| author | texas-crypto |
| body | Bitmain confirmed public reports, [including by the Texas Crypto Alliance](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/2018/07/23/tiny-texas-town-strikes-bitcoin-gold-mine/), that they are setting up a massive crypto mining facility outside of Rockdale, Texas. Construction has already started and will finish in the fourth quarter of 2018, with operations starting in early 2019. In a press release Bitmain confirmed the launch of its newest data center and provided figures on the economic impact on the area. Bitmain will invest over $500 million in the initial period of seven years and create over 400 local jobs. Bitmain will become a local taxpayer to the county, school districts, State of Texas, and other local taxing entities. According to the press release Bitmain “plans to partner with the local schools and educational institutions to provide professional and technical training programs that would prepare members of the community for careers with the data center.” Milam County has a population of 24,372, a median household income of $39,213, and a poverty rate of 15.5%. The economy of Milam County employs 9,260 people. Bitmain will add 400 good paying jobs to Milam County in about two years, over a 4% increase of jobs from a single company. The Texas Crypto Alliance applauds Milam County and the City of Rockdale for working with Bitmain to earn their business and the huge economic development that comes with it. The State of Texas needs to take a page out of Milam County’s book and seriously consider becoming the go to place for crypto miners and the crypto industry as a whole. Texas brags about being “Open for Business” and it is time that applied to the booming crypto industry. Bitmain is currently hiring positions based in Rockdale and expect more job openings to be posted as the facility gets closer to opening in early 2019. |

The economy of Milam County employs 9,260 people. Bitmain will add 400 good paying jobs to Milam County in about two years, over a 4% increase of jobs from a single company.\n\nThe Texas Crypto Alliance applauds Milam County and the City of Rockdale for working with Bitmain to earn their business and the huge economic development that comes with it. The State of Texas needs to take a page out of Milam County’s book and seriously consider becoming the go to place for crypto miners and the crypto industry as a whole. Texas brags about being “Open for Business” and it is time that applied to the booming crypto industry.\n\nBitmain is currently hiring positions based in Rockdale and expect more job openings to be posted as the facility gets closer to opening in early 2019.",

| body | Rockdale, Texas just struck a Bitcoin gold mine. Rockdale is a small town in a rural county in central Texas and is the new location of a Bitmain cryptocurrency mining operation. It is located at the site of shuttered Alcoa aluminum smelter, on the outskirts of Rockdale. When the Alcoe smelter closed it cost the county hundreds of much needed jobs. The local paper the Rockdale Reporter is heralding this as “The Happy Days are Here Again.” Earlier this month the Texas Crypto Alliance wrote about commercial crypto miners increased interest setting up locations in the United States and Texas, and now we are happy to welcome Bitmain and the 300-500 long term, well paying jobs it will create to Texas! The Alcoa site that Bitmain is re-purposing for crypto mining is massive and we can expect a large scale operation there, with room to grow. Bitmain is re-purposing the old Alcoa potlines that are contained in the expansive rows of warehouses in the pictures below. The facility also contains the heavy duty electrical infrastructure needed for a large crypto mining operation. Bitmain has public job postings for the crypto mining facility in Milam County, including for a Project Manager and a Data Center Site Manager. These are high paying jobs and is just a taste of what is to come. According to the census Milam County has a population of about 24,000 people and a median household income of $33,186, and the median income for a family was $40,431. About 12.20% of families and 15.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 21.80% of those under age 18 and 15.30% of those age 65 or over. Bitmain and crypto mining will bring much needed jobs and growth to Milam County, and the Texas Legislature and local officials should fully embrace the economic benefits of the crypto industry. Thank you Milam County and the City of Rockdale for leading the way. |

| body | The [Texas State Securities Board](https://www.ssb.texas.gov/) took emergency action on July 11, 2018 to stop a network of companies from fraudulently offering cryptocurrency and crypto mining investments to Texas residents. The State Securities Board is responsible for administering and enforcing the Texas Securities Act and its mission is to protect investors, while not placing unreasonable burdens on legitimate capital-raising activities. The agency seeks to encourage capital formation, job formation, free and competitive securities markets and minimize burdens on issuers and persons subject to the Act, especially small businesses. Per the Texas State Securities Board the companies targeted in the Emergency Cease and Desist Order are controlled by **Darren Olayan** of Lehi, Utah, and are based in Utah. They consist of: **Mintage Mining LLC**, which is illegally and fraudulently issuing and offering two different investments in the mining of cryptocurrencies; **Symatri LLC,** which issued a new cryptocurrency called Kala and, with Mintage Mining, is offering investors the opportunity to own and possess pre-configured computer hardware to mine Kala; **NUI Social**, a multi-level marketing company that purports to have more than 300,000 members in 140 countries. NUI recruits individuals for the cryptocurrency investments, with some of its “members” eligible to earn commissions for the people they recruit. The order also names **Wyatt McCullough**, who maintains an addresses in Houston -- at an office park at 5829 West Sam Houston Parkway—and is affiliated with NUI Social. McCullough and a third individual named in the order, **William Douglas Whetsell,** are publishing advertisements targeting Texas residents. The advertisements claim that Mintage can generate extraordinary returns—up to 250% annually—by successfully mining cryptocurrencies. **This is a good thing.** The Texas State Securities Board should continue to crack down on fraudulent cryptocurrencies investments, while allowing the legitimate crypto businesses operate like any other legally operating business in Texas |

