and a fridge. Never do I feel so liberated and free as when I'm on the road, to anywhere. Whether it be to the local bowling club car park near work where I get some sleep between shifts, or heading interstate with the sun setting behind me. Or it could be my usual spot in a quiet residential alleyway just a few hundred meters from the heart of the city's afterdark culture.\n\nVanlife, for me, has been the first step towards true liberation. Liberation from decades of consumerist ideology, cultural indoctrination, and a previously inescapable prison-like existence. Everywhere we go has another world within, beneath, under, or outside, and they're all happening in parallel, and intertwining with each other. They're all created by those inhabiting them, and with every new adventure, whether it be to the pub for a pint, or to the other side of the world, I'm discovering those new worlds and the people creating them.\n\nMe and my little van... Rolling through worlds unseen by those with their nose glued to the paper, or their eyes fixed on their screens. That sounds like life to me!",

      "body": "Most currencies have taken a beating over the past 4-6 weeks. IMHO this is just part of a natural correction of profit taking amid uncertainty in parts of the market (Bitcoin scaling, exchange DDoS, geopolitical factors etc) I'm expecting a market turnaround sometime between now and September. So we need to be prepared to take advantage of that.\n\nFor those holding Bitcoin, who wish to keep holding Bitcoin throughout the UASF on Aug 1st, I highly recommend pulling all of it off the exchanges, and storing it in a paper or offline wallet for now. At least until we see what the situation will be post Aug 1st. I'm not going to speculate on values, but there may be an issue where one exchange supports the wrong coin in the event of a hard fork, and you could be left bagholding near worthless coins if your BTC is converted to the least popular coin by your exchange.\n\nEthereum should (theoretically anyways) be unaffected by a successful UASF in BTC. However, if the BTC situation goes tits up, ETH and LTC stand to gain more traction. LTC is a likely looser if the BTC UASF goes through without a hitch.\n\nIf Aug 1st runs smoothly, there won't be many currencies which do not perform well when the market turns bullish again. We want to be in the currencies which will far exceed the market when it does turn around though. A good indicator for coins which may exceed market pace will be those which have survived the bear market better than most (I'm looking at you DASH), and those which were oversold during the bear market (ETH & ZEC spring to mind)\nStandard investment rules still apply though. For me to invest in a coin, it needs to be backed by a class leading platform with real world usage, and it needs to have ongoing and ethical development by a proven dev team.\n\nThe following are coins I will be looking at. As usual though, this isn't investment advice, and you should do your own research.\n\nDashPay https://www.dash.org/\nDash already have a functioning product, Digital Cash. It's fast, convenient and easy to use whether you're sending money peer-to-peer, or using it for commerce. It's already possible to pay electricity bills etc in Australia using Dash.\nIt's been one of the more reliable and stable currencies over the past year, and I've not heard of anything illicit going on with the platform. It's also held up really well over the past month or so. It's a great hedge against bitcoin, considering it does the same thing as bitcoin, only faster. They're looking to implement Lightning support, and decentralized control of developer funds this year among other new features.       "body": "<html>\n<p>&nbsp;With Bitcoin and cryptocurrency on a lot of people's radar recently, I thought I'd put together a short overview of what cryptocurrency is, and how you can invest.</p>\n<p><strong>What is Cryptocurrency?</strong></p>\n<p>Basically, a cryptocurrency is a digital token, designed to work as a medium of exchange, or a method of record keeping. However, it uses cryptographic algorithms to secure and verify transactions across it's network and to control the creation of new tokens (inflation).</p>\n<p><br>\n<a href=\"https://bitcoin.org/\">Bitcoin</a> was the first decentralized cryptocurrency, created in 2009 by the as yet unidentified Satoshi Nakamura. Bitcoin uses Peer-to-Peer transactions, with no middleman or financial institution involved. Records of each transaction are cryptographically verified by other nodes on the Bitcoin network, then those transactions combined into a 'block' and added to Bitcoin's ledger, otherwise knows as the blockchain. The blockchain holds details of every single transaction on the Bitcoin network, and as the blockchain is simultaneously held on multiple nodes throughout the blockchain network, it is unable to be changed, disrupted, censored, or hacked.&nbsp;Nodes on the network, commonly known as 'Miners' collect a small fee from each Bitcoin transaction, as an incentive for keeping the network online.