      "body": "### During the last leg of law school, neglecting sleep put my health at risk. After contracting influenza shortly before COVID-19 took the country by force, I was deemed immuno-compromised and instructed to become an early isolationist. As influenza bordered on pneumonia, a simple cough treatment helped win the fight against escalation.\n\n> _Disclaimer: I am not a Doctor or medical expert. It was in early February when my children caught the flu from their school friends. It is not uncommon for the flu to cycle through the children like this each year. Fortunately, I get the flu less than once per year with mild symptoms lasting no more than a week at best.\n\nHowever, this year was different. The flu symptoms waxed and waned for almost 2-weeks before there were signs of recovery. But this was an illusion. What was not apparent were the silent precursors for sudden onset of a more severe bout of the flu. These included chronic sleep deprivation, poor eating and exercise habits, and general stress and unhappiness in my personal life. Couple this with a diagnosis of Thyroiditis, Spontaneous Scattered Endometriosis, and Fibroid Breast Disease between 2016 and 2019, pain, low mood, and exhaustion were a normal part of my daily life. However, despite always recovering quickly from the flu in the past, it was clear that the resulting effect of all the foregoing trauma I caused myself had pushed my immune system beyond its usual healing abilities.\n\n> This cacophony does not assist in the easy maintenance of a strong immune system.\n\n## Isolation is both a blessing and a curse.\n\nCoupled with the flu, being immuno-compromised meant a much longer phase of self-isolation and social lockdown than most. Over the years it became obvious that mental health impacted general health and wellbeing greater than is reportedly made evident. My current doctor shared a cyclic system showing that while most GPs tend to treat symptoms, they are taught in medical school that all illnesses stem from a root cause that transitions from one's psychological wellbeing, which in turn is born from one's social wellbeing. \n\nTo simplify, when we are not harmonious with those around us, when our relationships with other people and life are not balanced it affects us psychologically. This impact then manifests into a physical immuno-compromising state of being which may allow for not only being susceptible to common contractable diseases but also the activation of once dormant, auto-immune responses.\n\n> There is a genuine need for our global community to build hope and encouragement because misery loves company, but happiness boosts health. Hope helps others find a little happiness.\n\nSome of the [symptoms](https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-identifying-the-symptoms) matched those reported to be indications of COVID-19 infection, and so I began researching [medical journals](https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11606-020-05762-w?fbclid=IwAR2-aneSIVLz3vK0Jnlbv-G_Un2IUVoVvbdW676UYfpbrQV-xE-UcT6BpxQ#Sec3) and articles to learn more about the symptoms of coronavirus, its [impact on the lungs](https://pubs.rsna.org/doi/full/10.1148/radiol.2020200463#_i5), and the causal reason for [ICU admissions and death](https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0924857920300674#sec0007). \n\nSome of the symptoms I had included several days of mild temperature spikes, clogged nasal passages, and head and body aches. I did not have a dry cough, nor a sore throat (Source: COVID-19 Basics by [Harvard Health](https://www.health.harvard.edu/diseases-and-conditions/covid-19-basics)). Since I was a child, the usual course of treatment included boosting the immune system with several high doses of vitamin c [also see] (approx. 10–20 grams daily from the first sign of symptoms), a zinc supplement, 2–3 cups of green tea with lemon, grated ginger root, peppermint leaves, and honey, and extra water intake. Added to this routine was anti-inflammatory pain relief as required.\n\nAs the flu entered its third week in my system and following several days with only mild sinus-like symptoms, I woke in the morning with a feeling of heaviness in my lower lungs and a relentless post-nasal drip.\n\n> The proven and effective use of expectorants in patients with pneumonia is a common treatment used in hospitals to thin the mucous and assist in its removal from the lungs and sinuses and is being used in the treatment of COVID-19 pneumonia cases. (Source: [Journal of Hainan Medical University 2019; 25(3): 17–21](http://www.hnykdxxb.com/PDF/201903/05.pdf))\n\nFollowing the logic that evolved from the aforementioned research (above), immediate action was taken to prevent the virus from setting in and causing something much worse, like pneumonia. Together with the remedial strategy outlined above, I added to the regiment a dose of Guaifenesin Forte (600mg tablets) every 4 hours.\n\nWhat guaifenesin is and how it helps to relieve chest congestion in bronchitis and pneumonia (Source: [HealthTap](https://www.healthtap.com/topics/mucinex-for-pneumonia)). Although I do not have COVID-19, the pattern of symptoms is not dissimilar to the flu. In the developed stage, and severe cases, reportedly around day 8 of infection, the disease is characterized by the feeling of having a heavy chest and lungs and shortness of breath. With that in mind, the principles are not dissimilar to treating the pneumonia-like symptoms associated with other chest infections.\n\n> The symptoms that indicate the potential for pneumonia are essentially causing people to inundate the medical and hospital systems all over the world.\n\nSo, what if you could manage and possibly mitigate the onset of pneumonia by taking control of the mucous before it thickens and becomes difficult to break up and expectorate out of your body?