The town is where the royals would vacation and is a castle filled dream. It is located about 30 minutes by car or 40 minutes by train from Praça do Rossio. We traveled there by Uber which cost about €25-30 when we were there. Our Uber driver was delightful. He helped us set our itinerary and gave us some background on what we were about to see. Our driver’s recommendation was to start our day at Quinta de Regaleira. Based on photos alone, this was a must see for me. The palace itself is small especially compared to the others in this city, but it makes up for that in spades with the fantastical grounds that are the key to this UNESCO heritage site. Beyond the palace there is a winding maze of paths and hidden tunnels. The most interesting spot on the grounds is the Initiation Well, photographed below. There are several tunnels that connect to this well. We had quite a bit of fun wandering about and ending up on different levels of the spiral. Even beyond the Initiation Well there’s so many hidden corners and spots around Quinta de Regaleira to get lost in. The last shot is from inside of the palace on the grounds. For us, it was lunchtime and we chose to go to Romaria de Baco for some delicious tapas. We got the alheira sausage croquettes with sesame seeds, vinagreta sauce mussels, and batatas fritas. There are buses or you can take an Uber up the winding roads. This palace is known for being an influence on the Disney Castle and it’s easy to see why. The palace is very colorful in red, yellow, and blue. It feels like it’s filled with magic. It sits at the peak of the rolling hills of Sintra and has some of the most stunning views around. The town is where the royals would vacation and is a castle filled dream. It is located about 30 minutes by car or 40 minutes by train from Praça do Rossio. We traveled there by Uber which cost about €25-30 when we were there. Our Uber driver was delightful. He helped us set our itinerary and gave us some background on what we were about to see. Our driver’s recommendation was to start our day at Quinta de Regaleira. Based on photos alone, this was a must see for me. The palace itself is small especially compared to the others in this city, but it makes up for that in spades with the fantastical grounds that are the key to this UNESCO heritage site. Beyond the palace there is a winding maze of paths and hidden tunnels. The most interesting spot on the grounds is the Initiation Well, photographed below. There are several tunnels that connect to this well. We had quite a bit of fun wandering about and ending up on different levels of the spiral. Even beyond the Initiation Well there’s so many hidden corners and spots around Quinta de Regaleira to get lost in. The last shot is from inside of the palace on the grounds. For us, it was lunchtime and we chose to go to Romaria de Baco for some delicious tapas. We got the alheira sausage croquettes with sesame seeds, vinagreta sauce mussels, and batatas fritas. bodyHi everyone! On to my next favorite restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal: Oficina Do Duque! This restaurant is in Chiado and it has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating was a major driving point for this cute restaurant. It's located on a winding walkway right off of Praça do Rossio. It was the perfect place to take in the warm Lisbon air and enjoy a delicious meal. We came here twice around the normal dinner time of 8pm and there was no wait. This is the oxtail, rocha pear and chicharos: shredded oxtail with pear puree and yellow split peas. This was Paul’s dish. This was seriously incredible. The mix of flavors was quite a surprise particularly the addition of the mint sorbet. The lamb was very tender and the mix of textures was delightful. This was seriously incredible.  The mix of flavors was quite a surprise particularly the addition of the mint sorbet.  The lamb was very tender and the mix of textures was delightful. bodyHi everyone! The idea to start blogging came about while I was traveling in Portugal. Let me start off by saying that the food scene in Lisbon is incredible! Also, oddly enough it was the small and less expensive places that really blew me away. The more well-known and/or expensive restaurants had good food too, but the service was lacking in comparison. Our absolute favorite restaurant in Lisbon was Tapa Bucho. It’s a small restaurant in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon and it’s quite literally some of the best food I’ve ever had. My fiancé and I loved it so much that despite the fact that we should have been trying new places we came back here 3 different times during our stay in Lisbon. It’s that irresistible. Quick tip: get here before 8pm if you want to be seated immediately otherwise you will likely wait outside for an hour for anyone to leave. ![IMG_5975 edit.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYuCtspSJW4CmuXqE7KxMxKc1FepoC5o3gWgYGhpGVYSa/IMG_5975%20edit.jpg) Now let’s get to some of the food. :D These are alheira croquettes. Alheira is a type of Portuguese sausage. The flavor is to die for. You can order these individually or as a plate of 5 like we did. The last time we went we ordered an extra croquette so we could each have 3. Splitting the last one wasn’t working for us. It is served on top of some spinach cooked with garlic and the sauce seen here. bodyHi everyone! The idea to start blogging came about while I was traveling in Portugal. Let me start off by saying that the food scene in Lisbon is incredible! Also, oddly enough it was the small and less expensive places that really blew me away. The more well-known and/or expensive restaurants had good food too, but the service was lacking in comparison. Our absolute favorite restaurant in Lisbon was Tapa Bucho. It’s a small restaurant in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon and it’s quite literally some of the best food I’ve ever had. My fiancé and I loved it so much that despite the fact that we should have been trying new places we came back here 3 different times during our stay in Lisbon. It’s that irresistible. Alheira is a type of Portuguese sausage. The flavor is to die for. You can order these individually or as a plate of 5 like we did. The last time we went we ordered an extra croquette so we could each have 3. Splitting the last one wasn’t working for us. It is served on top of some spinach cooked with garlic and the sauce seen here. The meat just melts in your mouth and I can’t stop saying how good the flavors are at this place! The sliced potatoes were fun to stack some oxtail on top and gorge myself on the delicious combination. This was well worth it. We did also try the Tapa Bucho salad – nice light salad, the prawns something something – shrimp in garlic sauce (but I forgot to take a picture!), and the Chocolat Delicious – also very good though a tad dry. Beyond the incredible food, this place had a great atmosphere. It’s small (maybe 14-16 person seating) but the wait staff was super friendly and like most places in Lisbon they do speak English, which is always helpful. A super plus to me is that they remembered us each time we went back! That was something I loved about Lisbon. The people were so friendly and inviting and this place was no exception. It’s small (maybe 14-16 person seating) but the wait staff was super friendly and like most places in Lisbon they do speak English, which is always helpful.  A super plus to me is that they remembered us each time we went back!  That was something I loved about Lisbon.  The people were so friendly and inviting and this place was no exception. bodyHi everyone! The idea to start blogging came about while I was traveling in Portugal. Let me start off by saying that the food scene in Lisbon is incredible! Also, oddly enough it was the small and less expensive places that really blew me away. The more well-known and/or expensive restaurants had good food too, but the service was lacking in comparison. Our absolute favorite restaurant in Lisbon was Tapa Bucho. It’s a small restaurant in the Bairro Alto district of Lisbon and it’s quite literally some of the best food I’ve ever had. My fiancé and I loved it so much that despite the fact that we should have been trying new places we came back here 3 different times during our stay in Lisbon. It’s that irresistible. Alheira is a type of Portuguese sausage. The flavor is to die for. You can order these individually or as a plate of 5 like we did. The last time we went we ordered an extra croquette so we could each have 3. Splitting the last one wasn’t working for us. It is served on top of some spinach cooked with garlic and the sauce seen here.
