      "body": "Ian Bremmer, President and Founder of The Eurasia Group which is an international consulting firm, an editor for Time Magazine and a professor at New York University has created a thesis on why he believed globalization has failed and initiated the shift toward nationalism over the last 2 years.\n\nBremmer is a globalist. He believes that globalization is good for the world because its theoretical framework creates opportunities during periods of economic downturn. For Bremmer, globalization opens doors of prosperity for economically challenged countries.\n\nHowever, Bremmer in his thesis “Us vs. Them: The Failure of Globalism”, concedes that globalization has not benefited everyone because its success created economic inequalities. Increased immigration introduced distortions in the wage rate, increase competition in an already-scarce jobs market and fears on radical changes in social values.\n\nBremmer believes that inequality has empowered populist thought. Local citizens began to point fingers as to why their lot in life has not improved. Consequently, immigrants become the obvious target.\n\nWhy? Traditionally globalist countries such as Germany, France and Canada have strongly advocated pro-immigration policies by citing the need for more warm bodies to fill in gaps in much-needed skills. Bremmer argues that inequality has made competition ugly and has led to an “Us vs. Them” narrative which has played to the benefit of nationalists.\n\nIn terms of innovation, some countries did not have the money or resources to comply with the demands of change. Even if in theory, automated means of production could make processes more efficient, they could not assume the risk if revenue targets are not met.\n\nBremmer cites the example of Nigeria. It is a growing economy but its level of poverty has increased since the start of the 21st century. Despite rising poverty levels, the Nigerian government has hardly spent on public health or the creation of social programs. Nigeria is the most populated country in Africa but also experiences a high degree of economic and social inequality. It has not benefited from the globalization movement.\n\nHowever, Brenner thinks that globalization may still find its way back to relevance.       "body": "Scientists from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) have discovered that microplastics have found their way into the ocean floor of the Great Australian Bight; one of Australia’s most precious and pristine marine environments.\n\nDr. Denise Hardesty, one of the principal research scientists at CSIRO, believes the discovery should act as a wakeup call for the Australian government to prioritize legislation that strongly incentivizes companies to address the growing problem of microplastics in deep ocean waters:\n\n“This points to just how ubiquitous plastics are in our environment. Even in deep sea sediments around Australia, that’s a developed country, we still find plastic, anthropogenic waste, from the bottom of the ocean to the surface.![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmfS4P1fZrfmyouonkVw4xRGQL1Nfd66KTfqoxRPJiXcwD/image.png)\n\n“Wherever you are, the organisms passing through those areas will have come in contact with it. Whether it was a fishing line or a plastic bag that’s broken down into thousands of tiny pieces.”\n\nLast year, CSIRO scientists likewise found microplastics in samples taken from the Derwent river which is located in Tasmania. Mussels that were extracted from the river were also found to have consumed the microplastics.\n\nDr. Jennifer Lavers from the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies at the University of Tasmania shared her opinion that Australians should be concerned that microplastics have found their way to the Great Australian Bight:\n“Everything that is tiny at the base of the food web so it’s not an issue of just an albatross swallowing a cigarette lighter or a sperm whale swallowing big chunks of net. You now have literally microplastics being eaten by corals, sea cucumbers, clams and mussels, and zoo plankton at the very base of the food web. You have all levels of the food web infiltrated with this stuff. It’s everywhere and where the plastic goes, the chemicals follow.”\n\nJason Tanner, a marine biologist for the South Australia Research and Development Institute led the research on biodiversity in the Great Australian Bight:\n\n“There’s quite a diverse fauna down there; filter feeders, soft corrals, sponges and lots of more mobile organisms, starfish, sea cucumbers, urchins and of course, fish. We found almost 300 new species from our sampling.”\n\nSouth Australia introduced legislation in 1977 that would provide cash as incentives for returning recyclable plastics. We look at the state of freedom or lack of it in Australia with political correctness and social re-engineering reigning supreme. We reflect on the Trump phenomena and whether we are satisfied with his performance as President. We look at the destruction third wave feminism has brought to women’s rights and animosity it has created between the genders.\n\nWe look at the abortion struggle which as well as being up against laws which permit abortion until birth there are now laws against pro-life activism. We discuss what is the right immigration mix, how Islamic and African immigration is not suited to Australia but white South Africans are a different matter.       "body": "There is always outrage when a Christian baker, florist or photographer refuses to provide their services for a same-sex wedding. Various state anti-discrimination laws have ruined Christian wedding businesses with large fines and legal fees, and also led to many others receiving abuse from LGBT activists.