title10.000 hemp plants into 2800 lbs of clear oil and isolate
bodyhttps://youtu.be/QNjB_FiYCSs Myth: Hemp oil is a source of THC. “Reality: Hemp oil is an increasingly popular product, used for an expanding variety of purposes. The washed hemp seed contains no THC at all. “The tiny amounts of THC contained in industrial hemp are in the glands of the plant itself. Sometimes, in the manufacturing process, some THC- and CBD-containing resin sticks to the seed, resulting in traces of THC in the oil that is produced. The concentration of these cannabinoids in the oil is infinitesimal. No one can get high from using hemp oil.” (8) “The growth of hemp in the U.S. dwindled with the availability of cheaper imported fibers from Manila and the East India Company. “During [World] War II, however, the Japanese took possession of the Philippines and the East India Company, and since jute supply from India was also restricted, the Americans had to produce hemp once again, for industrial purposes as well as to sustain the vast demand from the army and navy, as follows: “Rope made from hemp was used in rigging, towing and mooring the ships “Surely no member of the vegetable kingdom has ever been more misunderstood than hemp. For too many years, emotion—not reason—has guided our policy toward this crop. And nowhere have emotions run hotter than in the debate over the distinction between industrial hemp and marijuana.” (5) Not a lot of other plants actually kill weeds, and most of them are overtaken by weeds, vines or some other type of invasive plant species. Hemp can apparently thrive without being overthrown by weeds or anything else, and this, along with its uncountable industrial benefits, makes it a good candidate for farmers. According to Care2, adding hemp seeds to our diet could give us more energy and vitality. “The protein and fiber in hemp combine to slow digestion, which prevents spikes in bloodsugar and therefore sustains your body’s energy. A diet rich in hemp promotes digestive regularity.” (11) Not only can they give us more energy – they can keep us full for a longer period of time. “When sprinkled on your cereal or fruit at breakfast, hemp protein and fiber also help aid in satiety, which will prevent you from snacking and keep you fuller longer.” (12) Hemp is one of the only plants with seeds that contain Omega 3, which can apparently keep Alzheimer’s away. Hemp seeds contain Omega 3 and Omega 6, which can keep our skin, hair and bones healthy. Their amino acids can also help us control our muscles and maintain our cells and organs. “The Omega-6 fatty acids in hemp stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and help the brain function. “Hemp seeds contain essential amino acids, which improves muscle control, mental function, and normal body maintenance of cells, muscle, tissues, and organs.” (14) Hemp seeds help the human body in all these ways, and yet, growing it still isn’t acceptable in the US. Its industrial benefits alone should cause us to reconsider our biased stance on it, and even if it weren’t for these benefits, the acids its seeds provide (which the body needs to stay healthy) should lead us to consider that this plant isn’t so bad. People are nothing if not judgmental, and all it takes is a few people in power telling us something’s bad for everyone to jump onboard. Most people will do little to no research on hemp, because they rely primarily on their governments, mainstream media, and general social conditioning to know if something’s ‘good’ or ‘bad’. In relying on society to tell us what’s right for us, we start to overlook things that’d benefit our planet greatly but pose a risk to corporations who make money off of the alternatives they’ve relentlessly pushed onto us. I think people need to wake up and educate themselves about hemp’s numerous benefits, and instead of immediately lumping it in with marijuana, which is itself lumped in with drugs that are much more dangerous, we can see that the two only have as much to do with each other as we let them. The degree to which we associate hemp with marijuana determines its true relation to the drug, and if we wanted to, we could keep the two completely separate and grow hemp by itself for purely industrial purposes. Plenty of people (and countries) already do, and there hasn’t been a spike in marijuana use in the countries who allow hemp to be grown industrially. If there were, you can bet the mainstream media would let us know. In time, the haze of confusion surrounding hemp and marijuana will clear, and we can start to see this plant for what it really is – a revolutionary godsend that could help the hurt economies of various nations, introduce jobs galore to countries that outsource employment to other, distant places, and bear seeds that help our bodies prosper.![HEMP9999.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdb7KeW4E1r6Sj7QiMvPAXvBshchLqJ1DMhxBBjtm4A3E/HEMP9999.jpg)![1526432483672_image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaYAHBtwGVnYG84Pm5Fcne2WB8AApx4yfpfdQpi21nRop/1526432483672_image.png)![IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZyQyNcMHB7nQCKGJGvw7jxCSq3NeFR1YRHCReeWoUccY/IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg)

