This small community has played a significant role in the development of the state of Texas, and its story is one worth exploring.\n\nSituated on the banks of the Brazos River, Bailey's Prairie was first settled by William Bailey in 1835. Bailey was a veteran of the Battle of San Jacinto, and he and his fellow settlers were instrumental in forming Fort Bend County. The community continued to grow and prosper, and by 1860 it had become one of the largest settlements in Texas.\n\nIn subsequent years, Bailey's Prairie would be home to a variety of businesses and industries, including a cotton gin, gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop. The population would also swell with the arrival of new residents fleeing the Civil War.