\n\nThe issue is now before the US Supreme Court in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission, a saga which began in 2012 when  Masterpiece Cakeshop refused to bake a wedding cake for a same-sex wedding. They were then sued under Colorado state law which bars discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in public accommodations. The Court is considering if the law violates the free exercise of religion under the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.\n\nBut businesses being forced to serve people whose beliefs/lifestyles they disagree with would appear to only go one way. Since the election of Trump, his supporters have found themselves the target of abuse and discrimination. After receiving rude service from a bartender they were formally asked to leave by a senior staff member who told them “Anyone who supports Trump — or believes in what you believe — is not welcome here! And you need to leave right now because we won’t serve you!”\n\nPiatek decided to sue the bar in the Manhattan Supreme Court claiming they “offended his sense of being American”. The lawyer for The Happiest Hour argued the eviction was lawful because state and city anti-discrimination laws only protect religion, not political belief. The judge hearing this case agreed and dismissed Piatek’s case proclaiming that “Here the claim that plaintiff was not served and eventually escorted out of the bar because of his perceived support for President Trump is not outrageous conduct”.\n\nThis ruling could have ramifications around the United States and could mean that Trump supporters may have to hide their political beliefs for fear of falling afoul of their employer or dealings with other businesses.\n\nA similar ruling was made in Australia in the past week, the Fair Work Ombudsman ruled that a Canberra party business did not break any workplace laws when it ended its relationship with contractor Madeline when she posted a Facebook frame on her profile picture of ‘It’s okay to vote no’ during the Marriage Law Postal Survey. The Ombudsman ruled that political opinion was not a protected attribute under Australian law.\n\nThis disparity between discrimination laws based on traditional left and right wing attributes does appear to be a double standard and an example of one rule for some and another for others. Surely our society has to decide if all workplace/business discrimination is wrong or the classical liberal principle of freedom of association should reign supreme.\n\n*Update: A representative for the bar “The Happiest Hour” sent the following statement to The Unshackaled:\n“At the Happiest Hour we firmly support womens’ rights, marriage equality, gun control, the environment, and regard for the truth- we don’t discriminate. What’s gotten lost in this story is that the guest wasn’t kicked out because he was wearing a Trump hat- he was asked to leave after being verbally abusive to our staff, which is something we don’t tolerate regardless of who you are.       "body": "Parents in Virginia are outraged after their ninth-grade children were shown an inappropriate sex-Ed video which talks in great detail about how to use a male partner’s penis to provide maximum pleasure. The video would be inappropriate for most public places, and that goes double for a state-run school. Granted, anyone who chooses to watch this video in the privacy of their own home is well within their right, but parents are understandably upset. Watch the video below (if you dare):\nThe school teaches Sex-Ed with the help of an organization called SARA, who was asked to leave after multiple complaints from the parents. According to the school SARA had always selected their content carefully, and that this was not what they had come to expect from the program. Hopes were high for this year’s event despite the left wing threatening their usual antics, this time they were hoping to rally their numbers to commemorate the deaths of the Frontier Wars to which I say,  each to his own, but you could pick a better day and refrain from the use of the words “lest we forget,” a phrase most commonly associated with ANZAC Day.\n\nSometime before the day itself (either late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning) this banner was put up in Carlton.\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSyFu7Vt1LWBfJGkLioe1mpadSKZtcUKXwPrF3TjpUnr6/image.png)\n\nSo far this is the only one that has been publicised but there is no reason why they could not have put up more.\n\nThe night before protesters were also spotted outside the Victoria State Library in a group no more than 15 holding up antiwar signs including the Syrian flag. At the front was a man with a megaphone announcing their plans to hold rallies for the Frontier Wars as well as many other wars that the left disagrees with.\n\nThe next day people looking out for Frontier Wars rallies in Melbourne were disappointed, as there have been no reports of anything. However, video footage has emerged showing a large group in Canberra approaching the soldiers in the ANZAC march calling white people bastards (even though their group was made up of whites predominantly) and playing music by blowing the great hollow stick of complexity and beating the wooden sticks of low energy. It was truly terrifying…\n\nAll leftist antics aside, the turnout at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne was truly impressive. Thousands were gathered in a crowd that covered almost the entire corner of the park. The morning started off with speeches from politicians and returned servicemen alike reflecting upon Australia’s long and eventful war history, as well as stories of bravery and savagery from the Great War.