Studies show that the effects of a bath were not as intense as a workout but that an hour in a hot bath did equate to a 30-minute walk and burns about 140 calories. Not only that, blood sugar response was better for the bathers than for the workout-ers. The bath also showed a higher anti-inflammatory response, meaning that your body is stronger and more able to fight off diseases and keep chronic inflammation at bay. Workout Pill for Weight loss: While this article clearly states that this pill is being released for people unable to workout, we all know it’s the next step to a workout pill so people don’t have to workout. The drug could produce similar effects of exercise such as more endurance and weight loss, without any real exercise in sight. The problem, of course, is that this new drug, like other pharmaceuticals, is likely to be abused if and when they do make it on the market. But the benefits of this drug, to people who truly cannot exercise, not just lazy people who crave instant satisfaction, may outweigh the risks. For instance, kids with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, who die in their teens from inactivity and muscle wasting, would no longer have to accept their short-lived fate. The potential life-saving pill could help people with acute kidney injury, side effects from cardio-bypass surgery and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, and anyone bound to a wheelchair. Ronald Evans is the director of the gene expression laboratory at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California. He concludes his findings with this, “People are designed to move. But if they can’t, it’s not healthy to be sedentary. That’s why we are developing this drug. We are trying to take science out of the laboratory and bring it into the clinic in a way that can change people’s lives. If we can do that, it would be a game-changer.” Hypnosis for Weight loss: As crazy as it sounds, hypnosis may be the way out of exercise and into good health. “Hypnosis can successfully ‘turn off’ cravings, end emotional eating, end self-sabotage, and help a person find the motivation to stay on track,” according to Holly Stokes. Stokes is a certified Hypnotherapist and Neuro-Linguistic Programming author who teaches and writes about hypnosis as a way to lose weight by a reprogramming of sorts. The biggest downside is cost, as each session is $100-$250 for an hour and most insurance companies don’t cover the cost. HCG for Weight loss: HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin and is a hormone produced in women during pregnancy. You take this hormone as part of the HCG diet but unless you are doing in through a doctor, your hCG supplements are not truly hCG. This diet does work, and you will lose weight, but it comes with a price. Not for faint of heart, hCG requires you stick to a very strict food list, that you must adhere to. Not only that but you are allowed only 500 calories a day. Yup, you read that right, 500 calories for your whole day. Most people consume more than that in one meal alone. Not only is this diet extremely restrictive but honestly, it’s unsafe. With such little calories and next to no “fat” intake, you stand to suffer from gallstones, irregular heartbeat, and electrolyte imbalance, not to mention crabbiness and hungriness for the length of your regimen. At the end of the day, there is no better replacement than eating right and exercising for a healthy lifestyle. But if you’d rather chill yourself or have someone hypnotize you, these plans may work just as well. |

| body |  The Hierarchy of Health If you don’t already know, we make our gains not during exercise but during rest time. Exercise is where we plant the seed, and during sleep and restfulness we reap the benefits. Of course, this means that the quality of our exercise is the start of the effect. Therefore, if we want to reap a rich harvest later on, it’d be wise to be fully prepared when sowing (exercising). To do this, I reference what I call the Hierarchy of Health. In simple terms, I break down aspects of healthy living into an order of importance. Here’s what it looks like in order: sleep, nutrition, no workout, energy builders, stretching, core function, functional exercise. When we follow this hierarchy of health we can stay in tune with our body’s energy levels so we can determine our optimal output during exercise, which will give us the most input (energy, vitality, strength, etc.) from an exercise. Get outdoors Exercising outdoors is possibly the greatest life hack I’ve ever come across for dramatically increasing your energy, vitality and health. Here are just a few of the many reasons to take your workouts outdoors for an ideal experience. First off, you will be incredibly more oxygenated exercising outdoors. One of the most important elements of a workout – if not the most important – is the breath. Not only does the breath govern our entire system as the ultimate regulator, our breath is what controls how oxygenated our bodies are. The more oxygen we have in our bodies, the higher our blood pH, and the more resilient we are to disease, free radical damage and aging. Because exercise can cause these things if we do it in excess, getting an oxygen overdose will dramatically reduce the negative side effects. This leaves us to