Why, of course.</p><p>First of all we obviously have to consider what kind of “government” we’re talking about at first. Because you can’t say that public opinion matters in a totalitarian regime or in a dictatorship. Or in an oligarchy. It does not. In the former only the opinion of one person matters, while in the latter only the opinion of a few select people matter. </p><p>But in a democracy, which is still the best and the most accepted form of government, the opinion of all is supposed to be given, in the very least, expression even if not consideration and implementation. But is this the way it is? In real life cases? Absolutely not.</p><p>For example in my country we claim to have a democracy and you’d hear the politicians yap about how it is a government of the people BY the people. But we all know that deep in its core our democracy is nothing of the sort.</p><p>Its nothing but a bunch of people making life altering decisions for millions with only their own best interests at heart. </p><p>I suppose the problem is that we don’t have the kind of government we think we do. There really is no perfect democracy. Could there be? Could there be a system where everybody’s opinion would matter and no decision would be made without having everyone’s input?</p><p>Of course not. It’s quite impossible and even to an extent, undesirable. It would take a hell of a long time to take everyones opinion and the result might not even be desirable. But still, the decision making and appointments should remain fairly inclusive as possible.</p><p>Perhaps with the use of referendums and polls and all of those tools. Why should it matter? Because the government makes highly important decisions every single day that affects the lives matter of everyone living in that state. The least they could do is have in say in the matter of at least have a say in selecting the people who has a say in the matter.</p><p>Sadly though it is mostly all a facade. In my country the election is a mere formality. In the end they’re rigged and the selfish politicians just embezzle the resources and implement policies that fosters more ease for this.</p><p>The search for the perfect system, of course, is not a new discussion at all. Ever since ancient times men have searched for the kind of government type that would be as inclusive and efficient as possible.</p><p>But sadly some of the proposed solutions have always yielded the same results as their predecessors: which is that they’re always better in theory than they are in actual practice, and most of the time sadly a lot of people would have died before we recognize this.</p><p>In my opinion the problem is not the system at all. But us humans.