\n\nSecurity at the event was rather poor, as a cameraman, I patrolled the event throughout with a backpack that could have held anything in it but no one looked at me twice, despite the fact that I just look like a school shooter.\nThe March followed soon after at 9 a.m. We gathered at Flinders Street to see large groups of soldiers in formation as well as various marching bands. It was really quite impressive to watch. When the march began one could see much evidence of the diversification of the army. As they marched in groups of 10 to 50 I could not see any obvious transsexuals, however, a significant portion of some of those groups were made up of Asian looking cadets. This level of diversity would not have been seen or even dreamed about back in the 1910s during a high point of the “White Australia Policy.” Picture of the ANZACs reflect that entirely.\n\nI did not let that ruin my experience though and continued to film. Banners were carried naming each conflict Australia has ever been in, including the cold war proxies with Veterans from each war marching close behind.\n\nInterviewing bystanders was interesting. Everyone had a different story of a relative that served in the supposed War to End All Wars. One man stated that if it wasn’t for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 his grandfather would have probably not survived the Second World War, being in a Japanese POW camp for most of the conflict. This was indeed an interesting take on things that I had never thought about before.\n\nAll in all, Wednesday showed that Australians’ sense of national pride is still very much alive and well. Leftist agitators were either too scared or were just plain ignored as the day powered on and the crowds only grew bigger. The conversations with the people I spoke to showed just how much the general public connects with days like this. We all have a stake in this country, its past and future, and I believe that as the years go on despite the pushing of diversity and Marxist ideas this day and days like it will always be special to the real Australians.\n\nhttp://www.theunshackled.net/rundown/anzac-day-reaffirms-australian-national-pride/",

      "body": "Alfie Evans is just under two-years-old and has been struck by a level of disease no infant should ever have to go through. A neurological condition has left the child in a “semi-vegetative” condition, such that a Liverpool hospital has said further treatment would be futile. Alfie’s parents did what every good parent would do and began to look into other options for his care, but the British government has hindered their efforts, saying he must die with dignity, effectively sentencing him to death.\n\nAlfie’s parents have expressed interest in taking the child to Italy for further treatment, and appealed to the UK’s court, but were unsuccessful. The UK has said that they, not the parents, know what is best for the infant and will not allow them to get him potentially-life-saving treatment. This fight will continue, and we must support this family’s efforts to do what is right.       "body": "![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmcnCKTGviHPUviTEvdFTRk7pH4APh8knkYdkxSzFNekuB/image.png)\nWith a state election due in Victoria in November 2018, with the issues of law and order and transport infrastructure being front and centre in most voters minds, the Andrews Labor Government is still obsessed with pandering to minority groups, which includes giving away vast sums of taxpayers’ money.\n\nThe Andrews Government’s Minister for Equality Martin Foley last week announced the latest round of Victorian LGBTI Grants worth a total of $700,000 going to 18 LGBT community organisations in Victoria. The grants program was introduced in 2016-17 and was allocated $4 million over four years. The stated aims of the program are to improve the organisational development of LGBT groups to Victoria and to foster the development of the next generation of LGBT community leaders.\n\nGroups that have benefited from these grants include the Human Rights Law Centre which received $40,000 in 2017-18, this is an organisation which spends a lot of its time demonizing the federal government’s policy of offshore processing of asylum seekers and complaining to the United Nations about our alleged human rights abuses.\n\nTransgender groups have also had a windfall from these programs with Transgender Victoria receiving $35,956 in 2017-18 and another transgender group Alphabet Soup received $60,201 in 2017-18. LGBT Sporting Organisations have also received special attention with the Pride Cup receiving $31,900 and Proud 2 Play receiving $19,949. There is also a whole suite of regional and ethnic LGBT groups which have received grants.\nEven LGBT lobby groups in the past have received government funds (which in turn lobby government for more laws/funds) including the Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby, Minus18 which helped develop the Safe Schools program and Living Positive Victoria which is described as an HIV organisation but whose main focus is on LGBT people. Gay pride festivals Midsumma and ChillOut which encompass sexualised content have also received grants.\n\nMost would not consider the existence of this grants program to be an essential function of government, in fact, many Victorians would not believe these are appropriate groups to fund at all. The Andrews’ Government over its time in government has also spent $15 million on an LGBT Pride Centre and $300,000 on a gay gaming app to fight homophobia.\nCertainly, if state governments cut funding to grants programs such as these, along with those of the arts and multicultural organisations, they might have a bit more money to build some desperately needed infrastructure. The State of Emergency started in July 2016 when a failed coup attempt led to the deaths of 300 people.