"title": "10.000 hemp plants into 2800 lbs of clear oil and isolate",
"body": "https://youtu.be/QNjB_FiYCSs\n\nMyth: Hemp oil is a source of THC.\n“Reality: Hemp oil is an increasingly popular product, used for an expanding variety of purposes. The washed hemp seed contains no THC at all.\n“The tiny amounts of THC contained in industrial hemp are in the glands of the plant itself. Sometimes, in the manufacturing process, some THC- and CBD-containing resin sticks to the seed, resulting in traces of THC in the oil that is produced. The concentration of these cannabinoids in the oil is infinitesimal. No one can get high from using hemp oil.” (8)\n\n“The growth of hemp in the U.S. dwindled with the availability of cheaper imported fibers from Manila and the East India Company.\n“During [World] War II, however, the Japanese took possession of the Philippines and the East India Company, and since jute supply from India was also restricted, the Americans had to produce hemp once again, for industrial purposes as well as to sustain the vast demand from the army and navy, as follows:\n“Rope made from hemp was used in rigging, towing and mooring the ships\n\n“Surely no member of the vegetable kingdom has ever been more misunderstood than hemp. For too many years, emotion—not reason—has guided our policy toward this crop. And nowhere have emotions run hotter than in the debate over the distinction between industrial hemp and marijuana.” (5)\n\nNot a lot of other plants actually kill weeds, and most of them are overtaken by weeds, vines or some other type of invasive plant species. Hemp can apparently thrive without being overthrown by weeds or anything else, and this, along with its uncountable industrial benefits, makes it a good candidate for farmers.\nAccording to Care2, adding hemp seeds to our diet could give us more energy and vitality.\n“The protein and fiber in hemp combine to slow digestion, which prevents spikes in bloodsugar and therefore sustains your body’s energy. A diet rich in hemp promotes digestive regularity.” (11)\nNot only can they give us more energy – they can keep us full for a longer period of time.\n“When sprinkled on your cereal or fruit at breakfast, hemp protein and fiber also help aid in satiety, which will prevent you from snacking and keep you fuller longer.” (12)\nHemp is one of the only plants with seeds that contain Omega 3, which can apparently keep Alzheimer’s away.\n\nHemp seeds contain Omega 3 and Omega 6, which can keep our skin, hair and bones healthy. Their amino acids can also help us control our muscles and maintain our cells and organs.\n“The Omega-6 fatty acids in hemp stimulate skin and hair growth, maintain bone health, regulate metabolism, and help the brain function.\n“Hemp seeds contain essential amino acids, which improves muscle control, mental function, and normal body maintenance of cells, muscle, tissues, and organs.” (14)\nHemp seeds help the human body in all these ways, and yet, growing it still isn’t acceptable in the US. Its industrial benefits alone should cause us to reconsider our biased stance on it, and even if it weren’t for these benefits, the acids its seeds provide (which the body needs to stay healthy) should lead us to consider that this plant isn’t so bad.\nPeople are nothing if not judgmental, and all it takes is a few people in power telling us something’s bad for everyone to jump onboard. Most people will do little to no research on hemp, because they rely primarily on their governments, mainstream media, and general social conditioning to know if something’s ‘good’ or ‘bad’.\nIn relying on society to tell us what’s right for us, we start to overlook things that’d benefit our planet greatly but pose a risk to corporations who make money off of the alternatives they’ve relentlessly pushed onto us.\nI think people need to wake up and educate themselves about hemp’s numerous benefits, and instead of immediately lumping it in with marijuana, which is itself lumped in with drugs that are much more dangerous, we can see that the two only have as much to do with each other as we let them.\nThe degree to which we associate hemp with marijuana determines its true relation to the drug, and if we wanted to, we could keep the two completely separate and grow hemp by itself for purely industrial purposes.\nPlenty of people (and countries) already do, and there hasn’t been a spike in marijuana use in the countries who allow hemp to be grown industrially. If there were, you can bet the mainstream media would let us know.