\n\nBased on the research, an awareness of your body and noticing when an immune response is happening, like a fever or unusual lethargy, acts as a valid warning sign to start boosting your immunity and preparing for if and/or when mucous in the throat is felt. It is best not to wait until it is present in your chest or lungs.\n\nIn the first stage, a symptom of COVID-19 is a dry cough. It's long been known that dry cough medications, or suppressants, are designed to provide relief from the act of coughing but should only be used in specific circumstances and never for too long. Suppressants operate by preventing you from coughing which may also stop the body from naturally expelling the viral mucous that is beginning to form. By suppressing the cough, it may enable the virus to populate and become something far more sinister (Source: [University of Michigan, Medical Michigan](https://www.uofmhealth.org/health-library/ug1887)).\n\nUnfortunately, this is not necessarily the best approach because what you really want is for the virus to leave the body or be eradicated by your immune system. Common sense, therefore, shows us that cough suppressants should be avoided in the event that you have contracted the flu or COVID-19 (Source: [Informed Health, NCBI](https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK458286/)).\n\nThis was my logic and reason for taking the course of action that I did. In less than 48 hours and approximately 6 doses of the expectorant, Guaifenesin Forte, I stopped mild pneumonia from worsening. Thankfully no other systems have occurred and it has been approximately 4-days and my immune system is recovering as would be expected from the last stage of the flu.\n\nBy reducing the ability for the mucous to thicken it could reduce the effect or impact of mild pneumonia onset. It follows that, in turn, this could mitigate the need for hospital intervention (which is needed when the mucous gets too thick in the lungs and airway decreasing the ability to breathe) reducing the burden on the medical industry and allowing those most severely affected to be treated properly.\n\nThis may not work for everyone. In consideration of a genuine need for our global community to build hope and encouragement among the society, we should all band together and help each other survive these unforeseen times.\nMisery loves company, but happiness boosts the immune system. You begin searching the property listings in and around locations that you favor. Every photo, video walk-through, and description heightens your endorphins. The adrenaline is rushing through your body and you cannot wait to go looking in person. That is the beginning stages of homebuyer bliss.\n\nOn weekends, eager to explore, you get in the car and drive around your ideal neighborhoods. Feeling like children in a candy store, you notice every ‘For Sale’ sign, wondering what’s inside. You absorb as much as you can, scoping out the environment and the home’s proximity to work, schools, and the shops.\n\nThen, you find it, your dream home. It’s in the perfect neighborhood, close to all you need. You decide to connect with the Real Estate Agent. Only, they aren’t available at the moment, and they invite you to the open home. This does not sound favorable. In fact, you immediately plummet into feelings of loss, grief, fear, and annoyance. Why couldn’t the Agent make themselves available for a walk through when you felt ready? Can’t they see you are eager to move forward? Aren’t they as excited as you are about this sale?\n\nAt that moment, you lose hope. The experience stops you in your tracks. It isn’t living up to all the enthusiasm and anticipation you felt in the beginning. Now, you are feeling hassled, stressed, ignored, and helpless. This is one of the most important decisions of your life, and you were no longer in control of it.\n\nThis was our experience too.\n\nMonths went by before we bought our new home. A process we believed should have been much easier, was an experiential nightmare. While we finally did buy the home of our dreams, that special feeling of homebuyer bliss did not return for us. This was the same outcome for others we spoke with. What began as a wonderful adventure turned into a chaotic roller coaster ride.\n\nAgitation and anxiety crept in. Real estate agent’s unavailability and their lack of responsiveness permeated every conversation. The hassle and stress of meeting with agents, on their schedules, left us feeling disenfranchised. We soon realized that we were not in charge of buying our dream home anymore. The journey stripped away our homebuyer bliss and trying to enjoy our new home became a chore.\n\nOur personal experience led us to research a means to remedy this problem. We sought to find a way to diminish the overwhelm caused by the home buying madness. Our aim was to remove the open home dramas, the sense of helplessness and feeling ignored. No more agents sidelining buyers. Homebuyer bliss is not about them. It is not about their time schedules or their share of the profits. There is a huge hole in one of the most essential, not to mention largest, industries in the world. Most people prefer to use the professional services of a real estate agent, whether it be to sell their home or to assist in buying one. Undertaking this yourself is time-consuming. Needless to say, there is a lot to know. There are legalities, statistics, and the all-important ability to negotiate. It makes sense that using a real estate professional would appear easier. However, even other real estate agents could see there were issues within the current system but had no way to remedy them, until now.\n\nThat’s why we developed the PingZing app. It’s not just another property listings app; because looking up homes is the easiest part of buying a home.