\n\nWith his emergency powers, Erdogan and his government can enact new laws without the need to pass these through parliamentary approval. The emergency powers will also allow Erdogan to suspend civil rights and freedoms.\n\nThe business sector of Turkey has criticized the decision of Parliament to extend Erdogan’s emergency powers. Erdogan responded by saying that instead of criticizing him and the government, the business sector should thank them for keeping the economy afloat and the country safe:\n\n“The State of Emergency only affects terrorists. Now it’s preventing labour strikes such as the Bursa strike which we stopped right away. It’s a struggle against terrorism.\n\n“When our business people say the State of Emergency should be lifted, it upsets us. We will continue to extend it for the peace of our country, yes we will, for the tenth time if necessary.”\nOne of the stern provisions of Erdogan’s emergency powers is that he could authorize the government to shut down strikes, protests and other methods of civil disobedience.\n\nThe United Nations has strongly criticized the extension of Erdogan’s emergency powers. According to the UN, there have been reports of “massive and serious” human rights violations in South Eastern Turkey which is predominantly a Kurdish community. Some of the reports indicate acts of torture and killings.\nTurkey has denied the reports and said the emergency powers are a necessary to maintain peace and order in the country.\n\nErdogan likewise declared snap elections for the presidency and the Parliament this June. They included removing sexual orientation and gender identity from the Sex Discrimination Act, banning all Safe Schools resources and also allowing parents and others to use conversion therapy for unwanted same-sex attraction and gender dysphoria. The motions were quashed by State President Michael Kroger and Opposition Leader Matthew Guy which was a clear slap in the face to the conservative recruits in the party.\nThe Greens announced a new policy of legalizing recreation marijuana. It was resoundingly rejected by the major political parties and the mainstream media apart from the ABC. The fact that this policy proposal was so quickly shot down demonstrates there is not much public support for drug law reform in Australia, this is due to the fact Australian police take a measured approach to users as opposed to in the United States. There is also a controversy in Victoria over the Andrews’ Government’s proposed drug injected room, the Liberal Opposition has vowed to shut it down with Liberal MLC Bernie Finn even advocating for the death penalty for drug dealers.\nActing Prime Minister and new Nationals Leader Michael McCormack blabbed to the Daily Telegraph there would be lots of goodies and giveaways in the budget. This led to Treasurer Scott Morrison being dressed up as Santa Claus on their front page. Morrison then gave McCormack a blast over the phone and told the media he wasn’t Santa Claus. This led to the Telegraph the next day dressing Morrison up as Bad Santa. McCormack has clearly demonstrated he is out of his depth. Morrison is left with his budget strategy in ruins as he carefully tries to deliver what will be an election budget.\n\nThe Banking Royal Commission has uncovered grave levels of bank misconduct which include them giving clients the wrong advice, charging fees for advice not given and even charging the dead for advice. The corporate regulator ASIC was gamed as banks were able to easily mislead them and dodge investigations. Rogue Nationals MPs and Labor appear vindicated by their lobbying for a royal commission, Scott Morrison and the Government by trying to avoid calling one for so long now appear to have made a political misjudgment and are now talking tough on the banks.\nhttp://www.theunshackled.net/waves/145/",

Former Socialist US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders parroted the view that strong drug policy was racially motivated during debates, and he was by no means the only one saying this.\n\n“Fusion,” a far-left outlet that releases easy-to-digest videos of the horrible atrocities of US culture and government, released a video saying that drug-free school zones were racist. For context, these drug-free school zones make it illegal for the consumption of any controlled substance, even decriminalized ones, to be consumed within a certain radius of a school on public or private property. This, I believe, is the definition of a racist assertion.\n\nWe know by most statistics that, at least when it comes to soft drugs like marijuana, black, Latino, and white people seem to consume it in similar amounts, though arrests due to drug-related offenses are far higher among minorities. This is a nuanced issue with a lot of moving pieces, but essentially have more to do with policing, poverty, and crime than racial animus. However, in the eyes of leftists, the laws themselves are inherently racist.\n\nThis means leftists believe that people of colour are not capable of the intellectual or moral integrity to stay away from controlled substances, making them a vulnerable, incapable, drug-addicted group that can be put in jail cells by criminalizing an activity inherent to their nature. This is very good news for South Korea and the world – big progress! Look forward to our summit.”\n\n\n \nSouth Korea issued a statement applauding Kim’s decision:\n\n“It will create a very positive environment for the success of the upcoming inter-Korean and North-US summits.”\n\nKCNA reported that the decision was influenced by Kim’s belief that North Korea had reached its goal and that it was time for a change in direction:\n\n“The whole party and the whole party should now focus on the development of the socialist economy.