<br>\n<br>\nSince Bitcoin was released, there have been hundreds of new cryptocurrencies created, which all serve their own individual purpose. <a href=\"https://www.ethereum.org/\">Ethereum</a> is arguably the most successful platform after Bitcoin. Ethereum enables users to attach 'Smart Contracts' to their transactions, which execute without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud, or third-party interference. Most other \"Alt-coins\" have piggybacked off the design of the Bitcoin or Ethereum code, and each have made their own improvements or features added to those codebases. Some may be more privacy orientated, others more&nbsp;focused&nbsp;on the speed of transactions, and more commonly these days, a lot of coins are being launched to fund new projects in place of seeking venture capital.<br>\n</p>\n<p><strong>What is the potential?</strong></p>\n<p><a href=\"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Satoshi_Nakamoto\">Satoshi Nakamoto</a>'s blockchain concept is revolutionizing the tech industry, in way I don't thing even (s)he imagined. Without a doubt, this is Internet-v2.0, and it comes with the same, (or more!) potential for growth and revolution throughout the world.Bitcoin, and most other cryptocurrencies are decentralized, meaning they're hosted by the network users themselves. This allows Bitcoin etc to work outside of the over-regulated world of the banking and finance sector, and it can not be controlled or regulated by any government.&nbsp;</p>\n<p>Cryptocurrencies can work cross-boarders, in a timely and efficient manor, with extremely low transaction fees. For example, many people in impoverished regions either have no access to traditional banking, or it is too unsafe to carry carry cash in/out of a bank for fear of being robbed. Bitcoin is giving these people the&nbsp;opportunity&nbsp;for&nbsp;some financial freedom and safety, as well as being able to access micro-loans to establish enterprise in their region.</p>\n<p><br>\nCryptocurrency and blockchain technology has uses in everything from humanitarianism, commercial banking, insurance, personal finance, venture funding, healthcare, manufacturing, and pretty much every other industry you can think of.There are a lot of incredible projects which are being funded by ICO's (Initial Coin Offerings, like a Float of the stock market) instead of having to seek Venture Capital arrangements. This means that for the first time in history, the average investor has access to invest in potentially groundbreaking projects and businesses at a very early stage. Imagine having the&nbsp;opportunity&nbsp;to invest in Google or Facebook in their early days! There are so many start-ups&nbsp;developing&nbsp;incredible blockchain projects, which are set to revolutionize their respective industries, who are offering you and I the chance to invest at the ground level via their cryptocurrencies.<br>\n</p>\n<p><strong>What sort of projects are involved?</strong></p>\n<p>There is already a huge number of projects officially launched, or under development. There are dozens of projects being developed on the Ethereum codebase in order to take advantage of these 'Smart Contracts'. Everything from insurance policies to gambling.&nbsp;Other projects include 'Privacy Coins' which allow completely anonymous transactions using Zero Knowledge verifications. <a href=\"https://ripple.com/\">Ripple</a> is a platform which is revolutionizing inter-bank transactions, and could make the current SWIFT system entirely redundant. Then there are other projects which have marketplaces, or social media platforms built in. The possibilities are endless!<br>\n</p>\n<p><strong>What are the risks?</strong></p>\n<p>As with any investment, there are risks. However, due to the nature and relative adolescence of the cryptocurrency industry, the risks are far higher than traditional investments like stocks or property. There is a lot of profit to be made, but investors must do their homework on the coin itself, and the general political climate surrounding these kinds of investments. Recently, some negative comments from Chinese and Indian Govt press officers have cause a huge dump in prices across the board. With this in mind though, Bitcoin was actually less&nbsp;volatile&nbsp;than crude oil last year.There is also large risks of an individual project failing to realize it's goals, and an ever larger risk of unintentionally investing in so-called Scam-coins, which have been created purely for the profit of the developer, and offer no long term potential.<br>\n<br>\n<strong>How can I invest?</strong></p>\n<p>Firstly, do your homework. Spend some time on the Bitcoin forums, Crypto message boards and reddit. Research as many projects as you can, and try to find a reason NOT to invest your hard earned. I always recommend people invest only in projects which they believe offer industry leading technology, and real value to the greater community. It's it's unethical, or isn't 'best in class', forget about it.Most Cryptocurrencies are purchased on an exchange, in much the same way you'd buy stocks, bonds or forex. Depending on the exchange however, most of the Alt-coins only trade against Bitcoin. So generally it is necessary&nbsp;to purchase Bitcoin in order to invest in these other coins and projects.Traditional investing rules apply regarding buying and selling, and these should suit your personal investment style, and your personal level of acceptable risk. Use common sense and leave fear and greed at the door. Never regret a missed&nbsp;opportunity, it's always better to err' on the side of caution rather than to face a big loss.<br>\n</p>\n<p>I hope this has given some of you a better idea of this exciting investment landscape.