\nIn time, the haze of confusion surrounding hemp and marijuana will clear, and we can start to see this plant for what it really is – a revolutionary godsend that could help the hurt economies of various nations, introduce jobs galore to countries that outsource employment to other, distant places, and bear seeds that help our bodies prosper.![HEMP9999.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmdb7KeW4E1r6Sj7QiMvPAXvBshchLqJ1DMhxBBjtm4A3E/HEMP9999.jpg)![1526432483672_image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaYAHBtwGVnYG84Pm5Fcne2WB8AApx4yfpfdQpi21nRop/1526432483672_image.png)![IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZyQyNcMHB7nQCKGJGvw7jxCSq3NeFR1YRHCReeWoUccY/IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg)",

titleLiz Gehl is the founder and CEO of Gehl Search Partners
bodyLiz Gehl is the founder and CEO of Gehl Search Partners, a talent recruitment firm that specializes in finding qualified personnel for highly regulated industries with a focus on positions in sales, marketing, strategy and planning, compliance, finance, accounting, and administrative roles. We recently caught up with Liz for an interview about what makes a good cannabis industry employee and how her firm helps entrepreneurs find the right team. We hear a little about her process for cannabis industry recruitment, what lessons the cannabis industry ought to learn from other industries, and more! Read the full interview below. Ganjapreneur: Could you sum up the role that Gehl Search Partners takes on when you work with a cannabis company? Liz Gehl: We provide mid to senior level talent that can’t typically be found by posting a job ad or similar methods. We do our due diligence early in the process by building deep relationships with those we work with. The more we know about our client’s product or service and what drives them day in and day out, the more successful we are in our ability to represent their company in a meaningful way that resonates with the ‘right’ candidates. Our business has been and will continue to be very relationship driven. Our long-standing relationships have always been the best source of highly qualified talent for us. Talented people know other talented people and aren’t always willing to work for or with just anyone; they want to ensure there is a genuine sense of trust there. That when a recruiter is telling them about a company or role, it is not a sales pitch, more so a clear picture of what it will be like to work there. Spending over 10 years cultivating these relationships in multiple industries allows us to know the right people, or, know the right strategy in attracting them quickly. As barbaric as the term may sound, we truly are headhunters. When did you decide to begin working with cannabis companies? Shortly after opening my firm. Personally, I’ve been a medicinal cannabis patient for many years. I’ve never fit the stigma of what a “marijuana patient” was. I’ve always been a very driven woman working in human resources and recruiting. Passionate about the benefits of cannabis and knowing that there are a lot of other driven and professional men and women out there working in various industries who are afraid to speak up due to the risk of losing their job or feeling judged, I feel that it is important to continue to bring that level of professionalism into the cannabis industry. The amount of incredibly intelligent people already working in cannabis is astounding. The general public needs to see more of that. Also, by bringing in talent from outside industries to the cannabis industry, I feel that we will be able to grow the industry at a far more rapid rate. What sorts of qualities do you think are especially important for somebody to work in the cannabis industry? I personally think that those who are most successful and happy in their jobs are those who have a true passion for the benefits of the plant. Regardless of what many think, this is not an industry to work in if you want to get rich quick. It is still somewhat volatile. Rules and regulations continue to change, as we all know, so being nimble, resiliant, and adaptable are some of the key attributes we look for. In general, what’s the most difficult part of finding talent for the cannabis space — and what’s the easiest part? I’ll start with what is most challenging; many companies are still in startup mode so salary ranges are lower than they are for other industries (in most cases). Candidates, many times feel that there is a ton of money in the cannabis industry. I spend a lot of time counseling candidates on their salary expectations; digging through to find those who really want to be a part of building a business, not just for the monetary gain, but for the experience. The easiest part is finding passionate, intelligent, down to earth people who truly want to make a difference. Many times, the empathy and sense of community shines through when you are speaking to those who have worked in the industry for a long time. What are some of the biggest misconceptions about the hiring/talent hunting process? The biggest misconception by hiring companies I’ve found is that relatives or friends make the best employees. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes this does work out, however, the most successful companies in any industry are those who hire a diverse employee base; employees who bring varying skill sets and who think differently than those who are directly and personally involved in the decision making process. Personal relationships are tough enough, but throw in a supervisor/subordinate type of reporting structure and things can get really squirrely. Senior leaders who aren’t afraid to challenge ownership and bring new out of the box ideas, most frequently come from outside of their inner circle. The risk of losing a friend isn’t there, thus the focus is solely on growing revenue and market share and doing what is best for the company’s long term strategy. What would you say are the most important factors behind an executive’s placement in cannabis? For the candidate, the understanding that this is not an industry where you will get rich quick, at least not for most of us. In my experience, I’ve found that those who truly believe in the benefits of cannabis and want to be part of building something big, even if it goes against the status quo, are most successful. I’ve had candidates take significant pay cuts in salary with the understanding that they are on the forefront of a new industry and they are willing to take a calculated risk in order to progress the industry forward and hope that their career will as well. Most are granted substantial amounts of equity, but that is a risk. Obviously given what I do for a living, I understand this is a tough choice for many. We spend a significant amount of time getting to know our candidates to ensure this life decision is one that is comfortable to them, and the “risk” makes sense in the long term strategy of their career goals. With the client or hiring companies, we do the same due diligence; does this company have a clear goal and path to success? Is it a sustainable company where growth and profitability are not only achievable but likely? Once I am confident that all of the above align, a successful candidate/client match is easily found, and it is a long term fit rather than a quick fix. What lessons can the cannabis industry learn from other highly regulated industries you work in? The largest lesson, in my opinion, is that compliance is incredibly important in all aspects of your business. There are so many parallels with the alcohol industry and compliance is a big one. There are varying laws in each state from distribution to delivery (or direct to consumer) to what is considered “safe” growing or manufacturing practices. Given that cannabis is held to the most strict compliance laws we have ever seen, I think the two industries can learn an incredible amount from each other. Why should the cannabis we consume be held to stricter guidelines for safety than the beer we drink? By collaborating I think both industries can bring the transparency necessary to progress forward collaboratively rather than competitively. What’s your advice for somebody who wants to be discovered and hired in the cannabis industry? Reach out and build connections! Educate yourself if you are brand new to cannabis, regardless if you are a consumer or not, the education will pay off as there is so much for all of us to learn. Set yourself apart if you are a consumer. There are many, many cannabis consumers out there who are dreaming of a job where there can smoke or vape at work. Show who you are as a professional, what skills you have that bring value to the company and the industry, what you can do to help the industry out of the shadows of the “stoner” culture. That is what my clients are looking for-incredibly talented, skilled professionals who don’t necessarily fit the pot head stereotype, but have a deep understanding of the plant and its benefits. titleSt. Louis to Stop Prosecution of Cannabis Possession Under 100 Grams