| body | Texas is an attractive market for commercial cryptocurrency miners due to low energy prices, deregulated energy market, and a very [business friendly](https://www.cnbc.com/2018/07/10/texas-is-americas-top-state-for-business-according-to-cnbc-exclusive.html) climate. [TMGCore](https://tmgcore.com/tmgcore-building-enterprise-scale-crypto-mining-facility-in-heart-of-texas/) has taken advantage of this competitive edge and announced plans to lauch a $60 million crypto mining operation in Plano, Texas. This project will build a 150,000 square feet facility that is capable of a 100 megawatt live power load. This will be one of the largest independently owned mining operation in the United States. TMGCore worked with an affiliate of Houston-based real estate investment firm Pinchal & Company, LLC. to develop the deal. To understand the vast scale of this Texas based 100 megawatt crypto mining operation, consider that a 100 megawatts solar plant will generate enough electricity to power over 35,000 homes for a year. Additionally, The Bitcoin Exchange Guide News Team [reported](https://bitcoinexchangeguide.com/bitmain-developing-mining-facilities-in-the-us/) that cryptocurrency miner Bitmain, the most dominate crpyto mining company on the global market, is in the process of sourcing and developing crpyto mining facilities in the United States with a goal of investing $100 million into US based facilities. Will Bitmain follow TMGCore’s path and come to Texas? If you are a small miner or hobbyist (I use [Honeyminer](https://honeyminer.com/referred/58o1k)), Texas is also an attractive market. Retail electric users have the same benefits that commercial operations have and you can take advantage of the [Power to Choose](http://www.powertochoose.org/) website. Power to Choose is the official and unbiased electric choice website of the Public Utility Commission of Texas. This website is available to all electric providers to list their offers for free. Consumers can compare offers and choose the electric plan that’s a good fit. Using the Power to Choose website today I found pricing as low as 2.6 cents per 1,000 kWh for my service area. Another benefit to crypto miners in Texas is using utility token [Grid+](https://gridplus.io/) to reduce your electric bill. Grid+ develops hardware and software solutions to bring next-generation efficiencies to energy markets and is based in Austin, Texas and is rolling out their [alpha launch](https://blog.gridplus.io/alphaprogram-9facd68c76a0) to select Texas customers in Q3 2018. Crpyto miners like Michael McKee (Over 314,000 followers on twitter) are [realizing the potential](https://twitter.com/MichaelcMcKee/status/1016985240051560449) Texas offers crypto miners and are considering moving their mining operations to Texas. Lets hope this trend continues! |

| body | The United States Congress formed the [Congressional Blockchain Caucus in the 114th Congress](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/2018/07/07/congressional-blockchain-caucus-why-doesnt-texas-have-one/) (2015-2016) as a bi-partisan group of members of Congress and staff who are working to advance blockchain technology in the United States. Why doesn’t the Texas Legislature have a [“Txlege Crypto Caucus?"](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/txlege-crypto-caucus/) The Congressional Blockchain Caucus is Co-Chaired by Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) and Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ). The caucus is made up of 18 members evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. Only one Texan is a member of Congressional Blockchain Caucus, Republican Congressman Michael McCaul from Austin. The Congressional Blockchain Caucus is focused on three key areas: GOVERNMENT APPLICATIONS :The Congressional Blockchain Caucus is first and foremost interested in how blockchain technology can improve government services DATA OWNERSHIP : Identity and personal data are nowadays synonymous with fraud and hacking. Blockchain technology poses a solution to identity management, giving an individual ownership of their identity HEALTHCARE : From smart contracts all the way to patient records, blockchain technology offers increased security and ease of use The Congressional Blockchain Caucus is promoting “a hands-off regulatory approach, believing that this technology will best evolve the same way the internet did; on its own.” This is great news for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Some in this space think that blockchain and cryptocurrencies can survive and thrive without the government, or despite the government. Others, like the Texas Crypto Alliance, are trying to work with like minded elected officials and promote a hands off regulatory approach. Do you support the Texas Legislature (#TxLege) forming a [“TxLege Crypto Caucus”](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/txlege-crypto-caucus/) to support the development of the blockchain and cryptocurrencies industries in Texas? If so, please contact your elected Texas State Senator and Representative and ask them to support the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries in Texas. You know who your elected officials are right…if not use this form to find out who represents you and make a point to get to know them. Ask them to meet you for coffee or schedule a visit to their district office, and politely educate them and their staff on cryptocurrencies and blockchain. The Legislature of the state of Texas is a bicameral body composed of a 31-member Senate and a 150-member House of Representatives. The state legislature meets at the Capitol in Austin once every two years for 140 days. The 86th Texas Legislative session starts on the second Tuesday of January 2019. Congressional Blockchain Caucus Co-Chairs Jared Polis (D-CO) David Schweikert (R-AZ) Congressional Blockchain Caucus Members Congressman John Delaney (D-MD) Congressman Stephen Lynch (D-MA) Congressman Michael McCaul (R-TX) Congressman Tom Emmer (R-MN) Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) Congressman Denny Heck (D-WA) Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) Congressman Keith Rothfus (R-PA) Congressman Tony Cardenas (D-CA) Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus Congressman Darren Soto (D-FL) Congressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC) Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-CA) Congressman Tom MacArthur (R-NJ) Congressman John Larson (D-CT) Congressman Greg Gianforte (R-MT) |

