      "title": "Travel Day 1 - A Slight Flight Mess",
      "body": "Welcome one and all to my first travel blog! As I’ve been telling all my friends and family, during my trip this spring I’m going to be doing a travel blog. Earlier this year I set out on a goal to head to Italy at the end of the school term. As the date fast approached, it started to become more talk than reality. After my last final of my bachelors was when it finally hit me that I’m done, and that the planning should probably begin.\n\nAround May 6th is when I started planning this trip - and yes I’m writing this at the airport May 29th so it did happen - so in just 3 weeks I not only changed this from being a solo trip to Italy, but to a duo trip to Dublin THEN Italy with my buddy Dean.\n\nFor those that don’t know, Dean (no not The Dean, just Dean) is an amazing man I met at my role on student council this last year at BCIT. He was the Chair of the School of Energy, and was also finishing his degree in Mechanical Engineering. About 1 week into planning I asked if he’d like to join, and all he could say was “yes.” I could not be more excited to head out on this trip with such a great guy, and I can’t wait to make some great memories, visit gorgeous cities and meet some amazing new people.\nAs for the planning and the trip with an incredible amount of support - really I could not have planned all of this without the help, input, tips and tricks form everyone - everything came together with the final plan being: 4 days in Dublin, 2 days in Rome, 3 days in Florence and 4 days in **Venice.**\n> I’m holding Venice because I have dreamed of going there my entire life and it’s *finally happening.*\nI’d just like to say thank you once more to everyone. Thank you for all the support and kind words. I know I speak for both Dean and I in saying we couldn’t have done this without you and we can’t wait to show you all the pictures and tell you all the ~*other*~ stories when we get back.\n---\nThe first day started great. Woke up at 07:00, said bye to my mom and brother as they both headed off to school and I then got to work double checking my packing. Everything was in order and ready to walk out the door, besides changing my cell’s SIM card. As I went to check my flights around 09:00 everything was still on schedule and ready to go, 17:15 out of YVR landing at 10:05 LGW time and 15:05 out of LGW and landing 16:35 DUB.\n*”Awesome,”* I thought as I turned on my PC deciding to get a few last games in before I really had to get going. Then at about 10:00 is when things started to go sideways. I checked my flight again and low and behold it says **Delayed Departure: 19:15 out of YVR; Arrive at 13:05 LGW.** (Insert a *wut* meme here because that was my face the entire time at the airport.) Things have not gotten off to a great start.\nEven with the delay, things still stayed on schedule as if we were to leave at 17:05 out of Vancoucer. I met Dean at his house and we headed by SkyTrain to the airport. Once we got there the flight now says **Delayed Departure: 20:20; Arrive: 14:04.** Our used to be 4h30m layover in London was now shredded to a measly *hour.*\nThe day was just getting better too. I then sat on the phone with Aer Lingus waiting for 35m to speak with a representative (Nancy you were amazing and thank you for helping me at 23:40 your time) to figure out contingencies in case we miss the flight. There is either the 19:50 flight (expensive one and full) or the 21:35 flight (cheaper and empty) that we can change to depending when we fly in. We decided to wait till we get in to decide.\nEither way, there was still 5 hours spent at the airport before we got on the flight. At least the food we ate (we got some snacks first then went for a Subway dinner) was decent, and we got a bit extra for the flight too so midnight snacks will be real. \nWe decided to play some chess as we were waiting for the flight to board. Sadly we were called before we could complete it, but I wish to challenge Dean when we get back. Boarding the plan was easy and as I sit in my seat the hype has hit an 8/10. Soon to be 10/10 when we land in Dublin. As we took off I decided to take my opportunity to play ‘Learn to Fly’ by Foo Fighters for both Dean and I to enjoy (and might I say we had a good chuckle).\nNow it’s time to sit back, do some reading, listen to music, watch some of The Office downloaded on my phone and of course sleep.       "body": "Yesterday I hung out with my friends at their trailer park at Cultus Lake, BC, Canada.\n\n![](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUkCiAR16jSW2fZzJ8WvHADD7Z87a33hMQGEHHzb25tqa/image.png)\n\nWhat a breathtaking view.Cultus lake is incredible as it really shows off the milestone of BC’s mountains ⛰. It’s just about a 2hr drive from downtown Vancouver if you’re up for a travel and treat. There are numerous activities including: [RV and Camping](https://g.co/kgs/PtzKYX), [Cultus Lake Waterpark](https://g.co/kgs/B8wC5t), [cottages](https://g.co/kgs/RH3pn3), [golf](https://g.co/kgs/3a7a4a), and [trails](www.cultuslake.bc.ca/parks-trails/), just to give a few.