bodySt. Louis to Stop Prosecution of Cannabis Possession Under 100 Grams Pat Beggan 6/14/2018 paul sableman ![IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZyQyNcMHB7nQCKGJGvw7jxCSq3NeFR1YRHCReeWoUccY/IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg) St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner, in an email sent to her staff Tuesday, said her office will no longer prosecute typical possession charges for less than 100 grams of cannabis, according to a report by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. This step is the city’s next towards full decriminalization following a decision earlier this year by the St. Louis’ Board of Aldermen to cut the penalty for possessing small amounts of cannabis from up to $500 for 35 grams or less to $25 for the same amount. “Today, after reviewing our data relating to drug possession cases, I have determined that these cases are hampering our ability to administer justice for the people of the city of St. Louis.” — Kim Gardner, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch In the email to staff, Gardner said that her chief warrant officer and team leaders would evaluate every cannabis possession offense for less than 100 grams. If there were no “aggravating circumstances,” the case would be dismissed. Gardner also said that she would review other drug possession or paraphernalia cases and decide if they will be dismissed or placed into a diversion program. The decision is controversial. Several people involved with the St. Louis Police Department have taken issue with Gardner’s edict. Schron Jackson, a spokesperson for the St. Louis Police, said officers will “continue to enforce the Missouri Controlled Substances Laws as they are written,” according to The Associated Press.![signal-2017-08-06-223816.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmb2jRMvZkWpVGQpt1akBQFXtntTVaadKbUK9a4BhrDoLL/signal-2017-08-06-223816.jpg)

titleU.S. House Committee Rejects Cannabis Banking Measure Pat Beggan 6/14/2018 pictures of money
bodyU.S. House Committee Rejects Cannabis Banking Measure Pat Beggan 6/14/2018 pictures of money Wednesday, the U.S. House of Representatives’ Appropriations Committee voted down a measure designed to protect banking institutions that are willing to work with cannabis businesses, according to a Forbes report by Tom Angell. The measure would have stopped the Treasury Department from penalizing a financial institution solely for doing business with a company in the cannabis industry, giving banks assurances from the federal government that they wouldn’t be closed down. It was defeated in a voice vote during the session. Rep. David Joyce (R-Ohio) was the primary sponsor of the amendment. Joyce said the issue at hand for the amendment is not about cannabis, but rather public safety and financial transparency. Several other Republican supporters of the bill were absent for debate, weakening Joyce’s ability to have a formal roll call tally for the amendment. Following the measure’s defeat, Joyce attempted to write a version of the amendment focused on medical cannabis instead but, after insufficient support and several calls for removal, Joyce withdrew the second attempt at an amendment.

titleJune 10, 2018 New Hampshire Governor Signs Bill Increasing The Number Of Dispensaries Allowed In The State Anthony Martinelli
bodyJune 10, 2018 New Hampshire Governor Signs Bill Increasing The Number Of Dispensaries Allowed In The State Anthony Martinelli![IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZyQyNcMHB7nQCKGJGvw7jxCSq3NeFR1YRHCReeWoUccY/IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg) New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu (R) has signed into law legislation that expands the number of medical cannabis dispensaries allowed to operate in the state. In New Hampshire, the state’s first medical cannabis dispensary opened in April, 2016, with three others opening shortly after. Despite the state having a population of over 1.3 million, New Hampshire’s strict medical cannabis law doesn’t allow for more than these four dispensaries. Senate Bill 388, signed by Governor Sununu last week, allows for up to four additional dispensaries (which is still far from ideal, but a step in the right direction nevertheless). According to the official text of the measure; “If the department determines that having additional locations for the dispensing of therapeutic cannabis is necessary to adequately and effectively meet the needs of qualifying patients and designated caregivers, the department may authorize the alternative treatment center allowed to operate in the geographic area that includes Carroll, Coos, and Grafton counties, not including the town of Hanover and the city of Lebanon in Grafton county, to establish a second dispensary location within that same geographic area.” In addition, “the department may authorize the alternative treatment center allowed to operate in the geographic area that includes Cheshire and Sullivan counties and the town of Hanover and the city of Lebanon in Grafton county to establish a second dispensary location within that same geographic area. A second dispensary location shall only be established in a geographic location approved by the department, shall be limited solely to the dispensing of cannabis and educational efforts, and shall not be used for cultivation or other activities relative to the production of cannabis.” The new law takes effect 60 days after being signed (which happened on June 4).