"body": "The United States Congress formed the [Congressional Blockchain Caucus in the 114th Congress](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/2018/07/07/congressional-blockchain-caucus-why-doesnt-texas-have-one/) (2015-2016) as a bi-partisan group of members of Congress and staff who are working to advance blockchain technology in the United States. Why doesn’t the Texas Legislature have a [“Txlege Crypto Caucus?\"](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/txlege-crypto-caucus/)\n\n\n\nThe Congressional Blockchain Caucus is Co-Chaired by Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) and Congressman David Schweikert (R-AZ). The caucus is made up of 18 members evenly split between Republicans and Democrats. Only one Texan is a member of Congressional Blockchain Caucus, Republican Congressman Michael McCaul from Austin.\n\nThe Congressional Blockchain Caucus is focused on three key areas:\n\nGOVERNMENT APPLICATIONS :The Congressional Blockchain Caucus is first and foremost interested in how blockchain technology can improve government services\n\nDATA OWNERSHIP : Identity and personal data are nowadays synonymous with fraud and hacking. Blockchain technology poses a solution to identity management, giving an individual ownership of their identity\n\n HEALTHCARE : From smart contracts all the way to patient records, blockchain technology offers increased security and ease of use\n\n\nThe Congressional Blockchain Caucus is promoting “a hands-off regulatory approach, believing that this technology will best evolve the same way the internet did; on its own.” This is great news for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology.\n\nSome in this space think that blockchain and cryptocurrencies can survive and thrive without the government, or despite the government. Others, like the Texas Crypto Alliance, are trying to work with like minded elected officials and promote a hands off regulatory approach.\n\nDo you support the Texas Legislature (#TxLege) forming a [“TxLege Crypto Caucus”](https://texascryptoalliance.wordpress.com/txlege-crypto-caucus/) to support the development of the blockchain and cryptocurrencies industries in Texas?\n\nIf so, please contact your elected Texas State Senator and Representative and ask them to support the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries in Texas. You know who your elected officials are right…if not use this form to find out who represents you and make a point to get to know them. Ask them to meet you for coffee or schedule a visit to their district office, and politely educate them and their staff on cryptocurrencies and blockchain.\n\nThe Legislature of the state of Texas is a bicameral body composed of a 31-member Senate and a 150-member House of Representatives. The state legislature meets at the Capitol in Austin once every two years for 140 days. The 86th Texas Legislative session starts on the second Tuesday of January 2019.\n\nCongressional Blockchain Caucus Co-Chairs\nJared Polis (D-CO)\nDavid Schweikert (R-AZ)\n\nCongressional Blockchain Caucus Members\nCongressman John Delaney (D-MD)\nCongressman Stephen Lynch (D-MA)\nCongressman Michael McCaul (R-TX)\nCongressman Tom Emmer (R-MN)\nCongressman Bill Foster (D-IL)\nCongressman Denny Heck (D-WA)\nCongressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA)\nCongressman Keith Rothfus (R-PA)\nCongressman Tony Cardenas (D-CA)\nCongressman Mark Meadows (R-NC) and Chairman of the House Freedom Caucus\nCongressman Darren Soto (D-FL)\nCongressman Jeff Duncan (R-SC)\nCongressman Jerry McNerney (D-CA)\nCongressman Tom MacArthur (R-NJ)\nCongressman John Larson (D-CT)\nCongressman Greg Gianforte (R-MT)",