reap the rewards with minimal side effects. Show some skin Next we have the sun. Many pro athletes, actors/actresses and other celebrities use something called hyperbaric oxygen chambers because they understand the importance of oxygen in healing the body and staying young. However, just take your workout outside for a treatment on the house courtesy of Mother Nature. Then you have the sun working in your favor – that is, if you work out on a sunny day. Even so, the sun is still making its way through the clouds and you’ll notice the difference. In short, the sun is the source of life for this physical planet. It is for you, too. We can survive without food and water for days. If the sun vanished, we’d vanish in no time flat. In particular, the sun is a source of vitamin D3, which is not just a vitamin but also a hormone. Getting ample amounts of it from the sun is like hijacking your hormones for the better. This universal truth applies just about everywhere. Why does it seem so hard to grasp, then? Well, take a look around; we live in a society that overvalues paper money and material possessions. No wonder so many people don’t understand, we’re on an elusive chase for fulfillment through a game of numbers. Here’s a secret no one told you: numbers never end. The same goes for fitness. The reps and hours can drag on; however, there always hits a point of diminishing returns. There is a sweet spot for everything in life, and it’s just about finding it and residing in it. Essentially, for fitness it’s always better to under-train than over-train. Why? Simple, the under-trained athlete or person is going to have reserves of energy. When you’re moving, imagine you were designing the most beautiful body, from the inside out. Take it one piece at a time, giving your full attention to the process. Be consistent, and most of all, enjoy yourself — which brings us to the last tip. Keep it fun If you really wish to get amazing results from your fitness routine, I suggest letting go a little. You can either have fun or struggle, there’s really no in between. And despite what the programming of your mind says, you can have fun. Who says it has to be fun to have fun? We decide what’s fun. When we do, our brain is flooded with feel-good, healing neurotransmitters that make exercise that much more effective. Throw the “no pain, no gain” mentality out the window and you’ll start to have a lot more fun when you move your body. Try new workouts, get friends to join you, explore new spots, whatever you have to do to make it fun. Your body will thank you with a more effective workout, faster healing and, of course, the immediate gratification! I leave you with a question: what are you training for? Really think about it. Do you want to just look a certain way or do you want to be able to use your body to its fullest potential? If you set your intentions on the latter, you may find it much easier to produce optimal results. Rather than a hurried, sloppy final product, adopting these principles will guide you down the path toward a fine-tuned, peak-performing body that you can enjoy for a lifetime. |

A new study published in the open-source journal Scientific Reports this week announced the discovery. It also details the pretty incredible way it was made. It all started off with NASA and the USGS' Landsat satellite, tasked with beaming images of our planet from space back to waiting scientists on Earth. SEE ALSO: Warming Antarctic may force over 1 million King Penguins to find new homes or perish Satellite photos taken in 2014 showed a significant amount of penguin poop on the Danger Islands, giving researchers a pretty good hint that a bunch of the adorable birds probably live there. "Until recently, the Danger Islands weren’t known to be an important penguin habitat," Heather Lynch, one of the authors of the new study, said in a statement. Scientists had thought that this type of penguin species was declining. "Not only do the Danger Islands hold the largest population of Adélie penguins on the Antarctic Peninsula, they also appear to have not suffered the population declines found along the western side of [the] Antarctic Peninsula that are associated with recent climate change," Michael Polito, another co-author, said in the statement. Scientists didn't know about the birds in large part because of how remote the Danger Islands are, making it difficult to try to count whatever birds might be there. Once the research team got confirmation via Landsat that the penguins likely populate the islands, they decided to try to make the trip and count the birds by hand. The team arrived in December 2015 and got to counting. The scientists also used a drone to photograph the area, looking for penguins. "The drone lets you fly in a grid over the island, taking pictures once per second. You can then stitch them together into a huge collage that shows the entire landmass in 2D and 3D," study author Hanumant Singh said in the statement. After gathering those photos, the scientists were able to use an algorithm to actually look for the penguins instead of searching for them by eye, pixel by pixel. Now that scientists know where the Adélie Penguins are, they can also work to protect them. The existence of the supercolony could bolster support for Marine Protected Areas around Antarctica.