titleJune 11, 2018 Study: Cannabinoids May Help Protect Blood-Brain Barrier After Intracerebral Hemorrhage Anthony Martinelli
bodyJune 11, 2018 Study: Cannabinoids May Help Protect Blood-Brain Barrier After Intracerebral Hemorrhage Anthony Martinelli![signal-2017-06-25-140434.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmSk7VzY3i7xFycu6beG6P8xEpCReNGY6Diwey4nPUEGje/signal-2017-06-25-140434.jpg) Cannabinoids may alleviate neuroinflammation and protect the blood-brain barrier following an intracerebral hemorrhage, according to a new study published by the journal Brain Research. “The blood-brain barrier (BBB) disruption and the following development of brain edema, is the most life-threatening secondary injury after intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH)”, states the study’s abstract. “This study is to investigate a potential role and mechanism of JWH133, a selected cannabinoid receptor type2 (CB2R) agonist [meant to mimic the effects of natural cannabinoids], on protecting blood-brain barrier integrity after ICH.” According to StrokeCenter.org, intracerebral hemorrhage “occurs when a diseased blood vessel within the brain bursts, allowing blood to leak inside the brain.” For the study, 192 adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into multiple groups who received either varying levels of the CB2 agonist, or none. They found that the agonist “ameliorated brain edema, neurological deficits and blood-brain barrier damage, as well as microglia activation”, in addition to other positive changes. The study concludes by stating that “CB2R agonist alleviated neuroinflammation and protected blood-brain barrier permeability in a rat ICH model.”

titleJune 12, 2018 Colorado: $124 Million In Legal Marijuana Sold In April Anthony Martinelli
bodyJune 12, 2018 Colorado: $124 Million In Legal Marijuana Sold In April Anthony Martinelli![DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTQ2ahCwEeF54vfVDSkhNizag2CTeZWYsyWt9bpeNS4gF/DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg) According to new data released by the Colorado Department of Revenue, there was over $124 million in marijuana and marijuana products sold in April. The $124.31 million in legal marijuana sold in April is a slight increase over the total for April, 2017, which was $124.27 million. April’s totals are down from March, which was a record-setting month with $135,183,956 in marijuana and marijuana products sold. Of the $124 million sold in April, less than $30 million came from medical cannabis sales, with the remainder coming from the sale of recreational marijuana. The new data brings the state’s total marijuana sales for 2018 to around $490 million. This puts Colorado on track to sell around $1.5 billion in legal marijuana for 2018, which would be on par with the $1.5 billion sold in 2017 (there was $1.3 billion sold the year prior). In Colorado, licensed marijuana retail outlets are authorized to sell up to an ounce of marijuana to anyone 21 and older. These outlets are also allowed to sell marijuana products such as edibles and topicals, as well as marijuana plants and seeds. The first outlet opened in 2014.![IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZyQyNcMHB7nQCKGJGvw7jxCSq3NeFR1YRHCReeWoUccY/IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg)![signal-2017-08-06-223816.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmb2jRMvZkWpVGQpt1akBQFXtntTVaadKbUK9a4BhrDoLL/signal-2017-08-06-223816.jpg)![1526432483672_image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaYAHBtwGVnYG84Pm5Fcne2WB8AApx4yfpfdQpi21nRop/1526432483672_image.png)

Senate Bill 197 was passed yesterday by Delaware’s Senate in a unanimous 20 to 0 vote, with one member abstaining. According to the measure’s synopsis, “This Act provides mandatory expungement eligibility to individuals who were convicted of the possession, use or consumption of marijuana prior to Delaware’s decriminalization of these offenses.” To be eligible for the mandatory expungement, “the marijuana conviction must be the applicant’s only criminal conviction.” The legislation was introduced by Senate Minority Whip Greg Lavelle (R), and House Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst (D). It will now go to the House of Represenatives, where passage would send it to John Carney for consideration. According to date collected by the Delaware Criminal Justice Information System, Senate Bill 197 would effect around 1,200 individuals charges with possession of up to an ounce of marijuana prior to 2015 when it was decriminalized.

