Sounds like they'll get seriously backlogged while the big-block chain chugs along with fast tx times and low fees. It would make their defeat complete. |

| body | Couldn't disagree more. IF, and its a big IF, UASF succeeds in forking off with any significant hashrate, big block miners will create their own fork and the two will compete on exchanges. The UASF fork will be limited to 1MB and will be hashing at 30~35% current hashpower with the same difficulty. This means that they will only be creating blocks every 30 minutes instead of every 10, creating an even larger backlog and skyrocketing fees for users. At the same time, the Bitmain HF will be mining with closer to 50% of the current hashrate and can make blocks as big as it wants. So all transactions will be added to the next block and fees will go back to pennies. Given those facts, only one chain can survive and that is the big block chain. Bigger blocks =more transactions = higher price. You can count on that. |

| title | Nuclear Energy; The Future of our Energy Source? |
| body | The world's natural resources are being consumed at an astounding rate. As these resources diminish , people will be seeking alternative methods to generate electricity for heat and light . The only practical short term solution for the energy-crisis is nuclear power. Nuclear power, however is not as safe as it seems. Although burning coal, gas or oil in a factory is in fact much more dangerous, the repercussions of these reactors, if meltdown occurs, can be deadly. The dangers associated with a nuclear power plant staggeringly outweigh the benefits to society as a whole and in part to the community living and working around the power plant. There are many problems with nuclear reactors, such as inflating costs, production bottlenecks, and the fact that there are alternatives to our global warming issue. Overall, these machines are not the cheapest for creating energy at a clean and effective rate. Solar power, advanced biofuels, wind power, and other energy technologies promise to revolutionize how electricity is generated in the 21st century. Already, wind energy can produce electricity for less than five cents per kWh, and concentrated solar power can produce energy for 11-12 cents per kWh—even at night—and these costs are decreasing (www.americanprogress.org). Alternatives do not produce nuclear waste, and they do not face the same extensive safety, regulatory, and construction costs that nuclear does. A good article that shows the difference between nuclear, solar, and wind energy is “Let’s Run the Numbers.”. Mike Conley is a writer living in Los Angeles who has been studying energy issues for several years. Tim Maloney is a retired community college professor of Electronics Technology and Machine Control, with an MS in Electrical Engineering and a PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Toledo, and a BS in Engineering from Case Western Reserve University. The co-authors are long-time members of the Thorium Energy Alliance, an advocacy group for the widespread acceptance and deployment of thorium-fueled Molten Salt Reactors (https://goo.gl/Jx9P8A/). Both authors came together to write"Let's Run the Numbers" which is about the comparative analysis of wind and solar energy versus nuclear energy. Conley and Maloney both make the reader feel like they know nothing about the subject and task at hand which is tackling global warming. Overall this article is a good source of information and opens the reader's eyes on what needs to be done if we do turn to nuclear energy. Overall this article shows the reader about how much a nuclear reactor costs compared to the price of either wind or solar energy sources, and both authors get the point across about the expenditures and process of getting these reactors standing tall. Building these reactors is extremely problematic to get the resources needed. Japan Steel is the only company in the world “capable of producing the central part of a nuclear reactor’s containment vessel in a single piece, reducing the risk of a radiation leak,” but it can only produce four per year (www.americanprogress.org). Even if Japan Steel increases its capacity, American power companies would be buying components in a global market at a time when China and India are increasing their nuclear capacity to meet growing energy needs. Supply bottlenecks, coupled with soaring commodity prices, have resulted in enormous price increases for nuclear, which is already capital intensive, even though new reactors have only been coming online at an average rate of about four to five per year in the past decade(www.americanprogress.org). Increased nuclear plant construction will be constrained by these factors including the costs of them. Nuclear power plant construction costs; mainly materials, labor, and engineering—rose by 185 percent between 2000 and 2007 (www.americanprogress.org). More recently, costs have been increasing even faster: In mid-March, Progress Energy informed state regulators that the twin 1,100 MW nuclear plants it intends to build in Florida would cost $14 billion, which “triples estimates the utility offered little more than a year ago.” (www.americanprogress.org). Although there are many issues blocking reactors to be built, the difference of transitioning from burning fossil fuels to nuclear fission would have such a positive and cleaner impact on the world. The change would let us avoid pumping 64 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas pollution into our atmosphere. They also would avoid spewing soot and other air pollutants like coal-fired power plants do and thus would save some 1.8 million lives, and may save another 7 million in the next four decades, along with substantial reductions in carbon emissions if nuclear energy were brought to a large scale. The speediest drop in greenhouse gas pollution on record occurred in France in the 1970s and 1980s, when that country transitioned from burning fossil fuels to nuclear fission for electricity, lowering its greenhouse emissions by roughly 2 percent per year (Scientific American). A person that is trying to decline the rate at which we are melting the ice caps is David Biello. David Biello is an award-winning journalist writing primarily about the environment and energy since 1999, he has also written on subjects ranging from astronomy to zoology for Scientific American Magazine (www.davidbiello.com/about). He has written an article called "How Nuclear Power Can Stop Global Warming.", Biello talks about the positive and negative effects of nuclear reactors, and how they are being used around the world. David shows how nuclear power is one of the few technologies that can quickly combat climate change. Furthermore, David shows many facts and data to help idealize how effective nuclear reactors would be if built. Overall, "How Nuclear Power Can Stop Global Warming." shows that we know nothing about how drastic we are changing our planet. Overall this shows how we can make clean, useful energy without destroying our home. Although nuclear energy sounds very unpredictable, it is actually quite safe despite the past meltdowns like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl, and Fukushima. The evidence over 6 decades shows that nuclear power is a safe means of generating electricity (World Nuclear Association). The risk of accidents in nuclear power plants is low and declining. Apart from Chernobyl, no nuclear workers or members of the public have ever died as a result of exposure to radiation due to a commercial nuclear reactor incident. Most of the serious radiological injuries and deaths that occur each year, which is around 2-4 deaths, are the result of large uncontrolled radiation sources, such as abandoned medical or industrial equipment (World Nuclear Association). It should be emphasized that a commercial-type power reactor simply cannot under any circumstances explode like a nuclear bomb as the fuel is not enriched beyond about 5%, and much higher enrichment is needed for explosives (World Nuclear Association). All this set aside, there are many people on the hunt to proliferate the knowledge of these reactors, such as Sherrell R. Greene. Prior to founding Advanced Technology Insights, LLC in 2012, Sherrell R. Greene spent over 30 years at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. There he served as director of Nuclear Technology Programs and director of Research Reactors Development. He is an expert in boiling water reactor severe accident phenomenology and mitigation. He offers his perspectives on energy, society, and the environment at his blog Sustainable Energy Today. (https://goo.gl/483fk6) He has also written an article titled "An Ethos of Nuclear Reactor Safety" which is about all of the hoax's on nuclear reactors. Sherrell shows some great points and clears up some things about nuclear reactor safety. He also brings up how nuclear reactor safety is not what as bad as it seems, and that it is manageable in the long run. Even if nuclear waste, proliferation, national security, accidents, cancer and other dangers of uranium mining and transport, lack of sites, increasing costs, and a private sector unwilling to insure and finance the projects weren’t enough to put an end to the debate of nuclear power as a solution for climate change, the final nail in nuclear’s coffin is time. We have the next ten years to mount a global effort against climate change. It simply isn’t possible to build 17,000 – or 2,500 or 17 for that matter – in ten years. Overall there are many bumps in the energy fabricating world. Many people believe that nuclear energy just is not possible in today's society, and others think it is the key to get out of this depression of global warming. Time will have to be the judge of seeing whether or not we can find a fix to the staggering issue of global climate change. Works Cited Biello, David.