\n\nPersonally, if you have to do a one day trip, head to the beach 🏖 first. You don’t have to go to the trailer park, there are public beaches all around. If you’d like to pay out a bit more too, you can rent boats and sea-doos (but in B.C. you need a pleasure craft operators card to drive on the lakes). The lake is a glacier lake as well, so be prepared to get cold! \nIf you’re camping🏕, I *really* recommend going for some hikes the next day.       "body": "[The Daemon Engine](https://github.com/Goodgoodies/daemon-engine) - my final school project, and new personal project - is a game engine Typescript, running the latest ECMA script and built to run with with other frameworks to be deployed on the latest platforms and devices. In working on an engine that is using some of the latest libraries and platforms, being so cross compatible with a constantly updating community project is a difficult task. One requiring copious amounts of researching, templating and testing. \nFor the past 2 months I have been researching unstoppably on how Typescript works, how web bundlers package and compile code to different modules (what those are) and the list goes on and on (and on and on). It’s really quite the rabbit hole. The numerous amounts of technologies are astonishing, and each time I pickup where I left off, I look into one thing and find myself 10 links deep in a bigger mess to begin with.\nThus far, I have completed: a unit testing framework (for the components and systems built so far), a basic architecture to a majority of the system, a package bundler compiling ESNext scripts down to ES3 JavaScript, and a document creation system. While this isn’t much I am only 2 weeks into development. \nThings have had their ups and downs, and as I continue development I find myself getting sidetracked easily to look into something else. One thing that has been my saving grace has been my methodology. My methodology is something I’ve labelled “Test Driven Staged Delivery,” and it’s just what you think. I find myself getting into writing unit tests, then writing code, and more code, and more code, etc. It get’s very messy as I keep working. I have to force myself to go back to writing unit tests - as hard as it is.\nMy though process in using a test driven strategy is so that I can reliably test my code to function how I think it should function right from the get go. It’s an… interesting way to develop code. As I said, development has been slow, and it’s partially to how my testing is going, but at the same time, what I write is working precisely how I know it should function. It’s been hard adjusting, but I could not recommend test driven development enough now.\n---\nSo this has partially turned into a rant, but also as an update. Development is going; I should be able to setup a test rendering (or at least loading) of my engine in either Electron or Angular2 (I’m leaning more to Electron first, then to Angular2 - can’t decide yet). I’ve also got to get Travis-CI running for the main project, some readme, wiki and contributing files, and also implement and test developer files when downloading and using in another project.       "body": "Since we wake up we are told to dream\nTo dream big or to dream small\nAnd we’re told to follow our dreams\nTo follow them to the ends of the Earth\nOr to follow them to the stars\nWe’re told to chase them our entire lives\nTo hold onto them in our darkest times\nThey are the stars in our universe\nThe thing giving us our light\n\nThis sun that shines so radiantly\nIt keeps away the demons within\nLays waste to the depression and the despair\nEradicates the suicide so that it no longer taunts my reality\nI think about it when I can no longer keep moving on\nWhen my feet turn into cinderblocks and beg me to jump\nAs my hands turn into knives and I yearn to cut\nI picture the rolling hills\nI picture the endless seas\nI dream of the places that give me strength\nPlaces I have never seen\n\nHow can this be that the places I’ve never seen\nOr the places I’ve never been\nMean the most to me?\nThey are my resolve and resolution through this road that is life\nThey patch my potholes and re-pave my new path\nThese unreachable achievements that seem so real\nAre my Northern Star guiding me to my heaven\nWith something so powerful, how doe they become forgotten?\nAs we grow up we’re told to forget everything we know\nTo forget our dreams, our passions\nThey’re unreasonable or they can never be achieved\nWords and themes broadcasted daily all over our social feeds\n\nYour dreams should mean everything to you\nNo one can ever take away your dreams from you\nOnly you let them\nYou are the deciding factor in your life\nYou tell them when you are done, and you never stop being done\nNot until you achieve your dreams\nBut then, I hope you have new dreams\nCreate new challenges\nDream bigger and think outside the box\nThen make the new box and think outside that\nBut never, ever let your star die\n-\n*I wrote this post because I’ve been going through a really tough time lately. I got into a really bad place near the end of last year, and it’s the lowest I’ve ever been. With the help and support of a lot of amazing people, I got through it.*\n\n*I want to let everyone know that people want to listen to you. If you’re going through a tough time the worst thing you can do is hold it in and not let your voice be heard. If I haven’t said it enough or the message wasn’t fully clear: hold your dreams close. Achieve them.