It will now go to the House of Represenatives, where passage would send it to John Carney for consideration.\n\n\nAccording to date collected by the Delaware Criminal Justice Information System, Senate Bill 197 would effect around 1,200 individuals charges with possession of up to an ounce of marijuana prior to 2015 when it was decriminalized.",

The Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry voted 20 to 1 earlier today to pass the 2018 Farm Bill, which includes a provision that would explicitly legalize industrial hemp across the United States. The provision was included by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R). “I think it’s time we took this step,” McConnell said before the committee’s vote. “I think everybody has now figured it out that this is not the other plant”. McConnell noted that “It’s a landmark piece of legislation that will benefit farmers and communities throughout our country.” It’s unclear if the full Senate will pass the Farm Bill with the hemp legalization provision included, but there’s a better chance than ever now that it has bipartisan support including being supported by both the Senate majority and Senate minority leaders.![1526432483672_image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmaYAHBtwGVnYG84Pm5Fcne2WB8AApx4yfpfdQpi21nRop/1526432483672_image.png)

bodyJune 14, 2018 Oregon Brings In Nearly $9 Million In Taxes From Legal Marijuana In April Anthony Martinelli![signal-2017-06-23-164549.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmQfYcJbvLr31YVhDxGxUwy4XuZZRivZKYASiJKj4vrbD9/signal-2017-06-23-164549.jpg) Oregon made nearly $9 million in taxes from legal marijuana sales in April. According to Oregon’s Department of Revenue, the state garnered $8,868,932 in marijuana sales taxes in April of this year. This marks an over 70% increase from April, 2017, when the state brought in a little over $5 million in marijuana taxes. Of the $8.8 million in taxes garnered in April, the vast majority – $7.6 million – came from Oregon’s 17% state tax on marijuana. The remaining $1.2 million came from local taxes, which can be up to 3%. Based in the new figures for April, Oregon is on tract to garner around $100 million in marijuana taxes for 2018, which would be a large increase from the $68.6 million the state made in 2017. In Oregon the possession of up to an ounce of marijuana is legal for those 21 and older, who can buy the plant and products made from it at licensed marijuana retail outlets.![DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTQ2ahCwEeF54vfVDSkhNizag2CTeZWYsyWt9bpeNS4gF/DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg)

The purpose of the study, which was also published by the journal Biology of Sex Differences, was to ” investigate the association between cannabis use and suicide attempts in men and women with psychiatric disorders.” To do so researchers “employed a multivariable logistic regression to assess the association between cannabis use and suicide attempts in men and women with psychiatric disorders.” Researchers analyzed data from 465 men and 444 women. Amongst these, 112 men and 158 women had attempted suicide. The average age of our participants was 40 years. “We found no significant association between suicide attempts and cannabis use in men or women”, states the study. “Our findings indicate that there is no association between cannabis use and suicidal behavior in men or women with psychiatric disorders”. The study concludes by noting that “The impact of cannabis use in psychiatric disorders needs ongoing examination in light of its common use, impending legalization with expected increased access and the uncertainty about cannabis‘ effects on prognosis of psychiatric disorders. In addition, research should continue to investigate modifiable risk factors of SB in this population of which cannabis is not a significant factor based on this study.”![DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTQ2ahCwEeF54vfVDSkhNizag2CTeZWYsyWt9bpeNS4gF/DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg)

titleune 11, 2018 Study: Cannabinoids May Help Protect Blood-Brain Barrier After Intracerebral Hemorrhage Anthony Martinelli
bodyJune 11, 2018 Study: Cannabinoids May Help Protect Blood-Brain Barrier After Intracerebral Hemorrhage Anthony Martinelli![signal-2017-08-06-223816.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmb2jRMvZkWpVGQpt1akBQFXtntTVaadKbUK9a4BhrDoLL/signal-2017-08-06-223816.jpg) Cannabinoids may alleviate neuroinflammation and protect the blood-brain barrier following an intracerebral hemorrhage, according to a new study published by the journal Brain Research. The study concludes by stating that “CB2R agonist alleviated neuroinflammation and protected blood-brain barrier permeability in a rat ICH model.”![DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmTQ2ahCwEeF54vfVDSkhNizag2CTeZWYsyWt9bpeNS4gF/DQmWHZRiunEMjsiXZY39iLskbYHb2xLuUoi5sa6Y82kvro6_1680x8400.jpeg)![1526427293874_image.png](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmU5J332CXEMUpVjRniJ2hFg6JRjF8ZxpKFZrPwJYCYGfN/1526427293874_image.png)![IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg](https://cdn.steemitimages.com/DQmZyQyNcMHB7nQCKGJGvw7jxCSq3NeFR1YRHCReeWoUccY/IMG_20180502_080700_01.jpg)
